As I thought going into that little 2-gamer, Toronto is a pretty good match up for us. If we can hang in there and play like this against the lesser teams I can get through the season. I’m not sure how many games I can watch all the way through, there will be a lot of radio involved, but as long as they aren’t embarrassing themselves it’s going to be ok.

Man, Friday is Big Maple vs Bumgarner. That one should be the best pitching match up we will see all year….

Friday is presenting quite the conundrum. Big Maple vs Bum? Or Game 6 in LA? A hole in my swing: I can’t watch baseball if there is another faster paced game on at the same time that I’m interested in. Therefore, it’s gonna be Game 6 but I’ll check in on the ballgame during the commercials.

xoot makes fair point, Sando has been doing well RH and is valuable bat off bench.
Longo also had good road trip, 3 doubles 2 HRs and drove in a run in 5 of 8 games. His slugging pct on road is around .500. He’s been flat awful at home–started season 1-17 and went 1-7 in 18 inning game vs. Rox.

The current Sando love affair just seems kinda odd. Prevailing mood here (and elsewhere) when he left was good riddance to bad rubbish. He’d never be in shape and was too selfish to do anything about it. His last season, stats had dropped to .739 OPS/16 HRs, and Sabes was offering $95 mil long term deal. Everyone seemed ecstatic Sox offered more and he took it, and then cratered.
Now at age 32 he’s a hero, on field and in the dugout/clubhouse. And definitely a Bochy favorite. I do think bochy had lot to do with him coming back.

Everybody loves a backup when the starter struggles. We are stuck with longo’s bad contract. He should play regularly. I already have a draft strategy ready. Outfielders from college for every pick. We will pick in the top 10 for sure. At least with the top 2 picks we can get guys who will be MLB ready fairly soon since they will already be 22 yo.

liked your end of thread comment re: Warriors. Clips gave them a wake up call earlier up here, Warriors seemed to sleep through the message. Hope they got it now–don’t bother to guard anyone or rebound you can’t always just outshoot the other guys and win 150-148.
They let Beverly and Gallinari get going early and then no one could stop Lou Williams. I’ve always admired guys like that, pure scorers who can come in off bench and light things up ala Vinnie the Microwave. Harrell is killing them too.

Curry only getting 15 shots up isn’t good especially since he hit 4 of 5 3s and helped bring them back. You have to make a guy like Williams pay at the other end of floor.
Lot of local sportswriters seem to have it in for Durant. Watching him last night kinda reminded me of Bernard King. Guy is basically unstoppable and Warriors would be in trouble if he walked out and signed elsewhere.

The odds for the warriors to win this series, and obviously Vegas took no action on this, was bet $50,000 on Dubs to win $100. How insane is that? I don’t know what the odds were on the Clippers to win. I think it was $2,000 to 1

  5. unca_chuck said, on April 25, 2019 at 10:10 am

Wow. It’s a different bet now, I’d think. The Warriors look disinterested at this point. Have to wonder what is happening in the locker room. If anything. Bagging on KD is ridiculous. What is weird is Steph being so non-involved yesterday. klay needs to attack the basket more and get to the line when his shot isn’t falling.

BTW, Mac (under) the knife is heating up in Sacto. Parra to the bench?

    327 .358 .551 .910, 3 HRs in his last 4 games.

  6. willedav said, on April 25, 2019 at 11:35 am

Slater too. lIke Mac he had crummy ST, hit.185 and got banished. In Sac he’s raking like he always had, .313/.476/.479. Only has 1 bomb so far and he’s not gonna be a power hitter ever. But BA/OB consistent at AAA. Always got hurt after he played for Giants.
Funny that all the guys who struggled in ST including Hanson got sent back or traded off. Fine but the others not named Pillar like Joe Reed Parra Solarte did zip. Z might have been better off leaving these guys alone.

Solarte and Parra are the latest holograms.

  8. unca_chuck said, on April 25, 2019 at 11:52 am

Yeah, the Warriors as a team looked old and slow. They were out-hustled all game.

If they get through this, and they should, what will Houston look like? I’m sure they’ll be up for it, but their play in this series leaves a lot to be desired effort-wise.

What the Warriors are attempting to do, win 4 championships in 5 years, is ridiculously difficult. No doubt they’re physically and mentally tired. It’ll be interesting to see how they grind on in these playoffs. They could still win it all, but it will be a huge challenge.

This is nuts. I remember when it was grass before they enclosed it. In 1969 i think is was still grass. I think they were about to start the construction for the 49ers as the astro-crete was already installed and you can see heavy equipment behind the OF fence. This must be 1970.

5 straight finals would be unheard of in this era of renting players. Bron Bron did what, 8 with 3 teams? Nuts in itself, but he’s on the outside looking in. REminds me of when the Lakers got Dwight Howard and were supposed to dominate but get swept in the first round.

It’s still April, so there’s that. But Pablo has 36 PA (in 22 games), a .333 OBP yet zero BBs (of his 12 hits, 7 were doubles and 2 HRs–thus the 1.000+ OPS, which, you have to admit, reflects his impact to date more accurately than does his .333 BA; but I’m sure that’s a coincidence). And, as discussed, he’s suddenly a threat from both sides of the plate (so far).

Has he found a role perfect for him, at this point in his career? Maybe the bench time, the physical rest time, is good for him. He never seems down, or disinterested or uninvolved. So, maybe coming in cold is just fine, even bracing, for him. I’ll bet Bochy knows. I’d love to hear the conversation later in the season–if Zaidi decides to trade Pablo to a contender. Yeah, yeah. I agree. It’s still April.

    Yikes, they should’ve drafted Bosa’s mom…

    • Flavor said, on April 25, 2019 at 5:42 pm

a terrible pick. Maybe not as bad as Solly Thomas but the Niners will regret this……

It just hit me how much Mahomes resembles a young Howie Mandel…

Ahhh, just saw Hondo Havlicek died. Met him when I was working in Snowmass around 1984. Great player. Saw him a couple times in the 70s.

Sad. Didn’t think he was that old. Than again, we’re all getting old.

    • djloo27 said, on April 25, 2019 at 7:02 pm

At the time of his retirement, he was possibly in the NBA all-time top 20.
      Terrific player…

Tremendous player, dead eye jump shooter and ran all night. The steal off inbounds when Philly had chance to win in last seconds down a point sucked. Greet was throwing it in Havlicek thought they were going to Chet Walker, read the play and that was that. Johnny Most, ugh.

Everyone is a health risk in the NFL these days, Flav. We need a pass rush in the most desperate way. Bosa should be fine.

I wanted QWilliams or even trading down and getting Josh Allen, but the QBs didn’t go like I thought they would so our trade scenario didn’t come to pass.

    • Flavor said, on April 25, 2019 at 7:13 pm

he’s a MAGA loving fuck. You can root for him if you want. This is just another reason to distance myself from the Niners.

      • zumiee said, on April 25, 2019 at 7:47 pm

Richard Sherman being another. I can’t root for either of those two.

      • unca_chuck said, on April 26, 2019 at 7:56 am

So is Will Clark. You say that but you don’t mean it.

Waiting for MacDog to weigh in on Daniel Jones.
Sounds like it’s not going over well here.
Then again, neither did Phil Simms…

    • Macdog said, on April 25, 2019 at 9:34 pm

Not crazy about it, wanted Josh Allen, and it just seems like Gettleman has no idea what the fuck he’s doing.

Yanks traded for a certain outfielder just in time for the series this weekend:

    • Flavor said, on April 26, 2019 at 6:10 am

he’ll be at Momo’s taking shots up until the National Anthem is over.
