These Guys Were Terrible
Ok, so that wasn’t boring. In fact, that was one of the most exciting baseball games I’ve seen in years. But take a look at these ALCS stats:
Sure, Le-Mah and Altuve gave us at bats we’ll never forget (not to mention Brantley’s “Pence on the Fence” moment). But the rest of this series was just a parade of chumps striking out. That’s boring.
MLBTR has poll going on who wins it all—so far votes 62% Stros 38% Nats. Nats at least have been able to rest players before Tuesday Game 1. Is this a benefit or not?
As for low averages, pitching is good to excellent this time of year; no one that’s gotten this far is throwing Beede or Suarez types out there. Mighty Dodgers had a few guys that did very little during their 5 games of post season play, including Cody Bellinger. That’s not uncommon and one bad series vs. elites shouldn’t be referendum on overall value, though lot of fans definitely take that view. Francesca clip was great–Altuve vs. Cano.
it’s not just the averages. Are you watching the games? It’s the way they’re going down. No adjustments with 2 strikes. Constantly just waving away at balls they have no chance of making contact with. It’s embarrassing for them, really.
No I’m not watching the games and I respect your take since you are full into it. Still think it’s unfair to castigate guys who have put together good seasons over 6 months for looking awful for a week, vs. better class of pitching. G Cole makes lot of guys who are pretty good hitters look bad. It’s what elite pitching does, and always has, even to HOFers
It is a trip in all major sports, how success or failure in postseason sets a tone in fans minds of player’s value, or lack of same.
The post season is really all that matters, if you get there.
Judge agrees…

Willie, only 7 of those whiffs are attributable to Cole. Yankees were rung up 64 times, with Sanchez leading the parade with 12 Ks and Encarnacion (11), Judge (10), and Gardner (10) closely “flailing” behind . . . umm, following.
Let’s be frank – only LeMahieu and Torres seemed to have a plan during each of their at bats. The other guys? Not so much.
exactly. These fucking guys head up there with zero plan, turn on the helicopter propeller to high, quickly head back to dugout. It’s stupid.
Well the Yanks did have 10 hits yesterday in 35 ABs, plus 4 walks. Of the 10 2 doubles 2 bombs, so numbers look pretty good. Granted couple guys accounted for most of it as what happened with Stros. And I understand there are guys who are getting worked over at the plate as I’m following along late game and seeing twitter comments.
And like them or not, walks sure did matter. What seems to have been an issue for Yanks in series was RISP hitting. 1-6 yesterday and iirc 0-13 in games before that like Greinke game.
Yes Flav you are right–postseason does matter quite a bit, and I’m sure Yanks fans like Dodgers have pretty strong opinions about players/mgrs./FO right now.
The starting rotations of the 2 WS teams might make baseball almost recognizable again…
Aaron Rodgers rolling again. Might have gotten away with TD pass end of first half, but the last one guy clearly stepped out about Raiders 4. Weird so much better weather there than in DC.
And Rodgers walks in untouched 28-10 GB.
Altuve is even shorter then Rudy!
But like Rudy you can’t measure a players heart and will to compete over others supposedly more talented..
watching the Ravens -Seahawks game there was a Ford tough commercial with Eric Burdon and Animals version of John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom song playing. Man, I had that LP, and it was great. That was fun funky band with the organ by Alan Price iirc.
An ugly Niner game vs. Wash. in the rain, but they got the job done. A 6-0 start. Hard to sneeze at that.
I’m like several Flappers, though, that just aren’t feeling the NFL lately.
Most sites are not mentioning the cause of 52 year old umpire Eric Cooper’s death, but he died of a blood clot (heart attack) a couple of weeks after surgery. This will bring back memories of umpire Wally Bell’s death during the 2013 postseason. Like Cooper, The 48 year old Bell had just officiated a Division Series nary two weeks prior to his own fatal heart attack.
Quite frankly, MLB needs to either get these umpires in shape or go to a robot system. I feel bad for Cooper, especially his family. However, when you look like this, you shouldn’t be doing anything close to MLB umpiring. It’s practically criminal what MLB is doing, letting some of these guys on the field.
Sad story.
Baseball needs a complete overhaul of its concept of umpiring, which would include the use of electronics.
People don’t know what to make of Chapman’s facial expression after the Altuve HR.

Amused by the absurd cruelty of baseball?
I say yes. He gave up the 3 run shot to rajah Davis of the Indians in the WS in 16. Cubs won anyway, but last 2 clinching situations he has failed…
I think it just hit Chapman what a dumbfuck move it was to pitch to Altuve when the no-hitting Marisnik was sitting in the on deck circle…..
Eagles stink. Another team that gives their QB like 1 second before the walls crash down. Niners won an ugly game, but the key is they put another W in the bank.
The Niner defense is for real. Garoppolo still makes 1 or 2 dumb throws a game, but really, we don’t have Taylor, Hurd, and Deebo, and Goodwin missed time today. Bourne actually had a solid game, and Rick James had a couple nice plays but no one mistakes them for low 2s.
Once we get the line back healthy, and Juczcyasxyz, we should really start to roll. Just in time for Seattle in 3 weeks. AZ is actually starting to play pretty well, amd playing in Phoenix is always a challenge, so that game is gonna be tough as well.
Yeah, Cards have won 3 straight. But trust me on this: The Giants are fucking, fucking, fucking awful. Can’t block. Can’t tackle. And their coach is a goddamn uninspiring, clueless idiot.
Juczcyasxyz? And I thought Yaz had it bad…
Is that really his name?
I challenge anyone to spell the last name of Duke’s basketball coach without cheating…
Mike
Without the silent Z, Yastrzemski would be a breeze to spell…
#looteaches
Juczcyasxyz could certainly just become Yas…
Does his name actually end with xyz? That’s pretty amusing.
No, Chucky’s toying with us. I looked it up.
It’s just Juszczyk…
Poor Charlie, he was just posting a thoughtful analysis of the Niners, and we’ve turned into a silly pack of children amused by a shiny new name….
Hah! Justcuz? Yeah, just a guess on the name. xyz would be pretty cool though.
I just call him juicy fruit 🍉 🍓🍒🍇I added fruit cause I wanted to be politically correct..
