1.0 Moratorium

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 21, 2019

While #1 certainly did enough to take down another 1.0 yesterday I am not bestowing it upon him. Why? Because it’s time to get back to the essence of what this great sabermetric stat is all about: Did the player do something beyond ordinary to help the team win? Our team doesn’t win.

So while Pillar is the only hitter who did jackshit yesterday, it’s time to hold him and the rest of his lesser compatriots to a higher standard.

You want a 1.0? Go win a game.

Just go win a fucking baseball game.

Happy Easter.

this is just so disheartening. Look at this. Boring. Uninspiring.

At least D-Rod brings a little interest to the game.

    • willedav said, on April 21, 2019 at 8:49 am

not saying Bochy should not have been the guy to fall on his sword for all the losing, but look what he has to put out there. Who is winning with this group? It’s not like there is next Mike Trout or Juan soto in the pipeline either. He has pitching and I think he handles it well for most part. but not a lot he can do with LU that is at Mendoza line.

Team BA is .206. They’ve scored 64 runs in 22 games. Giants are 14th in NL : runs HRs BB BA OB and dead last in Slugging and OPS. Only other team I guess they are ahead of would be Marlins and it’s a stretch to call them ML team.
By contrast pitching has 3rd best ERA in the leaue and most other categories no worse than 4th including bombs allowed. Flems said few days ago Giants D was among best in the league though obviously DRS is a funky stat.
It is fair to wonder what type of mgr. Z would bring in next and what would happen to existing staff.

Zumiee: From the end of the last thread, I’m sure Bochy would still get his millions if he agreed to step aside. They’ll give him one of those stupid titles and finally move on. I would have even more respect for Bochy if he cited the team’s performance and need for a change rather than a phony health issue. Give Bam Bam his audition and see if he can make a difference. There is no downside to any experiment in the Dark Ages…

    • snarkk said, on April 21, 2019 at 10:21 am

      Totally down with that.
Some of us here called for Bochy to go fishing in the offseason, seeing this coming.
I don’t see the point in him going through a third painful season in a row to end a career.
An audition for Bam Bam is not a bad idea. I’d like to see somebody else manage this bad team to see if they can get more out of it, or at least make it more watchable…

I’ll admit I’m not following this team much. Will they hit .206 all year? No, but without lot of changes they won’t be that much better, I think. The core infield just looks pretty limp for the rest of their contracts. Looking forward to the next ZMan moves. This Pen has to be used to get hitting prospects. I expect Giants to get swept today, Pittsburgh is usually a bad penny place for this team, for some reason — and the reason now is this team just can’t friggin’ hit a lick, let alone hit with any power…

    Bart Watch:
After 10 games, he’s coming back to earth a bit:
    .270, .341, .541, .882
    2 HRs

After 10 games, Garcia at River Cats has a bit of a weird stat line, due to a good number (6) of walks:
    .231, .333, .538, .872
    3 HRs
15Ks means a K rate of 38%. Ouch, but hey, the SLG means he’s right in there with current-day baseball…

    • Flavor said, on April 21, 2019 at 10:31 am

Bart is out for 2 months with a busted hand

      • djloo27 said, on April 21, 2019 at 10:46 am

        That’s no excuse…

      • snarkk said, on April 21, 2019 at 10:50 am

Criminy, I’ve really not been paying attention. On the 16th.
Giants are karmically paying for the 3 in 5…

  7. djloo27 said, on April 21, 2019 at 10:37 am

Giants-Pirates is the MLB-TV free game of the day.
    It’s overpriced…

  8. blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 11:41 am

No doubter bomb by Bell. Sigh . . .

  9. Macdog said, on April 21, 2019 at 11:49 am

    OMG! Can it be?!?

  10. djloo27 said, on April 21, 2019 at 11:49 am

    BUST OUT!!!

  11. blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 11:52 am

Deepest part of center too. Very impressive bomb by Buster.

  12. blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 11:56 am

Maybe I heard that wrong from the Pirates broadcaster . . . “1st home run by Buster against the Pirates.” Ever???

    • Macdog said, on April 21, 2019 at 12:14 pm

Yep. Baseball Reference shows Buster zero career HRs vs. Pirates.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 12:21 pm

        ty Mac 🙂

  13. snarkk said, on April 21, 2019 at 12:15 pm

Posey with the bomb, how about that.
First HR for him since June 2018. That’s gotta be something like 80 games without a dinger, allowing for the time at the end last season he didn’t play to get the hip surgery.
If the Giants had even just a whiff of power in this lineup, it would make things so much more interesting…

When do you guys think this team is competitive again? 2020 season? 2021?
I don’t see it until at least 2021. If things go well.
The only strength in this organization is the major league club’s Pen. The SF starters are OK to a little above average, IMO, for the entire season.
The minors are by and large, a wasteland.
Use the one strength, the Pen, as trade inventory. It’s no use to keep it, when you can’t hit and minors are a desert of talent. Plus, the team is going nowhere in 2019, a great Pen is an unecesary asset.
Trade those arms for solid OF talent prospects in AA, and possible replacement pen arms in A or lower ball, essentially a crapshoot, but you don’t need them until 2021 at earliest. What you need sooner is real hitting prospects …

    • zumiee said, on April 21, 2019 at 12:42 pm

The revival will be with Bart in the middle of the batting order. I think Posey goes to first base and Belt to left field. The new manager will be told by the brass that Bart is the catcher. No waffling on that.
Hopefully Heliot Ramos develops as a good MLB player.

    • blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 12:53 pm

In my opinion, this season will be the nadir of their awfulness and we’ll see discernible improvement next season. They still will not be “competitive” insofar as a Wild Card, much less divisional aspirations.

Actually competitive? Possibly 2021 at the earliest . . . more likely in 2022.

Kang is slow. No idea why the Pirates manager let him run. Giants quite fortunate on that last play. Bring on Clint!

  17. Macdog said, on April 21, 2019 at 1:32 pm

I was on the road, Giants threw runner out at home to win it?

    • blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2019 at 1:40 pm

Yes Mac. Reynolds doubled and Kang thrown out by a country mile. I thought the dude had slipped or something. On the 3rd play review, it clearly showed him running full steam (for him), but just too slow to beat the throw.

      • Macdog said, on April 21, 2019 at 1:44 pm

        Thanks Blade, whatever it takes.

      • Macdog said, on April 21, 2019 at 2:04 pm

Just saw the play, yeah, that wasn’t close. I like how Buster chucks the ball to the side when it ended

1 win every series cept Colo.

  21. willedav said, on April 21, 2019 at 6:11 pm

Blue Jays walked into Oaktown and swept their ass 3 straight so they’ll be feeling good too for Tuesday/Wed series. Hanson led off and played 2b for them.

    • xoot said, on April 21, 2019 at 8:25 pm

Dumping Hanson and sticking with Solarte may turn out to be Zaidi’s one mistake, so far. The stats don’t say so, yet. But I miss Wildman and I have no faith in his replacement. On the other hand, that’s not a fatal error.

  22. willedav said, on April 21, 2019 at 6:13 pm

Warriors struggled today and were down 3-4 points 3rd quarter. This is good, more motivational stuff for Kerr—stay out of foul trouble and take care of the ball and they can overcome adversity.

  23. zumiee said, on April 21, 2019 at 7:11 pm

Jansen gives up a 3-run HR, and ends up getting the win instead of Kershaw. I’ve moved in the last couple of years to agreeing with Bryan Kenny that a pitcher’s won/loss record is a silly pointless stat that is out of date.

  24. willedav said, on April 21, 2019 at 8:03 pm

    Sharks!
