All Eyes On Bum
It seems we should have been aiming high all along. We’ve been sitting around here feeling sorry for ourselves and fucking off. That was the wrong course to take. Snagging the 2nd wildcard spot appears to be a mindset. Therefore….#AHOFO.
Really interested to see how Bum pitches today. The last thing we need is for him to come out and get blasted. At this point teams aren’t evaluating him on single games but they do need to know he’s healthy before they pay up. Whatever that payment will be.
I posted this on the other thread earlier this morning. This is just outrageous and I’m thinking about buying a bible later today. Where do you get one of those?
Why buy a bible when you can liberate one from a hotel room? Hallelujah!
ah key word “combined” no hitter. Still definitely weird.
Saw something on cbs site re: Rockets/Thunder trade and looked it up. To acquire Chris Paul in the first place from Clips, Rockets gave them Lou Williams Patrick Beverly and Montrezl Harrell plus a draft pick that would eventually be dealt to Hawks- who used it to take Omari Spellman, now a Warrior.
Interesting story on nbc bay area site that lists potential call ups should Z start making deals. Pitching, both SP and pen, plus Shaw and couple other hitters.
The Bible can be read for free online. Here, for example. (Well, you asked.) 🙂
https://www.biblica.com/bible/
I don’t want to read it, just thought it might help to have it around.
Would Rocky Raccoon recognize this version?
AS long as its Gideon’s
there have been 301 no hitters thrown, 13 of those were combined no hitters. Last night’s was obviously the first one where an opener was used.
Speaking of the Bible, in the 2016 campaign, Trump wanted to get people to believe he was a Bible reader, so he said his favorite book in the Bible is 2 Corinthians, and he pronounced it “Two Corinthians,” which is pretty darned funny. Anybody that has some familiarity with the Bible knows that it’s pronounced “Second Corinthians.”
Like, 2 Timothy is pronounced “Second Timothy,” etc.
Later it was reported that Trump chewed out one of his aids for not giving him the correct pronunciation of the book.
Trump in a nutshell.
Random useless GH trivia…the Pres was first married by Norman Vincent Peale, the author of The Power of Positive Thinking, whose granddaughter is married to a cousin of my wife….
An actual good piece of writing from Hank Schulman:
“It’s amazing how quickly things have turned for the Giants. In the span of 10 games the notion that they could contend in 2019 has gone from delusional to silly to “dang, let’s take a look at this.”
I saw this online, another reminder of what an amazing season 2014 was. Bumgarner hit two grandslams that season, and this happened:
“5 years ago today!!
Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner became the first major league battery to hit grand slams in the same game on Sunday 07.13.14. They did so in consecutive innings”
Per BR:
Giants Playoff Odds: 0.3% to make postseason, <0.1% to win World Series
These were both listed at ZERO until about a week or so ago.
They shouldn't be allowed to upgrade a team's chances after rating them at zero for months.
Zero means zero. When you're dead, you're dead…
At least the 0.3% is accurate now. That’s how hard it would be to leapfrog 8 teams
They should never put ZERO as long as there is a mathematical chance…
agreed.
Praise the Lord!!! (Tongue in Christian cheek)
Magic Number 32!!! But the idea we are going to be in a playoff chase, especially winning last night and having a chance to take this first post-all star break series against another playoff contender is going to fuel the idiocy that we are a playoff caliber team. Poppycock!!
There is no way in hell Z buys into chasing something that has a 0.3% of happening. NO WAY. And if he did he should be fired.
I’m not saying you’re not correct, but the vast majority of the fan-base is caught up in Giants-mania right now, for the first time in years really, and understandably so. I especially see it on Facebook.
I think you are totally right…the come hither Giant fans of recent note are the idiots…
Fans have nothing to lose by being positive, even if it’s just for show.
Big Z has to shut that stuff out and make realistic evaluations…
This surge by the Giants does change things for Zaidi. I’m sure Baer is chatting with him. Zaidi has to ride this surge and see what happens with it. A very interesting couple of weeks ahead. Any trades might happen at the end of July.
0.3 is 0.3. You think Z cares more about what a bunch of housewives on Facebook think over actual math? Come on, Zumiee
Good point, but he has to read the room at least a little bit. It’s only human.
To paraphrase another great Twin insight from several years ago:
Facebook is a lot less cool since grandma got her own page…
it’s even less cool than that since they facilitated Russian interference in our election……
0.3, Is that our team WAR?
:
“fans have nothing to lose by being positive..”
Ok, that’s a fair point. But why can’t they be positive about the moves Z will make to make the team contenders in the years to come? Why not be positive about the future?
Al Avila just got an extension in Detroit. He’s a terrible GM. If I was a Tigers fan i would be devastated by this move. If dopey Sabean and Evans were still running the show I’d be nothing but negative about our future…..
But we have a guy in charge who is smart, who understands how the game is now played, who understands the actual WORTH of these guys and who, hopefully, isn’t going to get smoke screened by this 4.5 out nonsense.
I am 100% positive about our future with Z at the helm. But fuck this season.
Because that’s not how the FB crowd rolls.
We got 3 weeks. And we got Cristhian Adames, reject IF from the Cubbies.
6 years ago today.
As we know, Timmy was a shell by this time.
I learned at a young age that no-hitters were flukes when this guy with the great last name pitched one:
Ok, so there’s an extra ‘o’ . . .
I agree that Zaidi isn’t going to put a lot into such a low wild card probability. That said, I don’t think it is unforeseeable that Bumgarner isn’t moved – is he eligible for a qualifying offer tying draft picks to him?
As much as I like to slam Booby and whatnot he made some good moves with international signings last year as well as previous draft choices. Luciano is making some noise and H Ramos is creating some buzz. I’m headed to a SJ Giants game tomorrow for Ramos bobble head night and hope to see something positive.
Don’t forget: All games free today & tomorrow on MLB.TV and MLB Extra Innings…
1. Brandon Belt (L) LF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Joe Panik (L) 2B
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
If ZMan doesn’t trade Bum, Smith and Dyson for prospects, he is an idiot. Period. Don’t want a compensatory pick. That’s worth near nothing, and the mystery person drafted is 3-4 years away from helping, if at all.
One of the announcers last night said something to the effect that the Giants would be looking to acquire ML ready (or almost ML ready) players because their lower minor leagues are well stocked with promising kids still some years away. Does that make any sense?
I heard that here on KNBR over a week ago. Maybe that’s the company line being put out there. Supposedly the low minors AREin reasonably good shape, somebody here with better knowledge about that than I can advise. But, that’s a crapshoot — those kids are 3 years away from any real MLB time, if at all. Anything can happen. Beede and Bickford were supposed to be great, now look. I agree, get some good AA talent that’s ready to break out, or a year away, plus low minor talent that looks good, just to stock the system. Will Smith should be able to fetch a damn good AA or even AAA outfield prospect plus a couple of lower minors position players with solid upside if things break right. Get some damn athletic, speedy, power-hitting bodies into the minors that look like they can play ball. No more Paniks and Duggars…
Although it probably isn’t, it makes me sad to think this could be Bum’s last game as a Giant…
Cashner to Bosox…
Still can’t believe Bum isn’t 30 yet.
That’s for Lorenzo Cain, boss…
whoa Posey embarrasses Lo Cain. Wasn’t even a good throw Longo scoops it tags him out.
OK let’s take a look at those 8 teams Giants have to get past.
Padres whom Giants have beaten 5 times in a row 2 here 3 spankings down there
AZ whom we watched Giants beat and then 2 days later Pillar destroyed all by himself
Cards (now 1 under .500) again lost series to SF
Pirates losing again today and Reds who suck
Brewers–40-44 since opening season 7-1 and who SF lit up last night SPs and pen
Fading Fast Fillies
Sorry, none of those teams are that much better than Giants as presently constructed. Not to me anyway.
The Padres took 3 of 4 from the Dodgers. Go figure.
Complete baloney allowing Selig in the booth just to promote his book and tell some lies. And Verducci lobbying softball questions wasn’t Verducci’s finest moment.
It’s pure agony…
I meant lobbing softballs, not lobbying. 🙂
Although Selig was lobbying for his lie-packed book.
And it WAS agony for us viewers.
Tough play but Belt was clueless on that shot.
Did make a heckuva throw, though.
another muted broadcast. Selig is flat ridiculous.
Bum solid through 3. that’s twice he’s gotten Yelich harmlessly with RISP.
Gotta wonder what Brewers think of him, not to mention Giants pen guys…they seem to have plenty enough bats.
WTF???
that might have been the dumbest steal attempt I’ve seen this year.
ok, that makes more sense I didn’t see that the first time. He though he could catch Moose *flat footed*. Someone as slow as Longo should never think he could catch someone flat footed
Out!
craw guns him down. Btw first assist of the season for Pillar.
that isn’t accurate I don’t think. He’s got 3 before today with the Giants this year,.
yes you are right and I’m wrong, that is his 4th assist of the season.
He also has 5 errors.
you have an odd obsession with trying to discount this guy’s D. He’s an excellent defender.
who has made his share of funky plays. Check out who has more errors on the entire team than he does–only Craw and Longo. I like his range and he has a good arm but the dropped baseballs on easy plays are not cool.
Awesome. Now let’s get some fuckin’ runs.
BTW, Belt didn’t budge on that last play…
MadBum bunting, WTF?
Nice tag at the plate by Craw 1st then Posey to nail a slow footed Moose..
Belt’s swing looked flat-footed.
Probably related to his knee issues.
Bum’s thrown 81 pitches to get through 4. Time for a quick inning if he wants to go 6-7.
0 walks now 6 Ks.
Jesus Panik, at least keep it on the infield so the freaking pitcher can’t score!!
some major brain farts this inning
Los Gigantes estupido.
how is Belt this bad in the outfield? He’s terrible.
Hard to believe Tim Lincecum is older then Matt Cain by 4 months.Timmeh turned 35 in June while Cain is 34 with a birthday in October.
not a great day for ABs either. Giants must have left hitting shoes in clubhouse.
yeah that will work.
this guy seems like perfect 2 hole hitter to me. He can use the whole field and takes good ABs, plus some pop to go with the OB. I think he and Pillar have to hit way higher in the order.
And more Solano pls.
All this guy does is rake. Figures it would take a good Stanford man to fix today’s mess. Well done Slater.
Better Slater then the other Stanford man Garko..
Yeah Slater!
Slater delivers!
Boch out manages again!
Night &Day improvement with their bench this year!
Belt is just fucking worthless.
He’s a foul-ball machine. His ABs really aren’t much fun to watch. Tons of foul-balls and he might grind out a walk.
He might as well bat lead-off to take advantage of the walks.
that AB sucked. That last pitch was off speed down and away. If he’s being shifted then LF is wide f-ing open. He stays back and taps that into the OF Giants score 2 runs right there. Even if it’s a ball what good does a walk do?
There’s ducks on the pond in a 1 run game…figure out a way to drive them in.
perfect the GIDP from Braun and Watson gets out of it.
Wonder if Belt’s license plate reads 3 and 2??
Yaz looked overmatched today.
twitter says Brewers 0-9 with RISP tonite. Gotta get a few more zeroes.
Dyson getting shelled here.
Never liked this beady-eyed skinny Rick Ruschel fuck
Man, Dyson has nothing tonight.
perfect slide Slater almost had him.
Slater comes through again. Yelich just got enough glove on that to stop more bases being taken.
Vogt for me!
Oh Yeah.
Another comeback man both pens having issues tonite.
Slater does it all!
“The last place Giants continue to rock the Brewers around.” brewers twitter response to their beat writer.
This really is an ugly one.
moronta should be in the dugout by now. 2 great Ks.
and instead he’s in the clubhouse. that needed to be at back foot not over the plate.
Tough loss.
Ugh.
Bleh.
At least we’re getting to see some inspired play. We can lose and be rebuilding and still be entertaining. Tonight’s game had its infuriating moments but all in all it was a fun watch.
you know another scenario that know one seems to discuss: We could trade Bum and then re-sign him in the off season. It doesn’t have to be goodbye forever….
It’ll be interesting to see what his market value is after the season.
never seen this before
Stratton is on the Pirates now. He gave up 3 ERs in 3 innings today.
I may not be around to see it all, but I think Bum will have a career similar to C.C. Sabbathia and will get at least 5/125 from someone this winter. Perfect mechanics, ultimate competitor, fearless, and knows how to pitch. Plus he’s a big strong country boy who’s in shape unlike the fat CC…
Its gonna be interesting to see how it plays out. At this point, that big of a contract would surprise me. No way in hell he is coming back to SF after we never tore up his awful deal and when you consider Bochy will be gone and replaced by a new wave guy.
They should have torn up that humiliating contract 30 seconds after this…
Another 60’s hero in dire trouble…
EFIpGQwdv0BSMfmnkld!~~/s-l300.jpg)
I think one thing Loo said about Bum is a key==he knows what he’s doing even with less stuff than 5 years ago. vs. tough lineup in bandbox yard he kept things scoreless even though there were always guys on base til last inning. Even then Brewers were lucky to score. 1 walk/7 Ks. giants will lose a role model for younger guys when he leaves. Anderson can’t do what he can, limit damage and pitch out of trouble finish an inning keeping your team in it, Beede either.
Opie is same way–he doesn’t throw any harder than Bum now, maybe less but even in launch angle juiced ball era can still get guys out.
In game interviews usually suck, but the one with Vogt last night was outstanding. A real pro and definite manager material. He couldn’t say enough about the work ethic, preparation and focus that Bumgarner brings to the park every day. Posey too…
