Fwar Career Leader, Willie Mays
Question for you Mays-heads: I met someone yesterday, big Mays fan, who was telling me about the time he met him in person. Yadda yadda, you’ve heard all that before from Pawlie, but then he whipped out the card he said Mays gave him (12 years ago). Said he keeps it with him always. Yikes. Anyway, here is the back of it. It says “This card was personally given to me by Willie Mays.”
Does Mays still do this? Is it his way of not having to sign autographs?

Fwar’s from last night’s loss:
Duggar: 1.0 (bomb)
Parra: 1.0 (bomb)
Posey: 1.0 (hitting the wall on the fly, I didn’t think he still had that in him).
Don’t know if Willie hands those cards out or not, but you can get one for $350 on Ebay https://www.ebay.com/i/323712208208?chn=ps
I do like the Happy Halloween from Willie Mays though – Orange October.
My wife got him to sign a Hummmm Baby tshirt around 30 years ago. She used to work at the airport hilton and the Giants were doing some function there. She has Roger Craig, Al Rosen, Mays, Clark, and Lon Simmons. She met Krukow and Kuiper said Krukow was an arrogant prick. Not sure where that thing is.
Got to say, the pic of Willie on the card is cool but odd.
I saw this and instantly thought of Twin.

Get a chance to catch some of early game today. Tough matchup, Corbin was very tough on SF last season and has been difficult for LH to solve. One bad game so far when Mets RH roughed him up for 3 bombs in NYC.
Looking at some splits for Duggar, so far he has 2 BBs total in 80+ plate appearances, to go with 25 Ks.
8 for his last 24 with some pop and doing way better in small sample size away from home, so see what happens rest of road trip.
Like to see OB pick up (and not just for him of course) so he can make better use of the speed.
RF S. Duggar L
1B Tyler Austin R
CF Kevin Pillar R
LF Brandon Belt L
3B E. Longoria R
SS B. Crawford L
2B Y. Solarte S
C Erik Kratz R
P D. Pomeranz R
Go Giants!
It must be nice to score runs in the 1st inning.
Hey Wille, Duggar got a walk — and then got picked off/caught stealing. He seems to have baserunning issues.
yeah saw that went on the first move. Just missed making 2 nice catches too.
meanwhile Pomeranz can’t stand prosperity. Every time 2 guys out no one on he gets lit.
Looks like Bochy has had enough of plate ump along with pillar and belt.
Well, get the fucking bat off your shoulders imbecile!!!!
Lulz.
Belt’s so frustrating. He’s our best hitter by a country mile, we’re behind by 3 runs; the team hadn’t even gotten a hit to that point (5th inning); two strikes on him; and he’s looking for a freakin’ walk. Arrrrggghhh!
and another 2 out f up. Thought Pomeranz had worked himself out of it, but no.
Belt would be much better on another team. I think we all know this at this point.
I’ve told this story before working for the Giants ’92 baseball stadium campaign that I got Mays’ to sign a 1962 Sports Illustrated cover…framed and hanging in my office at home.. .glad stayed away from Nats Park for this ugly one so I can tee off about 4:40…
Belt’s a good enough hitter imo to take advantage of the shift too if they pitch him away. Ump has been calling that pitch, even if it’s not really a strike so you have to adjust.
I watched M Brantley last night burn the A’s who shifted on him. He slid a single right through open space where SS would normally be and drove in a runner from 2b.
Corbin owns them all today though.
hey now making it interesting in 9th!
No idea this was an early game. No Clint means no win. Another series down the tubes.
Pfffffffffft.
Solarte’s been under the radar horseshit…
yes. The LH middle IF hasn’t done much but he isn’t adding anything from RH.
and the Avelino guy RH they got from Yanks (Cutch deal?) is 10-48 1 bomb in Sac. yikes!
Suddenly Game 3 of the Warriors/Clippers series has caught a lot of interest in the sports world.
this is why we need robot umpires. Fuck Joe West.
That’s a great fucking story, well told. Lo Duca’s not exactly a reputable witness, but I’ll bet he’s reliable. Reputable is way over-rated.
Yeah, and Donaghy was the only, only dirty NBA ref …
Warriors are delivering a dose of reality check to the Clippers.
Yeah, KD went off.
Looney played pretty darn well, and the late pickup of Bogut looks like genius…
