Sunday Wins

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 3, 2019

I get that most of the world hates the Warriors, that comes with the territory when you’ve been dominating for as long as they have dominated. But they really should be getting more credit for their resiliency. Cousins injured, KD injured, last night Thompson and Loon go down. Steph has had his fingers taped for 3 weeks. And then Iggy with the dagger 3.

The Giants, meanwhile, proved they aren’t the worst team in the league. While I knew they’d finish last in the NL West it’s nice to know there is at least someone below us.

Draft today. We pick 10. Just get the best player. We need guys at literally every position except catcher…..

this is great. He calls Drake by his given name, Aubry

    • djloo27 said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:07 am

      And Aubrey was his name;
A not so very ordinary man or name.
      But who’s to blame?

      • alleykat69 said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:38 am

        He Huffed &Puffed
        But only 1 season (2010)
        He showed his stuff!

  2. alleykat69 said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:20 am

I would be excited if the Giants were able to get Hunter Bishop Outfielder who can play all 3 OF positions, has power 22bombs this year, speed,Defense solid! (local kid from San Carlos, yeah my hometown)played college ball at ASU, would be awesome to think we could FINALLY draft a potential stud for the OF..
If he doesn’t fall to us then the other choice should be Bryson Stott SS UNLV a solid future replacement for Craw, great contact hitter, slick glove, and is versatile enough to play 3rd and outfield if needed.
These 2 should be right up Zmans list for analytics and versatility going forward!Need to draft position players 1st over pitching imo..

  3. willedav said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:30 am

mm the whole Reynolds story is one to watch. He played high A ball at San Jose 2017, hit .300 but only 10 bombs in 490 ABs. Even for Pirates AA club 2018 he hit .300 but only 7 HRs in 330 ABs. He also hit .188 in brief time in AZ fall league.
So what he is doing now for pirates is way different, in its small sample size and deserves a hmmnn

      A Duvall Cocktail???

  4. Bozo said, on June 3, 2019 at 10:48 am

    Over the years we haven’t had many picks between 1 and 10. Although, we did have a run for 3 years in a row with a top 10 pick that went pretty well. Since 2006 our picks in the top 10 have been;
    2006 – Timmy at number 10,
    2007 Bum at number 10,
    2008 Buster at number 5,
2009 Zack Wheeler at number 6, and
2018 Joey Bart at number 2.

    • xoot said, on June 3, 2019 at 11:18 am

GM Quinn had a few top ten picks in the 90s, after the new owners took over. All total busts. No wonder Sabean got promoted in 97.

      • Bozo said, on June 3, 2019 at 2:42 pm

Yeah Xoot, Calvin Murray at 7 (Jeter was 6 that year) and Soderstrom at 6 didn’t really pan out.

My favorite though, was Matt White # 7 in the 96 draft. Because SF didn’t get him signed in 10 days, Boras had him declared a FA and he signed with Tampa Bay for $10 mil. Do to back problems he never pitched in the Majors, he was also selected for the 2000 Olympic team but he suffered an injury on the plane so was sent home.
By the way, my memory isn’t that good, I had to look all these up but it was kind of fun revisiting these old picks.

      • xoot said, on June 3, 2019 at 3:15 pm

I’d like to know who decided to draft Joey Bart last year. Evans was on his way out already, I’ll bet.

      • Bozo said, on June 3, 2019 at 7:14 pm

My understanding is that after handing the reins over to Evans in 2015, Sabean was asked to be more hands on again last year. Instead of Evans reporting directly to Baer, he was back reporting to Sabean. So I’m not sure who made the call on Bart.
Hopefully as a #2 pick he works out, although I still wish they would move him to another position while he’s in the low minors.

Here’s a piece of past trivia..
    2019 MLB Draft
With all the hoopla and network interviews all ready to shine and speak to the top draft picks, their was only one player that showed up as the network would pan in on him on occasion as player after player names were called except him.Every big league team passed on him until finally the Lós Angeles Angels took him with their 2nd pick #25 overall and it was Mike Trout and the Angels struck gold!! Giants pick that year Zach Wheeler #6

    • djloo27 said, on June 3, 2019 at 11:54 am

Took Wheeler forever to find himself.
The Beltran deal was 8 years ago…

  6. djloo27 said, on June 3, 2019 at 11:57 am

So the Giants are in town for their annual visit.
I can’t even muster the enthusiasm to drag myself to Citifield.
I think it’s my age more than their awfulness…

    • sandog said, on June 3, 2019 at 12:08 pm

C’mon Loo—grab that 7 train and make it happen.
      Bum v Syndergaard again tomorrow.
      Beede Wednesday, then Anderson/Wheeler Thursday.
      I won’t miss a pitch and I’m dead serious.

      • Macdog said, on June 3, 2019 at 12:36 pm

        I’m likely going Thursday.

  7. unca_chuck said, on June 3, 2019 at 12:13 pm

If only to see one of Bummie’s last starts as a Giant, you should go, Loo.

  8. unca_chuck said, on June 3, 2019 at 12:15 pm

2 things that blow me away.

AT&T Park is 20 years old.

Our first World Series was 9.5 years ago.

  9. dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 2:05 pm

I don’t have any strong opinions on particular players in the draft. Considering the position shifting through the minors and the time it takes to get to the highest level, teams should always take the best player available imo.

Flavor, great thread yesterday. Looks like a little bit of a Lincecum stride in the delivery there. Is he declaring for the MLB draft or college bound?

    • birddogpdx said, on June 3, 2019 at 2:28 pm

Hi Dirt…good eye. Clayton is a huge Giants fan and he grew up watching Lincecum and he’s not a big guy (like Linceum) so he tries to get all he can out of that small frame. He’s hoping to play in college and we’ve been getting some phone calls after Saturday so we’ll see what happens.

      • gianthead said, on June 3, 2019 at 3:29 pm

Best of luck…so hard to play at that next level so he will have earned it.

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 4:57 pm

Congratulations on your son’s graduation. Best of luck to him for the future wherever it leads.

Flappers, this is Flavor’s 3D buddy Chris. My son is Clayton from yesterday’s post “A Boy is Now a Man” https://oneflapdown77.com/2019/06/02/a-boy-who-is-now-a-man/. Finishing your high school career in 13 inning game for the State Championship resulting in a loss made for an emotional day both for Clayton and for me but wanted the Flappers know that Clayton read through every one of your comments last night and he really appreciated your words of encouragement. He’s still trying to figure out if he’ll be able play at the next level, I hope he does but if Saturday was the end for him it will be okay and the good vibes from FlapNation took some of the sting out of the loss. Big Thanks to the whole flap community from this Baseball Dad. Go Giants!

Braves won the NL East last year, how the hell did they get the #9 pick, one spot ahead of the Giants?

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:09 pm

Something to do with not being able to sign draftees last year?

    • djloo27 said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:15 pm

It was part of the Willie Montanez/Darrell Evans trade…

  12. dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:09 pm

Giants on the clock. Is Flavor Nation excited?

  13. dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:12 pm

Bishop from AZ State – an outfielder!

  14. Macdog said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:13 pm

Giants take Hunter Bishop, OF from Arizona State. He bats lefty.

Kat nails the pick from my 8:20 post!
Hunter Bishop could finally be are best outfielder selection since I can’t even believe we have to go this far back Chili Davis🌶lm fired 🔥up with this pick! And yeah move the fences in and get rid of the bullpens for safety issues..

  19. zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 5:59 pm

Our best outfield pick since Bryan Reynolds. 🙂

  20. zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 6:59 pm

Fresno St. vs. Stanford in the college baseball World Series tonight. Uh oh, a Central Valley team vs. a high-falutin’ Bay Area team.

  21. zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 7:04 pm

Big injury challenges for the Warriors. Looney has some kind of cartilage fracture, and Thompson strained his hamstring. In addition to the injuries the Warriors already had.

  22. zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 7:06 pm

If Durant can come back, that would be huge.

  23. zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 7:15 pm

Gearrin is the opener for Seattle tonight. He’s attempting to bore the Astros into submission with his ridiculously slow pace.

    • zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 7:25 pm

And gives up 3 ERs in the first inning.

  24. unca_chuck said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:03 pm

Word is KD will be in for game 4. Thompson? Still not clear. Cousins played a hell of a game yesterday. The hope is he has enough time to recover by Wednesday. Looney is solid, but I think Bogus can give him some rest. And we have Damian Jones who will likely get time.

    • Flavor said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Looney is done for the series. And if KD can swoop in off a single practice after all this time off, well, more power to him but I think that’s a fantasy. Hope Klay is ok and that Boogie can keep doing that shit he did last game

  25. sandog said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:41 pm

The pitcher Fresno State just removed is from Woodland.
And their infielder Dempsey is the son of a college friend of mine.
Go Bulldogs! (…and I don’t say that often)

    • willedav said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:22 pm

      sacrilege!

  26. snarkk said, on June 3, 2019 at 8:54 pm

May I ask whyinhell the Giants select a LEFT fucking handed hitting outfielder?
Unless this guy is Barry Bonds reincarnate, or they plan on bringing in the right center wall 25 feet, then WTF is this bullshit?…

    • Flavor said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:08 pm

the walls are coming in. Guaranteed.

    • Macdog said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:14 pm

The Giants took another lefty hitter, Louisville 1B Logan Wyatt, in the 2nd round.

  27. snarkk said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:05 pm

Friggin’ Dubs have so many guys hurt, Kerr may have to suit up…

    • willedav said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:25 pm

As long Looney being out doesn’t mean 12 minutes again for Bell I think he can figure what to do with who he has. Toronto didn’t shoot very well despite being at home. Key would be keeping them off Offensive boards. There was one late possession they got 4 shots.

  28. dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:12 pm

Bishop supposedly has + power to all fields – not that it would matter. I tend to agree that this is another indication that the walls are coming in.

Will the NBA finals be finished before the 4th of July?
My goodness, someone could blow an achilles and make it back by the end of the series.
What do they play—one game a week?
The NBA is about one rung above pro wrestling in my book…..

    • zumiee said, on June 3, 2019 at 9:56 pm

That high quality rant earns this coveted meme:

  31. unca_chuck said, on June 4, 2019 at 8:01 am

Right. Somewhere I read that Cousins was out for 45 days.

First round to the start of the finals! Unreal.
