Saluting Smarge

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 11, 2019

Besides giving a collective knowing dude head nod from Flap Nation to Kevin Pillar for being so important to the success of the team this year I think it’s time we give one to Smarge who has exceeded expectations. Come on, you can do it. Grudgingly, do it. A 3.55 ERA this year? Expected more like 7.55 amirite?

Yesterday he gives up a bomb in the first, we all start our usual “Smargerine sucks” chant and lo and behold it was just one of two hits he gave up for the game! He pitched like a man yesterday and deserves our respect.

Menez today, one of these days one of these young guys gonna step up and surprise me this August. Might take until September. Or next April?

      Smitty!

  3. pawliekokonuts said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:29 pm

I totally didn’t make up Eyechart. I thought somebody here came up with it. I’m not that original.

It annoys me that Jon Miller says “overshift.” It’s a shift. It’s not like they are shifting more radically on a preexisting shift. It’s a shift, by definition, not an overshift.

Smith first SF reliever in 20 years to have 2 RBIs, they said on the radio side.

Panik is a pro, but Gennett has that thing that Pillar brought to the team this season: hard-nosed type grittiness that had gotten away from the Giants the last few seasons.

    Smitty does it all!

tremendous ballgame. 3 of 4 from phils after disastrous series vs. Nats. They ain’t dead yet.

    • Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:51 pm

they are NOT, agreed, and this was a fantastic win that could easily have been a rollover loss after Mendez walked us into the deep end

  9. Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:47 pm

Longo, Yaz, Gennett and Pillar. Another nice win, another day you guys can say Pillar sucks cause of his OBP/WAR. He just keeps padding those stats and helping us win.

    • willedav said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:50 pm

when he is hot like now (and when he first got here) he can carry them, definitely. Did it all today!

    • zumiee said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:51 pm

His OPS was .718, so it did need padding. 🙂

      • Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:55 pm

maybe he’ll start taking more walks like Belt and bump that stat up. Shit, man, he’s the only one doing anything with the bat consistently. It’s impossible to lead your team in every offensive category from the 6 hole if you aren’t making at least some things happen. He’s the WMA winner in my head, probably will reside there and die there…..

one of the twitter comments had @letwillyhit
Interesting comments on Phils beat writer @MattGelb too, lol. as in not letting Kapler get on plane home after Phils went 2-5 on road trip.

    • Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 7:52 pm

Kapler looks like he’d be fine with being left off the plane and fired and just sitting there tearing off his shirt and posing down on the SF international runway for 30 mins or so.

He’d probably love to get all oiled up and strike a pose in one of those pet bathrooms!

    A very entertaining game.

      I fly into Minneapolis Thursday.
I can’t wait to compare their pet relief area game to SFO….

      • Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:18 pm

dude what are you doing in Minn?

      • djloo27 said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:19 pm

What are you doing up so late?

      • sandog said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:25 pm

Family Reunion for my dads side of the family. My Iowa peeps.

      • djloo27 said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:27 pm

You can sack Joe Kapp while you’re there…

      • djloo27 said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:28 pm

I wouldn’t go to a family reunion if they were having it in my living room…

      • sandog said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:35 pm

…sounds like ur not a big reunion guy Loo.
How about a Flap NYC Reunion???

  15. willedav said, on August 11, 2019 at 8:36 pm

you know that ain’t a bad LU that went out there today (saving Pablo and Dick less) though if you have to have Belt and Craw in there they need to hit 7th and 8th and move Pillar and Slater up nearer the top.
Loo, Kapp used to live out here, I’ve waited on him at work, hour or so south from SF.

  16. Flavor said, on August 11, 2019 at 9:18 pm

Diggity is always on the move. He’s Loo minus the 3 legged kitty.

  17. Macdog said, on August 11, 2019 at 10:04 pm

Gary Cuozzo, Kapp’s successor as Vikes QB, was an orthodontist in my hometown in Jersey after his playing days.

    • djloo27 said, on August 12, 2019 at 4:19 am

He relieved a beaten to a pulp Kapp late in SB IV and threw a meaningless interception.
He was fortunate that he wasn’t brought into the slaughter earlier…

Speaking of Minnesota, isn’t that where Stix is in prison? Or is it in a neighboring state?

    • djloo27 said, on August 12, 2019 at 4:12 am

I think he is in Minnesota, Mac. The 3 year anniversary of the incident just passed and he was sentenced to 5 years in November 2017. Assuming that included time served, he’s got 2 years to go on it. Wish they would spring him early but I doubt it with all the shootings going on. I think that’s what doomed him from the start. As Flavor said a few months ago, Stix’ return is one of his main reasons to keep the Flap going. This is the most recent thing I could find:

SanDawg visiting Stix would be like winning another WS for us…
