Time for a Molson Golden
What do you think Toronto has planned for Pillar today? Video tribute? Parade? Keys to city presentation?
Theoretically, this is a good match up for us. Their offense stinks (not quite as bad as ours). Our pitching is a little better than theirs. Does the DH break the tie? We’ll see.
The Expos were always one of my favorite teams. They were never very good but they had players that are burned into my memory. Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Warren Cromartie, Tim Raines….Those guys were the shit.
The Expos were very good in ‘94, but…..a strike ended the season. That team couldn’t catch a break.
Expos were a cool team from late ’70s on. Speier spent number of years there. Ellis Valentine Dave Cash. Raines and Dawson were tremendous players. Felipe of course managed them in ’90s and did well for few years, with son Moises and Marquis Grissom Rondell White.
Gotta admit, never liked Gary Carter much. Hella player though.
The old joke though was that even in July, there were 3 Montreal daily papers that covered the Canadiens; baseball was always gonna be second fiddle.
Chuck, if Circle Star is/was that venue off Bayshore about Redwood City where you saw Chuck Berry and Little Richard, I was at that show also. Chuck berry was totally drunk and even forgot words to Mabilene (sic).
hah! Too funny. Musta been around ’75 or ’76. Loved that place.
That’s the time frame for me, too. Very disappointed in Check Berry. Little Richard was a hoot. Remember that very big, buff young “protégé” that L.R. made such a big deal over. I think he even let him sign a song. He was definitely “out” at that time. Few years before the AIDS panic hit.

Circle Star, great place/pain to get in and out of. Saw lot of good jazz musicians there, including Grover Washington Stanley Turrentine Freddie Hubbard. Also a tremendous show with Patti LaBelle opening for Richard Pryor.
Pryor was awesome, with that chuckle laugh of his after he said something outrageous. He was talking about girls/guys whether they were having good time there and then he says, “Guys only want to know one thing. Are we gonna F…? And there’s only 2 answers, yes no and maybe. Maybe means yes but you’re gonna have to talk to them for 4 hours.”
Nice story on Giants Fwar leader in Chron today. Went to small D-2 school in SoCal, stayed 4 years, had 54 game hitting streak at one point and got business degree. Drafted by Toronto in 32nd round, after 900 some other guys. Pretty amazing feat just to get to this level and as Flav said fan fav in Toronto.
Signed through this year only according to B/R and arb eligible 2020.
I saw Gallagher at the Circle Star once. That was the only time I ever went in there. All other times I was driving by it on my way to Bay Meadows.
Sadly both are gone. Back in the day there was open space between RC and San Carlos, San Carlos and Belmont, and Belmont and San Mateo. I miss living in San Carlos.
That was the only time I went to Circle Star, too. I wasn’t much of a “venue” guy. Preferred two on one. Me, a bottle and a girl.

During a stretch of poverty after college (apt burned down with all my stuff and few hundred LPs plus a fender bass/amp) I worked at nearby GTE Lenkurt plant, in mailroom. cool job got to run around the place in these golf carts and they had a coed softball league and mailroom set up a team to play other parts of plant.
One day after work bunch of us went over to Meadows and I had some good luck and was able to pay off a big debt in cash.
That was on Industrial, right? I worked in the Levitz building in the back. an air conditioning company.
What was the bar on Industrial and Harbor that had Monday night spaghetti dinner for cheap as hell? Loved that spot.
yes. Never went drinking with group. Their haunt I did hit once or twice was Bit Of England.
Oh shit. The BIT! I used to live by the library on Floribunda and could walk to (and stagger home from) the Bit. There was the Black Horse, the Full Moon Saloon, Route 66, La Pinata, the Bit, and a few other bars I can’t remember on Burlingame ave. The Bit was always the place to go after a giants game.
It’s gonna be a busy night for Toronto fans, in likely order of importance:
1. Maple Leafs vs. Bruins at Boston in Game 7.
2. Raptors vs. Magic at Toronto in Game 5, Raptors can clinch series with a win.
3. Blue Jays vs. Giants. Jays come in hot, winning 4 straight, and can get to .500 with a win.
Leafs only team left from Canada, right? When Loo mentioned Roger Doucet best singer of anthem I went to youtube and checked out few of his versions, wonderful. Everyone in comments said same thing as Loo, he was the best. And these were fans from Boston Detroit Toronto Philly, who must have hated Canadiens and Montreal Forum.
Yep, Calgary and Winnipeg were knocked out, so the Leafs are the last hope for Canada.
Excellent article about San Diego and the Padres. How a city of “transplants” are finally coming together, even though the “existing culture is laid-back”, and the previous “losing augmented indifference.”

guessing Gorkey’s hasn’t ever dealt with a media onslaught like this….
What would the media crush be like if Pillar were a really good player? I guess he was popular up there. He’s going to have to hit at least a massive .225 to be that popular at Oracle…
Watching the Toronto broadcast and they are not going to have a commercial break, but show a video of Pillar on the stadium big screen after the completion of this inning.
Unfuckingbelievable. Especially considering that the Giants are tied with the Orioles for 29th with 12 outs on base thus far this season.
Played the Superman theme song for Pillar. Nice tribute. Obviously well loved in Toronto.
Pillar was acquired basically for free. Wonder how the blue jay fans are digging on that trade. Justing by the 2 standing O’s they’ve given him, they ain’t diggin’ it so much
Quiz Question – What was Zaidi’s favorite team growing up in the Philippines?
The islanders?
The Phillies?
Canadian Belted!
Shouldn’t that be Canadian clubbed?
this is absolutely incredible.
So no Giant has done that in the U.S. so far.
Oh boy. Tronto doing all they can to help
Oh dear
Oh fuck.
Hopefully a rally killing Grand slam
excellent take
And some of the 60 picks will be Europeans.
yes. Even if each team took a couple to their G League affiliate, it’s still barely half of them.
Saw a mock draft on cbs where K Z Okpala went middle of first round, which would suck for Coach Haase and Stanford.
Yay.
2 in a row!
i fucking love this guy
He only shows up when our closer slams the door (and I’m awake)…
How about that shit? Damn fine win. Play the Panda, let the Panda pitch, let him catch, let him manage, more Panda, Panda power.
he’s hitting .344. Seems to me Bochy could find a way to squeeze his old Panda buddy into a line up of .204 hitters……
this was only a couple of years ago. Who the fuck was Ramiro Pena?????
I’m imagining Clint!!!
No clue who Pena is or was…
PS for the guys who liked Bob & Doug….they have a very funny recurring bit in the Disney movie Brother Bear!
Toronto Blue Jays was his favorite team growing up. lqtm
The Sharks game is nuts.
wow stopped watching when they were down 3-0, now in OT.
Holy shit Portland! How far out was Damian lillard when he hit the game winner?
No shit! I was halfway paying attention and gave up when Vegas made it 3-0 in the 3rd with like 12 mins left.
WTF happened?
Sharks scored 4 power-play goals to take the lead, and then Vegans scored with less than a minute left to tie it.
Vegas, haha.
Holy shit. They took the lead? Wow.
Awesome win for Portland.
Man, Lillard hit that one from Portland, Maine.
watching Sharks feed. Mac did you see the hit on Pavelski that caused all the power plays?
I missed that.
Sharks win!!!
YEAH!
Great night for Shark and the Sharks!
what a beautiful goal
and now the handshake
