Who Are These Guys?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 24, 2019

Gotta give Tom Tolbert credit. Before the first wild card game even started he was saying the bet was Washington to win it all. I forget what the odds were that day, like 16-1 something like that? Anyway, he’s likely got a nice payday coming his way.

Of course, they still have to close the deal. And while Houston has better players across the board we know that anything can happen in baseball with a small sample size. But with their backs against the wall we’re talking about a team that hasn’t had to grip the bat tight all season. That is a LOT of pressure on the Astros to manage.

If the Nats pull this off history will look back on it as one of the greatest over-achievements of all time. They lose their star hair flipper, they start the season in the tank and look dead.
Then they pick up Parra from the Giants and it’s been a straight up trajectory since then.

It’s Parra and that little damm blue shark they attach to the railing that’s doing it all, teams are superstitious and this little thing is their good luck charm! Maybe the Stros should jettison Verlander he’s obviously not a good luck charm now 0-5 as a W/S starter. The curse of “The Panda “ was to much for him to overcome…

  2. chipower9 said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:22 am

Yep. All us Giants fans knew that their acquisition of Parra would put them over the top.

Wonder how Harper feels about all of this, now. LMAO…

Nats continue to rake and it doesn’t seem to phase them who is pitching. Didn’t realize how good an offense they had this year–scored 100 more runs and were second in NL for OPS. 10 different guys hit 10 or more HRs and part timers Kendrick and Suzuki had 17 each.
Rendon kicked OPS up100 points over 2018 to just over 1.000.

Zum, yes Luke Walton regime sure got off to bad start losing by 29 to Suns team that won 19 games last year. They are better with Rubio at point but Kings looked disoriented what I saw, lot of turnovers and poor shooting outside Hield. They get Blazers next and Portland has to be pissed shooting very poorly at home (7-28 from 3) in losing to Denver.

Always liked Pop in San Antonio and his team this year has decided west coast feel to it. Dejounte Murray from U of Washington, Derrick White from Colorado, Patty Mills from St. Mary’s, Dermar DeRozan from SC along with bench guy Chimezi Metu, Jacob Poeltl from Utah and ex Warrior Marco Belinelli.
Um NBA West is gonna be tough as GS likely to find out starting tonite.

Where is our Juan Soto??? I am calling him Grandbaby Bull….

  5. willedav said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:57 am

Mgr openings starting to shrink. MLBR says Pads will hire Jayce Tingler (huh?) Cubs will hire David Ross and Phils will bring in Girardi. Lot of mets fans really pissed they didn’t get Girardi. Wonder what NY take is on him? Only negative I’ve seen is Girardi should have won more titles than 1 with all the teams he had. Phils in tough division though ain’t gonna be easy to get past Nats Braves Mets.

  6. alleykat69 said, on October 24, 2019 at 10:10 am

Jayce Tingler?? Is he a porn star?
Zman would get roasted by the Flap if he hired a nobody like that to follow Bochy’s legacy..

Happy Birthday, Dirt (Micah). Hope your day is amazing.

  8. chipower9 said, on October 24, 2019 at 10:20 am

And a Happy Birthday to Mac, too! Hope your day kicks-ass, Mac. Party like it’s 1999.

Anyone named “Jayce Tingler” has absolutely zero chance of succeeding at the mlb level……

    • chipower9 said, on October 24, 2019 at 11:02 am

      LMAO…leave it to the Padres…

      “The Tingler” Great stuff Chuck!
Some of the best screams ever!
Yeah I was a big Creature Features fan with Bob Wilkins and his signature Cigar just made the show perfect 👌 Wonder if the Padres fans are screaming 😱 right now with their “Who the hell is Tingler?”

Thanks Chi! And a happy B-Day to Dirt! This was one of the more memorable ones . . . .

Doh! This is what you get when you empower white trash.

Yes, only transsexuals deserve to be empowered!

    This is too funny.

This is classic and yes, hilarious. Thanks for sharing. By the by, at the end, there are numerous windows which show up and you can see Ellen Degeneres’s first Tonight appearance. I still remember that particular show. She was very funny too.

If I’m a Padre player I’m thinking I’m not getting a tingling feeling about this manager choice..

My power is off too Chi—at least until Saturday at 6 pm. That means I got the rest of today and tomorrow off, but hard to enjoy it with no power, internet, or even cell service at home. For now I’m in town running some errands.
Reports down here make it sound like this French Tickler dude is a good hire for the Pads.
Love what the Nats are doing so far. I don’t but the “they never could have done this with Harper” narrative—that Flav is maybe pushing and some of the talking heads seem to be advancing as well. I don’t care how great of a dude Parra is, when you bring him in for Harper your team just got way worse in my book.
Some great guys to watch hit in this series–Rendon, Brantley, Soto, Kendrick, Altuve—just to name a few.
Bregman struggling doesn’t bother me. I find Bryce more likable than him.
Never really closely watched a game at Minute Maid before. Kind of a trip with balls banging off walls 40 feet above the last row the bleachers. Sort of enjoying the novelty, but yes it does feel like a softball game at times.

    • chipower9 said, on October 24, 2019 at 1:26 pm

Good luck with your power situation, SanD. I am fortunate that I bought a little (3,000 watt) Honda generator to use with my trailer a couple years back. I have snaked an extension cord into the house, and we are able to run the fridge, a couple of lights, the TV, and of course, the coffee maker. But it still sucks.

No hot water, as our propane tankless hot water heater needs an electrical spark to light the igniter. Just a royal pain in the ass, but we are certainly better of than many others. But we do sneak out to the trailer and do a shower there (as that system is electric or propane). Trying to be gracious while also being pissed at PG&E.

      Anyway, good luck my friend.

    • Flavor said, on October 24, 2019 at 2:11 pm

Doubt it’s a coincidence that harper-led teams always lost in the post season, they get rid of him and they thrive. Also, Phillies stunk this year. Can’t prove any of this obviously but to me all you gotta do is look at Harper to see he’s a doosh and that dooshy-me first attitude is not a team friendly quality.

  17. zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 2:46 pm

Not only did the Kings lose by 29 last night, they also had injuries to some key players. It was literally a beat-down on them last night.
I think the Kings had been reading some of the off-season accolades they were getting, and they lost the concept of having to actually get it done on the basketball court. You can’t win by showing the other team the good media articles you’re getting.

    • Flavor said, on October 24, 2019 at 2:49 pm

Bagley now out for 6 weeks, that’s big.

      • zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 3:51 pm

It basically wrecks their season after one game. As has been mentioned, the Western conference is just so good, there is small room for error.

  18. zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 3:55 pm

So there’s an ump that said he’s going to buy an assault rifle and start shooting people. How does he not get fired for saying this?

    • blade3colorado said, on October 24, 2019 at 4:06 pm

Astros – correct decision in firing Taubman. MLB – As you suggested Zumiee, how is this guy still employed? Equally important, the FBI should monitor this (apparently) mentally ill individual to ensure he doesn’t go postal on the community.

      • zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 4:12 pm

Wow- I hadn’t heard they fired Taubman! Great to see the Astros do the right thing!

  19. zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 3:58 pm

“Yes, only transsexuals deserve to be empowered!”

All they’ve ever asked for is equal rights. That’s it. The Declaration of Independence says we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

What demands have white trash ever made?

      • djloo27 said, on October 24, 2019 at 6:11 pm

I don’t know, Zum. Maybe as always, it’s best we just drop it.
“White trash” is a very broad category subject to interpretation.
I think those are “rednecks” in your photo…

  20. zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 4:03 pm

Currently listening to George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” album. What a great album. One of the best of the Beatle solo albums, and maybe the best. It would be a close contest, for me, between this one and John’s first solo album.

  21. alleykat69 said, on October 24, 2019 at 4:44 pm

Should of canned this idiot Taubman immediately instead of dragging it out and denying the facts, visibly showing his immaturity and verbal abuse yelling directly at these woman.Astro ownership looking like fools and this mess had to have an affect on how Houston has played in the Series imo..

  22. wilcojoe said, on October 24, 2019 at 4:50 pm

I’ve been trading text messages with a beat writer for a professional sports team (not the Astros) that I went to college with. He is pretty close to the situation with the Astros. This whole fiasco in Houston is laughable and really a shame for the players and coaches. Lines may be drawn in the sand and players may end up speaking out against the front office as soon as the season ends. This is going to get very interesting.

Zumiee, or anyone else who enjoys movies – I watched Blindspotting last night on my PC and was really impressed with this film for a number of reasons, e.g., serious subject matter, racism/race relations, as well as communities facing gentrification. In fact, I was shocked to learn that certain parts of Oakland are being gentrified. Additionally, I really liked the movie because of the screenplay and was surprised to find out that the two stars of the film, Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, wrote it over a period of 8 or 9 years. In any event, if you get a chance Zum, go see it.

    • zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 5:59 pm

I’ll look for it on NetFlix!

  24. alleykat69 said, on October 24, 2019 at 6:35 pm

Astros GM Jeff Lundhow was asked if he personally have reached out to Stephanie A to apologize over the incident…No as you can see I’ve been alittle busy of late.. Stephanie was in the room when he said that..

    • Flavor said, on October 24, 2019 at 7:32 pm

This will be a mistake. The game has passed him by. Also, I hope he gives back all those presents if he comes back. This is lame.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 24, 2019 at 7:40 pm

Bochy is 64 (I’m 63 and feelin’ my age), the game has indeed pretty much passed him by, and he’s going to take a year off, and then maybe come back at around age 66? For the love of the game, I guess, but other than that, can’t imagine why he would even want to think about it. Enjoy your retirement, big headed dude…

  25. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 24, 2019 at 7:43 pm

Rednecks, white trash, hillbillies… there’s a great scene near the end of season 1 of Ozark when Darlene blows the head off a cartel dude because he called her a redneck. “I ain’t no redneck!”, BAM. She much preferred being called a hillbilly. I’ve never seen official definitions distinguishing between these three concepts, but I’m guessing there’s a difference…..

    • Flavor said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:11 pm

yeah, she overreacted a tad there, right? Really looking forward to the next season of that show.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:38 pm

Yes, just a tad. I just finished binging season 2 again in prep for the new season (though don’t know when it will come out)…

  26. djloo27 said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:13 pm

So many people just don’t know when it’s time to get out and stay out.
    And not just in sports.
    Give a younger person a chance…

    • unca_chuck said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:32 pm

Right. There’s a front office lackey being held back from getting marching orders from the boss.

    • alleykat69 said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:36 pm

Yeah I’m thinking a 82 year old pitching coach,Mets Phil Regan might want to give up that job to someone younger, maybe an 80 year old dude?

    • zumiee said, on October 24, 2019 at 8:40 pm

I’m thinking of 86 year old Diane Feinstein.
