Ugly Starts Right Now
Krukow thinks “the rivalry” will get the bats going tonight. Hmmmm….quick check of the last time the Giants played the Dodgers……last September 30th….they lost 15-zip.
But hey, different year, different team?
Easily the most frustrating thing about this season (so far) is the pitching. They didn’t face much in SD but they’re still rolling out a team ERA of 2.45. I didn’t think they would be that good. That’s frustrating. And it’s all been a total waste. This has just been confirmation that Zaidi did nothing this off season—except make the offense worse.
Think about that. He took something that was already terrible. And made it worse. Joe? Reed? Parra? 37 catchers through a revolving door?
We needed bats and he brought us magic beans.
PomPom gonna be up against it tonight. If we hold them to 8 runs or less I’ll be surprised but honestly, those hitters are probably tired. That’s our only shot, they’re tired….
Whatever, I’ll say we lose 8-1. Much better than 15-0, improvement?
Final note to Dodger trolls: We know we are terrible. Don’t be so insecure that you celebrate doing what every other team in the league will be doing this year. Celebrate when you actually win something. Until you win the World Series you are losers just like us. You just lose later in the season….
Custer thought the riivlary at Little Big Horn might be fun as well..
I say accept the fact we are tanking the season for high draft picks. I’m OK with that strategy.
There was no point in trying to be 81-81 this season. The whole offense sucks. One or two additions wasn’t going to make the team a contender. We need a massive overhaul. A complete tear-down.
The mistake Zaidi is making is in lack of communication with the fans. He should be talking about a multi-year plan. The Cubs, Braves, Astros, and Phils all talked to their fans about the plan, and asked for patience. There’s a concept- actually ask the fans for patience.
Zaidi has fudged on that part, unfortunately. Baer can be blamed, too. Baer doesn’t want to talk long term patience.
Obviously the talent sucks, but sometimes if you just play a fundamental sound game you will take a few.Example 1-0 G’s Padre on 1st , line drive out to Panda at 3rd, didn’t have a good handle on it as he tried to nail the guy at 1st, and Chuck’s it over Belt as the guy goes to 2nd then scores on a baehit which is just too predictable against us.Bottom line Panda should of just eaten the ball their and they probably would not of scored…
Panda has one of our 2 XBH’s though.
Latrine gang banging fans are scumbags as well.
They pulled another”Bryan Stow” night in the parking lot the other night, leaving a father of 4 in a coma with his head bashed into the concrete..
At least pitching so far is encouraging; maybe Curt Young can get more out of what they have. to me that is half the battle, allowing fewer runs to keep team in the game. That will be challenged in LA. Interested to see how Pomeranz does. And look at it this way–hopefully Bum gets 3 ABs.
Takeaway from the Stros is how well they were built from draft—Correa Bregman Altuve and how they managed to turn Springer into an excellent hitter and develop pitching. Then they added in vets.
Braves and Phils are better sure, but only some of the young guys have worked out. Braves already had a Freeman and Phils spent their “stupid money” on likes of Arrieta Cutch and of course Harper.
Braves are currently 0-3 too btw and could finish 4th in that division.
This series could be brutal, sure. But, Gyros usually get one down at the Latrine. Doghair trolls are funny — it’s a little early to be trolling, even though SF does suck right now…
Actually if we had 2 OFers that could hit, it would do worlds for the team. Jones and Marwin wouldn’t provide the stairway to the playoffs, but at least there would be the threat of a crooked number or 2 in the box score. Instead we have 5 runs in 4 games. The outfield of the corn. Less than Zero brigade. The Black Hole in the Outfield Wall gang. The, uh, i don’t know, shittiest outfield in the majors AND AAA.
These guys make the Bowker gang look like murderer’s row.
We’ve scored in 3 innings out of 36 so far.
outrageous. Sad. Predictable.
Is it too soon to pine for the salad days of Gorkys and all that power?…
Here’s the deal with this *rebuild* stuff: It’s not a rebuild to just get a shitty record and a high draft pick. This isn’t basketball or football. Other shit needs to go down as well. Starting with, ditching these bloated deals. Send the big contract guys packing. If you have to eat some/most of the deal, you do it. Trade a bad contract for another bad contract with maybe a year less to pay on it. Incremental steps. Z is doing and has done nothing in terms of shedding payroll.
Right. Who thought Mac and Gorkys would be the apex rather than the bottom of the barrel?
Yeah, I didn’t expect the brass would let Farhan dump 4 guys and eat $80-90 mill, but I thought they’d dump ONE bad deal. Say Melonhead. Even a straight dumpage would be better than nothing. He’s purely and utterly worthless.
I’d expect if the season crawls the way it looks to crawl, they’ll do something like DFA Melonhead by the middle of May.
He hasn’t even pitched a inning yet to fuck up with this year, but yeah walk the plank Melonhead!!
Waiting for the Dodgers to tee off on him, maybe tonight in garbage time??
Versus the Padres
Duggar – 15 ABs, 7 Ks, 1 double,
Reed, – 7ABs, 5 Ks, 0 hits,
Joe – 8 ABs, 4 Ks, 1 walk and
Parra – 8 ABs, 2Ks, 1 double.
Versus the Dodgers
Adam Jones – 19 ABs, 4 Ks, 7 hits including 1 double and 2 HRs.
Yeah, adding him to the team wouldn’t have helped much, except maybe adding a win or two in that four game set against the Pads.
I see what you’re saying; I’m just saying the analytics don’t work that way. Nobody is a 1 or 2 win player in 4 games, not even Trout.
2 players is 25% of your roster. Having 2 guys that hit 15-20 homers would do much better than 2 guys who won’t hit 8 between them.
Not necessarily. It depends on onbase percentage and what they do or don’t do on defense, too.
Exactly. Adding Jones and Maybin would do a lot for the team. At least against the toehr also-rans. Instead we will go down meekly to the shit teams, and get slaughtered by the likes of the Dogs.
I just think it’s a real disservice to Bochy that the front office said “win with this shit roster”.
Bochy’s getting paid $6 million this season. He could have walked away from the $6 million. I think any of us could have put up with losing a bunch of ballgames to make $6 million.
I would think keeping Maybin around would of cut into Bochy’s wine bottle collection..
Still and all, it’s bullshit they don’t want to even give him a decent send-off. It’s the big kiss-off. Like the front office is saying, you own this lame-duck season, Bruce, I’ll re-tool and dump contracts next year when the next manager gets a grace period while we make more moves. A fucking PR (Larry Baer) move.
I split at the break if I’m Bochy and say fuck off to your farewell tour.
I don’t think a lot of people considered Bill Walsh to be the master of the decent send-off.
Well, Walsh got run out on a rail by Dwight Clark and Carmen Policy when he was GM but that’s neither here nor there. That’s a more apt comparison though.
They could have done a couple not-so-costly things that would have made this team suck less.
Who know? Maybe Connor Joe (from Kokomo) and Michael Reed ARE major leaguers. But I highly doubt it.
I get the feeling Zaidi is going to get pretty hammered by a lot of the Flap for the next couple of years.
The more the Giants lose, the easier it will get for Zaidi to start jettisoning fan favorites who are under-producing and clearly declining. But he needs to be communicating with the fans. Jeter did a lousy job communicating with Marlins fans, and he started jettisoning guys off who were actually still great players. Jeter’s been trying to make up lost ground with their fans ever since.
He’s hamstrung by their contracts. The ownership group fired the last 2 guys who tried to get rid of bad deals.
Zaidi can say were not tanking even though the veterans suck so much that the tanking happens anyway. Maybe he’s fine with that, as long as he stays off social media. 🙂
again, tanking in itself isn’t enough. It will take 6 years or more to assemble a decent team if all they do is lose. They need to get rid of as many old vets as possible this year and next. Shedding payroll can be an incremental thing, nobody wants Belt, Crawford, Posey, etc. But he could cast them off one at a time if he does it the right way. Sadly, he’s doing nothing and has done nothing.
Teams might take our pricey under-producing veterans if packaged with prospects, but we don’t have a lot of prospects getting buzz. We’re not going to give up Bart and Anderson, nor should we. Ramos could be on the block at some point, though. He’s the type of hacker that Zaidi isn’t real big on.
Here we go again!
I know. This will be year 30 of another loser year for the Dodgers. Three fucking decades of zero championships. Not sure how you guys put up with that type of futility…..
Awesome…
Kershaw is good for a big choke moment or two in every playoff, year after year. Dodger fans don’t like Bumgarner, because Bum has had the playoff career that they wish Kershaw had. But Kershaw hasn’t even been close to Bum’s level of playoff excellence. A case can be made that Bum is the most successful playoff pitcher ever in MLB history.
Zumie all in on the Z man, although zzzzzzzzzz isn’t.
Of the big contract 30+ liabilities, the face of the franchise seems to me most at risk of falling way below his career numbers.
Cubbies with 6 errors tonight.
in 6 innings. It’s outrageous.
The defensive metrics are pretty conclusive in this case!
Yankees lost Andujar today. Time for Zaidi to wake up and do something. Here’s an opportunity to ditch Longo, maybe you give him away for nothing, maybe you eat some salary, but fucking DO SOMETHING
Bochy, with a stiff upper lip, a few more “welllllllll”s, and an S-load of post-game Cab, should be able to put up with a bad penny year to bank 6 million simoleons. I would have NO problem with that…
We’re stacking lefties to start these games, I’m going out on limb since we usually play them tough, they will take 2 out of 3 because of are lefty pitching!
Never to early in the season to also say “FUCK LA!”
April fools?
Adam Jones, lead off bomb
Vs. the Pads.
Of course. 2 more home runs than our 25.
With Gearrin gone, we have our new human rain delay in Pomerantz.
Fundamentally unsound. Surprised? Nope.
I think Flav is right here–Giants can trade bad contract or dump one off at a time. Might have to pay $$$ and not get as much as you want back but plenty doable. I’d include Posey there too—surprising amount of old catchers still around and starting or platooning, including Russell Martin.
Giants model should not be Braves or some other tanking team. that to me is disrespectful of fanbase and not an option for a team that makes kinda $$$ they do. Follow the Red Sox model and dump the underproductive.
If you need to fill in gaps then trade or sign FA. I wasn’t upset Giants signed Cutch– though he couldn’t match 2017 numbers he did hit 15 bombs and put up .770 OPS. Giants got Pirates and Yanks to cover part of salary. But I’m really disappointed they didn’t go get someone who could match that or better. Instead you’ve got Joe and Reed, dumpster dive replacement level players. For that the Giants could have kept Slater and Shaw.
And as Dirt prophesied, turned the Yard into “Snoracle.”
And they haven’t even played there yet
One more rant–IF Bart is real deal and can hit, with power, then last position he should be playing is C.
Throw him in there at 1b, now.
I said the same thing, except I had him playing third.
What the hell, the dude still has legs, stick him in Left.
Ballgame
sigh
Ballgame twice!
Hey!!
Belt gets one back.
Is it ever not a quality at bat if I guy hits a HR?
Hey Muncy, nice flip of the bat on that fly out.
Hah! Yeah, saw that. A lead off hit?
Wow. That pitch was behind Panda when he swung at it.
Panda gets him in, tied up.
Panda!
Wotus did well to stop the walrus.
Glad he did, that had disaster written all over it.
Duggar, with the two out double. Gets Kelly out of the game.
YES!!!!
Belt drives in a couple more runs. Gets Alexander out of the game.
Hey now , , ,
Forget Longo to Yanks, Belt’s the one you gotta trade, right now.
Double HR 3 rbis, vs. LA? Value will never be higher.
This guy Kelly ain’t off to a great start with his new team either.
Wonder what Roberts analytics say about that?
Hey, 1-2-3 from Melancon.
Melancon with a clean 7th.
Don’t know what;’s more surprising. The Giants taking the lead, or Melonhead getting a ho-hum 1-2-3 inning.
Be nice to see Posey do more than meekly fly out.
. . . and he meekly flies out
Taking it to the 9th.
Parra and Duggar. Doubles machines:)
I’d have rather seen MadBum pinch-hit than this stiff.
Reed = Nothing.
Belt snags Seager. DodgerNation on twitter not too happy.
Reed and Joe are absolute zeroes. As in batting averages.
Got him!
Yes!!! Where’s is Clint?
Beat L.A.!
A real nice business like win, 4 doubles, 1 HR and nice relief work. .
Yes, and real clean defense, too.
One down 2 to go.
Scoreless from pen combo. Bochy schools Roberts. Kelly now has an ERA of even 18.00
On any given Monday…..
nothing better than taking the wind out of these assholes sails.
Yep.
