A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Action Required, Action Demanded!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 31, 2019

Well, here we are. July 31st. Our supposed *Super Bowl*. Sadly, Zaidi has been as inactive as….Sabean? I’ve fully braced myself for an onslaught of absolutely nothing happening—what a travesty that will be. And I will reign condemnation down upon Young Z. This is your damn job, man. This is why you were brought in here!

If I wanted the Giants to keep all the old guys around and/or trade or sign more old guys I would have advocated for them to keep Evans and Sabean!

Z has improved the team with some solid, under the radar outfielders (Pillar, Yaz and Dick). But there is so much more that needs to get done. Fuck this year and this idiotic pipe dream chase for one damn game.

Do what you were brought in here to do Young Z. My wrath will be swift and painful should you fail….

Promising inning ends up a thud..

That’ll work. July was one hell of a month.

      Love this fucking guy

      • djloo27 said, on July 31, 2019 at 7:27 pm

He really enjoys a Giant victory and clearly annoys the miserable Dodger fan and his buddies in the background…

      • Flavor said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:55 pm

OMG I never even saw the Dodger fan in the background! I LOVE IT 50 X MORE NOW!!!!!!!!

    Still riding the wave . . .

Giants looking sharp, take game 2
3 Bombs, Shark 6 shutout innings no walks improve s to 8-8 and lowers his ERA to 3.77 very respectable in these days of juiced balls..

    • zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 7:21 pm

Yeah, maybe Smarj’s biggest game as a Giant so far. He looked like the guy we originally thought we were getting.

    • willedav said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:04 pm

exactly AK. Smrdz quietly having decent year. 5 bombs from 5 different guys…this so isn’t the Giants of May anymore. They are right behind playoff teams thought they aren’t getting any help from A’s who are down 3-1 to brewers tonite.
Nothing “idiotic” about playoff chase save all the doom posts that deny it’s real.

Subbing Gennett for Panik looks great.

  8. snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:14 pm

Read all the above, still trying to figure out what the hell happened.
But, I am loving’ me some Zman.
Dude makes more moves in an hour than Sabevans did in two years.
How he dumped Melancon and got Hotlanta to eat ALL of that fetid contract is beyond me. That alone is awesome work!
The rest I need to digest.
But, looks like we probably have a future 2nd baseman that’s athletic and quick, courtesy Brewers.
And, possible new outfielder with some pop, courtesy Twins; I think.
Gennet only cost some cash, that alone is an upgrade on Panik.
I have no clue what they do with Panic, looks like at least 3 guys can take his place now.
The only guy I will miss is Dyson, but hey, there’s young arms coming up to help.
Losing Black and Pom Pom are practically nothing burgers.
One thing is for sure, we have a hotdamn active GM that is friggin’ building up this organization, not afraid to make moves and get younger, and that is a beautiful thing….

    • djloo27 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:33 pm

The Melon dump reminded me of the Pirates taking washed up Matt Morris and his shit contract (for Rajai?) about a dozen years ago…

  9. alleykat69 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:16 pm

Yeah anytime you can put in a guy like Scooter over Panik is an upgrade.Especially when a guy hits 4 HOME RUNS and has 10 RBI’s in a game!!!
Yeah he’s just getting back due to some injuries and sure to have rust, but this guy can “HIT”knock on runs 2017 2018 50 HR’s and over 90 RBI’s both seasons!

    • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:20 pm

If you can just buy some pop like that, there is very little downside to that, for sure. No bodies given up, roll the dice and if you end up snake eyes, whatever. I like the never up, never in; blow n’ go attitude of Zman…

    • djloo27 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:30 pm

Yes he can – in a joke park not Oracle Airport.
Fixing the park is mandatory in the off season…

  10. zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:26 pm

Early game tomorrow: 10 AM Pacific Time.

  11. snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:28 pm

Today proves what I said quite a while back, that Zman has experience and contacts in both Leagues.
And that pays off in spades, he’s crafting deals with both leagues.
He managed to make sell-happy fans like me happy, and stand-pat fans that wanted Bum and Smith to stay, happy as well. If those guys both walk in the offseason after a no playoff appearance, that won’t be great, but trades were made today using current asset value to get young talent, and that’s good…

  12. alleykat69 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:35 pm

And then this from Dereck Rodriguez getting Jaylin Davis from the Twins:I played with him in the minors”He can hit the shit out of the ball”
Right-handed hitter with 1.100 OPS since moved to AAA and can play all 3 outfield positions..

  13. snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:37 pm

Just saw a vid of this Jaylin Davis kid out of Minnie AAA team. He’s a RHB outfielder with 15 jacks in AAA since being called up from AA not too long ago. Dude crushed a 425′ oppo bomb to right center. I’m likin” the look of that already.
Here are his numbers in 41 games with Minnie AAA: .331 AVG, 15 HR, 42 RBI, .405 OBP, 1.112 OPS
    Bring it ON !!! …

    • zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:44 pm

And Heliot Ramos looking like he could be legit.
      And Bart on the way.
      Good times ahead.

      • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:52 pm

        Yes sir !
        Giants changing from
        Old and pathetic, to
        Young and athletic…

      • djloo27 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:57 pm

Made a good start today, but Longo, Craw, Posey, Belt and Cueto are still very much on the books for big bucks…

  14. alleykat69 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:47 pm

They took a poll on Triples Alley:
    Player of the game:Shark 41%
    Second: Zman 38%

  15. djloo27 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:53 pm

    Next on Z’s agenda:
Try to sign Bum (and TFLR) before they go FA?
    New manager?

    • alleykat69 said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:56 pm

      Clone Farhan, theirs your manager…

    • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:59 pm

Vogt was with Zaidi, I think, in Oakland.
They knew each other before this season.
So, in the offseason, deal Buster.
Bring up Bart out of 2020 Spring Training; Garcia is backup.
You’ve got youth and pop at the C position.
      Vogt to manager…

      • zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:29 pm

I could see that more like 2021.

  16. snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 8:53 pm

Bagg’s twitter feed says Bochy has told Panik that they will resolve his situation soon, whatever that means.
I assume it means they’ll DFA him, I don’t see any other choice.
He has an option, but may have enough years to refuse to go back to the minors.
They must have tried to trade him, but no takers?…

  17. Flavor said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:09 pm

Vogt as the manager would be ballsy as fuck but I love that idea so much more than some retread like Wotus or the other guy. But you know what, I don’t think Z would ever have a retread in his sights anyway, that would be what Sabean and Evans would do. We’re golden.

    • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:29 pm

I was already down with the Zman.
      After today, I’m totally in.
For me, the guy has 2020 and 2021 to get this S together. He may make some wrong moves, but that’s part of the deal.
He’s a trader, a gambler. A volume deal guy, there’s bound to be some detritus along the way, but he trusts his approach, and so do I.
Accumulate, aggregate, segregate, then obliterate (the opposition)…

      • blade3colorado said, on August 1, 2019 at 6:45 am

Great post snarkk. Like you, I have been in his corner since day 1. Read your post again . . . Wow! Spot on my man!

  18. zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:32 pm

The Giants were very patient with Panik. 5 or 6 years in the majors to make his case.

    • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 10:44 pm

That concussion may have had caused some lasting trouble…

  19. zumiee said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:36 pm

Panik never really became the “all fields” hitter we hoped he’d be. He became just another guy pounding the ball into the shift.

  20. mrsprtdude said, on July 31, 2019 at 9:43 pm

OMG Z must have read your opening paragraph Craig! Melancon started pitching well and he got someone to take that contract!!! Yes!
Reloaded with some talent and gave away nothing the people on this blog give 2 shits about. Yes Dyson was pretty good, but a small price to pay. And got the Reds to pay Gennets contract so we could bench or get rid of Panik. Best day for SF re trading since Sabean got kent.

  21. willedav said, on July 31, 2019 at 10:27 pm

looks like Giants did get the ML ready replacement for Panik after all with the kid Dubon. Brews fans mostly all disappointed especially given what they got back in Poms, who could help them, and Black (who sucks).
see what happens with Gennett, who might only be a rental. But nice rental to have around for couple more months.

    • snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 10:46 pm

      Agree with all of that.
Panik has to be gone, I should think. Gennet will play in, if he’s healthy, all he cost was $, which the Giants print anyway…

  22. snarkk said, on July 31, 2019 at 11:15 pm

The more I read about this Dubon kid from the Brew Crew. rated their #3 farmhand, the more it looks like this could be a steal for the Giants. Kid has some pop, speed, very athletic, can play basically anywhere in the IF except 1b. If he turns out to be as good as he seems, then giving up Pom and Black for him will look like theft by Zman…
