Power Outage?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 27, 2019

Somehow we’ve been able to dodge the PG&E shutoffs. But just looking at this I’m skeptical that I’ll get to see the Niner game today (or the baseball game)

Screenshot 2019-10-27 at 9.14.26 AM

Here’s what I don’t get: why doesn’t PG&E just put the lines underground in the windiest spots? Keeping them above ground nailed into basically wood stakes seems like such an antiquated process that is just inviting a nightmare scenario.

What am I missing here? It would save them $$$ in the long run, prevent wildfires, it’s all good, right?

Yeah tell me about it, I’ve been out of power in San Carlos since 8:30 last night! I’m making coffee on my bbq with my metal camping coffee percolater..Lol
Power better be on later for football are heads will roll at PGE!! Hate to have to toss stuff from fridge!!

If the power goes out here, fuck them. We haven’t had a breath of breeze during this entire *crisis*

Even mayor of San Jose brought up idea of local cities getting together and taking over utilities from PGE.
These guys are messed up in so many ways.
Sorry to see Kings play so badly. Losing Bagley again sucks he is fun to watch. Gotta wonder if Walton can get who he has to play better, including Fox and bench guys. West is gonna be tough fight for 8 spots.

Still don’t get idea of NFL in England. The Raiders gave up a home game to play there. Why would anyone sacrifice that, a home game in your backyard to go all the way back and forth to UK?

    • unca_chuck said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:39 pm

That really sucks for Oakland fans as their team is gone soon.

Ok,went on a run, wind kicked up a bit. But come on this is fucking wind. Have a plan other than shutting everything off. Put the lines underground in the highest risk areas. This is a basic idea

Good. Hiring him would have been a mistake. At some point this guy might want to give up.

My cousins had to evacuate due to a fire in Sonoma (not certain which fire) and another cousin, whom lives in San Carlos like AK, is without power. Her family is looking at it like luxury camping per her FB post. Worried about my mom in Sunnyvale and hope they do not extend the outage to that area.

I have zero beef with Bochy coming back to manage any team should he choose to do so. I have no idea why some fans think this is a big deal. Not once did he ask for the so called “fare well” tour, which is totally in character of his low key manner. I think the only reason that he announced his retirement in spring training (or was it before that?), was because he respected the regime change of Mr. Z and didn’t want to rock the boat so to speak for Mr. Z hiring his own personnel. In any event, I think he deserves an opportunity to get his win/loss record above .500 with another club. I wish him only the best going forward!

Sacramento owns its own public utility SMUD.
No shareholders, no profit motive, the motive is to provide power efficiently and at least cost.
SMUD rates are consistently more than 30% below PG&E.
The state should take over PG&E, buy it out. Then let local metro areas buy the equipment off the state and let them run it, like SMUD. PGE management has been a disaster for years, propped up by the PUC, which has done nothing but rubber stamp PG&E mismanagement. This wholesale cutting off of electricity is a mess. No public hearings of any import, no public plans or input; somebody just decides lets turn the lights off for days at a time, and the public has to scramble to figure it out. It’s insane…

Don’t look now (I barely can) but Warriors are down 29 right before halftime to OKC. ouch being severely outplayed at both ends.

  10. zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:40 pm

The Kings wanted to be as good as the Warriors, but this isn’t what they meant.

    • willedav said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:52 pm

Warriors down 70-37 at half. unwatchable

  11. unca_chuck said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:41 pm

It’s blowing about 60 on our hill in the Creek. Lost half of a 150 year old oak tree. Got one of the last chainsaws at Home Depot this morning.

  12. unca_chuck said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:45 pm

Flav, near where we live the power lines are underground. I think that is why we haven’t been shut off.

  13. zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 1:45 pm

“Scherzer scratched for Game 5 with back spasms, Joe Ross starting.”

the awesome screen pass strikes again TD 49ers as Lon Simmons used to say.

  15. willedav said, on October 27, 2019 at 2:21 pm

    whoa Coleman is dominating.

  16. Bozo said, on October 27, 2019 at 3:02 pm

    Stay safe out there y’all.
Even here where we get a a few hurricanes a year (these days), some of the main lines are still on poles, so we’ll lose power when we get a string of them snap, but we don’t get the massive fires from it.
So my bitch is minor compared to what all of you are going through, but dammit, the 9ers are playing the Panthers and Fox isn’t showing the game back here in NC.
Again, a minor beef to the evacuations and fires a blaze, your neighborhoods.

    • Macdog said, on October 27, 2019 at 3:48 pm

You’re in the Panthers’ home state and still can’t get the game? That’s fucked up.

    “Chandler Rome
    @Chandler_Rome
Astros bench coach Joe Espada said he will go back to San Francisco following Houston’s run in the World Series for a second interview for the Giants’ managerial opening.”

  18. zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 3:45 pm

    From another sportswriter:
“in Espada’s three years as a coach under Girardi, he saw how much more sophisticated the analytics became and how the Yankees’ front office pushed for them to be integrated. In two years with the Astros, he has worked for perhaps the smartest baseball operations department in the industry. Yet he also has witnessed the importance of a manager sharing all of that data with his players, collaborating with his bosses yet still standing on his own so his roster doesn’t view him as a puppet.

“I think players want to know that you have their backs,” Espada said. “That information is important, but relationships and building trust among coach and player … players want to know that you’re doing what’s best for them. That you are on their side. But also, they understand that as a manager, you are an extension of the front office. We’re all working on the same branch, if you will. I think that’s something that I saw in New York and especially here with A.J.””

This Bosa guy is pretty good.

    • Flavor said, on October 27, 2019 at 4:44 pm

he’s been great. I was wrong about him.

  21. willedav said, on October 27, 2019 at 4:08 pm

hella play by Deshaun Watson there, TD pass to give Texans lead after he is almost down and hit in the face.

  22. alleykat69 said, on October 27, 2019 at 4:44 pm

3sacks and a pick that should of been a score, yeah Nick Bosa is the real deal! Already a lock for ROY and in the hunt for Defensive player of the year, not bad for a 22 year old who’s only going to get better..

  23. willedav said, on October 27, 2019 at 5:45 pm

Alvarez raises BA .220 in postseason. Twitter guy said his first bomb since Sept. 21
Nats coming right back vs. Cole though.

    • willedav said, on October 27, 2019 at 5:49 pm

  24. unca_chuck said, on October 27, 2019 at 5:49 pm

  25. zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 6:49 pm

The baton always gets passed eventually. The baton has passed to the Niners. They are the “it” team in the Bay Area now.

  26. zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 7:06 pm

Parra became some kind of fan favorite in Washington somehow. Whatever. He strikes out and sits down.

  27. snarkk said, on October 27, 2019 at 7:33 pm

    Nats fans have good judgment.
They greeted Drumpf with sustained boos and chants of “lock him up”…

    • zumiee said, on October 27, 2019 at 7:39 pm

      Highlight of the game.

  28. Macdog said, on October 27, 2019 at 7:44 pm

What an outrageously bad third-strike call on Robles.
