The Wilderness Years are looking more like an Ice Age…

_________________________________________________

Ok, point taken, but what happens when the ice age ends, my man? Eh? That’s a solid 10K years of heat warming your ass. Glass half full Loo, #4lyfe

Intriguing match ups in the NFL this Sunday. Sounds like ratings have been very good for the playoffs even with all these blowouts. What happened to all those country bumpkins who said they were quitting the NFL because of players protesting police brutality?

Anyway, we can talk NFL all weekend. Today is all about Zaidi and all the sweet, crisp moves he’s been making…..

As much as I like poking holes in the “Farhan is our savior” narrative, I like a lot of what he has done so far.
I’m glad he hasn’t traded Bum or Belt. I like that he has grabbed some younger guys who might be able to help us like Gerber and my boy Drew Ferguson.
If he could just snag Harper, I would call it an amazing off season.
What about taking a flyer on Matt Davidson??? I’d be down with that too.

What happened to all of the bumpkins who quit on the NFL? Well, just like 49ee fans, they love a white, wholesome QB like Mahomes and they’re jumping on the KC bandwagon like the good Christians that they are. Never mind that every other Chief is a wife beater and their fans stole the tomahawk chop from Atlanta. Go Patriots! Yeeee haww!

  3. willedav said, on January 18, 2019 at 7:46 am

I’d be willing to have S Gray in Giants rotation. Maybe re uniting him with C Young gets him back on track and just moving away from Yankee Stadium, that division and AL in general should improve his numbers quite a bit.
Like Holland he’s a vet guy you can plug in and use in place of a Stratton or S Anderson who would help limit the innings on DRod and Suarez. The Z talked about that and I think it’s a good idea…LA used a bunch of SPs and the 10 day DL to stagger innings and workload.

  4. snarkk said, on January 18, 2019 at 8:29 am

I assume Curt Young was the Pitching Coach at A’s when Gray was there? Maybe that’s a retro-connection the ZMan is pursuing on this. I wouldn’t give up much for Gray. That’s good, the Giant’s don’t have much to give. Yanks need to ditch Gray, his $7milliion one year left probably is nothing to them re: their payroll, they just need to move him to open a roster spot…

Pitchers and catchers for SF report 2/14. What’s that, 28 days from now? Tick tock, tick tock.

Shouldn’t chi be checking in soon with our ST countdown?

Can Davidson play RF, Dawg? He’s mainly a 1st and 3rd guy isn’t he?

  7. Flavor said, on January 18, 2019 at 10:02 am

I’d love Davidson but didn’t he sign with TB?

  8. Flavor said, on January 18, 2019 at 10:03 am

I didn’t realize what Gray’s home/away splits were last year. Maybe he just can’t pitch in NY. To be honest, I hate guys that get rattled that way. So, still, fuck him.

    • unca_chuck said, on January 18, 2019 at 11:55 am

Shit. Sonny boy likes the area, and NY can pay the bulk of his salary. WTFN?

  9. dirtnrocksnomo said, on January 18, 2019 at 10:57 am

From a certain perspective Harper makes sense. He immediately improves a roster with a significant number of unmovable contracts and he’s young enough to still have an impact when Bart/Ramos arrive. All Zaidi has to do is get it done and then dazzle us with his ability to identify talent required to backfill the roster in 3 years. Sweet jesus, do something to keep it from becoming Snoracle Field

    • sandog said, on January 18, 2019 at 11:55 am

      What Dirt said.

      • sandog said, on January 18, 2019 at 11:56 am

….and yes, I think Davidson has played some outfield.

  10. zumiee said, on January 18, 2019 at 12:04 pm

Harper led the league in walks last year with 130. He could easily be walked 200 times in a Giants uniform this season.

    • sandog said, on January 18, 2019 at 12:11 pm

True, but that doesn’t disuade me from wanting him in Orange and Black.
Should also mean lots of good pitches to hit for some of our other guys.

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on January 18, 2019 at 12:22 pm

Don’t forget Sabevan’s super duper Do Some Damage evaluation tool, Zum! The club’s plethora of slappy singles hitters (Panik, Posey, Crawford. Slater) can drive Harper and Belt in.

      • unca_chuck said, on January 18, 2019 at 12:30 pm

        The DL All Stars . . .

      • unca_chuck said, on January 18, 2019 at 12:37 pm

Don’t forget Mac (under) the knife, Evan (desperate ballplayer) Longoria, and Brandon (I hurt my hair) Crawford, and Brandon (can’t find my) Belt.

Criminy, the pickings are slim for free agent outfielders. Might as well get the Melk Man back.

The other day, Krukow mentioned steroids and Bonds in the same sentence on the air, probably for the first time. On KNBR he said something like “Bonds has the steroids controversy swirling around him.” It was in the context of pushing for Bonds to get into the Hall of Fame. Krukow also said “Bonds is taking the hit for a whole generation of players.”

Considering the lack of action on the Giants’ part, I seem to remember that in the off-season before the ’02 season, not much had happened until late January. That might not be right, but I think so. On Sabean’s plate: whether to re-sign Bonds and Schmidt. Splashers said no way they would be able to do both. But they did. And then they signed Reggie Sanders to boot. And THAT was your World Series team. While the current inaction is a bit mind-numbingly boring, still a month to go before ST.

  19. unca_chuck said, on January 18, 2019 at 8:25 pm

THese refs in this Warrior game are horrible. 19 fouls in 17 minutes. And a T.

  20. snarkk said, on January 18, 2019 at 8:27 pm

Many scientists and researchers believe about 100 billion humans have died so far in all of human history. Our current living human population of about 7 billion seems kind of small in comparison.
But 7 billion is a lot of people, obviously.

Here’s some free agent outfielders. A mixed lot. Some ex-Giants in there.
    Marwin Gonzalez
    Denard Span
    Curtis Granderson
    Derek Dietrich
    Craig Gentry
    Cameron Maybin
    Matt Joyce
    Matt Holliday
    Gerardo Parra
    Hunter Pence
    A.J. Pollock
    Adam Jones
    Eric Young Jr.
    Austin Jackson
    Bryce Harper
    Nick Markakis
    Carlos Gonzalez
    Jose Bautista
    Robbie Grossman
    Melky Cabrera
    Brandon Guyer
    Aristides Aquino
    Carlos Gomez
    Chris Young

    • djloo27 said, on January 19, 2019 at 11:43 am

I clamored for a Melky return for years.
Markakis is another guy I always liked.
Now they’re both too old, but for one year each, why not?
Throw in Jones or Pollack and we got a new (old) outfield.
Can’t go into the season with the current clownfield…

  31. willedav said, on January 19, 2019 at 8:39 am

Reds in on Sonny Gray? Funny when it comes to SPs with issues in NYC, I think Gray is lot less “done” than M Harvey.

  32. Flavor said, on January 19, 2019 at 10:12 am

i think I’d take Marwin, Pollack, Bautista and/or Grossman off that list Zumie posted.

    • sandog said, on January 19, 2019 at 10:18 am

…and on further review, I guess Matt Davidson hasn’t played much outfield. BUT, apparently he can throw in the low 90’s and has a decent curve and some teams are looking at him as guy who could pitch a little on the side.
Z-Man has to love that idea.

  33. 49eroutsiders said, on January 19, 2019 at 11:10 am

I’m going to jump on the bandwagon of whichever NFC team wins tomorrow just to spite all of the bandwagon Chiefs fans on hete. Chuck, you Niner fans always drool over AFC teams that are the Raiders rivals just because you hate the Raiders? Hahahahaha, Rams are winning the championship this year and maybe the next time the 49ers get crushed in Arrowhead you’ll keep things in perspective. And keep Chuck off of our blog, he has no sense of humor.

  34. snarkk said, on January 19, 2019 at 11:13 am

    I’d be up for Chiefs-Rams.
They played the game of the year earlier. A reprise would generate some SB buzz.
Another Pats encounter in the SB is another reason for me not to pay any attention to it…

    • Flavor said, on January 19, 2019 at 11:45 am

i see your point but I still think the Chiefs win by 7+. I also think the Saints cover. Go KC!

  37. alleykat69 said, on January 19, 2019 at 12:33 pm

Loo I guess I’m not dead like some of your buddies from SB early days, cause I still remember the 1st one ☝️ when Bart Starr hit a drunk the night before the game Max McGee twice for TD’s, nobody including himself believed that would happen in Green Bay’s 35-10 rout. Expected a closer game with Dawson&Taylor hooking up more, and with a 2fiery coaches going at it with Lombardi&Schram (sp?) but Lombardi was really a special coach that probably his players were afraid to lose under, then he blows out the Raiders in the second SB as well, and I’m thinking 🤔 maybe the American conference at the time should never play in these game since they routed every time and the National conference is so much more dominating..

    • Macdog said, on January 19, 2019 at 12:40 pm

Crazy, even after the Jets’ upset in SB III, K.C. was still a double-digit underdog to the Vikes in SB IV.

I know I’ve posted this a dozen times, but I love it so much:

I don’t think the current Chief defense giggles at anything…

  38. foxboroughfanatic1212 said, on January 19, 2019 at 12:51 pm

Tom Brady is the GOAT and he’ll prove it tomorrow. And then when it’s Rams Patriots all of you fair weather Kansas City fans will jump ship and jump on the New England bandwagon because it’s the only way you can cope with the Rams winning the Super Bowl. Poor Niner fans don’t know which team to root for!

Send his worthless ass to the fuckin’ Angels. Their 3rd baseman is no longer among the living. He hits well in their shithole park and can DH, too. They have a couple of bloated contracts of their own (Upton, Pujols….)

gauging? You’ve got your 10, 12, 20 and .420 gauges, and then your birdshot, down to 10, which is probably the size of sand, and then you’ve got bird shit. I think that’s the gauge we’re looking at here.

  40. Flavor said, on January 19, 2019 at 2:21 pm

while he will be our bomb champion it’s ludicrous to expect that anyone would trade for him with that contract….

  41. zumiee said, on January 19, 2019 at 2:27 pm

What Longo says is true- analytics are shredding the free agent market; but there’s no use for him whining about it. All the teams now believe the same basic analytics, and this is the way it’s going to be. Sabean/Evans were the last of the old guard.
Ain’t no way anyone is going to sign Pence.

    • blade3colorado said, on January 19, 2019 at 2:46 pm

Longo is hardly the only guy to complain. Just this week Arrieta and K Bryant have said the same thing about hw bad it is for baseball that so many teams are uninterested in FAs. And also seem content to tank.
When it comes to “bad” contracts, let’s be real. the giants, just gifted an extra few hundred mil from L Eillison and owned by a bilionaire, and who play in an often sold out and paid off Yard, can afford anything.
they could DFA Longo or Melancon tomorrow and it’s a drop in the bucket.

the red sox are STILL paying Pablo and they ate $20 mil so Hanley wouldn’t ruin their clubhouse and team any longer with his presence. And btw signed J D Mart 2018 preseason and won the WS.

    • Aroldis Chapman: .136 average (4th), 43.9 percent strikeout rate (3rd)
    • Dellin Betances: .186 average, (19th), 42.3 percent strikeout rate (4th)

About those KC Chiefs, I was the same as what Charlie said earlier, hated the Raiders and that meant adopting the Chiefs way back when. I remember being intrigued with Stram’s backfield set-ups, all those running formations with sometimes 3 running backs in different horizontal or vertical alignments. Man, that was fun stuff. You sure don’t see that anymore….
