Wither D-Rod?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 10, 2019

I guess we shouldn’t be totally surprised, this guy might have been pitching with luck on his side last season. Still, the difference is startling. He gave up 9 bombs all season in 2018. It’s May 10th and he’s given up 9 bombs so far this year. Every number is worse. This is a no-pressure season so we can be patient I guess. But it is rather unnerving that he’s gotten this….hittable?

Here’s what I want to see in the Dubs game tonight: I want to see either Jordan Bell or Quinn Cook get some run. With his energy and athleticism Bell seems like a natural rotation guy in this series and yet he gets no minutes. Cook, too. We need a shooter out there, Cook can do that.

Would you take the 7.5, Flavor?

  2. Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 6:53 am

No. If anything I’d give it. But today is a no bet just because I could really see either outcome, therefore it’s a dart throw.

  3. Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 6:55 am

I’m leaning towards Dubs getting blown out tonight. But if Steph and Klay get hot, who knows? Still, if Splash Bros gonna splash it’s more likely to happen at Oracle than tonight

  4. willedav said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:24 am

Cook is great idea. He can shoot and be less liability handling the ball and defensively than Livingston, who is just plain done and has been for a while. Class guy is #34 but less minutes the better.
Bell, lol. Athleticism, OK but it’s the NBA so there are a few hundred other athletic guys in the league who have way more skill set than Bell does. He’s just clueless on offense, incapable of creating his own shot and has range of 8 ft. He’s a post in a too small body.

Good news for Giants is Reds never scored more than 4 runs in visit to A’s. Hold them down to that level SF can be OK. this is time to show some things…Reds are last place team, Blue Jays (next in) are close to one and they play 2 other last place teams Orioles and Marlins to end the month.

    Chuck:
Thanks for the Jim Ray Hart thing yesterday. I still the Giants really failed him, although I can’t prove it.
Anyway, Mays talks about Hart’s drinking in the autobiography he did with Lou Sahadi in 1988. Mays made a deal with Hart that if he stayed sober for 6 days a week, he would gift him a bottle of Old Crow every Monday. Mays bought a case of it and Hart collected his bottle every week and had a great year (1965). At the end of the season, Mays gave him $500.00 for “telling the truth and playing every day”…

    • unca_chuck said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:15 am

Wow. Sad story. Didn’t realize his drinking problem started that early. I guess the team figured that since he didn’t want to be honored, they’d just blow him off. Petty bullshit.

    • Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:18 am

that’s an absolutely crazy epic story.

  6. willedav said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:35 am

I like DRod too, stand up kid. After getting blasted by Reds he didn’t make excuses, and said words to effect Roark was pitching in same yard and didn’t make as many mistakes.
Hope coaching staff can fix him if problem is mechanical.
but yes, SPs young and old have been getting hammered lately.

  7. unca_chuck said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:13 am

I think the Warriors are going to take this game. Harden inexplicably disappeared when KD went down. I think Harden has another brain-fart game in crunch time.

Guys like Stephen A have written the Warriors off and I’m sure Kerr is using that as fodder to get these guys a little extra jacked. Flav is right though, it is all about the bench. Bell is a big disappointment so far and Livingston is just a shell of himself. It’s on Cook to provide some bench firepower.

I mean it would be great to be able to keep Iggy on the bench and start Bell in KD’s spot.

  8. unca_chuck said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:16 am

So bummed the game was rained out last night. But i did get some pics this morning of Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. I’ll post them tonight or tomorrow.

  9. Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:20 am

One thing about this series: Paul is a shell of himself. Without his game he just comes across as a whiny, flopping bitch. Hope I didn’t just jinx him into a HOF performance tonight. But seriously, he’s trending into Livingston territory, at least in terms of looking *done*.

  10. sandog said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:33 am

I have no interest in watching, but I hope the Rockets crush them. I still see another Warrior title as inevitable, but I’d be glad to be wrong.

Good to see Austin get a couple of homers and to see our bats come alive at these road ballparks.
I’ll be super disappointed if we don’t have a totally revamped ballpark next year.

Austin seems to be kind of a stoic dude, but I like him. I’m trying to come up with a look alike for him.
Kind of looks like a younger Matt Dillon or maybe the bad ass side of Jim Carrey in Me, Myself, and Irene.

    • Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:58 am

too bad my man, you’re missing some exciting ball

      • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 9:13 am

Over/Under on total 3 point attempts tonight, Flav?
My guess is over whatever you say…

      • Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 9:19 am

What do they usually take? 60? 70? I’ll set the o/u at 80.5 and see if you’ve got the sack to take THAT over! Wahoo! Let’s fucking GO!!!!!!!!

      • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 9:47 am

        I’m in!

      • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 5:24 pm

Is this a “gentlemen’s bet” or what?

  11. snarkk said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:39 am

Bell is athletic. And clueless. That’s why he doesn’t play.
If ever he needs to get a clue, it would be tonight to find some focus…

Ex Giant Aubrey Huff weighing in with his special brand of stupid. Personally I think athletes should be more involved in political life but that’s just me.

    • zumiee said, on May 10, 2019 at 12:06 pm

Huff doesn’t seem to understand the racism that Trump exudes still to this day. Trump spent years trying to get people to believe that Obama wasn’t eligible to be president, and therefore not really president. Trump’s political career has racism as its foundation, and has continued with it from there. Why would athletes of color ever forget that?

  15. xoot said, on May 10, 2019 at 3:22 pm

where the hell’s Pawlie to praise the pun in the headline?

and I bet Huff understands and accepts trump’s racism — just a real man standing up for other real men who want to buy assault rifles to defend themselves against the dark people who want to cut off their balls.

looks good, but it’s rotgut, right? infamous 20s bootlegger Joe Kennedy told each of his four sons that if they avoided alcohol until after they turned 21 he’d give them each $1 million — a lot of money back then. Only Teddy failed.

      • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 4:22 pm

Look for Teddy to make some news this summer – the 50th anniversary of Chappaquiddick.
Other “golden” anniversaries: Moon, Manson, Woodstock, Mets, Altamont…
There was surprisingly little fanfare here for the Jets 50th SB anniversary in January.
        Just kinda came and went…

      • zumiee said, on May 10, 2019 at 4:52 pm

One of the networks showed a new Chappaquiddick documentary the other night. I only caught the last part of it, so I don’t know how well done it was.

      • xoot said, on May 10, 2019 at 4:55 pm

Altamont will be a big deal around here

      • zumiee said, on May 10, 2019 at 4:56 pm

The Joel Selvin book about Altamont is very good and definitive. I was never a fan of his writing for the SF Chronicle, but that book is very good.

  18. gianthead said, on May 10, 2019 at 4:59 pm

Totally agree on the Dubs and made a similar comment…I even think they seriously should have left Draymond at home because any implosion by him tonight in an essentially meaningless game could be enough to get him thrown out in a Game 7….

    • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 5:07 pm

A little trivia to distract you from your pre-game jitters:

Pablo Sandoval, Juan Uribe, Bengie Molina and Willie McCovey all accomplished this rare feat in a Giant uniform.
Do you know what it is?

  24. willedav said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:07 pm

Bell sighting–block on Harden at one end and a dunk at other. D’antoni has to be flipping out. curry is john starks dumb tonite and they are still up 6.

  25. willedav said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:14 pm

I like that Giants LU too. Pillar gets day off, he and Pablo available to PH off bench.

  26. Macdog said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:18 pm

    38 3-point attempts at half — Dubs 18, Rockets 20.

    • Flavor said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:23 pm

I’d bet both lungs and the mortgage this goes under 80.5

      • willedav said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:35 pm

Curry only has 3 of them, so you know that’s gonna change especially if he gets hot.

  27. Macdog said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:23 pm

Re Loo’s trivia: Is it hitting 2 HRs, one a grand slam, in the same inning?

    • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:13 pm

Close enough, Mac. It’s just hitting 2 HRs in an inning.
I must really be shot – I probably saw 3 of them and don’t remember them at all…

  28. snarkk said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:31 pm

That was one of the dumbest halves of ball I’ve seen Curry play. Stoopid ass fouls and passes. He gets doubled, but he doesn’t have to help the Rockets. Cook actually outplayed him…

    • snarkk said, on May 10, 2019 at 7:36 pm

      Yet another dumbass Curry pass…

    • xoot said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:18 pm

the two errors, by Austin and Crawford, were terrible. wtf is wrong with Crawford?

Still, does anyone really care about earned runs now? Tonight’s debacle isn’t as crazy as Bumgarner giving up a grand slam but no ERs, but tonight’s pretty bad. FIP isn’t really much better, far as I can tell.

  35. snarkk said, on May 10, 2019 at 8:03 pm

Gotta Hand it to the Dubs. They are in this game after 3Qs, despite Curry playing like crap and Draymond on bench w 4 fouls. Klay has done Welle. Iggy taking too many Jumpers…

  58. xoot said, on May 10, 2019 at 10:01 pm

D’Antoni lost this one in first half. curry was flat awful dumb fouls bad passes and missing everything from lay ups to float shots to 3s. Meanwhile Bell and Livingston are dunking and Looney is finishing spin moves. rockets should have been up by 10. Then once Curry’s shots start going in, game plan goes out the f-ing window.
