Well that went predictably awful. When Fedde shuts you down it’s time to take a step back, re-evaluate, take stock, etc….Smarge was a nibblin’ fool, he came up ant-small again. Losing Dick has castrated this offense.

I’m cool with Menez because he’s someone new, he’s a fairly legit prospect, but this feels a little too early for him to be counted on.

Long, slow, maybe swift decline is upon us. Hope Bochy enjoys it.

Giants have to stop the bleeding, stat.
Else this already pipe dream of a WCII berth turns into just the search for Boch’s 2000th…

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:17 am

a search good ol’ GH has never and will never give up.

      • gianthead said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:48 am

Damn right:) thought we would be at 18 games out:(

      • gianthead said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:20 am

        I missed one win…he is 18 out!!

  2. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:27 am

We are being outshined by a newbie pitcher yet again. 18 wins though should be easy to achieve.

If I’m playing the Giants and I NEED a win, I trot out any warm body from the farm system.

    Sunday’s loss was Boch’s 2,000th.

What a shit ass game to actually have on our local TV to have stayed up to watch…couple bad plays in the field maybe saves a couple of runs but our below standard offense has been exposed…

    • Bozo said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:18 am

MASN is my local too. Do you get the feeling that the one TV guy (Bob Carpenter?) just wants to bitch slap FP at some point?

  5. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:53 am

19…Yes 19 …3 ball counts by Giant pitchers last night..It does give you plenty of time between batters to get a beer, take a shit, start dinner, laundry, walk the dog, kick the dog,it was one hell of a frustrating game to watch..

  6. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:58 am

What did Krukow say yesterday? 19 3-2 counts? 8 walks? Errors, weak ass grounders,

Just tell the team it is July 37th. We got tto reeel off like5 in a row to get some mo going.

No Dick till Saturday. Sorry, honey.

Is it really asking to much to bring the new possible phenom Jaylin Davis up and see if he can supply the fire and energy that the Dick provided?Put the kid at leadoff followed by Solano, now you have my juices flowing again..

  8. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:11 am

“Losing Dick has castrated this offense.” A tip of the hat to you for that early morning gem, Craig… 🙂

  9. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:20 am

Kat, I agree with your call for the newbies to be brought up and played. In my day dreams (wouldn’t waste my night time dreams on it), Belt Craw Panik are all platooned with the newbies and yeah, Davis added to OF. But that’s not going to happen in Bochy’s final 2 months, nor would Z force Bruce to go that way. Unless the team gets hot again (looking doubtful), I’m beginning to think Craig is right: these last 2 months are going to be a slow painful march to nowhere. ……. Next up in day dreams: new manager next year.

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:40 am

I’m actually for Bochy getting to do whatever he wants the last couple of months. We don’t have a real chance at the post season, it’s all a mirage—fuck the number of games out we are. Look at the players on the team and ask yourself if this looks like a playoff team to you. And that’s forgetting all this leapfrogging we have in front of us. It’s silly, unless they plan on getting back to .700 ball but come fucking on. After all that shit we did in July we’re still sitting at 2% at fangraphs. TWO FUCKING PERCENT.
To me, letting him manage out the string the way he wants is a decent way to *repay* him. Keeping Bum and Smith was stupid for our future but if this is what his *ride off into the sunset* looks like, at this point fuck it, that’s fine. Can’t do anything about the trade deadline now, that’s in the past. I think it will be a completely ordinary, underwhelming ride but if that’s what everyone thinks he deserves so be it. Is that really that big of a deal to him tho? Steering the ship square into an under .500 iceberg? What’s he get out of that? What do we get out of that?

  10. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:33 am

Yes sadly your probably right P/A. Bochy ever the old war horse will live&die with the unproductive vets till the bitter end…

  11. snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:41 am

They should bring up Davis and Doubon(sp?) to see what they have, evaluate those guys. What they show will educate the FO about what to target in offseason moves. Screw service time considerations and all that, it’s time to get real about talent improvement…

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:44 am

i guess, and I would support that, but we could also just do that next year. Not trading Bum or Smith has probably turned next year into an *evaluation* year too.

  12. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:58 am

Yep, I was in favor of Bochy retiring at the break so the team could start evaluating itself NOW and not wait until next year, but at this point, just let Brucie do what’s comfortable for him, thus pushing eval into next season. I’m not bashing Bochy; I give him all the credit in the world for the 3 rings. But he was never going to veer from the script in his final year. And that’s ok. With a new manager and new players (I’m expecting a busy off-season for Trader Z) next year, that’s… ok…

  13. willedav said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:02 am

Giants have elevated themselves into the middle ground of NL. Playoff team, not quite. But the elite teams are really only LA and Cubs, with Braves on outside. other than that Giants aren’t much worse than any of the others (Phils Nats Cards Brewers Mets yada yada) and climbed out of last place guaranteed doldrums and Kratz era. This isn’t same team as end of May and deals made by Z at deadline were great. It’s also a great op to get good look at young pitching and for them to figure out how to get to next level. Everyone needs pitching and since Giants still aren’t going to out bomb teams, they really need to hold them down.

and I’ll include part of that as NOT trading Bum and Smith for scraps which is what likely was offered. He was the bully here not other way around–if Yanks et al didn’t pony up what we wanted he told them to look elsewhere. and what did any of them do? Not jack shit.

  14. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:06 am

I’d like to Dubon up as well, but with a log jam at second Genett,Solano, and Panik who they refuse to dump theirs no room for him with that much vet love..
    Jaylin Davis at Sac..8-14 2 doubles 2Hr’s batting .571 .647 obp 1.861 OPS !! guess his 3 K’s are holding him back..

  15. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:26 am

The thing is, evaluating guys like Davis and Avenido (AAA SS?) will likely improve the team. The fucking quadrosuckia of Belt, Posey, Crawfish, and Panik should be benched at worst, and platooned NOW. Panik should not even be on the roster. They have 3 guys already better than him.

Half this lineup is a weak pop up or grounder to 2nd. Scoots even got into the act yesterday by taking a defensive swing on the FIRST fucking pitch he saw in the 7th.

I seriously don’t get their collective approach when they see a guy for the first time. They act like they are trying to hit BBs in the dark with a broomstick.

    • willedav said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:42 am

well it happened to Cards too last night in LA. dodgers kid call up shut them out on 2 hits for 6 innings, walked 1 K’d 7. this shit doesn’t only happen to Giants and Cards have lot more to worry about than giants do.

      • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:26 am

Has it happened to the Cards 10 times this year? Cuz that feels like what it has been this year.

  16. willedav said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:46 am

I’m more convinced than ever Z is the guy who got over on everyone else. Besides getting decent prospects for Pom (!) and Dyson, he got the Braves to eat all of M’s contract a fantastic enough deal on its own. Plus he kept his 2 best pitchers while the teams with obvious needs didn’t get them. when yanks and LA go down in playoffs that’s more than likely going to be the reason–their pitching isn’t good enough and they weren’t willing to pay up at deadline to improve it
    F em both.

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:02 am

I’m fine with what he did I just don’t buy the theory he got offered shit for both bum AND Smith. I think he got bullied into keeping them because of this mirage run they went on

      • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:16 am

By “mirage” I mean a run they couldn’t sustain. A run they would have needed to sustain to make the post season

      • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:29 am

        By Baer? The ownership mob?

You KNOW it wamed Larry’s little heart that they started winning when he came back. Mainly because the fans came back.

      • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:35 am

i think the bullying probably did come from the players. Z knew they wanted him to keep Bum and Smith and he’s a new GM and he probably just caved a little—remember he wasn’t making any friends when he first came aboard and was signing and jettisoning players 12 times a day. Holland showed the true feelings of the vets with that rant he went on in early May.

      • willedav said, on August 6, 2019 at 12:09 pm

I totally buy that theory (lack of credible offers not team morale one)–teams today way overvalue controllable prospects. Giants doing well made Z’s position one more of strength and when big boys didn’t offer who he wanted he drew his line and sand and said live with what you got. And few teams would take both together. I mean cubs added Holland, my god.

I figure giants not making playoffs is what will happen but staying .500 or close to it to me is great and I’m not an FB babe.. I think it’s doable if they get better pitching and some of hitters come back around, And keeping Bum is absolutely the right thing to do.

  17. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:25 am

Another Dull signing,Giants claim RHP Ryan Dull off the A’s scrap pile..12.00 ERA with A’s…5.76 in AAA, another cheap no risk flyer that Z hopes the minor league coaches can turn around.

What I’ve learned today – Sometimes you need to to step out of the kitchen when you’re making hot sauce from fresh peppers.Getting a lung full of the pepper mash can really take your breath away.
Oops, off topic. Go Giants, get hot.

    • zumiee said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:39 am

Yes, you literally pepper-sprayed yourself, and that’s not fun at all. That happened to me once when a roommate was doing that in the kitchen, and we had to stagger outside to breathe.

  19. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 11:32 am

I think the only way they improve IS to evaluate.

  20. blade3colorado said, on August 6, 2019 at 12:02 pm

Baer is practically a non-entity and is probably going to be the next “bow tie.” Back in late June, the Giants acknowledged Baer’s pending return and announced that Rob Dean, the son-in-law of late Giants principal owners Harmon and Sue Burns, would continue as the MLB control person and be Baer’s boss.

All these conspiracy theories about Z crack me up. When the trade deadline passed, I think just about everyone here was singing his praises about how he “thread the needle,” i.e., satisfying both the optimists for this season, as well as the people who wanted to start the rebuild. Like Willie said, getting rid of Melanoma alone was unfuckingbelievable and better yet, not having to pay any of his contract made that deal especially sweet.

I agree that we have less than zero chance (umm wait, 2%) of making the playoffs, but whatever, if we do it, fantastic. Concurrent with that, I am extremely satisfied with his moves to acquire a few prospects. Most baseball sites, have the Giants being one of the “Winners” of the trade deadline. Who doesn’t think that???

Now, I am looking forward to next season, including having all or either Panic, Craw, Belt, Longo, and Posey being traded or players being acquired to compete with them. Similarly, I want to see Smarg gone if that is possible. No opinion really on Bum, except I don’t want any Brink trucks backing up to his SF home.

    • zumiee said, on August 6, 2019 at 12:13 pm

With a new manager coming in next season, the Bochy era is over, and Z will be freer to reconstruct in a bigger way. It will still be a challenge about what to do with the “rotten core.” Z’s creative thinking will have to be off the charts on that.

  21. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 12:19 pm

Panik is easy. He can walk when the season ends. It’s looking like keeping Smargle won’t be too damaging. Cueto is a big ? But Belt, Posey, Crawfish, and Longo have to be dealt with. Posey isn’t going anywhere, but I think even the fans are tired of ol’ Gumby-shoulders and Crawfish. Longo as well. If they can lose 2 of them before spring next year, I’ll be thrilled. Then get rid of one more by the deadline.

Cueto felt discomfort in his elbow even in June yet they didn’t shut him down, if they had done that then until waiting to August for his TJ,he could be in the rotation now for the pivotal stretch run. That rotation of Bum,Shark&Cueto would look pretty good right now..

  30. willedav said, on August 6, 2019 at 1:41 pm

Ah Longo is a .760 OPS guy; hard to imagine Green puts up numbers like that. He struggles at home but rakes on the road. Maybe new dimensions at yard helps him since he does have pop to RCF I can live with him and finding above league average 3b to replace him, with power, ain’t gonna be easy or cheap.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Sando because he is part of the logjam of IFs, definitely a Bochy guy and no longer an every day player. If Green is to come up sando doesn’t really have a spot except as back up 1b/PH. And it seems inevitable Giants will have new 1b, maybe 2 of them.
Posey and Vogt make a good combo. Vogt can’t play everyday and they mentor pitchers well. Bart is not ready for ML pitching if A ball is bothering him, and it is. He needs one more season to work on some things.

  35. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 3:12 pm

Yes I agree Blade.Panik was a class act guy and without his production especially “The flip” to Craw to start an unbelievable DP maybe they don’t win that series.Hey Joe has a ring,a GG, and a A/S game appearance, not to shabby on the resume..
Good Luck moving forward Joe, may in New York? the Mets can use you with Cano out, and it would be cool to go back to your roots in NY!!

  36. zumiee said, on August 6, 2019 at 3:53 pm

There’s a lot of heartbreak going on at Facebook. The ladies dig Joe. And seeing the actual dismantling of a core that helped win championships is a shock to some people when it actually starts happening, and isn’t just speculation anymore.
More of the dismantling and rebuilding to come in the off-season, hopefully. I would say Belt is up next, unless he starts hitting the ball in the next couple of months.

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 5:13 pm

Belt’s not going anywhere, he’s owed 17 mil next season and the one after that. Thanks, Sabean.

I think ZMan can get rid of Belt to the right organization, for a price, and that will be taking back some of the deal. If anybody can do this, ZMan can. He offloaded Melancon’s entire deal, a miracle; so Belt moving and maybe Craw too, should be lighter lifting. Now, moving Longo’s albatross, that’s some real heavy lifting…

    • snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 5:26 pm

And, if ZMan moves Belt to a bandbox ballpark in the off season, I guaroooontee he will have 25 jacks by next mid-August…

      • sandog said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:07 pm

Craw has a full no trade, strong ties to the bay area, makes big money and isn’t that good anymore. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I think he is in the “Impossible to Move” category along with Buster, Longoria, and Cueto.

I agree that Belt MAYBE can be moved. After that, its dumpster dives and hope the farm starts producing.
Z is good at these dumpster dives though…..

Paniks DFA predicted, no other choice. He was a good Giant, but not anymore. Thanks for your service. He’s got a ring and a few million in the Bank, and probably will play a few more years for at least one more team. Not a bad Deal. He’ll get a good round of applause at the 2024 WS reunion…

  44. djloo27 said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:19 pm

Swapping bad contracts is one of my favorite ways to concoct a trade, but for some reason it’s rarely done.
For years, I was trying to dump Zito for guys like Soriano and Wells…

  45. snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:25 pm

What do you guys think is the deal with Panik, Belt, Craw, Buster. These Guys are not THAT old. They’ve just cratered at the plate for well over a season+. Like off a cliff. Is it the money? Panik is the only guy not making major coin. I just don’t get it…

    • djloo27 said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:31 pm

Panik and Belt had concussion issues and were never THAT good.
Crawford’s been out of shape for years and had a major family tragedy.
Posey is just all beat up like all veteran catchers…

      • alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:57 pm

Pretty much sums it up to a tee Loo!

      • snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:19 pm

        That’s not bad.
        Panik’s only 28.
The concussion thing I do think is a wild card in this for him, maybe Belt too, he’s had 4 or so of ’em…

  46. pawliekokonuts said, on August 6, 2019 at 6:44 pm

Panik. #ForeverGiant. Met him after 2014 WS, at the trophy event with Mays. Humble. Personable. Boyish. wishing him all the best.

The hand wringing over Panik everywhere but here is absurd…

    • Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:31 pm

it’s shocking. I’ve been sifting through it on twitter. I must not have a heart. Either that or I’m one of the few that saw this guy has sucked for literally YEARS

  49. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:29 pm

If the Mets are any team pickup Panik before this weekend can he wear DFA on his jersey for his nickname?

    • djloo27 said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:31 pm

      Funny, Kat!
      Unlike this game…

  50. Flavor said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:32 pm

This Menez blow up isn’t too surprising. He’s either not ready or maybe bringing a young guy up like this in August is a bad idea. I dunno, just a working theory.

  51. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 7:33 pm

4-0 ..Vogt in LF and already couldn’t get to a catchable ball pretty much sums it up..

it’s really crazy that the Dick fueled all of this. Like, fucking all of it.

  54. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:09 pm

Jesus. Our newbies gert beaten like rented Fords. Too bad he can’t pitch against us.

5 innings, 1 hit. That sounds about right.

    We are Dickless wonders.

  55. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:19 pm

So once Menez gets shipped out tomorrow can we please see Jaylin Davis get the call up, so i dont have to see Vogt in LF. I mean i love the guy but this is pathetic having a catcher in the outfield..

  56. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:31 pm

Seriously. Putting Vogt out there is ludicrous. Belt is bad enough.

  57. sandog said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:32 pm

Maybe this has come up before, but Michael Morse is a studio guy on the Nats broadcast. Caught some of his act during pre-game and I thought he was good. Very demonstrative and funny—obviously comfy in his own skin. And still looks a lot like Kirk Hammett.—–which was a great Loo look-alike call.

  58. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:33 pm

He was on the Giants post game show last year iirc. He didn’t last long. Maybe he was just a temp.

  59. Stan Shell said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:36 pm

Well, I can’t watch the game but checked in here to find out I didn’t want to watch it.

I call it “BFs Curse”. He predicted this exact scenario a week before the trade deadline.

    So, it’s his fault!

    OSF

  60. blade3colorado said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:41 pm

That’s BS that Dick did everything. Go check the game logs for Craw, Longo, and Vogt in July. Those guys were all contributing in a major way. I haven’t even checked out the rest of the team. In short, it was a team effort, including the starting pitching and bullpen or how else did we win all those 1 run games?

This team just isn’t good enough . . . They shot their wad in July and the other 3 months plus, they’ve been putrid.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:57 pm

Like I said Yaz was on fire in July. It’s like they wanted to make the push to keep the team together, and now that they did, they’ve all just rolled over. Its pitching more than anything although the hitting has gone south, as has the defense.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 8:58 pm

Yep and Solano&Yaz and Slater all contributed..
Solano should be playing more, but not in Bochyy World.Cracks back to back Jack’s in Colorado, what’s that earn him more bench time?

  61. snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:07 pm

Nice to see Musclehead still sucks, gave it up to us somewhat.
Flemm on radio was surprised to hear some boos when they announced Musclehead as pitcher? I would be surprised if there were no boos…

  62. snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:09 pm

I share the headslap as to why Solano isn’t playing every damn game, somewhere.
The guy has been the only dude on fire for weeks. Two jacks at Coors in one game, and phhttttt — he’s disappeared.
    Hello, Bochy — WTF ?…

    • Macdog said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:15 pm

I’d bet no one on the team has more hard-hit hits than Solano.

  63. zumiee said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:11 pm

When Robles fielded Posey’s single, he looked like he was playing real shallow.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:15 pm

Buster may get thrown out at first soon.

  64. Macdog said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:13 pm

Just realized I’ll miss my daughter blurting out PANIK whenever he came to bat.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:16 pm

She can now blurt that out for everyone on the team.

  65. alleykat69 said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:20 pm

Their so stupid, with the biggest 7 game series with Nats&Phils, there best hitter sits on the bench, the kid that’s tearing it up at Sac and should be starting these games instead of a freaking catcher in LF can’t get a callup, teams that feel they still have a legit shot rolls the dice, not the Giants..

  66. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:24 pm

So, what was Dickerson’s nickname that he was denied?

    Throbbing Dick? Gigantic Dick?

  67. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:27 pm

Oh boy. Crawfish bette get the ball off teh round.

  68. unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:30 pm

    Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.

  69. sandog said, on August 6, 2019 at 9:37 pm

Pablo went down hacking—–I’ll give him that.

I was initially a little down about Panik. My son got that home run ball of his in the LCS and ended up meeting him and getting a signed bat. But I was hanging in there. I mean, they gave the guy a lot of rope to get it going and it just wasn’t happening.
Then I saw Mac’s 9:13 and I got sad again. Then I saw on Twitter the Friends bit the Giants did that featured Panik and his wife and now I am super sad.
I hope the guy goes to the Mets and turns things around.

Good article by Brisbee on The Athletic about how awful the Giants hit at home this year. FInal line of the article:

“The Giants have a chance to be one of the worst teams in baseball history when it comes to scoring runs at home compared to on the road. Adjust your expectations accordingly.”

  71. snarkk said, on August 6, 2019 at 10:24 pm

They’ve got to bring the fences in for team sanity.
The Giants hit on the road.
Then they come home and immediately go into the fetal position at the plate…

A very fine song from John’s solo career.
