Bay Area Loses

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 7, 2019

Dubs lost but my confidence is still in tact. Houston is a good team, this was never going to be easy. And Golden State is on the downside of the dynasty. I’d be thrilled with just another Finals appearance but that seems so far away….

SF in Colorado tonight. Yikes. And there will be rain.

Tell me something hockey fans: every year I hear KNBR and the callers tell me “this is the year for the Sharks.” And every year they lose. Is that just hopeful nonsense being spewed out on the airwaves or are they actually good every year but always fail to close the deal?

    Williamson 3 HRs last night.

    • Flavor said, on May 7, 2019 at 6:55 am

That probably just pissed off Zaidi.

  2. Macdog said, on May 7, 2019 at 7:36 am

Pav says Mac getting called up today.

    • Flavor said, on May 7, 2019 at 7:54 am

one off his bombs last night went 511 feet. That woulda hit The Glove right?

      • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 7:59 am

It would have caromed off the glove back onto the field and hit Mac in the head killing him as he rounded 2nd…

      • Flavor said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:49 am

        Gold

  3. snarkk said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:29 am

What’s the over/under date on the Oaf going onto the IL? June 1 ?…

  4. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:39 am

Good for Williamson going to Sac and forcing the club’s hand. Now all he has to do is keep hitting or its next stop Japan. If you can’t crack an outfield of Gerber, Pillar, Duggar maybe you don’t belong in The Show.

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:28 am

Agree, Dirt. Think he’ll play every day or close to it?
      Probably his last shot…

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:33 am

Sure hope so. If the club can roll Panik (who sucks) out there endlessly they should give him a minimum of 100-150 abs imo.

  5. gianthead said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:47 am

Sharks always fail to close and after tying that game last night I thought it would be their moment to close out…instead I closed out and fell asleep before the OT started. The pressure will be tremendous on Wed while the Avalanche will likely play very loose. Sharks are a much better team but the Sharks always seem to have their backs to the wall every year in crucial close out games.

Watching Dubs-Rockets was like a battle of the titans. Still cannot believe KD missed an oh so wide open 3. I counted at least 9 missed lay-ups at the rim and 4 crucial missed free throws in second half…we could have scored 20 more points…

  6. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:17 am

The Giants are also going to bring up Donovan Solano. He can man 2nd, 3rd & SS, bats right handed, handles pitching from either side about the same and appears to suck slightly less than Panik (who sucks). The club needs some corresponding moves. Solarte gone? Longoria to the DL?

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:29 am

      Or maybe A-WOT goes…

  7. Flavor said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:30 am

Oaf is a story of resiliency. I respect him for doing what he did to get back up here after clearing waivers

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:36 am

Agree. He also spent the previous off season completely rebuilding his swing instead of heading off backpacking and whatnot like Parker did. Williamson is making every effort to breakthrough to the next level. That’s all you can ask.

  8. unca_chuck said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:39 am

The Dubs should win, but man, they got killed on the offensive boards over and over. Losing Cousins is getting bigger and bigger in this series. If they don’t wake up and play D and rebound they will be done.

That would hasten KD’s exit I’d think.

  9. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 10:03 am

I’m surprised and impressed with Duggar. I figured the defense would be there but he’s picked it up at the plate. Now if he can improve BBs versus Ks.

  10. alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 10:10 am

And now both horses with all the controversy (Maxium Security &Country House)are not running in the Preakness, one messed up triple crown year.

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 11:40 am

Believe me, no one wants to go to Pimlico unless they have to.
It is an absolute garbage dump and will probably close down any day…

  11. djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 12:48 pm

    FWIW (Nothing):

Pablo Sandoval became the first player since 1905 to hit a home run, steal a base and pitch a scoreless inning all in the same game…

    • Macdog said, on May 7, 2019 at 1:00 pm

Pablo pitches better than Venditte does with either arm.

  12. sandog said, on May 7, 2019 at 2:16 pm

Gerber sent out. This is an outrage! How many AB’s did the guy get—-10?
    Solarte DFA’d. Venditte sent out.

    • zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 2:41 pm

Gerber was 1 for 15, with 9 Ks.

    • zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 2:52 pm

I think the whole Giants organization will have to get used to that this year; the turnstile that’s going on, as Zaidi tries to figure out what he has in this organization.

  13. alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 2:59 pm

Williams Jerez LHP flamethrower( reliever)is the guy we got in the Chris Stratton ( who sucks) trade.Stratton just got DFA from the Angels after pitching 29 innings of horrific baseball. So you never know how these trades are going to pan out.Maybe we fleeced the Angels)Just hoping Jerez doesn’t suck for us out of the gate.
I’m actually looking forward to seeing a new pitcher up here that throws gas ⛽️
I still expect to see Shaun Anderson up here maybe in June to get a crack in the starting rotation..

  14. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 3:18 pm

Combining Zaidi’s quick trigger roster moves with Bochy’s vet love is a recipe for disaster. Maybe Williamson is in the sweet spot for both of them.

    • alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 3:43 pm

Unless Williamson goes 1-15 with 9K’s.
Let’s hope he’s found Stella’s Groove and hits the tar off the ball.Otherwise the Sacramento bus keeps churning away..

      • zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 3:47 pm

That bus is wearing a groove into the freeway. (grin)

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:09 pm

I doubt it. If he’s sent back down Williamson is exposed to waivers and another club probably picks him up this time. With the club going nowhere they have to give him a decent number of at bats to see if he can produce. Zaidi’s basically said as much.

      • xoot said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:13 pm

Williamson also can become a free agent if he’s sent down again, iirc. 3 HRs in one AAA game probably makes him a lot more marketable than he was in March.

  15. zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 3:52 pm

The movie “Everest” was on the FX network last night. It still kind of blows my mind that, when somebody dies on Everest, the body is often left up there, because it’s so dangerous to pack somebody out from the highest parts of Everest. The bodies become landmarks and sign-posts, basically. And there is a lot of junk on Everest now. Tons of garbage. Old tents, oxygen tanks, litter, human feces, and so forth. This mountain that is a traditional holy place for the people of Nepal has garbage and corpses all over it now.

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:00 pm

Sounds like Brooklyn in the ’70’s…

      • gianthead said, on May 7, 2019 at 5:13 pm

Or DC in the 90s…Baltimore now…

  16. snarkk said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:04 pm

Turnstile roster no surprise. Solarte DFA no surprise. He really stunk it up in Cincy with a critical mass of horrid ABs and basepath moves…

  17. djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:12 pm

    Oaf turns 29 in July.
Trying to think of guys who really took off at that age…

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:14 pm

And I don’t mean a guy like Jeff Kent who became a superstar at 29.
I mean a guy like Mac who had done next to nothing…

      • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:18 pm

        Justin Turner?

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:17 pm

  18. alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:41 pm

Loo I’ll give you 3 guys who’s careers took off after the age of 29…
Pitcher Jamie Moyer who won 233 games of his 267 career wins after the age of 29
Pitcher Dennis Eckerley who’s careers took off as being converted to a closer at 29
DH David Ortiz’s who’s career took off after he was dealt from the Twins to the Sox’s basically starting when he was 29

    • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 4:52 pm

Wasn’t Eck a 20 game winner before he went to the pen?

      • Flavor said, on May 7, 2019 at 5:03 pm

        hell yes he was.

      • djloo27 said, on May 7, 2019 at 5:05 pm

Just checked Ortiz, Kat. Had huge seasons at 27 & 28.
Eck had like 160 wins as a starter before the change over.
Jackie Robinson came up at 28 – Irvin at 30…

    • zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:35 pm

Interesting point by Kuiper: Pillar isn’t used to Coor’s Field, and he’s still figuring it out,

  41. Macdog said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:36 pm

Who didn’t cringe a little watching Mac make a running catch near the wall?

    • zumiee said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:37 pm

      I did!

  42. Bozo said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:49 pm

Is 11-4 still a save situation at Coor’s Field? Asking for a friend.

    • Bozo said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:58 pm

I guess 14-4 would make it just a Hold situation.

      • alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:03 pm

      • Bozo said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:22 pm

        Good game tonight!
Just got back from the fest today, Willie. Trombone Shorty has hit a whole new level and the band kicked some serious dupa. If you get a chance to see em live, I’d strongly suggest it (probably some youtube stuff from this year with the Nevilles) . BTW, Tom Jones also had a very kick ass set and band, just saying… he also sat in with Jon Cleary at Chickie Wah Wahs which I didn’t see but heard it was very cool.
This year we went through Macon Georgia on the way down and just happened on the Otis Redding Foundation downtown there. Just a small store front but very cool.

  43. snarkk said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:51 pm

After all this hitting, the Giants will need some Zoloft when they get back to Oracle Park…

  44. alleykat69 said, on May 7, 2019 at 8:58 pm

    Panik with a cheap RBI.
14-4 should be safe unless Vinditte and Blach pitch!!

  46. snarkk said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:01 pm

    It’s official.
The snarkkettes are flying the coop this fall.
Older one (after her gap year in Spain) is going to a small private liberal arts college in Jersey just west of NYC. Drew University. They have programs in NYC including at the UN and in DC, and abroad in London. Sort of famous for about 10 seconds of time filmed for the Sopranos early episode “College” where Tony takes Meadow on a New England college tour. If you’re a fan, you know that episode is one of the series’ best. Double major Spanish and International Relations. Turned down Denver U, Seattle U, Marist and a few other small colleges back East.

Younger snarkkette going to be a Gaucho at UC Santa Barbara. Double major Biopsychology (neurosicence) and Dance. She made the cut for Dance for top 50 or so from an an audition of around 200 girls. Turned down Ohio State (honors college), Iowa, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Wisconsin, and a handful of others…

My scotch budget has now been crippled…

    • Macdog said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:09 pm

      Welcome to Jersey, older snarkkette!

      • snarkk said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:21 pm

No doubt at some point I’ll be heading to Jersey in the next few years for a visit. I’ll be looking for a Giants set in the Big Apple to coincide …

      • Macdog said, on May 7, 2019 at 9:29 pm

    Cincy at home for 3
    Toronto
