First One In The Bank

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 31, 2019

If you can put aside the fact that a single A non-prospect handcuffed us for 5 innings, it’s nice to revel a little in the first win of the season. Scores like 3-2 are how we did it in the old days. Sadly, we won’t be able to do this enough times to avoid last place (guaranteed).

The Padres offense isn’t very good. If the Giants had to face a team like LA or Seattle, who have 26 combined homeruns this season (we have 1), we’d be getting waxed by 5+runs a game.

But hey, put one on the board.

We’re facing another pitcher I’ve never heard of today. “Chris Paddack”. At least we get to see how the team fares against a right hander.

It would be nice to see the fabulous Flurry freak brothers (Joe and Reed) contribute more than Ks to the box scores.

We really do seem to have a stud bullpen. If we could just get to the 7th with a lead. ……

Adam Jones (the guy Z didn’t sign) hit his 2nd HR yesterday, in losing effort for AZ. Night before AZ roughed up newly acquired Joe Kelly and eventually beat LA in 13.
Strick to the IL (lat strain, uh right) after blowing save while giving up 3 run bomb to Red Sox and taking L Friday night. The more things change…

Auburn’s Okeke did tear ACL, that’s too bad. Great games yesterday.

Watching Moronta’s 6th and he was filthy. Jesus. Plain nasty shit.

Smargle on the mound today? Hold on to your diapers, babies. This could get ugly.

    • Flavor said, on March 31, 2019 at 11:09 am

If we can’t hit this no name guy it will barely matter what Smarge does.

  7. Bozo said, on March 31, 2019 at 1:40 pm

    What a throw by Para.

    • Bozo said, on March 31, 2019 at 1:43 pm

A RBI single to right turns into the 3rd out when he threw the dude out at first.

  8. Macdog said, on March 31, 2019 at 1:42 pm

    Bailed out by Parra.

    • Bozo said, on March 31, 2019 at 1:43 pm

      That was awesome.

    • xoot said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:22 pm

Does this team need Reed in RF, ever again?

      • Bozo said, on March 31, 2019 at 3:32 pm

Not sure they even need him on the bench, Xoot.

Can’t figure out if Paddack looks more like Danny Noonan or Peter Jacobsen…..

    I’m gonna go with Noonan.

    • Bozo said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:12 pm

      I 2nd that.

I’m liking his routes to the ball.

  11. sandog said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:13 pm

I’ve been out on the road, so this is the first game I’ve been able to watch. I dig both patches.

  12. unca_chuck said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:18 pm

Kratz with the klank. Jesus. See if Smarge gets through that.

    Hey Kuip, wake up !!
Listening on the radio, it took him a minute to realize the runner got doubled off…

props to anyone who had Auburn beating Carolina and Kentucky.
Duke had big run but Cassius Winston bringing Sparty back. Cool player, love this guy’s game.

    Panda giveth Panda taketh away.

  22. zumiee said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:51 pm

I would PH for Smarj. The Giants got 5 good innings from him today. Take that and be happy.

    • zumiee said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:52 pm

      Bochy agrees!

  23. unca_chuck said, on March 31, 2019 at 2:51 pm

  26. James said, on March 31, 2019 at 3:04 pm

I look at those minor league stats for C. Joe, and hope that they stick with him for a while.

  27. alleykat69 said, on March 31, 2019 at 3:18 pm

It’s almost on cue with this team.Belt gets on should of been at 2nd on a bouncer in the dirt, doesn’t read the play good, gets thrown out and Craw K’s on cue, that’s your SF Giants in a nutshell..

  28. zumiee said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:00 pm

A couple of Sandoval errors messed them up.

  29. zumiee said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:03 pm

They have to play great defense to be able to compete.

  30. willedav said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:03 pm

no more miracles pls. State up 2 with 8 seconds.

  31. alleykat69 said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:05 pm

Sandoval’s a liability, but then again the whole team is, so it just doesn’t matter..

  32. willedav said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:09 pm

    yaha! No mo Duke!

  33. Macdog said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:09 pm

Hideous is all I can say what Flannery,Estes, and the babe are wearing on the post game show!!
“My Teams Sport “spelled out in a bunch of squares, thought they were all wearing pajamas..

  35. alleykat69 said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:14 pm

Great to see Izzo get the best of Coach K!!!

  36. Flavor said, on March 31, 2019 at 4:56 pm

Kruk on the post game show dumbfounded about where the offense is. Thinks the “rivalry” will get the bats going tomorrow in LA. Oh Kruk, this is going to be ugly…..

  37. unca_chuck said, on March 31, 2019 at 5:21 pm

Right we average 0.8 runs a game. They average 8.

  38. unca_chuck said, on March 31, 2019 at 5:23 pm

Mich. St is my only team going to the final 4. While Macdog flies up the board.

    • Macdog said, on March 31, 2019 at 5:43 pm

Ha, I pick Sparty all the way in a pool just about every year and they usually let me down. So far, so good.

  39. gianthead said, on March 31, 2019 at 5:40 pm

I needed Purdue in all my pools…would have put me in our pool tied for 5th and one point behind Mac Dog, but we both have Michigan State winning it all so could only finish in 2nd…

    • Macdog said, on March 31, 2019 at 5:46 pm

And I had Virginia. Sometimes it takes a little luck . . .

  40. onwardstotheravine said, on March 31, 2019 at 6:32 pm

You guys are about to be pummeled by the division champs in LA.

    • Flavor said, on March 31, 2019 at 7:24 pm

Really? Wow I had no idea. Go fuck yourself until you can come back here with something we don’t know.

A rainy dark heavy humid Monday morning in Hanoi, as always my morning read on the Flap with a cup of joe before heading out to the university. Funny thing: I said a couple days ago I don’t really even care about wins/losses this season, just want to see *progress* and a little entertainment. I usually read the Flap comments before checking the scores on MLB; this thread, couldn’t even tell from the comments if the G’s won or lost. Maybe it doesn’t matter so much on the Flap either. I guess I’ll always know what happened at a glance as long as Zum keeps putting Clint up after a win….

    • Flavor said, on March 31, 2019 at 7:33 pm

“a little entertainment” is hard to come by when you can’t score runs

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on March 31, 2019 at 8:37 pm

        I’m generally easily entertained…. 🙂

  42. mrsprtdude said, on March 31, 2019 at 7:54 pm

5 runs in 4 games. Awesome. Dodgers hit 8 homers on opening day. We have none. 1st contest of the year: How many games in to the 2019 season will SF be when we hit our 8th HR?

  43. willedav said, on March 31, 2019 at 7:58 pm

Progress is hard to say Paul. smardz actually threw 5 shutout innings and Giants led briefly but pen and errors gave it away. they’ve hardly scored and have 1 bomb in 4 games vs. Padres, while LA has been pounding ball vs. AZ.
Pomeranz gets first start vs. Dodgers kid prospect Urias, then bum vs. Ryu.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on March 31, 2019 at 8:38 pm

Yeah, I’m not really expecting or looking for progress game by game, it’s more long term over the course of the whole season with Z’s constant forecast of flurries…. we’ll see.

  44. zumiee said, on March 31, 2019 at 9:21 pm

It’s still a power game with juiced baseballs. That’s not changing.
