#saladdays
When you talk about salad days, you’re talking about weekends like this one. I’m flying up to Portland tonight, Preakness tomorrow and then right after it me and BirdDog storm The Rose Garden—at least that’s what it was called when I was going to Lewis & Clark, not sure what they call it now.
I’ll finish cappin’ the Preakness by tomorrow am but right now I’m leaning towards Bourbon War as my top pick.
Giants in Arizona tonight. Smarge in the thin air, this might not work out too good….
Pablo!
Panda.
Dubs, Dubs.
Dray decided he wanted to win this one tonight.
What a performance…
It’s between Will Smith & Panda for Giants All Star rep…
Panda Power!!
Dug it out and lined it out!!
That was impressive. If nothing else Pablo should be able to carve out nice career off bench as PH. Harry Spillman, Manny Mota, Jose Morales type…who was the guy I can’t recall who had career record?
Teams pretty much can’t carry pinch hitters, 3rd string catchers, late inning defensive replacements or mop up men anymore…
A catcher. Smoky Burgess?
OSF
Giants on road are a different team when it comes of bombs and scoring runs.
Gates Brown was a pretty good PHer way back when…
Think it was Lenny Harris most PH hits??
YEAH, that’s him Kat. thx man!
Your welcome
Giants have hit 42 bombs this year…28 on the road. Team OPS 100 points higher, .700/.600
Dang I can see this guy, slashing line drive LH who played forever.
Yes Gates Brown was awesome.
Make that 43/29. No doubt shot off the bat from Belt.
Belt adding on.
Me and Twin loved this awesome PH:
Nothing like a refreshing pool splash HR!!
Belted!!
He was a mean picker as well . . .
Nice win.
Nice win tonight, They actually smoked some balls, good pitching, good needed win.
Smoking balls instead of poles for a change…
Lol 😂 só true
Great story on Gates Brown:

I actually remember that about Gates Brown and the 2 hot dogs stuffed in his jersey, and how the mustard and dogs blew up on him when he had to slide, both dugouts were busting a gut, except Tiger manager Mayo Smith who fined him later..
Pablo Sandoval= Gates Brown could easily see him doing that stunt..
As a young boy, I was mostly an American league fan (sprinkled with some love for the Phils ala my Dad’s team) and having been born in Detroit (but only there my first few years, so, no real memories) I always liked the Tigers, and loved those mid to late ’60s teams. Brown was great. I remember thinking, why don’t they play him more often? Now and then they would, giving Willie Horton a break and putting Brown out in LF. Also remember then understanding why they didn’t play him more often. But a great hitter and quite the character.. and yeah, Kat, somewhat Pablo-esque..
That id a craaaaaaaazy story, DJ. He actually stayed at Shawshank. From prison to the ball field.
Very cool.
Nice to see Clint again!
In 1966 Smoky Burgess, a backup catcher hit 21 for 67 for .313. Probably a little early for most of you guys.
Saw him live and in person at Yankee Stadium as White Sox catcher in the back end of a 1965 DH.
I remember thinking he looked about 70…
Nice little player back in the Stone Age I liked was Detroit Tiger second basemen Dick McAullife (sp) scrappy hitter with amazing power, had like 11 years of double figure HR’s playing with some good players,Kaline,Freehan,Horton,Northrup,Stanley, Cash,McClain, Lolich ,and of course the coolest dude of all, one of my favorites Gates Brown PH machine, those Detroit teams back in the 60’s-70s were solid, like the Baltimore Orioles both my favorite teams in AL back then..
Ha, great cards Loo. Lynch was on the Reds teams early ’60s right…after Pirates?
Burgess given name iirc was “Forrest” hence nickname.
A HS coach I knew loved Billy Tubbs high scoring teams at Oklahoma. Tubbs had a player named Smokey McCovery, who fell asleep once watching vids with the team, and Tubbs said maybe they should call him Sleepy McCovery instead.
Wow.
