A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Re-Load with D-Load?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 1, 2019

While I’m not certain how this is all going to fit together once Klay comes back, I was excited to see the Warriors pull the trigger on something bold. THIS is how you stay on top, not re-signing all your old guys over and over again (Sabean and Evans never learned this).

Meanwhile, even after a someone decent month of play, the Giants remain the 2nd worst team in the NL. I’m not sure how it’s possible that the Mets have a better record than we do but that’s our reality. Time to hit the road down in San Diego. I see there is another rookie sharpening his knives, waiting to take us out to the Padre Woodshed.

The Mets, Reds and Pirates are in our sights.

Actually using D-Load as a bridge to Klay coming back and then trading him for something makes a lot of sense. Bob Myers is always 5 steps ahead of everyone else. I’m so stoked KD has moved on. We dodged a bullet there.

  3. alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:08 am

Yes it makes sense with Klay’s status next year in question that they bring in Russell to team up with Steph, and when Klay gets back they move Russell.
Jacob doesn’t live in the past, he’s always moving forward, unlike the Giants, that’s what makes him a great owner, reload not rebuild is his theory..

    • gianthead said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:19 am

Complete dodge…I think there is a 20% change he never regains his all-star/hall of fame game

    • Flavor said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:20 am

The Giants SHOULD have been rebuilding they just didn’t know how o do it. They tried re-loading, with the wrong guys (longo, melatonin, etc)

    • gianthead said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:22 am

You mean trade Curry…😁…that is the kind of out of the box thinking I bring the Flap every day!!! Take that Twin. 🤯😇

      • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 12:02 pm

Just because it’s out of the box doesn’t necessarily mean it’s any good. 🙂

  4. gianthead said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:32 am

One think can anyone explain? If the Dubs signed all their free agents including KD and Klay to max deals, they would have had $175 mill payroll…why did they then need to dump Iggy’s salary to afford D’Angelo??? #nbacapmakesnosense.

  5. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 11:58 am

They may need to dump Cook, Bell, and Livingston, let alone Looney and Boogie.

The cap is somewhere around $132 mill. We are at $135 mill according to Spotrac, and this puts our penalty at $8 mill.

40 mill over would be something like a $100 million fine.

    • gianthead said, on July 1, 2019 at 6:04 pm

But Chuck, why does anyone care what penalty they paid. They supposedly were ready to pay $200 mill in luxury tax to keep KD and Klay so why care about $40 mill?

      • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 6:53 pm

100 million. And they aren’t going to hold on to D’Lo.

I’m not seeing why everyone is jizzing on these Nets moves. Fucking Kyrie’s knees are already going and Durant isn’t even playing this year. And Jordan? Eh, whatever to him. I could EASILY see this not working for them. And forget next season, they might sneak in as the 8 seed, maybe

    • Macdog said, on July 1, 2019 at 3:05 pm

I’m a Nets fan, and not sure whether this is going to work out. A lot of risk here for sure. But I’m also willing to trust a GM/coach tandem that’s turned the Nets around from the worst situation in all of sports three years ago into a franchise that can now attract two of the NBA’s top players. Plus, these are only 4-year deals, not the franchise-killing 8- or 10-year contracts the big stars get in MLB.

    I know right 27 years old??RIP Tyler
Tyler Skaggs joins a long list of 27 year olds.,
What’s with the Angels and tragic accidents over the years?

It’s a lost season, can’t Bochy have some fun and bat Slater after Austin?

      • djloo27 said, on July 1, 2019 at 6:11 pm

They could bat out of order and no one would notice…

      • xoot said, on July 1, 2019 at 7:52 pm

Posey is the compostible straw too soggy to stir the drink

  11. djloo27 said, on July 1, 2019 at 6:12 pm

Game is on MLB Network, I guess depending where you are…

  12. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 6:21 pm

Suicide? 27 year olds don’t just die.

    • Bozo said, on July 1, 2019 at 7:19 pm

“27 year olds don’t just die” – said Jim Morrison, Jimi, Janis, Cobain, Winehouse, Brian Jones and Robert Johnson.

      • xoot said, on July 1, 2019 at 7:30 pm

        and Basquiat

      • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 7:52 pm

Comparing a fairly fit ball player to Jim Morrison and the rest is a stretch. Being a junkie isn’t really a long-term life strategy. Not saying they all were, but really, the rock and roll life is not littered with fitness geeks.

        Keith Richards excepted.

We should pound this weasel tonight.

    Triple Slater!

  16. willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:16 pm

hey move the runner over and bingo run driven in.
Not sure I’d be that high on flat earth irving; knees aren’t the issue either.
Lot of warrior fans seem OK with Durant leaving but wow what a dynamic scorer he was here. Worth seeing once he regains his health which won’t be easy.
Pads must not have scouting report on Slater either.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:33 pm

KD had 2 chances to commit to the Warriors. Since he didn’t, he’s hurt that his teammates and the fans didn’t commit to him?

      • willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:39 pm

I don’t care who is butthurt. Guy can really play and I’ll miss watching him. He’s just one of the best pure scorers I’ve ever seen.

  17. willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:20 pm

We watched Giants whack DBax Friday night and they did it again Sunday. Any NL West team not the Dodgers isn’t challenging for the division, at least this season.

  18. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:36 pm

Nice!! We are pounding the weasel.

    • willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 8:40 pm

yes. Posey had 3 hits night we saw him and 3 yesterday. Now doubles in 2 more 6-0.
And smrdz is shutting these guys out, lol.

Yep. The dreaded 6 run cushion. He;s only at 62 pitches.

    Slater tater!

  26. willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:25 pm

Must have worked on something in Sac. He hit 1 bomb in 200 ABs last year, and had 4 in 316 in the last 2 partial seasons with Giants. good for him, hella start.
Really like to see giants finish ahead of someone this year. Padres would be nice fit.

  27. willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:46 pm

Even Solano rakes one into the corner for a 2b tonite

    • willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:48 pm

5 doubles 1 triple and 2 bombs among 12 hits.

  28. zumiee said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:51 pm

The Giants have slowly turned into a very platoony team. That’s in keeping with the general trend in baseball.

  29. xoot said, on July 1, 2019 at 9:54 pm

The best scholarly article I’ve seen on the new juiced baseballs was authored by a retired astrophysicist who has taken up baseball writing as an avocation. She took pre and post juicing baseballs apart and compared the components. She definitively identified one change. She’s also an accomplished knitter. Wrapping the yarns around an ancient knitter’s measuring tool (a cylindrical ruler) she determined that the new yarn is slightly thinner than the old. She theorized that the thinner yarn reduces drag and slightly tightens the halves of hide.

During one of the recent espn Giants broadcasts Pierzynzki stated flatly that there have been two changes to the baseball, since mid-2016: the lacing yarn has been (his word) “improved”; and the method for drying the leather has changed, resulting in a slightly smoother outer surface. AJ, obviously reading from a prepared statement, said those two changes reduce air drag. I think the astrophysicist’s theory about tighter hide deserves some consideration too.

Boom! The Giants have scored 32 runs in the last 4 games. I think that equals all of April.

  31. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:09 pm

A bit shocked to see Smargle in there.

  32. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:10 pm

Then again he usually throws 100 in 5 so he’s just managing his pitch count better.

    Nevermind.

    • zumiee said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:24 pm

A rare really good game from Smarj.

  33. Macdog said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:26 pm

23 runs in two games, when’s the last time that happened?

  34. willedav said, on July 1, 2019 at 10:33 pm

10-10 in all these games vs. NL West. 14-13 in June, 1-0 July.

I’ve been here at UCSB since yesterday accompanying the younger snarkkette on orientation and Registration. Parent orientation, too. They made sure there was a session on how to pay the bills online. Beautiful here. The Food in the Dining commons is way better than my dorm experience in the dark ages. Organics, made to order deli sandwiches, Asian, Italian, vegan, massive salad bar. The Pacific is out my kid‘s dorm window 200 yards away. I think I want to go back to college here. If I can drop about 40 years. But, these kids are serious business. Calculus 34A, Stats, microbiology, Physics, econ, brain science. Even the hot girls are really smart. I’m going to have to walk over to a pub in Isla Vista to get readjusted…
