Black Shoes Beede has gotten a lot of shit thrown his way lately, almost all of it deserved. But he pitched like a man last night and he gets a knowing dude head nod for that. I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the fact that Ty Blach once shut out the Dodgers, too. But let that not take away from what Black Shoes did.

NFL @draftkings today! Hope you’re all playing.

Beede got it done, and young bullpen guys, too.
Bochy’s big grin after the game says a lot. I’m glad he’s getting some nice moments this season. When the season began, I didn’t care about the whole “Bochy’s last season” thing, but it’s grown on me.

Darryl Strawberry once played for a few months for the Giants in ‘94. It was the subject of a post by BF in 2011. Here’s some of the comments:

Daryl autographed a wrinkled Carvel napkin with a 19 cent Bic pen for me and my fat little girlfriend before a game in 1984. He was very nice and unassuming. For some reason I remember his stirrups weren’t tucked into his cleats, they were just hanging there. Later that night, I was ejected from Shea for doing a running belly flop slide on top of the SF dugout trying to high-five Brenly after a 3-run homer. Jints won.

    What’s a 3-run homer?…

You packed a helluva lot of gold into 4 lines on that one Loo-Carvel, Bic, fat little gf, autograph, stirrups, ejection, belly flop.
    Nicely done.

Was that the late-August doubleheader sweep? If so, I was at that one, and I remember Brenly hit two HRs in the first game.

If I pulled that today, I would do time and possibly be shot on site…

We’re still wondering what a 3-run homer is!

I’m feeling kind of retro-post today for some reason. Here’s a pretty good one from me. I usually don’t like reading my old posts.

Until right now, with last night’s and today’s topic, I had never fully appreciated the implications of that ’82 Giants team knocking the Dodgers out of playoff contention. I mean, I always could get a kick out of seeing Lasorda’s anguish after Morgan’s homerun, and knocking the Dodgers out was awesome; but I had never really fully thought about the fact that the Dodgers were the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS that year. And now, in the last couple of years, with the Giants trying to defend the crown a couple of times, I have a better understanding of the emotion of what happened that day. And what would be more painful, a slow-moving trainwreck like the Giants and their fans have experienced this season, or to get knocked out on a dramatic homerun in the last weekend of the season?

Great sports day for me yesterday. HUGE win for my Aztecs and Black Shoes threw a helluva game.

Beede did some good “Houdini” work against the Bums, getting out of bases loaded situations in both the 2nd and 5th. Actually his magic in the 2nd is primarily due to Pillar making an outstanding play of Hernandez’s shot to left center; and especially, Longo making the diving stop of Smith’s infield single, The latter play prevented 2 runs from scoring easily. Consequently, Beede was able to defuse the bases loaded situation by striking out Gonsolin.

Besides Beede, the other 2 youngsters – Dubon and Gustave – continue to perform, with Gustave getting his 1st MLB save and lowering his ERA to 1.86 in 19 games this season.

I’m hoping DRod can match his 7 inning, one run outing against the Cards last Tuesday. Sweep these MOFOs!!!!!

  9. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2019 at 9:57 am

Bullpen was outstanding as Boch used 6 relievers no runs no hits and just the 1 walk by Gustave followed by his game inducing DP to wipe out the Dogpile!!

Cal over Huskies in Seattle last night with last second field goal !
Great win. Bears D is the real deal, offense is Ok with good run game and Garbers a game manager. I just jumped my win total to 8…

    • snarkk said, on September 8, 2019 at 12:43 pm

Wilcox is a good young coach. I give him 2 more seasons after this one until he moves on to a big job. That is always the Cal problem, can’t find a good HC, but when you do, can’t keep him (except Tedford)…

      • alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2019 at 12:55 pm

So your saying Tom Holmoe was no good Snarkk lol 😂

  13. snarkk said, on September 8, 2019 at 1:01 pm

    Holmoe was great, Kat.
    For the opposition…

    • snarkk said, on September 8, 2019 at 1:22 pm

Holmoe was so bad, he almost made Buddy Teevens and Walt Harris look good…

  14. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2019 at 1:31 pm

Holmoe I played against along with Walters a couple times in Softball 🥎 Holmoe sucked so bad he struck out swinging in slow pitch softball! My whole team wolfed at him with his girly swing! Walters was just the opposite he could rake and run a single into an easy double..

  15. blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:02 pm

What bullshit. Bochy pinch hits Solano with Crawford after only one Solano at bat. No frickin’ advantage at all insofar as lefty (Urias) lefty (Craw) situation. Oh, and there’s Posey striking out again. Boch has lost it.

    • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:04 pm

Now with Belt (another lefty) replacing Slater, we have the entire core having a reunion in this game. lqtm.

  16. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:07 pm

Has Bochy pulled his personal Whipping Boy Davis yet?

      Not yet, but stay tuned.

Jimmy G just totally telegraphed that pick 6. I am starting to question if he’s the guy who most thought he was… SMH…

  18. mrsprtdude said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:28 pm

Was at the game last night. So crazy to think that we had bases loaded 1 out. Ground out another out for 1 run in the 1st. My buddy and i were bemoaning our lost chance. We never scored again and still won. A minor miracle!

    • chipower9 said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:10 pm

Brings new meaning to the old Flap saying from 2010 “We Score, We Win.” There are some Flapalooza shirts floating around with the same.

  19. blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:45 pm

Fuck. I do not want to see DRod on this team anymore.

  20. Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 2:51 pm

Oh well, for this bunch, 2 out of 3 in L.A. ain’t bad.

  21. Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:01 pm

    The Not-So-Super Sub Brandons a combined 0-4.

    • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:06 pm

I have zero clue why Bochy replaced both Solano and Slater after one at bat (especially Slater, who was one for one at that point). Worse, he replaced both with lefties, i.e., giving Urias more of an advantage. Dumb.

      • Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:14 pm

        It really is mind-boggling.

      • Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:20 pm

What a joke of a tweet this is from Baggs:

Giants loaded the lineup with right-handers for Julio Urias, who pitched two innings. Now as Kenta Maeda pitches the third, Bochy pinch hits lefties Crawford and Belt for Solano and Slater.

Bochy didn’t get to 107-107 lifetime at Dodger Stadium by giving anything away.

      • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 3:29 pm

Okay, for whatever reason, I thought Urias was still pitching, but apparently Maeda came in to pitch the 3rd inning. Regardless, why pinch hit two players, both of whom have been hitting well, with 2 core players, who have been absolute zeros at the plate (and demonstrated that during their ofers which you’ve noted). Worse, Slater had a base hit and was one for one. In my mind, he only contributed to damaging both players psyche, particularly the youngster, Slater.

Now that was a beautiful TD there…

  23. chipower9 said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:00 pm

The Niner game is a perfect example of why I have a really hard time watching NFL games. 17 penalties with 9 left in the 4th. Just NO flow in the game (true over the past couple of years). Give me college ball any day.

  24. Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:00 pm

    Golden $$$$ombrero for Longo.

    • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:39 pm

Wow! Just wow! I watched the entire game and I didn’t even notice that because I was so focused on the ineptness of DRod, Craw, and Belt. I mean how do you strike out 4 times in a game? Even Pillar, who went 0 for 4, at least hit the ball all 4 times. It’s not like we went against Koufax. Sheesh, this team is so frustrating.

  25. zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:06 pm

The old core just sucks, and that situation has to change next season. The question is if the Giants owners will eat substantial contract money. The Red Sox would do it without blinking an eye.

    • zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:08 pm

We’ve been saying it all season; I hope we’re not saying it all next season.

    • chipower9 said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:10 pm

Needs to happen and I’ll believe it when I see it. And the thing that sucks in that regards is that Charles Johnson is the richest MoFo in all of baseball.

      • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:49 pm

That’s why he’s the richest owner (SOB probably still has the 1st nickle he ever made).

  26. zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:09 pm

I hope the Niners don’t lose to Winston the rapist.

  27. zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:11 pm

The Baggs tweet is baloney and just shows how easy Bochy had it with the media in SF. Did he ever get asked a pointed or rough question in all his years here?

    • blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:42 pm

Yeah, I can’t recall any one in the SF media ever grilling him, much less anyone on this team. Wasn’t Baggs in some kind of brouhaha with a player and he got the cold shoulder treatment by the entire team and eventually went to The Athletic (or whatever it’s called)?

We need some East coast guys from Boston and NY writing about this team.

  28. chipower9 said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:19 pm

Boom! Witherspoon having a nice day for the Niners.

  29. blade3colorado said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:35 pm

I’m glad the Bums weren’t able to celebrate their inevitable Division crown in front of us. That’l probably come in Baltimore.

The team was flat today and I think Bochy played a major part in what happened today. Just my take, but he could have had a winning record in LA . . . instead, he’s under .500, at 107-108. Now we go home, where we have a worst record than we do on the road. I am flabbergasted about that. Hopefully, Bum can start things off right, especially after his last putrid start in St. Louis.

Please Bochy shut down the core and let the kids play. I must be dreamin’ . . . as that’s not going to happen.

  30. zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:45 pm

The core was 2 for 13 today, with two singles and 6 Ks. They suck and they’re no fun to watch. They have a good moment once in a while, but nothing sustains.

  31. zumiee said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:49 pm

That’s just flat-out wrong of Bochy to start two younger guys and pull them after one AB. Baggs is full of crappola on that.

    • Macdog said, on September 8, 2019 at 4:53 pm

I rarely tweet anything, but I couldn’t help but respond to that one by Baggs.

Saw none of the Giants game but got the pings for the home runs. Niner game was ugly as fuck but a win is a win is a road win.

Garropol had a bad start but looked a little better as the game went on. We had 3 TDs called back by penalty. WAAAAAY too many penalties.

    • chipower9 said, on September 8, 2019 at 7:42 pm

That game was fucking unwatchable because of all the penalties. But then that seems to be the new NFL. But I’ll take that ugly-ass road win to start the season…
