A Boy Who is Now a Man
Almost nine years ago I wrote a thread about this little guy:
If you don’t remember it, take a moment to read it here:
https://oneflapdown77.com/2010/10/19/great-cody-ross-story/
Yesterday that kid pitched in the Oregon high school state championships. He took the ball in the 5th, the game went 13. He pitched 8 2/3 of relief. Unfortunately, his team lost. But I was told he pitched like a man. And today’s thread is a salute to you, Clayton. What a way to end your high school career. Yesterday will always be one of the great memories of your life.
Clayton’s 2019 stats:
6 starts, 2 relief appearances, 48 innings pitched. 1.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 4 wins, 1 save, 1 loss (state finals), 0 HR’s allowed in his entire career as a pitcher at any level……
I didn’t remember that post from 9 years ago. Great story. Both posts tell a great story.
Great job Clayton and like Zum said, two great stories. And as y’all might expect from me, extra points goes out to the rodeo clown, Cody Ross..
Now there’s a Clayton to root for! Yes, two great stories.
A phenomenal feel good story in a feel shit year.
Thank you, Flavor and congratulations to Clayton and your pal.
Cody belongs in the SF organization somewhere…
Great circle of life story, BF.
I hope the kid is getting a college ball gig somewhere…
As for the Giants, maybe they should have Clayton start this one today.
Samardzxxx pitching at Camden Yards is like throwing gasoline on a fire…
Great story Craig! Thanks for repost of the original too.
I didn’t remember the story. I remember that my feeling about Cody Ross was that he was just another temp solution to our lousy outfield. How could we know he would step up in such a big way? How could I know that 9 years later I’d still be connected to this group this way,. and the blog (If I even knew the word yet) would have been so important to us all?
How could we know that I likely showed that article to my son ( cause it was cool he got a ball right?) who in Oct 2010 was an 11 year old kid. In our lives maybe not so much feels different, but my little boy is a man himself. 20 year old who just finished his sophomore year in college far away in Chicago. A young man who while so far away herniated a disc lifting weights, fought for a year to rehab, had surgery anyway when the pain wouldn’t go away, and now after working his ass off for another year played in his 1st college lacrosse game. Light years away from the boy who looked not a lot different then Clayton! Thanks again Craig for keeping this thing going!
some story
Wow, playing college sports isn’t easy, especially after an injury like that. Incredible achievement.
Nice job BF finding a ancient article like that and with a kid(Clayton) getting a ball from Cody makes it even better! Reminds of that other little Giants kid who dreamed of some day playing for the orange&black by the name of Brandon Crawford, his dream came true maybe Clayton’s will as well..
Brilliant, as they say in Ireland and the U.K. Brilliant, Clayton. And Magnus, too. Thank you.
Very cool. Nice to read through the old thread, posts from Twin Ted Wisco DelMar yada yada. good stuff.
Longo comes through, smrdz shutting O’s down.
the comments in that thread are underrated, nice notice.
Craw double Fwar bombs. 2 words–park factor.
Yes I realize other teams hitters walk into Snoracle and knock ball out of yard, more so in daytime. But Giants only hit like this on the road.
i didn’t see it but his 2nd bomb was reported 430 feet (Miller on the radio said that)
10/19/10: 7 innings 2 hits from Cain. Save Wilson as SF Beat Hamels and Philly 3-0 to win pivotal game 3 after a split in Philly. Big rbi hit from Mr C Ross himself.
Good Times!!!
You can tell from these posts that we didn’t really believe quite yet. Collective posts in 12 & 14 would have been much more animated after a big game 3 win closing in on WS!!
Well, blow me down !
Samardzxxx with a solid job at homer central.
SF going to take a series on the road! Nice to see.
The Giants would lose just as many if Camden Yards were their home park, but it would be a lot more interesting…
Giants have to be shopping Will Smith right now. He’s money.
Deal this guy before he gets hurt, and get some prospects…
Two game winning streak.
Craw crushed the second one, sure. Likely has more to do with crummy pitching staff of O’s.
But–Belt has 8 bombs/6 on road. longo now has 7/6 on road. Those have come in 30 road games. If they hit like that at home, pace would be 30 in a season. which would have people, uh fired up.
Even Sando has hit 5 of his 7 on the road in part time duty.
Giants are now 14-16 on road for season before 3 coming up at Mets.
7th inning of A’s/Astros game has lasted over a half hour.
Pitch clock please.
What MORON Giants executive signed off on the McCutcheon Trade. The Giants would trade Bumgarner straight up right now for Crick and Brian Reynolds. He would be our future Center fielder and #3 hitter. Is it the minor league coaches who can’t see talent that is right in front of their face. WTF. This will go down as the worst trade since Cepeda to St Louis. Reynolds will be the NL Rookie of the Year, Not Guerrero or Tatis. This makes me sick.I hope Farhan cleans house next year with all new coaches, scouts and Managers throughout the entire major and minor league system. The Giants have not drafted an All Star outfielder since Chili Davis. Check out Reynolds and Crick’s stats with Pittsberg. It will make you want to throw up.
I hear ya.
Sabean/Evans rolled the dice on one more run last year for the playoffs with the core players, and adding a few seasoned vets. Everybody underwhelmed, and it turned into a lost season, and a terrible trade.
The Giants have had no clue about outfield talent for 30 years. It has been an inexplicable, organizational black hole. The housecleaning throughout the organization is coming. Meanwhile, ZMan needs to really click on the first few of these draft picks this week. I want to see some damn position players with pop and mad athleticism…
During the golden age, few if any of the “prospects” the Giants traded for vets ever amounted to much.
Duvall? Big deal.
In the dark ages anything that can go wrong will…
Great story, Craig, about both Clayton and Cody. Team could use more like Cody came through in his short time as a Giant. Also great to read the comments from way back. Twin berating the PC winners, I remember those posts…
“berating the PC winners” lmao. Man, those were the days.
He was clearly upset at FH who back on the Splash was his “blog wife”…
I’ll come up with something for Tuesday’s game so one of you can win the Amazon card. And I promise not to berate you after you win. lqtm
Yeah I won one of Twins PC’s , I think it was for total runs scored by the Giants against Texas in the W/S, I e-nailed him and said I didn’t need it, I think he was pissed off some,(probably thinking what a dickwad not excepting his generosity) so I said just give it to Blade who was runner up and then he settled down some, thinking that was a nice gesture on my part you fuckwad 😂
always think of Stix whenever A’s bring in “Yuse More of Petit” like last night.
Never saw Curry so invisible…
whole game is ugly. Toronto should be blasting them without all the FTs. and they might yet do that if their starters can stay on the floor. Warriors bench guys non existent.
“FH who back on the Splash was his “blog wife”…”
Yeah, I never got that whole situation. And I doubt that FH knew he was married. I don’t think any of us, at that time, knew he was married.
he was tortured by that lie. He emailed me before he came clean on the blog, it was really eating him up. One day when I am completely bored I’ll try to find the post he *came out*
Van Vleet making a difference, putting tough shots in. Always dug guys from Wichita st.
Story on the epic high school game:
https://expo.oregonlive.com/sports/g66l-2019/06/ace303b1b34276/jesuit-outlasts-central-catholic-in-13inning-thriller-to-lock-up-6a-baseball-crown.html
NIce find! And I know Clayton appreciates the kind words you all gave today. Thanks for that. He’s a great kid.
Raps forget to score for 4 minutes, ouch. More ugly b-ball. Coach needs to get more movement of ball and players. 1 on 1 ain’t getting it done.
Toronto’s game plan for the 2nd half was to quit.
Innovative!
warriors continue to get 2 ft shots off ball and player movement as Cousins scores first hoop of 4th Q. Bogut got couple too in 3rd.
We are getting beat up this game.
Injury-wise I mean.
That was hysterical reading those comments. Twinnie in fine fiery fettle. Good shit.
Excellent story, Flav. That is just so cool the kid has made his way so well. My niece’s son (don’t know what they call that) plays ball for Davis (Sophomore catcher) and is playing in the Alaska summer league in a few days. Very cool. It would be a gas to go up there to see them play.
As a Kings fan, Cousins’ reach-in fouls always drives me nuts.
Lowry had like 3 of those.
Warriors’ turnovers driving me nuts.
Gutsy grueling victory. They survived injuries, and a bunch of turnovers, to get the huge win.
agreed. And iggy AGAIN, ice in his veins. One of the most clutch players in Bay Area history.
Unreal game. They should have closed it out with 2:30 left.
I love Van Gundy giving Iggy shit for leaving 3.5 seconds on the shot clock. The idiot sideline interviewer did as well.
Cook’s 3’s off the bench were critical. Cousins was pretty tough as well.
If Thompson is out, we definitely need KD.
yeah, WTF was VG talking about there? Wide open shot, take it. They’d already burned a lot of time off the clock, what he want them to do? Burn it down to nothing and get up some prayer?
I don’t know how Livingston caught that pass from Curry at the end. That was like the Raiders’ famous “sea of hands” catch against the Dolphins.
I totally remember that game. Watched it on TV, live.
That’s when the NFL was special.
Now, phhttttttt…..
All the shit I’ve been giving Livingston, he saved the game by getting that shitty pass by Steph. Solid gold play there to step in front of Leonard.
Steph and Iggy were all over him at the end. Saved his ass.
Loved that game. Clarence Davis had the worst hands on the Raiders.
Cousins’ biggest game for the Warriors so far.
Dubs.
Seriously, heart of a champion.
Klay out for half the final quarter, they still pull it out. Great D.
Boogie played a big role. Happy for that dude, he came through clutch
Clint Frazier fanatics should have a look at last night’s defensive highlights…
Draft day!
