“Back In My Day….”
Beede yanked at 72 pitches. This was one of the many reasons this fake wild card chase was never going to work out. Our young pitchers were going to either run out of gas or have their arms protected as their innings rose to *dangerous* levels in September. I’m not sure what qualifies a young arm to approach *dangerous inning levels* but it’s probably an underwhelming number….
And now D-Rod. Ugh. Make it stop…..
Well, in fairness to other Flappers here, who did believe – it was never a “fake wild card chase.” Similarly, the Giants front office must have thought there was a chance, so they more or less parlayed their bet and took a calculated gamble by getting rid of Dyson, Panik and Melancon, but keeping MadBum and Smith.
However, the 2nd part of your sentence is true in my opinion. Yes, the wild card chase “was never going to work out.” You, snarkk and I always said that (and maybe one or two others here).
I just wished their not so adamant starting the core instead of the future going forward (and yes it’s Bochy’s who still wants to see his special LU cards of rotten core to the very in sadly😩) they don’t need to see the Dick out there and his below average fielding and now hitting. They need to bring up Jaylin Davis and atleast put him in a corner OF spot, since Boch won’t move Pillar out of center and risk butt hurting him.Just dumb, knowing any other team except are’s would have Davis already in their LU’s..
Yeah said that last week. If anyone should be out of the lineup, it’s the suddenly limp Dick. I can’t believe they are really this worried about Davis’ FA clock. Fucking retarded.
As I have said multiple times over the past week or so, it may be that Sacramento wants Davis in their line-up for their playoff run.
Playoffs? Playoffs? Who really gives a Rats 🐀 Ass about Rivercats Playoffs, except the marginal players who will never see the Show..
Jaylin Davis is “The Show& energy”that needs to be seen right now.His excitement along with Dubon’s is what’s needed to be played right now, instead of the rotting carcasses that are out there right now…
Kat – I don’t give a rats ass about the River Cat’s playoffs, but their manager probably does. And this was all just a guess on my part…
I highly doubt that, Chuck. If they don’t call him up soon, we won’t see him till mid May next year.
Yeah, I’m with AK. Sure I had a faint hope they could continue the streak. Still and all. they did more than I thought they could at the time given the circumstances. Bummie would be a 2 month rental, and he has made it fairly plain he wants to stay here, so I don’t think Farhan got a lot of super offers.
Smith? No idea. I thought he and Watson would have been the guys to go. But getting Dubon and Davis, and not having to eat Melonhead is a good start.
All I want this offseason is for Belt and Crawfish to somehow be jettisoned. Getting rid of 2 bad deals will do worlds for this team. Belt should be tradeable. Crawfish is a stale fish. He should just be cut.
Unca and AK, do you think the Giants are playing Belt and Craw in the hope that they increase their trade value for the off season? Just my take, but I think Craw has zero value, except as an occasional bench player. So, it really makes no sense why he is playing. Belt on the other hand, might be salvageable to another team (e.g., snarkk suggested a team with a “band box stadium” back East).
Regardless, I want both of them gone too. Posey apparently still has “icon” status with the Giants and probably wont be gone until one more putrid season even convinces the Facebook house wives that he has to go.
I think the only reason they are playing is because of Bochy. It took Boch 5 months to move Posey from the top of the order. He’s simply playing his guys as he plays out his string. He’s gonna ride them until he rides off.
Posey will never be cut. He’s the golden boy. Well, geezer. Longo is semi-productive, and they can’t lose all 4 guys at once as they’ll be eating ~$160 mill +, but like I said, with Farhan in charge, they should be able to trade Belt and cut Crawford. Maybe we eat 2/3 of Crawfish and trade him to the Angels.
Fuck if I know, I just want 2 deals gone. Smargle is actually doing OK for now. He may or may not be moveable, but there’s no one on the farm itching to replace him, so play out the string.
Blade,I agree it’s just Bochy’s way till the very in with his stubbornness to pull a vet.It goes back to Randy Winn even, when he stunk it up his final season and had “2HR’s yes let me say that again “2 HR’s” in 566 AB’s!! as he would refuse to play a young but talented at the time Nate Scheirholtz ..
As far as this In Core able bunch, Belt’s still in there in the delusional attempt by Bochy for him to hit 4 more HR’s to join, the possible 4 Giants to hit 20 HR’s is my only reasoning. He has some trade value to a bandbox park(Yanks a perfect fit) so hopefully Zman makes it so in the winter meetings eating 2/3 of his contract? As far as Craw? Like Posey a Icon here especially with his 5-6 year old picture that all the FB women eat up, so I’m not sure he gets moved, Dubon totally locks up 2nd base with plenty of SS time as well for the aging Craw, probably Z’s play for now..
Turns out AA may not be so tough for Bart after all as he checks in with a .472 avg over his last 10. Overall in 22 games (79 ab) at AA = .316/.368/.544/.912
Nice blurb at Baseball America too;
“The Scoop: The Giants’ top prospect put an exclamation point on his season with an extremely strong finish to his brief tenure at Double-A Richmond. He produced an .868 OPS in August, which included four of his 16 homers in his first full season as a pro. He might not have any 80-grade tools on his card, but Bart has a plethora of pluses that should lead him to become the Giants’ long-term answer at catcher. (JN)

Thanks for the info Dirt . . . Last I read he was scuffling, but he seems to have come back with a vengeance in the month of August.
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Stephen Vogt (L) C
5. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Mauricio Dubon (R) 2B
9. Dereck Rodriguez (R) P
At least there’s space between Belt and Crawford. ED(ick) needs to stiffen up and get going.
7-44 (.159) in the last month.
Probably should choke up or something.
It’s totally Looney Tunes in the bomb crazed MLB. Yesterday, the Bums beat the Sherpas 16-9 and get this, they weren’t playing in Denver. A total of 11 bombs hit by both teams in what use to be a pitcher’s park. Meanwhile, the Snakes beat the Padres 14-7 in a pitchers duel . . . I joke, I joke. Only 5 balls left the park in Phoenix.
Hey Flav, we need to move this guy to the Flapper dust bin . . . Bye bye.
Mountain Mike’s tonight. 2 larges, $34. Can’t beat that.
Yeah im going pizza 🍕 to BF, I have my fantasy football draft tonight via cellphone with my daughter and it’s freakin crazy when everyone is rapid firing picks and you have little time on the clock ⏰ to make that special sleeper pick are 2 that separates the Winners from the Losers in a long season! Pizza&Beer🍺 is the only choice on draft night!!
Panik just donged Scherzer. I think I’ve seen it all now.
So the Giants pickup a total scrub in Corban Joseph a lifetime .197 hitter in 3 scattered seasons in the bigs add him to the final 40 man roster spot, bring him up immediately as a backup infielder, while Jaylin “we will see you in ST next year” Davis gets the shaft to show what he can do down the stretch..
I don’t know if it’s a combo of Z and Bochy on this call,I’m guessing Boch, but I can’t wait for him to ride off in the sunset 🌅 soon..
Just about the 3rd time through the LU for DRod . . . Hope he can get through it. Cards pitcher has a no no going.
Not anymore..
It’s hard to believe we had a dude named Conor “Cuppa” Joe on the roster. That seems a long time ago, among the first of our 39 outfielders who auditioned. Man, Z-Man doesn’t carry long leashes.
As far as surnames go, Giants have gone from Joe to Joseph.
Syracuse lost a tiebreaker to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre today. 14-13. 14-13!!! I was hoping they’d win just so I could give WORLD SERIOUS to Gregor Blanco. It arrived today. Maybe he’ll be around tomorrow, or they’ll get it to him.
Eric Krispy Kratz with a game winner?
Wow that’s what makes the game great!
On any given night anyone can be a hero!
Gawd. Kratz was so krappy for us.
We have the best warning track power in MLB. No team comes close.
Our team is also the most efficient. Three up, three down. Games never last beyond a couple of hours. lulz
See that? Pfffttt! The fastest “Pfffttt” in MLB.
The only thing faster than that game was the time it took Bochy to make out the lineup.
Damn, really wanted to get a win today.
An Anti-Viagra offense. The San Francisco Impotents.
Hey John . . . Hope you and your’s are not in the path of Dorian. Thoughts are with you and your neighbors.
Thanks Steve, mandatory evacuations for visitors began today, According to the latest message from the Emergency Management team, the confidence is high that Eastern North Carolina will see direct impacts, possibly starting as early as late Wednesday, with greatest impacts likely Thursday and Friday.
My errands are pretty much done as is some prep work, tomorrow will be all day prep work to secure the property. This shit is getting pretty old.
John, praying for you and your’s . . . Sheesh, I still recall going across that humongous water way (strait or lake???) on a 2 lane highway/bridge, as well as the surrounding water and beach near the restaurant we ate at for lunch. Just extrapolating a storm, much worse a hurricane sends chills down my spine. I’m glad you did that home “stilt” remodel to your place after that one significant hurricane almost 10 (?) years ago. That gave you a couple of extra feet over potential water if I recall correctly.
Thanks again for the well wishes,Steve, and yeah, we did raise the house 8 feet after we were flooded by Irene. Still have to secure potted plants, loose lumber, outdoor chairs & tables, mowers, grills, bikes and those kind of things (below the house isn’t enclosed). I know I choose to live in hurricane alley but it’s still a pain in the ass that’s starting to wear me down.
When I took the Greyhound from NY last Thursday night, the poor driver got miserably LOST in Scranton. So much for GPS. And training. Long trip. Got lost AGAIN in Binghamton. Egads.
Lulz, how the hell does anyone get lost in those two cities?
Every Congressman and Senator should be required to take a Greyhound ride before taking office. And that’s no joke.
And every airline CEO should be required to fly in “economy” every time they fly…
lulz
Fuck my ass.
Pissin’ in the wind
Bettin’ on a losing friend….
How’s about evaluatin’ him in February in Scottsdale?…
For the first time in 57 years, I truly feel bad for the Mets and their fans…
Can you imagine Francesa watching the end of that game? Is he even still alive? I bet his head blew clean off.
Wow, what a ridiculous loss for the Mets tonight — Nats scored 7 (!!!) runs in the bottom of the 9th to win 11-10.
At least D-Rod did ok. I still have some flickering hope for him.
Just saw video of that 1st inning “curve hit” off DeJong’s bat, starting out way foul and curling back into fair territory. I had always tried to stroke shots like that playing pool and even golf but never succeeded. Kinda reminded me of Pence’s playoff hit when the ball hit the bat 3 different times. Fun stuff.
this dude needs a beer or his pole smoked or something. Fuckin’ relax
You guys were very good.
It was not clear most of the way down reading the blog whether the Giants won/lost. Only near the end did I get the hint they lost. Not hand wringing, recriminations, or much blame. And another shutout loss, no less. On snarkk’s 5 stages of baseball season grief for the Giants demise, we must finally be at “Acceptance”…
Catcher Kurt Suzuki with the 440 foot 3-run dong to left center to walk off the big comeback win for the Nats over the Mets. Crushed a Diaz 100 mph heater. Suzuki will be 36 next month, has hit 15 dongs and is at .798 OPS in 77 games this season. Whatever he’s eating/smoking, give it to Posey…
