Sunday
Funniest thing of the year would be if the Phillies just pulled out of this Harper stuff.
This is a good one, I don’t have a guess….yet
Baseball Reference can make me so nutty. I would not have gotten this one in a million years.
What player did the Giants sign as a FA twice and trade for once – all within a 5 year period?
Gregor Blanco? Just a guess.
Gregor Blanco? Just a guess.
Oops, sorry about the double post.
Ishi?
“past his prime” from the thread yesterday undoubtedly signals it ain’t Travis . . . .
Kenny Lofton?
I know i’m wrong . . . Ray Ray?
Did we have Aurilla 3 times? I only remember twice.
Maybe the Prez Whiteside, or was he just going from the minors to majors back to the minors back to the majors back to the minors to coaching. We must have struck a deal with Greyhound at some point.
The lineup for today’s viewing pleasure.

Something weird like Ernie Riles?
Twins guy Andres Torres?
Good call, wilco. He was with a few times.
I think I stumbled on the answer.. the Giants teams that I have the least memory of after moving to DC and before the baseball satellite package…Stan Javier…
I thought of him, too.
In one of his last visits to ATT Peter Magowan apologized to Mac Williamson about the BP mounds which cost him the rest of last year due to concussion symptoms.
Supposedly Bud Selig had concerns over it when the park 1st opened saying it could be a dangerous situation.
Giants really need to bring in triples alley at 421 ft and put the BP’s back there, are maybe behind the Chevron cars in LF?
Yeah, my idea was to replace the garden in CF. Plenty of room there.
Bad bum.
Fortunately, it’s only his first game and a Spring training game at that. But yeah, 5 hits, 3 runs and a 27 ERA doesn’t look too good. Other than Belt and Panik bombs and Beede pitching 2 scoreless innings, the Giants look hapless, 8-3 Cubs after 4.
Estes sounds promising on the radio. Way better than Affeldt, IMO…
Yeah Estes is far more polished and knowledgeable then Affeldt.Could see a team of Estes&Flemming in the near future, if Flemming sticks around ..
Flemm’s gonna be around ’til at least 2022:

Watching Michigan Michigan St., gotta admit seeing e trade commercial done to “Atomic Dog” isn’t something I would have predicted.
Highly recommend Astroball by Ben Reiter. Stros became interesting mix of analytics area scouts and “gut feelings” in drafting acquiring and developing talent pool. And the unquantifiable chemistry of adding savvy vet in last season too.
Plus it goes over their struggles and mistakes, which include releasing one J D Martinez. And the response which was to fire mgr and replace him with Hinch and to extend analytics all the way to Single A ball players and coaches.
Beedah flinging 97, that’s interesting. That’s after the usual “he’s in the best shape ever” stuff. Let’s see if he can repeat it over the next month…
He’s throwing only the four-seamer now. He better have some control over that thing.
Drew Ferguson is a Houston guy, rule 5. High OB, including .400+ for Fresno AAA last season, not much pop.
started his Stros career in Tri-City, Single A team in Troy NY that comes up at end of Astroball, where Stros sent one of their highest analytics guys to look over what they had going on there. He has to go back if Giants don’t keep him, so see what happens in ST. RH too.
Well with Duggar’s dicey shoulder I can’t see how they can’t keep Ferguson..
40 man Giant roster players does anybody know?
Melvin Adon?
Hanser Alberto?
Trevor Gott?
Jose Lopez?
well, yeah, Adon was the guy throwing a free and easy 100 mph today
I like a free and easy 100 mph, how was his control ? Xoot ?
I heard him strike out two guys, masterfully, but the guy in the middle came up expecting the heat and hit a HR. Still, he blew people away in fall ball and he’s apparently strong and durable. 24 I think Miller said.
DJ Peters is an outfielder Zaidi drafted for the Dodgers in the 4th round a couple of years ago. He hit two HRs for the Dodgers today.
It was part of 3 HRs in a row:
“Back-to-back-to-back home runs by Dodgers minor-leaguers Omar Estevez, Matt Beaty and DJ Peters in the 7th inning. Peters’ second HR of the game.”
Muncy got hit twice by pitches today. These guys just hang over the plate and swing for the fences.
Bum said he felt good and Beede was outstanding. Turn off your ad blockers (sheesh, even Red Bluff rag is doing this) to read this summary of today’s outing . . .

Okay, for those who might care, one more clue.
His memorable AB to me was a WS home run…
Dunston???
WINNER!!!!
Which he hit in the final game of his career…
Same game we lost the series in.
Technically no, but yes. It was in Game 6…
you’re right. Loo, do you know who the oldest player was in that Series?
I remember that HR well. I remember thinking, for the first time in my life, the Giants were going to win the World Series.
Well….
Game 6 was the most devastating sports fan moment of my life. The 3 rings since help a bunch, but thinking of that series will always hurt.
Blade, I googled a bit, but I’m not positive I have the right answer. If it wasn’t Dunston himself, was it an old Giants lefty at the end of the Angels bullpen?
Wouldn’t that be Dunston?? Blade?
Whoa! I just saw this (and your time stamp AK). My bad . . . you guessed it.
Great job, Blade! You guys remember way more from that WS than I sure care to.
Bingo SD . . . Shawon was the dude at 39 or 40 I think.
I remember that because after his bomb, his son gave him a hug and the announcers commented on his age.
Dennis Cook??
Nice pull AK.
That is who I was alluding to. Both listed at 39, but I didn’t bother to look up the month and I also don’t remember if Cook was on the Angels WS roster.
Did he pitch in that series, do you remember?
Sandog, Cook was left off the W/S roster I believe..
Shit I didn’t think any team could have a older player then the Giants even back then..🤔
$330 mill for Harper from the Phils?

Any Flap U messages you want me to relay to our Dear Leader when he’s here in Hanoi this week?
Tell him to check in to the Hanoi Hilton for a couple years.
CNN just so happens to be airing the Bourdain show where he meets up with Obama in Vietnam right now.
Yeah tell him to checkout Neko massage parlor, are Oasis massage,or Blue spa are several others around Hanoi for a uplifting experience..
Being a sociopath, Trump only really listens to the other sociopaths that have been in his life. Roy Cohn, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, and others. History will look back on this presidency as a pile of stinking garbage. We just have to endure it in the meantime.
John, a very different response/reaction here to Obama’s visit and Trump’s. They loved Obama. They don’t like Trump. They make a face when his name is mentioned. Not a pretty face at that. “Obama: good! Trump: no good!” Smart people.
Reading Jon Meacham’s “The Soul of America” lifted my spirits. The book is a reminder about the nation’s perseverance through other dark periods in its history.
I don’t get people getting caught up in the Oscars. Movies are great, but we shouldn’t overrate their importance. The people who really should watch “Green Book” and absorb its message aren’t going to watch it.
The funniest part about Green Book winning was seeing all the white guys getting the Oscars.
SanDawg, I hear ya about that game 6 in ’02. I also couldn’t believe that I had to go through that for the 2nd time (1st time being game 6 in ’86 in Boston). I still cannot watch replays from that ’86 World Series. Of course, both SF and Boston have won it all several times each since then, which does ease the sting of it a bit…
MLB Network is doing its ’30 teams in 30 days’
feature. Today was the Padres, and oh the hype. Tomorrow is the Giants. That could be scary. The shows always try to find positives, though. 🙂
Perhaps a very very short feature….
I’m completely over the ’02 World Series. I don’t feel any emotional connection to it anymore. We’ve won 3 championships since then, and the Angels none. It’s all good. 🙂
Rami Malek won an Oscar for his Freddie Mercury portrayal. That’s cool.
I didn’t really like the film (very superficial) but Malek was great, well deserved.
Oh, and Charlie, there actually is a pretty nice Hilton here in Hanoi, obviously not to be confused with the now tourist attraction old Hanoi Hilton. Hmmm….. the Hilton used to have a pretty nice spa that ahem, also included rub and tug. Not sure if they still do that (I confess, I visited it in ’04). Maybe could arrange a little set-up there for Trump ala his buddy Kraft…
Obama was the greatest President in history.
3 World Championships for the Giants during his administrations!
Yes! 🙂
Works for me . . .
