Party Time Approacheth

Does the series end tonight? By tomorrow will we all be looking out our windows longingly waiting for Winter to end or spring to start or whatever?

Stras has been so great I would side with Washington getting it done tonight but I’ve been wrong about almost every one of these games so maybe that means the Astros are about to go *2 in 3*

Hard Series to figure. Nats started off hitting well and then Stros pitching shut them down in DC. Wonder how long Stras could go? If it comes down to battle of pens Martinez doesn’t seem to have enough going for him.

Speaking of mgrs., blade had great post re: Bochy I thought. He backed out so Z could do it his way; if he still wants to be that involved at field level more power to him. So many hires these days have zero experience even in minors, which worked OK for Cora but often as not is a fail. Given right team and I’m not sure who that is, still think Bochy could out manage lot of guys out there.

Talked to lady yesterday who lives off Hwy 17 Summit Rd and had lost power over weekend. She had been at Niners game Sunday and told me Santa Clara IS a city that has control of its own power, so nothing at Levi’s had been disrupted. hmmnn

Well, as mentioned at the start of the series, above all else, I hoped to see some good baseball, some suspense, and seven games…leaning ever so slightly to the Nats (Expos connection and the Rick Monday fiasco, Nats never winning one, AND them being the representative of the Senior Circuit).

Hoping the Nats extend it tonight, but if Houston wins it all, no biggie here, as there are several players on the Stros that I admire.

On a separate note, about a week ago or so, the latest super bowl odds came out, and Niners had crept up to 10-1. I was really wanting to get up to one of the sport books and lay a hundy on the Niners. Just checked current odds…Niners now at 7-1. Fucking another swing-and-miss by me. May still jump on the Niners 1t 7-1 with a $100 spot.

Fucking 33-1 to start the season. I made a bunch back in 81. Bought an old land cruiser with the winnings.

Funny I’ve been an assistant a lot of times coaching b-ball, and bench coach seems like similar type of gig. You have none of the pressure and can still be closer to players. You aren’t one deciding when to take a pitcher out, summoning pinch hitters, making defensive or double switches. Sure you can think to yourself I might have done something different but being in the moment and making something happen right now is different.

No one was asking Nats bench coach why they didn’t hit for Sanchez the other night or any time a move backfires. You also aren’t the one to deliver the bad news 1 on 1 in your office when someone gets released demoted or traded, or disciplined for something stupid.

OSF is correct in saying this will be the new normal for PGE and California residents for years to come, insofar as outages are concerned (I read at least the next 10 years). Listening in on CNBC a few minutes ago and from a business standpoint, PGE is practically bankrupt (90% decrease in stock price), coupled with numerous lawsuits still unresolved.

Consequently, the ideal situation in my opinion is for a combination of CA government takeover and a big pockets investor, e.g., Soros or Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffett). In fact, I think I read or heard somewhere that Gov. Newsom broached the subject with Buffett. I do know that back in April, Buffett said “no way” would he invest in the utility when asked about it.

Regarding CA government bailing out the utility, I don’t think that’s the best way either, i.e., tax payers will be soaked in significant new taxes. In short, this is a terrible situation with no easy answers.

You have to believe that when PG&E says this will be the norm for the next 10 years or so, that this is indeed the case. I have a small generator that I bought for times when we might be dry camping with my trailer, and it runs the fridge, coffee maker, TV and a few lights.

I just ordered a large 12,500 watt dual-fuel generator (gas or propane). Will have a transfer switch (secondary electrical panel) installed that I can plug the generator directly into, and this will power the entire house. Also going to have a new line plumbed-in from m propane source that I can plug the generator directly into. As long as there is propane in my main tank, we’ll have full power, and PG&E can go fuck themselves.

This whole thing is happening because over the past couple of decades, instead of reinvesting in their infrastructure, and putting power lines underground, etc. PG&E has instead paid-out handsome dividends to their shareholders, and also big bonuses to their management team. Fuck PG&E…they brought this shit on themselves because of their greed and short-sightedness.

You’re spot on Chi. I think individuals resolving the problem like you are doing is the answer. Question – is wind power or solar an option at your house? I included wind power because there are quite a few individual homes that have used this to address their personal home needs. It seems like solar power, especially in California would be viable.

Regarding a company for profit company such as PGE – please tell me when having a for-profit corporation in charge of a necessary public service (utilities, hospitals, schools) has served the people well? The conflict of serving shareholder profits seems to undermine the public good/concern we expect from these companies (as you alluded to above).

      • chipower9 said, on October 29, 2019 at 11:36 am

We looked into solar. Our home is a “manufactured home.” I call it our “double-wide.” 😉 Many places have an issue with putting solar panels on these without also replacing the roof. We could go with the ground-based panels, but with the cost, and our age, we just don’t see it as a good ROI. When PG&E’s power is available, we are happy with it, and the overall costs.

This plan of mine (new generator at about $1200, and transfer switch installed at about $800-900, and then maybe a couple hundred to plumb the new propane line) will cost a little over $2000, and we’ll be able to make it through the frustrations of the outages.

I agree with you about the concerns of having a for-profit business (PG&E) providing a necessary public utility service. It sure as fuck isn’t working out for folks like me, right now. Again, fuck PG&E.

      • Bozo said, on October 29, 2019 at 6:05 pm

Chi, if you want to save the grand on the transfer switch, all you have to do is turn off the main on your box, plug your generator into your clothes dryer plug and run whatever you want power from the switches in your box just like you would with the transfer switch. Just remember to turn off the main so you don’t blow some poor PGE sap off the pole (if they still send crews out). Let me know what you think about the dual generator, I’ve been thinking about getting one of those. Stay safe out there, buddy.

PG&E’s negligence of their aging equipment is criminal. One thing I miss about Roseville was being on Roseville electric. They were nearly 1/2 as much as PGE. I might have to look into solar as well if we are gonna stay in WC for a few more years.

If I’m Kyle Shanahan, I sit Garoppolo, Sanders, Goodwin, Coleman, Bosa, Alexander, Ford, and Sherman.

Pull an NBA trick and sit your starters for the Thursday game. These Thursday games are sofa king stupid. They put players at risk and i usually forget they are on anyway. I mean, I won’t this week, but most of the time it;s like, oh yeah, there’s some shitty thursday game with the ugly uniforms.

Hey everyone. I haven’t really been watching any of the WS. Just if it’s on when I’m at dinner or something. It would be cool to see the Nats win one, just for some new blood and not a detestable group of people that I sports hate.

Re: power struggles, we are fortunate that we aren’t in a place with outages, and we also have solar. The problem is, even with solar you’re still on the grid, so if the power goes out your power is out too.

Del – good to see ya brother. Hope all is well for you and yours, and hope to see ya here more frequently.

2 in 3 imminent for the Stros. They were always the little team that never could quite make it. In the National league. Guess it took going to the AL for them to find their mojo.

A little Giant trivia to help you sleep:

Excluding Barry Bonds who was the last Giant to score at least 100 runs in back to back seasons?

    JT Snow?
