.393 And We Just Hit South of 65
That was an absolutely pathetic performance against a team cobbled together mostly of minor leaguers. KNBR caller demanded Bochy hold a team meeting. Ha! Bochy is part of the problem, ya’ll. We have scored 1 run, ONE, in the first inning this season. Either these guys don’t give a shit or he’s not writing up the most optimum line up. Or both. Bochy yappin’ at them in the most medium-impact of tones isn’t gonna change shit.
I’m sure Vlad G Jr. is going to be a superstar but I find the coverage of him hilarious. He’s on the front page of every sports site every day all day. He’s got 2 singles and a double. No bombs. No RBI’s. His 3 strikeouts match his hit total.
Hey, he’d fit right in with SF maybe our *men* should start getting more natty coverage…..
lqtm.
Got a few texts over the weekend from Yankee fan friends who were horrified at how awful the Giants look.
But they always mention the 3 WS titles…
you called this years ago: we will pay for those for the rest of our lives. Those 3 are likely the only 3 we see. And I’m ok with that. If you had told me in ’87 that we get 3 in the next 5 years and then none after that I would have embraced that trade off with open arms.
Totally agree, I truly didn’t believe I would see the Giants win a WS after the 2002.
It’s funny. I waited my whole life to see the Giants finally win the whole thing while seeing the Warriors and
(especially) Niners kick ass and win a ton.
My son (soon to be 22) has seen the Warriors and Giants kick ass, but is dying to see the Niners reach the promised land. I simply remind him it took me 49 years to see the Giants reach nirvana. He may have a while to go, but hopefully not.
I was in LA, so didn’t see or listen to much of that mess.
Changing managers isn’t going to make a difference. There aren’t any big moves to be made, only deck chairs type crap. (Which I’m not opposed to still trying)
I’m with PaulinAsia—All we can do is Ride On and hope we slowly make some progress toward turning things around.
Got another empty bottle
And another empty bed
Ain’t too young to admit it
And I’m not too old to lie
I’m just another empty head
Sorry for your loss, Flav.
Changing managers may not make a difference, Dawg, but how can it hurt? This is how sports (especially baseball) has always done things. It’s the perfect time to audition Bam-Bam…
Personally I’m not getting the “beloved Bochy farewell tour”. Maybe if we were winning but at this point we just watch this guy sit on the bench and make bad decisions. There’s nothing to celebrate, just send him on his way. He’s 2nd greatest skipper ever in this town (after Walsh). That should be enough. Nothing is going to happen the rest of this season to change that.
There was a Giants mgr that got fired really early one season long time ago. Giants lost a game to SanDiego, like 17-15 and within day or two boom new mgr. Gotta run to work, have to look this up.
No one wants to get fired and Bochy is ready to wade through dismal season if he has to. Hard to evaluate whomever would take his place given what he has to work with. interested to see how Z would play hiring new guy though.
Guesses:
Wes Westrum
Bill Rigney
Just checked a list. Pretty sure I’m wrong.
The guy who it appears to be was kind of a hologram manager for us, but I strongly associate with another team…
Wrong again.
I’m done.
Clyde King in 1970? I thought it was Ozark, but not him. By the by, does anyone remember the shit Ozark use to say? Sort of the manager’s Yogi Berra for quotes . . . “”Even Napoleon had his Watergate.”
Loo–pushing Bochy out the door may not hurt us in the standings, but I think it would be a bush league move–and for me, not worth the benefit of giving someone a trial run.
Let the guy bring home the herd one final time, even if that means 65 wins.
They will never fire Boch (nor should they) . . . He has accomplished the most of any Giants manager not named McGraw. Yeah, Bochy has made (for him) quite a few mistakes this season, e.g., leaving starting pitchers in the game too long primarily, but this isn’t like getting rid of a player. Wont happen ever.
Charlie Fox, Willie? I remember listening to that game on the radio. I think it went 17 innings. SD would score in the top of the inning, and we would match it. Till the end.
Blade is right, Chuck. It’s Clyde King.
I was thinking Dave Bristol…
Fox took over, then. He was right in that era.
They ain’t gonna fire Boch, But he may walk. Citing exhaustion. Or exasperation.
it doesn’t have to be him getting shitcanned. Just send him upstairs for an executive job. I’m with Loo, why not find out what BamBam can do
This is no farewell tour anyway. No ceremonies or gifts from other organizations like Jeter, etc got.
I think that crap started with Jabbar…
And Kareem has said that, although he appreciated the respect given to him, he was embarrassed about the whole gift tour thing. I think a couple of gifts really did move him emotionally, though. One team gave him a Harley Davidson which clearly blew his mind and put a big smile on his face. The other was, I think from the Warriors, a sailboat, which he clearly looked pleased with. Naturally Boston under Auerbach was pretty cheapo. They have him a wheelbarrow full of jazz CDs and a small piece of the parquet floor in a frame. Not terrible gifts, but heck, if you’re going to give him jazz albums, give him VINYL, which he would have treasured. Later his house burned down anyway, and he lost his jazz collection anyway. In response, a radio station gave him a bunch of jazz vinyl albums, which was a great gesture. But I digress…..
EXACTLY! This whole sham of a farewell tour boils down to *just having him hanging around.* Shit, it’s lame. Let’s see if BamBam has the goods to manage, isn’t that still a pretty open question?
By the way, from an article found in a Google search: Kareem’s all-time favorite jazz albums:

that’s an awful lot to scroll through, my man.
I’m no jazz man, but it seems rather perfunctory…
Kuip was complaining on the morning show a couple of weeks ago that the Nationals didn’t give Bochy a parting gift or any recognition. They probably figure they did their part by sitting Strasburg for the 2012 playoffs.
Here’s the game WilleD mentioned, the one that got Clyde King fired. According to Wiki, King was fired May 23, so he got the boot sometime after the game that day.

I always liked Ollie Brown on the Giants, even though he really didn’t blossom until he went to San Diego. Amazing that he was able to have a 13 year career.
Who would have owned the team then Stoneham? I guess whomever it was got pissed he blew an 8-0 lead…
Yeah, Stoneham GH. He was going broke. Typical weekend crowd of around 15k. More seagulls in attendance than humans.
Fox must have been the guy to take over then. He managed the 1971 playoff team iirc.
Damn Flav…saw your response from yday finally. Sad sad sad…
I actually was a little disappointed in the grand Game of Thrones episode…of all shows, it turned out a little formulaic for me…basically all the main characters survived…how anyone can fight in hand to hand combat for an hour plus to a hoard of zombies was hard to find “realistic!”
I think John Snow dies again. As do Sercey and Jamie. Tywin doesn’t. Arya does. Bran doesn’t. Although he’s been useless up to now. Other than as a decoy. I mean, he flies with the crows and does nothing until blue darth maul tries to kill Arya.
Ahhh, man. Sorry to hear that, Flav. Catching up on posts and such and just saw that post from yesterday. There’s a time to go, and 12 isn’t anywhere near then. Condolences to the family for their loss.
Dawg, that is one of my favorite AC/DC songs. One of their few slow bluesy numbers.
Gone Shooting is pretty good as well.
Holland to IL with left index finger bruise. Blach called up.
Do you know how it happened Mac? Probably hitting a wall in anger. Especially, after seeing his stats for his last 3 starts (7.31 ERA in 16 IP, 8 BB). Regardless, Blach is a good choice for the call up, as he has a 1.88 ERA in 57.1 IP against the Bums.
Baggs suggested having Blach be the opener tonight just for that reason.
Maybe Smarg is our version of an “opener” and Blach goes in at any sign of trouble. I’m down with that.
Except Bochy has been woefully slow to pull that trigger.
How’s that 6:45 start time working out for you guys?
1. Joe Panik (L) 2B
2. Yangervis Solarte (S) LF
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
8. Gerardo Parra (L) RF
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
perfect. Earlier the better, aye?
At least they got Panda in there. Otherwise,I see another 2 run explosion by this offense.
Casey Mize just threw a no hitter in double A. He was the dude taken before Bart. That’s a pretty big deal for him to snap off a no no this early in his career.
Don’t know if any of you are Lucious fans, but we saw them at the Gundlach Bunschu (Gun Bun?) winery in Sonoma. Very cool show.
Joe Panik has a -0.2 WAR so far this season. Yikes. He looked on track in Spring Training for a good season.
Fleming said Panik’s been unlucky, hitting at-‘em balls. But that doesn’t take into account how Panik is pounding the ball into the shift. He needs to use the whole field. He’s not a launch-angle guy.
The Giants usually play the Dodgers competitively. The rivalry brings it out.
With the occasional blowout loss.
Got drunk last night, drunk the night before, gonna get drunk tonight like I never been drunk before. Hanging in New Orleans, supposed to go see a friend play tonight, but I have the game on the tube and supplies. Giants and Dodgers, I’m in.
I’m hitting the Coke Zero pretty hard tonight. 🙂
“Hard to evaluate whomever would take his (Bochy’s) place, given what he has to work with.” Yeah, the team is definitely resource-challenged, but on the other hand, could be the perfect time to evaluate a new manager. Back in ’87 or ’88, Boston fired John McNamara at the break after a very underwhelming first half and a half dozen games out of 1st, and replaced him with someone who had never managed before (Tollway Joe Morgan, sorry if I’ve said this before) and the team started the 2nd half by winning something like 11 or 12 in a row with the same cast of players. Bochy leaving before the end of the season would definitely be up to him, he’ll never get fired. Sleep walking thru this season to end his career isn’t how I would want it to end, but *quitting* isn’t exactly a fulfilling way to end it either….
You are a very reasonable man…
Bad baserunning. That’s just bad baseball.
You can just use this template as the season goes on: ” Bad ____. That’s just bad ____.” Use accordingly.
Watching this team try to score.

smrdz made Bellinger look pretty bad on that K.
All I’m saying is, how fair would it be to evaluate Bam Bam with a team that isn’t hitting? And will likely look a lot different next year. Still think Z hires his own guy to manage next year too..
The Cards fired mgr last year and went on a tear, and then fell off and missed playoffs once again. And the winning streak mostly came about because they went on offensive tear. It wore off, so did winning regardless of new mgr.
well how else are you going to evaluate him?
K&K go on and on about getting a pitcher a win. It’s outdated talk, but they don’t know it.
Well, these hitters are good at getting their pitchers losses.
Christ. The pressure put on our pitchers by our hitters is astounding.
How the fuck do these guys even look at the pitching staff?
And sometimes taking the starter out after he’s put up zeroes doesn’t always work either.
True that, Mac.
Ooops, there it goes. And I don’t even know who’s pitching, Is that Gott?
Ahhh. Elementary my dear Watson.
Missed the Warrior game yesterday, I’ll watch that.
Ah, the exciting pitching mound repair. Watching people doing yard work.
Still beats doing yard work.
Worthless AB from Longoria. What a stiff.
Parra too.
Giants rally definition – Double sandwiched between a pitching mound repair and 3 outs.
. . . zzzz
Posey has retaken the lead for position starters (from Belt) with his .250 .312 .393 line.
Offense so lame. way worse than i thought. Going to SF Dodger game in June. Augh
Nice use of left-center for Panik.
Huh.Got here just in time. I hope, It’s halftime in the Warrior game.
BB has been awful quiet lately.
Fuck.
Our cleanup batter.
Oooops. That was the pitch to hit.
Hey!!! He hung that one.
When was the last time you were confident during an important at bat with Posey up? At least a year right? Such a bummer:(
Yay Longo!!
That was big! Nice hit Longo!
Longoria did something!!
He took exception to your 8:47, haha.
Ha!
Wow. Didn’t want anything to do with Bellanger.
RIghtly so , .
Jesus.
Where’s that easy button?
Yikes that got dicey.
Is it still torture if the Giants suck?
Augh
Yes, it’s just less fun torture.
YESSS!!!
A win!
Nicely played game!
No Dodger HRs; a key to victory.
Jesus. Watching the Warriors Houston game, and these refs are doing the most haphazard job i’ve ever seen for a playoff game. Random ticky tack fouls followed by obvious misses.
D’Antoni has reason to be pissed, but Jesus, Houston flops on just about every jump shot.
And Hardan has the balls to whine about the officiating. If I’m a ref, I call less shit if he complains.
On that last play, Harden kicks his feet out 2′ to draw the contact with Draymond. The refs were right on a few of those and wrong on a few of those, but Kerr needs to stress that they can’t get in the landing zone. They’ll get nailed with free throws tomorrow I fear.
