1000
Congrats to Bochy for nailing down win number 1000 as an SF Giant manager. I had to re-write this thread because I had a brain fart on it being for his career. Pre-coffee move on my part.
This is a great ending to last night’s natty softball championships. But watch it carefully, where is the love for the girl with the great slide to avoid the tag? lol, the entire team ran past her to get to the girl who drove her in. I get that she should get mobbed but the runner got absolutely zero props here.
I still think he gets to 2000 wins…but hoping the Giants are keeping their eye on this bay area kid who hopefully goes to Arizona State and back in the draft in the near future for us to pluck…I did nor realize Sr. was from Santa Cruz either…he would be potentially right in the middle of a rebuilt Gigantes team manning short and maybe lead off capable…

Any winner in yday’s contest??? Carry over? I will go Belt and 32 if we are counting all hits and Ks for the game…
Saw the Loo article on Frazier and my answer about wanting him is best answered by another question: Have you seen our outfield?
This is the perfect time then to strike a deal. We might be able to get Frazier and Andujar for Bum!!! A guy clearly not comfortable in NY could very well bloom in SF, especially if he has a quirky personality. Exhibit one: Hunter Pence. Exhibit two (though a pitcher): Tim Lincecum.
I also think getting Pillar to the Phillies should be on a front burner and playing the Yankees off the Phillies in the battle for Bum should me leveraged for max return.
I just realized my brain fart in the main thread
Yes, 1,000 wins with the Giants, not counting his Padres wins. Hey, we all have brain farts. 🙂
I did not want to directly point that out😎
yes that’s a good move. Used to do that one close play at plate in softball days. Angle your body to the outside, go in head first and stick the left hand out to catch corner of the plate. C doesn’t have much to try and tag plus you are at lowest possible point/farthest away.
The 1000 wins is just as Giants manager. He’s got damn near 2000 total.
Anybody on here want to admit they were dead wrong about Melancon???? The dude has been solid for us and pretty much everybody on here was screaming for the Giants to eat his contract.
No, he has not been the lights out closer we paid for, but he has been worth keeping around for sure.
he’s worth keeping only because he’s contributed unexpectedly but he’s not someone you can trade because of the deal. Maybe if we eat a lot of it. Either way, NOBODY on the current roster should be untouchable or kept around for any reason whatsoever.
Ha good one. Only comp rival for vitriol here was Span.
I just think it’s all about his health. He said even when he was with Pirates, he’d pitch have some discomfort it would go away and he could pitch effectively again. with Giants he could not do that, pain limited how often/how effective he could be. He stuck it out had the surgery and is still going.
Maybe it’s the money (there goes our $60 mil chump closer) that blew fans off, but I don’t get that. Giants even now in another sucky season can announce 30 thou PAID every game because that $$$ is in the bank; they aren’t Pirates or Royals or some small market team. Look at A’s, 97 W team playing 3 home games vs. Houston 2017 WS champs and now perennial division winners—and they draw 14 thou to a game.
Only caught winning rally, and on radio Flems was going off on those fans who are upset with Z revolving door policy. He said adding Austin Yaz Anderson Beede and recall of DRod have made the Giants a better team, and went on for few minutes about this while Mets changed pitchers. Also didn’t think Callaway was doing that bad a job and thought players had his back for not going viral on them publicly and call them out. hmmnn
I’m 100% all in on the revolving door policy.
Hold on now, how can Flem give credit to Farhan for guys already on our team or in our system?
I’d agree about Austin, his hitting off the bench has helped, although I think the guy’s best position would be a DH. Other Yaidi picks that I’d agree with, Yaz and Pillar have added spark and Vogt has been a solid backup. Adding Gott to the pen has been good, and Bergen and Vincent have had their moments. So I’ll give Zaidi credit there, except some of those guys have been replacements for his revolving door fuck ups.
So with that in mind, I think Flem should also bring up Joe, Reed, Kratz, Holland, Pomeranz, Venditte, Parra, Solarte, Solano and Gerber.
Contest today? Looks like a lot of rain in NY but let’s do it anyway. Pick the first Giant to bomb. And then the tie breaker is hits given up and strikeouts by Beede and Vargas. I’ll say Longoria and 14.
So hits and Ks just for starters? Belt 19…
Crawford and 18.
Pretty cool that Bochy gets his 1000th as SF manager in the same place he made his MLB debut.
Off topic, but what is the reason for the NBA & NHL dragging out the playoffs so long?
What does it accomplish for them?
They get the supposed best TV spots. Cousins had 45 days off between his injury and his return.
Seems to me it’s unavoidable given it’s four rounds best-of-7 for both leagues.
Pillar and 19
Yes that was a great slide by the Bruins gal.She left only a small window like Willied mentioned for the catcher to make a play.Longo take notes you make that headfirst slide using only your left hand to clip the corner of the plate you probably would of been safe last night..
B/R shows Bochy getting a well deserved Beer 🍺 soaking from the players last night in the clubhouse after a quick speech from Bam Bam!!
Longo still has 3.6 years to impress you, Kat…
Yeah that’s for sure.
I might be in the minority but I think Longo is playing good ball overall, yeah the power and average like most of the Giants could be better, but his glove work is só much better this year then last.Like most Giants under the Booby/Sabes regime come in hurt the 1st season, seemed that way with Longo last year, this year he is driving the ball better..
It’s about time someone other than me said that Crawford is clearly overweight.
Thank you, Keith Hernandez…
All the Jheri Curl weighs one down.
Belt 22
Since so many people are impressed with round numbers here’s a little trivia.
What 2 players retired with 399 homers?
We could badly use both of them today…
Willie Montanez anc Candy Maldonado.
I like that answer Chuck!
I’ll go Austin and 13 for the contest and Ralph Kiner and Orlando Cepeda for the 399.
Hint: One of them played some as a Giant. The other played his whole career with one AL team…
Rocky Colavito?
Solid but incorrect guesses, Dog.
Be serious, Chuck – and come to NY some time…
Hah!! I’ll get there someday, DJ. The beers are on me . . .
All I’m saying about Melancon is that it would have been stupid to just eat his contract and let him walk as many on here were clamoring for.
Is it ever a good move to do that?
We’re the Red Sox stupid with Sandoval?
Yes and no.
I couldn’t agree more!
First 10 rounds of ZMan’s first draft— heavy on position players. Awesome…
Yeah I’m digging Zman’s approach Snarkk!
Only took 1 pitcher, shit every pick under Booby/Sabes was a pitcher cause they were clueless on hitting talent except for Bart who was such a high pick any flapper with a brain 🧠 could of made..
I also liked that he stocked up on need players for the future, drafting 4 SS cause he will need a replacement For Crawford eventually so get these prospects experience and one of the four hopefully becomes a gem 💎
Assuming that they are all healthy, is there any doubt that Posey, Longoria, Belt, Crawford and the forgotten Cueto are all on the opening day roster next season and probably in the starting lineup?
Perhaps Z can make Smardz & Melon disappear somehow entering their final contract years in 2020…
Little doubt.. maybe Frazier in there as well:)
No doubt at all Loo, unless Giants bigwigs up stairs give Zman permission to make some moves(cut/trade) and you can add Panik that everyone hates but me into the starting LU, to good of a glove with no real replacement for him..
I don’t hate Panik – just disappointed that he never became the 15/75/.290 guy that I’d hoped…
Al Kaline& Darrel Evans??
Kaline’s a winner!
Evans is a superb guess, Kat…
Mike Ivie?
No…Kingman?
Orlando Cepeda?
Dale Murphy??
Longo 20.
Sucks to end your career with 399 HR’s !!!
Damm I want that other player!!
Joe Carter?
Duke Snider?
Eric Davis?
Reggie Smith?
Big Kat…Andres Gallaraga??
WINNER!!!
Great guesses!
Keep wracking those brains!
Trivia…What pitcher gave up 399 career Homers..
Maddux?
Weather reports here are so vague. Amazing that with all the technology, the forecasting here is worse than ever. They really don’t know shit. Could be several deluges or nothing significant.
I guess a postponement would mean a single admission twinbill tomorrow…
Just checked and Joe Carter had 396, Snider had 407, and Smith had 314, so those were pretty good guesses. I had a feeling Davis would be low—and he was with 282.
Kiner 369 and Colavito 364 were right there too.
….and Montanez is easily my favorite short term SF Giant of all time.
Better than Al Oliver?
Boog Powell?
I thought he had more . . .
Vanlaunchingpad? Hammaker?
I loved Al Oliver’s hat. He had the biggest bend in the brim.
And the cap under the helmet…
Jim Rice?
Freddy Lynn?
Lynn had like 23 homers every year…
Loo—this guy is money. This is his morning report, he updates it in a couple of hours. If Roth says we’re playing, I trust him.
https://rotogrinders.com/weather/mlb
For my fellow LBSU alumns, the Giants picked up a Dirtbag, Nick Avila, in the 26th round. Pitcher with a high ERA but decent K to BB in his college career.
Had some shit to do sorry
No on Maddux and the other guesses
Give a clue played everywhere including the Giants..
Garcia 17
Panik has proven to be not physically durable. The Giants whole infield is physically beaten down. They’re not super-old, but they’re not super-athletic, either.
from Roth:
SFG @ NYM – Models are a bit split here, but the general idea is “a chance for a pop-up shower or storm causing a delay”. My most trusted high-res model says that we play dry, and radar looks great, but there’s still a shot of a pop-up or two forming an causing trouble. I would play all positions in all formats with the exception of maybe SP in cash (a little dicey, but still probably ok). Winds blowing out to left at 10mph.
Your Warrior pre-game show:
1. Joe Panik (L) 2B
2. Donovan Solano (R) SS
3. Tyler Austin (R) LF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Aramis Garcia (R) C
8. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
9. Tyler Beede (R) P
In light of the women’s softball, remember this?
Looks like less than 5,000 in the park for the first pitch…
There are no words to describe the stupidity of the Longoria deal.
I may have to check the thread from the day it happened.
I hope I didn’t support it…
I hear ya. I’m cringing to think what I might have said.
Mets trading for Cano and that ridiculous contract may turn out to be just as dumb.
Just did a quick scan and no one was very thrilled about it.
Dec 21, 2017.
No, the ball’s not juiced…
Game 3 can’t start soon enough.
Beede’s got Sac-town in his future. Just in time for the 100 degree heat.
Flemming tryin hard to no avail to build up a sucking Beede.
Still think this guy should be in the HOF Dale Murphy who had 398 HR’s and was dynamite for the Braves in the 80’s
Good place for the oafer to get another crack.A shitty team Seattle sucks maybe more then us, no pressure, no bullpens on field, can DH, should get some decent amount of AB’s and hopefully for him produce some..
That was great what Lopez Just said.
A 37.7 velocity speed can still get you a basehit in the show as McNeil just proved…
Beede with 4 more walks. He sucks so bad.
Thank God Bochy got his drinking in last night🍻🍻🥃🥂🍷🍺
Didn’t the Mets give him a special bottle of bourbon?
Curry might score 60 tonight.
Haven’t heard of the “box & one” since Georgetown used it to stifle Chris Mullin.
Carnesecca had no answers…
Complete-game shutout by Vargas. Man, this team stinks.
complete game shutout by one of the worst pitchers in the NL. Fucking lowpoint of the season if you ask me.
vargas with a cg shutout, now that sucks.
How much (if any) of Bochy’s staff is expected back next year?
Maybe the pitching coach Curt Young, the rest especially those 2 headed idiot hitting coaches can find work at Rikers carrying a stick since they don’t know what’s a bat is used for..
gotta be 0. The entire staff gonna be eggheads.
I sense a theme in these last few posts.
Told buddy of mine if GS is going to be down 3 starters vs. Toronto, I think it’s time they leveled the playing field…literally. If they’re going down tonite, take a couple Raptors with you.
Dubs down 2 All Stars and Looney, are still in this game. Great grit…
Most of “Bochy’s guys” were already jettisoned last year. That’s still a head-scratcher for me: with Bruce’s retirement clearly in sight, why did they do that at that time? They all should be gone when Bochy walks away. Clean the house.
re: box and one.
couple things you can do. First vs. 2/2 zone D by the other 4, spread out the floor with 1 point 1 high post mid FT line and guy on each wing, FT line extended. Try and get ball to middle and then look to wing shooters. You are working 4 vs. their 3 so someone should be open for shot or drive. Then take the player being boxed to the block and have one of the wings down screen for him to pop out for open J, corner or wing.
You can also set up the screen with conventional 3 out 2 in look vs. the 2/2 zone. The boxed player starts on block and gets cross screen from other player set on opposite block and you can even make it a stagger screen by the player on wing who sets up at FT extended. With 3 guys on top you have advantage vs. 2 on top of zone.
If your 4 are better than their 4 you should be able to do OK even without buy being boxed. Otherwise you have to set screens to get him open.
Sounds something like what the Knicks did in Game 5 of ’70 Finals after Willis had gone down early in the game. I think it was Bradley’s idea…
you can also have the guy on top with the ball pass to wing and cut through to ball side corner. If bottom guy comes out block is wide open for high post to cut ballside. We used to work on this stuff since most teams in Asian league played 2-3 zone. So with 8 kids at practice, you set up 4 vs. 4 defense in box type zone and give them the looks to move ball to open players in gaps.
The David Bell hire had something to do with that,
Warriors have missed at least 5 lay-ups…
OK, how many games with the M’s before MTO blasts a dinger?…
Or busts a finger…
Lowry going for Cook’s knees, I’m going after him.
Couple other things they miss without Thompson on floor. Number one he is superior defender. No accident Raps guards lowry green van vleet all having good nights. Guys guarding them Livingston Curry Cook are not very good defensively at all.
Second, he has such energy at offensive end he forces the other guy guarding to run his ass off and fight through screens and make them work to defend him. This also would have negative affect on guys like Green or Lowry on offense. And Thompson has lit both of them up.
Toronto is hitting their 3s.
That’s right, guys. We’re up in this series and you are running out of excuses. And to that clown who suggested GS should level the playing field by injuring Raptor players I’d suggest you sack up and take your lumps like a man. The Dubs are merely mortal again and they’ll be forgotten in five years while real dynasties like the Bulls, Celtics, and Lakers will be remembered forever.
Buy a dog… name it Life… then you’ll have one.
I might try that!
That is amusing. A fan of a team that has never won a championship talking smack. Wow, they beat a team tonight down so much talent injured that it wouldn’t reach the 8th seed in the West….
Their D Green played better than ours. Way to many sprint down and wild passes. Driving me crazy.
My plan is to just enjoy the games. 2nd team ever to be in 5 finals in a row. The WARRIORS!
Unless KD or KT comes back and PLAYS WELL this series is over. Not the 1st team in finals or WS history to be screwed by a badly timed injury or 3. Cousins bad play is a mystery. I was hoping he would come through. Cost himself a bunch of money tonight IMO
