A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Turning The Page? More Like Finishing The Book….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 30, 2019

I was definitely caught off guard by the Bochy farewell party. I was glad to just be listening on the radio as I drove around doing errands. I was already tearing up like a girl, it would have been worse had I been watching it.

We had quite a ride, that 3 in 5. Each year truly had its own magic. The only real constant was Boch and his staff. I’ve accepted I might not see another SF World Series title in my lifetime. And that’s ok. Living in the Bay Area, I have been blessed with more championships than I deserved.

And now it’s on to the post season–it is stacked with teams I like and/or riveting story lines. I remember the nervous excitement I felt in the Fall of 2010 as everything was beginning. Me and my buddies were growing beards and dying our hair black. Man, seems like just yesterday.

Don’t tell me that was off the cuff. It was classic Bochy – way more prepared than people think or give him credit for, direct and from the heart. Delivering a well rehearsed speech is a lost art and Bochy knocked it out of the park imo.

Yeah Bochy nailed that speech even I was tearing up.
What was amazing was he had no script are cue cards it came from the heart and he knocked it out of the ballpark!!

I just watched it, yep, great speech by Bochy, class act all the way, thanking everyone from Murph to Amy G. As someone mentioned yesterday, the next manager will have massive shoes to fill — or in this case, a massive cap.

    Very well said.

All the Bochy love led me to take a look at his player stats. Not only was he a 2.3 WAR player but coming in at #10 on the Similar Batters list is Hector Sanchez. How about that!?!

I thought Boch did an awesome job with his speech. I will
never forget what he and Sabes did for the Giants and San Francisco.

Anybody no why Matt Cain wasn’t there?
Prior commitment? On vacation will family?
Same with Jonathan Sanchez as well..
And no Conner Joe from Kokomo?

    • zumiee said, on September 30, 2019 at 2:17 pm

I read online that Cain had a family trip going on. And that he had met with Bochy a few weeks ago to wish him well.

      • snarkk said, on September 30, 2019 at 6:17 pm

Cain has never been a big fan favorite, and his media relationship was luke warm, to put it mildly. The guy knew Bochy was going to have a big deal, months in advance. He couldn’t make it because of a family trip? Gimme a break…

Zito got a very positive response from the crowd. I don’t think his comment about the 2010 playoffs is going to stick with the vast majority of fans. It’s all forgiven.

Huff got a very positive response from the crowd. None of his previous comments caused an issue with the crowd.

Wilson got a very positive response. No one cares anymore about the weird moment he had with Larry Baer.

I wonder if Marichal and Cepeda looked at each other like “why are we here?” The Giants bring out the old Hall of Famers for every major event, like window dressing. No Perry again. He’s never at anything. Maybe he just feels like “why should I be there?” Valid question.

Brad Ausmus was fired from the Angels after one season (ouch.) Maddon appears to be the front-runner for that job.

Kapler and the Mets guy made it through Monday. I’m surprised.

It would’ve made more sense inviting me than Vinnie Chulk…

Brad Ausmus said this about Bruce Bochy on :A Toast to Boch..(When they went out once for sushi)
“He once tried to dip Tuna Sashimi into his I phone!
    No really this happened.
    Ausmus explanation for why?
Because the I phone looked just like soy sauce.
To this day it’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life! Enjoy your Retirement..

I guess making million playing a game and being a goofball allows this kind of behavior.

Pence is an all-time Giant, for sure.
But, this thing with the missus and the internet, it’s just over-the-top weird, IMHO.
I assume this makes the missus happy, and keeps her busy?
If they aren’t making money off of it, then I really don’t get it…

Yeah she’s such a bubble head i don’t see the attraction are anything she says are does that warrants attention..

Kudos, Flav, for another season well done. Getting to know and meet you guys has been pretty fucking cool. I’d imagine these don’t get easy when the team is struggling and dropping down the standings.

Thanks again for getting all this going and keeping it going through a season of Crawford at leadoff and Posey batting cleanup!

Newsom signed into law today a CA bill that requires the NCAA to allow athletes in CA colleges to be able to make money on the usage of their own likenesses. This is big. NCAA threatening to stop having national and regional championships in CA. That won’t work. Other states are following suit. The NCAA is finally going to have the gravy train cut. This will be good not only for football and baseketball stars, but smaller sports where kids only get a 1/2 or 1/4 scholarship. Local businesses can pay these kids for promo opportunities for a few hundred bucks a pop, and that will be huge for some of these kids. Now, the NCAA refuses to allow these kids to even make pizza money, else they are booted from programs as violating amateur status. Meanwhile, Coach K and his ilk are making millions. This is very big, the start of something that won’t be stopped…

Well, the unionizing thing in Wisconsin never panned out, but more and more things like this are going to come up

Players have been suspended for taking too much food at buffets. While these schools rake in the billions.

Kind of reminds me of something else . . .

    • djloo27 said, on October 1, 2019 at 4:06 am

      Reminds you of what?
      How fat Crawford is?

  24. unca_chuck said, on October 1, 2019 at 7:21 pm

Come on. You can do it.

Good to see Pom Pom Pom Pom Pomeranz doing his bit to thwart the Nats.

  25. alleykat69 said, on October 1, 2019 at 7:29 pm

Yeah the Nats have been cursed ever since Matt Williams managed them…
