SF vs LA

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 17, 2019

Tonight the question is, can a rivalry propel a team to performing something supernatural or beyond their normal human means? A more pressing question: does this rivalry still even exist? History is vast but so is an ocean. You want it?

This is for all the Flappers who like to jizz about WAR, pretend they know what it means and how to use it: Evan Longoria is the Giants WAR leader this year at 1.4. Evan Fucking Longoria…..

In the discussion on MLBTR re: grading Encarnacion trade by Yanks, bum’s name comes up couple times. There are wide variations over the return, whether Frazier is too much or not. Bloggers over there often propose a deal and then ask the question, “who would say no” …In this case, Giants or Yanks? Or is Frazier even available?

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:00 am

      I’m sure Frazier is available.
He’s an absolute butcher in the OF and hasn’t been conducting himself the way the corporate Yankees would like. He was sent down yesterday to make room for Encarnacion and his response was to unfollow the Yankees on Twitter…

      • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:10 am

OJ is following the Bills on twitter. Would be funny if they blocked him.

      • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:31 am

Would be hilarious and ironic since they once were great at blocking FOR him…

  3. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 7:58 am

Frazier is 24 yrs old, bats RH, makes half a mil, and already has 11 bombs. He’s hitting better on the road than at home so it’s not just Yankee Stadium park factor. In other words, perfect. I can’t see Yanks doing it.

I don’t see Yanks giving up young cost controlled OF for a 3 month rental, given health problems they’ve had. And while Bum certainly has post season pedigree, um that was back in 2014. Competitor sure, but not the same guy.

    • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:09 am

Frazier got bounced down to Scranton this weekend. He’s not happy about it. Probably could use a change of scenery.

      • willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:32 am

sure but I think Yanks look at him as insurance for any other issues with Stanton/Judge. Seems like an overpay for Bum to me..

      • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:33 am

I once got a hand job in Scranton…

  4. wilcojoe said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:28 am

Francesca says the Yanks will give up anyone for Bum. Which really means they will give up nothing.

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:34 am

I’m absolutely positive Bum won’t be a Yankee. Which really means he’ll be in the Bronx by the weekend…

  5. wilcojoe said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:34 am

The Astros may be willing to part with Kyle Tucker whose stock dropped significantly, after his abysmal MLB showing last year. Especially now that Yordan Alvarez is up and looks to be a beast. I haven’t checked Tucker’s AAA stats, but the guy was a Top 10 prospect in all of baseball this time last year.

  6. djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:02 am

“does this rivalry still even exist?”

I would say only for Bumgarner, who seems to be the only Giant with a rivalry personality. Shouldn’t make that much of a difference that the Giants are awful. Bum will nail Muncy on the right hip…

  7. Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:12 am

Honestly, I’d be cool with the Bum’s redass attitude if it would result in a fistfight now and again. I’m tired of all the shit talk. Fight or STFU. Most of these guys aren’t doing shit. Muncy took a few slow steps and watched the bomb. What’s wrong with that?

  8. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:44 am

Sometimes it only takes one guy to keep a rivalry going and Bum’s that guy with his heated exchanges with Puig&now Muncy,I for one will miss that competitive fire 🔥 no other Giant brings to the table.I still can’t stand seeing any guy/ gal wearing a Dodger cap are clothes up in the bay area I just give them the snake eye..

  9. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:50 am

I know exactly why Longoria’s WAR is what it is. He ranks very high in the metric Defensive Runs Saved.
However we feel about those two metrics, WAR and DRS, they are two metrics being used in the baseball industry these days. GMs value them, whether we do or not.

    • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:00 am

forgetting their positions, who would you rather have in the Giants line up everyday, Longo (the WAR leader) or Adam Jones?

      • unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:10 am

        Hah!

      • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:25 am

If we saw Jones play outfield everyday that would be interesting. The metrics say he’s not a good outfielder anymore.

      • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:40 am

that’s not really an answer. I’ll assume you’d prefer Jones over our WAR leader.

      • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:59 am

Maybe. But if plays outfield like Span, no thanks.

      • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 11:37 am

He’ll probably be an all star this year, but whatever.

      • Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 12:16 pm

actually, that’s stupid, if they only got one it would be Marte.

  10. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:53 am

    Frazier&Voit for Bum& Panik?

  11. Flavor said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:00 am

that tee shirt is actually pretty funny.

    • wilcojoe said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:05 am

I agree. If I am the Dodgers, I have the entire team wearing it during BP tonight. Too bad the game isn’t in SF. That would make it even better.

  12. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:14 am

The thing about the rivalry is that the Dogs think they are such hot shit, while we have 3 in 5 in our recent past. There are still enough Giants to remember that, and Bummie is the flag-bearer. The Dodgers? Not so much. They don’t look at our recent success as having any bearing on their current ‘greatness’.

The shirt just confirms how stupid baseball players are. Especially Muncy.

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:30 am

There was a guy in my high school named Muncy.
I’m sure any dunce can figure out his nickname…

  13. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 1:41 pm

Frazier as I said couple of weeks ago is on his way out of NY…time to pounce. Sure Farhan is trying to leverage Twins, Phills and Braves to max return…Frazier and Andujar for Bum, Smith and whatever vet they want or dont want and we got a deal…

  14. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 1:44 pm

I’m getting excited about Bum getting traded. I want to see him pitching in meaningful games again, and not fizzling away the latter years of his career on a team that’s rebuilding. Bum in the playoffs would be fun.

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:15 pm

Agreed. It’s in his career and financial interest to get traded…

  15. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 1:46 pm

Frazier is not staying in NY regardless. He has ripped the team publicly and his demotion is a sign his Yank days are over. Can Farhan get her done??? Dont see the Yanks adding the Human DH in Voit into this deal…

  16. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 1:49 pm

    Now this is funny:

    • gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Hull looks like a burned out wrestler…

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 3:07 pm

He needs to check himself in somewhere and soon…

      • alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 3:44 pm

He could get a part in a sequel in”One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest now”
Wow 2 many pucks hit his face in the past, he’s totally losing it..

  17. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 4:18 pm

No batter has ever gone after Bum. Bum has invited them out many times.

  18. djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 4:19 pm

Muncy should walk up to this song starting tonight:

  19. djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 4:36 pm

    1. Joe Panik (L) 2B
    2. Steven Duggar (L) CF
    3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
    4. Brandon Belt (L) LF
    5. Stephen Vogt (L) C
    6. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
    7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
    8. Kevin Pillar (R) RF
    9. Tyler Beede (R) P

  20. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 6:27 pm

  21. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 7:22 pm

While Duggar up, Miller says Duggar has an OBP of .285 (or whatever he said in the .280s). Then, he says, dryly: “The Giants outfielders, in general, have not been very productive.”…

  22. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 7:23 pm

I’ll be optimistic for the guy. I hope he has a breakthrough.
But, Beede, by all rights, should get pounded tonight…

  23. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 7:30 pm

Bellinger goes down looking, nicely done.

  24. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 7:56 pm

Muncy goes yard and gets half of Beede’s lead back.
This guy played in Oakland, so he knows the HR he hit was nowhere near the Pacific Ocean.

    • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:03 pm

He’s yet another Dodger that is easy to dislike.

  25. Macdog said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:02 pm

I thought that Muncy HR might reach the ocean.

  26. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:14 pm

Kuip got the batter and the LFer wrong on that one.

  27. djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:17 pm

No problem with Muncy’s post-bomb behavior.
    A-Rod jizzing over Belt…

  28. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:18 pm

Saw that one coming. 0-2 to base hit from the fucking pitcher. Now he’ll steal a bag.

  29. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:26 pm

Beede has to pitch through this shit. Random strike zone tonight.

Walking Meaty Beaty to get to Bellanger is not a good idea.

    • Macdog said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:28 pm

That’s twice he’s done that, and gotten away with it both times.

  30. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:29 pm

Panik and Belt need to see this.

  31. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Bad frame job by Vogt on that 2-2 pitch to Muncy. The catcher needs to hold it there. He took it right out of the strike zone.

  32. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:45 pm

Damn. That curve is pretty snappy tonight.

  33. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:51 pm

    Beede through 4.
Loo bunt vs. shift very doable. work a lot better than hitting ball in the air. Panik has 3 HRs all season.

    • willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:52 pm

Or like Belt, 2 Ks swinging at the off speed stuff in the dirt from Maeda.

  34. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 8:59 pm

Beede dealing with a crap balls and strikes ump. He needs to get through the bottom of this inning, just concentrate through it…

  35. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:00 pm

All these leadoff guys are gonna bite Beede in the ass at some point.

  36. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:06 pm

    Shit. Pablo got spiked.

  37. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:06 pm

he’s out. Muncy STFU tremendous play by Craw and Sando. hope he’s OK

  38. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:08 pm

You know it’s to Giants credit they haven’t buzzed Muncy yet. But if he winds up f-ing Sandoval, all bets are off.

    • unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:19 pm

That was completely not Muncy’s fault.

  39. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:19 pm

Nice! I’ll take a giftie now and then.

  40. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:19 pm

Thank you Taylor for a bonehead play and a gift run!

  41. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:20 pm

    Make it hurt Longo.

  42. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:23 pm

Jesus, Longo and Crawfish are fan city.

  43. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:29 pm

Muncy is just a dumb hick, probably doesn’t know the difference between a ocean are a lake..

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:32 pm

Or a river and an estuary…

  44. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:33 pm

    Beede with a nice game.

  45. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:34 pm

Nice work by Beede, hope Boch doesn’t pull the hook to soon and just let him pitch..

    • gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:35 pm

I say get him the hell out and take the 3-1 lead…

      • gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:38 pm

Boch making the right decision…97 pitches is plenty for an untested rookie…

  46. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:34 pm

Nice job Beede…good to back on the left coast watching Giants baseball at a normal hour for about 36 hours in Irvine near the land of the San Dog…headed back to the Wrong Coast in the morn.

  47. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:38 pm

So of course he pulls him..

  48. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:43 pm

Terrible strike 3rd call on Duggar low and outside..

  49. mrsprtdude said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:47 pm

beede should stay in the rotation all year. Even if he is bad at lest Z will know one way or another.

  50. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:56 pm

Big effort by Beede to do well in LA. ERA now below 7, headed in right direction.
That effort has to be a confidence boost. Granted, the home plate ump suxxx tonight, but Beede has got to figure out how to issue fewer walks…

  51. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:56 pm

MLB Trade Rumors lost their Top 50 tradable players and Will Smith is #1 and Bum #2…they add Watson, Dyson, Melancon, Belt and Pillar to the list. All 7 need to go…

    • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:59 pm

      Totally agree.

    • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:01 pm

That’s a tough sell to a lot of the fans, though.

      • unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:13 pm

The fans are basically idiots for the most part. And I’m one of them.

Craw fanning for his life. High heat and he whiffs. I’m amazed he actually got a double earlier.

      • willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:21 pm

yes because the org owes fans a reason to show up. they are already announcing and collecting on the paid attendance that is still 25 thou plus. The money is in the bank but it wont be much longer because you can’t expect fans to come watch

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:13 pm

Interesting; Panda is 15 on that list…

      • unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:14 pm

Once his hand heals. He’d be a good DH somewhere not called Boston.

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:20 pm

Melancon is ranked 37 on the trade list; Belt is at 40? Head scratcher there…

  52. zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 9:58 pm

A fastball right down the middle and it’s kind of amazing how often the Giants just foul it off.

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:06 pm

Giants hitters are not very good.
      At hitting…

    • djloo27 said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:07 pm

      Kent rarely missed those…

  53. mrsprtdude said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:00 pm

I comment on that all the time. makes my melancholy for the old days when our guys could hit like major league hitters.

  54. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:16 pm

Really like to see Gyros hold on, so Beede can get a W.
Smith back with only one days’ rest…

  55. willedav said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:22 pm

Done! Smith wraps it up and Boch is all smiles.

  56. mrsprtdude said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:22 pm

    Yes!

  57. Macdog said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:22 pm

Hey Dodgers, get the ball out of Vogt’s glove.

  58. unca_chuck said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:22 pm

    Ballgame!!

  59. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:22 pm

    Wow.
    Smith dominated the 9th.
ZMan has got to get this guy traded for some top prospect talent, before he gets hurt, or starts losing it…

  60. alleykat69 said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:23 pm

Yeah Baby!! 1st career win and against the dogpile sweet!!

    • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:33 pm

  61. Macdog said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:24 pm

Congrats to Beede, first career win!

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:40 pm

Yep, finally broke through w 6 good frames.
      Onward, upward…

  62. gianthead said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:27 pm

Smith has done nasty stuff….his valor should be sky high and probably 4-5 contenders likely offering top dollar (top 20 prospect) and probably much more adding in Bum…Frazier and Andujar and then a bat like Puig or Ozuna (preferably) and foundation offensively may be established and hopefully a .500 team next year and wild card capable the year after with Bart and Ramos both in the big leagues…

    • snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 11:08 pm

#1 target in MLB Trade Rumors; Smith is a top closer, he gets both righties and lefties out.
This guy is gold for a team headed for the playoffs, and must command top prospects in trade accordingly…

  63. snarkk said, on June 17, 2019 at 10:33 pm

Could have used that Smith dominating 9th inning against the Cubs in game 4 of the NLDS in 2016. He pitched to 2 batters then out of the parade of 5 Pen guys that cratered that game…

    • zumiee said, on June 17, 2019 at 11:22 pm

What I remember from that inning was Law starting the inning and having terrible control. Strickland gave up a hit to Baez on an 0-2 pitch. Lopez walked Rizzo.

  64. zumiee said, on June 18, 2019 at 12:56 am

  65. djloo27 said, on June 18, 2019 at 6:15 am

Not as bad as I thought:

Tampa is paying various chunks of Longoria’s contract and after this season, the Giants are only on the hook for $ 37,500,000. I thought it was much worse than that…

    • djloo27 said, on June 18, 2019 at 6:18 am

      I’m wrong again.
Giants on the hook for $ 49,500,000.
It is as bad as I thought…

      • djloo27 said, on June 18, 2019 at 6:25 am

        And he’ll be fuckin’ 34 in October…
