Bring Me Bryce Harper

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 10, 2019

I’ve gone back and forth on this Harper thing and I’ve decided 2 things: 1) I’m fine with us not getting him. This could be a huge bullet dodged. 2) I really want the Giants to sign Bryce Harper.

Here why we should get him:

  1. We need to stop worrying about their money. True, they have some bad deals on the books. But they are under the luxury tax and what was the point of getting under it if they aren’t going to spend going forward? They can sign Harper and still be under the tax.
  2. He’s only 26. This is critical. We are still obviously in re-build mode. You can build around Harper. Even if Zaidi doesn’t start *Muncying* the roster in ways that don’t take effect till 2020 or 2021, Harper will still be in his prime. If he was 28/29 I would be against signing him.
  3. I’m not sure I can watch this boring ass team this year as they are currently constructed. Harper alone won’t make us much better than a .500 team and that’s if nobody gets injured. But he will at least make the team watchable. Who knows how many years any of us have left?
  4. He fills an obvious hole on a team with many of them. Diggity said it best in our text exchange yesterday:

So, my arms are stretched wide open. Zaidi, make it so….

And if it doesn’t become so, that’s ok too…..

By the way, the title is a spin off of the “Bring Me Roger Stone” documentary on netflix. I encourage anyone to watch that if you want a more layered insight into Trump, his campaign and his mindset….

And now, for something completely different. If you like to laugh out loud take 2 minutes out of your Sunday morning and watch this.

Funny story re: Auerbach and Heinsohn. Back when Auerbach first had Bill Russell and Cousy he really wanted to play at a fast pace to wear down other teams. Like a lot of others in NBA at that time, Heinsohn was a smoker, before games and even at halftime. Auerbach got mad at him and told him he had to quit smoking to keep up late in the game.
so Heinsohn quits and starts to add more weight to what was never a very svelte body to begin with.
So according to Cousy, Auerbach told him to go back to smoking.

That video is hilarious. I watched it 3 times trying to figure out where the god damn head hole was. It wasn’t until I read the comments that I realized it was actually pants. Poor bastard.

    5. Having Harper would hopefully have Posey batting lower in the order.

I’m up here a couple miles above Stateline on the Nevada side in a rental house with a bunch of people at Zephyy Cove. Stormed like crazy yesterday, 3 feet of snow up top at big resorts. Driving back here from Atateline last night was like driving through a giant windy glass of milk. Squaw and Alpine closed due to Avalanche danger. Heavenly a bunch of runs closed. Gorgeous and 15 degrees this morning. Looks like friggin winter wonderland up here. We’re not even skiiing today, going sledding and tubing with teenagers. Btw, California Burger in the Heavenly shop center at Stateline has great burgers. Looks like fan fest a bust, like this coming season?…

Nice! We’re going to be there last week of February. Staying at the Marriott next to the Gondola. Will have to check out the burger joint.

      • snarkk said, on February 10, 2019 at 11:08 am

We are in the lobby of that hotel last night! Looks nice! Yes, burger joint is 90 second walk from there. Big selection of bourbons on the wall…

      • snarkk said, on February 10, 2019 at 11:14 am

I had a shot of Wild Turkey. There’s a “private” club in the back of the burger joint with an entry door that looks like entry to a walk in Freezer. Tell the bouncer dude the password “D” and you’re in. Small space like a little cabaret, supposedly has jazz and other stuff on certain nights but not last night. Pretty cool, but not with teenagers you have to leave outside, so we left…

Thanks, I will check that out.

Yeah my daughter is up at Northstar skiing ⛷ with a bunch of friends, she sent me pictures and it’s quite impressive with the snow amount that’s fallen!
Hey you don’t have to go that far their doing snow angels at Pebble Beach Golf course with a huge dusting of hail on the putting greens where the squeezy’s ain’t cutting it lol 😂

Both Stanford b-ball programs in big games today. women playing at home vs. league leader Oregon who just blasted Cal by 20+ and scored 105. Men at Oregon with chance to sweep up there and continue to climb league rankings.
Pac 12 is so bad, as teams above Cards (who were 9th a week ago) continue to lose home games. Yesterday it was UCLA blowing 20 point second half lead, USC losing to 10th place Colorado and Arizona who lost 5 to 11th place Wazzu, their 5th straight.

Something seems phony about the way Harper and the Giants are talking this up. Why do that if there’s some seriousness to the talks? It more likely seems like Harper wants to drive up his price by having more teams involved, and the Giants want to keep Giants fans strung along. That’s a Baer type of thing.
I could be wrong. I move up the chances of him being signed by the Giants to 5%.

    • Flavor said, on February 10, 2019 at 5:06 pm

Zaidi is to smart to think there is actually mutual interest. He’s saying it and maybe that’s Baer’s influence. I don’t know. Can’t imagine Baer liked seeing such a small contingent at Oracle. Talking about mutual interest doesn’t cost anything.

I’m keeping the odds like I said yesterday at Zero percent.Giants are like a prom night date, all tease no action..

I was sorry to see Justin Jackson traded from the Kings, I liked his potential; but Barnes is a nice fit for the Kings, and can help them more now.

Ah, the bygone days of innocence: I didn’t realize that the contract SF gave Bonds in ’92, at 6 years and something like 44 million, was the biggest contract up til then. MLB says G’s are definitely in on Harper but want a more short-term contract than the 10 years offered by the Nats. Ha, how about 6 years at 44 million? Ok, maybe 180 million….

    • zumiee said, on February 10, 2019 at 5:47 pm

I could see 4 years/$160 million. It allows Harper to say he’s the first $40 million a year player. It puts the Giants over the luxury tax line, though, so there’s that. Billionaire Charles Johnson is worried about paying a few extra million.

      • zumiee said, on February 10, 2019 at 5:50 pm

        Or maybe 5 years/$200 million.
But I thought the Nats offered 7 years/$300 million. Maybe he just really wants to get away from the Nats.
I still think he ends up with the Phils.

        Pretty colorful writing.
Back when the teams’ front offices had almost all of the power and leverage.

Maybe he’ll hit better at Oracle than AT & T…

He did go 3-6 with 2 HRs and 3 RBI in the two NLDS games at AT&T in 2014.

Zum, I hope you consider breaking out a new Eastwood image for the upcoming season. Maybe something like this . . .

There are times Draymond Green just needs to STFU. He commits an obvious foul in open court, complains about gets a T and continues to mouth off “that’s f-ing bs” to refs. Move on and let it go. This happens far too often.

    • alleykat69 said, on February 10, 2019 at 7:32 pm

Maybe Clint needs to pull out his 44 magnum and tell Draymond “:Do you feel lucky punk?”

      • willedav said, on February 10, 2019 at 7:55 pm

warriors pretty lucky to win tonite.

  13. willedav said, on February 10, 2019 at 8:03 pm

Obviously if Harper had on offer he liked he would have already signed somewhere, so he’s still listening. He either doesn’t want to play for a team or the offer isn’t good enough. Hope Zaidi ropes him in and gets another bat, preferably RH, too.
No problem with what Posey said–why wouldn’t you want your team to bring in talented players to help you win.
And Flav is right on 3 main ponts of the thread, especially the first tho I take issue with #3.

I have been fine with Z taking his time, but now I think he’s just a selfish bastard, not giving us Flappers anything concrete to talk about…. 🙂

      Zaidi speaking to the Flappers:

On the other hand, I don’t blame Harper for taking his time. Big decision, even if it feels like it’s getting late with ST just around the corner. I remember reading something Harper said not too long ago, and other *vets* as well, saying that they really need only a few weeks in ST to be ready, so dragging this on into ST probably doesn’t matter much to some of ’em….

The Pirates quietly signed Melky to a minor league contract.

  17. zumiee said, on February 10, 2019 at 9:30 pm

I’m surprised Kimbrel hasn’t been signed yet.

Jimmy Carter won a Grammy tonight for an audio book. The guy is a bad-a##.
