Searching For Bombs
Last year, the Giants hit 133 home runs. NL league average was 179. Let’s see if we can somehow get them up to 160 this season. My predictions (based on nobody getting hurt or missing any games):
Mac 25, Longo 20, Belt 20. Those are our 3 crown jewels. Bank them for 65.
Buster: 10. Obviously I’m leaning lower than that but this thread is supposed to be positive so he gets to double digits somehow….
Crawford 10. Panik 5.
Dugger and Parra 10 total.
That gets us to 100.
Bench: …..uh….30
Bum…..he gonna have to chip in 30, too. One per start.
This will probably be my most positive thread of the pre-season so go easy with your critique…
There is the other side of equation. Giants allowed only 156 last season, 3rd in NL. If they can continue to lessen number of HRs hit against them and allow fewer runs total, grounds for improvement.
As for “we’re not a .500 team”…
Giants spent 122 games, 80% of last season, at .500. They were 61-61 as late as Aug. 15. So that’s where they were after 4 and a half months despite all the injuries and lack of power.
After trading McCutchen, they went 6-21 which included an 11 game losing streak.
Good post and think 150 homers for us and against us is a good goal and potential accomplishment…
I was about to write that I thought you glass half-empty on this team….I see no way they get to 150 homers this year as currently constructed…
Oaf hitting 25 bombs is delusional.
If Belt finally has a healthy year, that might be delusional as well, he will lead the team with 27 jacks that’s a fact jack.
If Oaf stays healthy he’s much more likely to hit 25 than Buster is to hit 10
And in case there was discussion on the Flap about yday’s college entrance scandal, I always said as a proud Spartan in the 80s that anybody with money could get into Stanford…I guess also if you sailed you were a lock…
Our starting OF last year had 34 HRs (Pence, Cutch and the Gorker) so if Mac was able to get to 25, Duggar and the prize we get from the flurry of trades, should be able to beat that out.
Last year’s bench had 42 HRs, with Hundley’s 10 leading the pack (Panda had 9), since Hundley only had a WAR of 0.0, this year’s backup catcher should do better than that, right?
This is the year that Belt finally puts it all together with a healthy season and hits 30. I’ll be surprised if Duggar stays healthy but if he does I think he hits 10 or more. Seems like you’re bullish on Panik and Posey tbh.
Belt and Longo should be fine. It’s all the rest I’m leery of. What is the over/under on Mac (under) the knife hitting the DL?
May 15th? April 15th? March 15th?
Oaf just needs to not run into anything. He could easily stay healthy this year
Love that pic of the Polo Grounds yesterday. Mays bounces one off the wall 483 feet away. Talk about triples alley. I’m surprised he didn’t get an inside-the-park home run.
I’m with Loo, why no year given?
Because there’s no clock in baseball?
Aaron started in ’55? So that narrows it down to 55-57.
Looks like 1956.

Oaf is having a cruddy ST, but he will make the squad anyway because they are so in need of HRs, and he also has no minor league options left.
Out of options list
Hanser Alberto, 2B/3B/SS
Sam Dyson, RHP
Trevor Gott, RHP
Alen Hanson, 2B/OF
Steven Okert, LHP
Chris Stratton, RHP
Mac Williamson, OF
Who the hell is Hanser Alberto?
Yeah I posted Hanser’s name awhile ago, incredible who’s on the 40 man roster.Guess every team needs a Rikkert Faynette on their rosters..
Call him Mr. Waiver Wire – 11/18 Yanks select him off waivers from the Rangers, 1/19 Orioles select him off waivers from the Yanks, 2/19 SF selects him from the Orioles, 3/19 the Orioles get him back from SF.
He has been called up enough to be out of options?
moves are unlimited during the three option years, iirc
Beyond that, he’s now on the Orioles!
He was only on our team 8 days. That makes sense.
I’d like to think Posey will hit 15 HRs this year, but I can’t hope that much any more. This morning I read that he’s being shut down a bit in ST due to “tightness.” He won’t even DH for a few games, apparently.
via tweet, Schulman, in his passive-aggressive way, predicted that Z will swing a trade within the next week or so.
Pavlovic said the same thing more directly:

Theirs sure more excitement in the NFL right now with all the players moving around with multi year deals, then the ho humm baseball offseason hibernation.
so great.
Awesome.
With the snarkkettes fully involved the past 6 months in legit college applications, essays, scholarship forms, FAFSA forms, CSS forms, endless other forms, yada yada yada, and even giving up my 1040 to a couple of schools, this news about the 1% buying their way into “elite” schools sort of pisses me off. Sort of. We’ve not applied to those schools. (Pardon me, but I don’t include USC in the “elite” group, not surprised it’s caught up in this. A Stanfoo coach, too). I won’t be POed as much if some of these parents actually get jail time; but I’m not holding my breath for that. Felicity Huffman and William H Macy on multiple calls plotting with some dude for cheating on multiple SATs for their kid, and getting somehow extra time for a private test taking? And, some of them got an adult ringer to take the exams? Bribe the private proctor to ignore that high-school-junior Jenny is 32, male and has a really heavy 5 o’clock shadow?? What a set of principles to teach their kids. Sounds like a movie script is in all of this somewhere…
My friends with college age kids have endless complaints about all the BS that goes on…
Dubs bench played like doggy doo in the first half against Houston.
Harden runs into people constantly and he gets the foul shots.
Curry gets hammered going to the bucket and no call…
Maybin was just charged with RFUI.
Flavor, your prediction record here is legendary, but you are way out on a limb with your Oaf call…
Our so called outfield prospects aren’t all that young, BTW. If they were any good they shoulda made it by now in most cases. They could’ve signed a pretty cheap veteran outfield and possibly contended for 2-3 years while everyone’s contracts expired – then dumped ’em for prospects in the final seasons of their deals. That’s what I woulda done anyway…
#MeToo
Did I steal that idea from you?
Highly possible…
Unless some major trades by the ZMan, I can’t see this squad hitting over 140 dingers…
Same old questions:
Who’s available and what do we have to offer?
Mac thx for the box above I was gonna look into that, game at Polo with Bruton Aaron Mays and a triple. I love these, so many cool things/players. Hoyt Wilhelm finished up for Giants. my god how long did this guy play?
I think Wilhelm homered in his first ML AB and never again…
Clark’s feat of homering in his first AB off Ryan was topped by Marcus Thames who hit the very first ML pitch he ever saw into the seats off none other than Randy Johnson…
I think Batting Stance Guy has a better chance at 20 bombs than any of our outfielders.
You know your team’s had a bad year when the most enduring memory is a guy (Belt) fouling off about 20 pitches in one AB…
