Fixing This Mess

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 18, 2020

So is it too extreme to look at having the dugout/catcher/pitcher communicating electronically? I don’t see any other way you could stop someone wearing a wire/buzzer. It’s an enormous advantage if you know what’s coming. There’s got to be someone smart at Apple who can devise something quick, easy and hack proof that would work. I mean, the Russians would be able to hack into it but that’s cool if it’s only them, right? How come it’s always the Russians hacking into our shit? Do we ever do it to them? How come we only hear about Russia disrupting our election/our shit? Are their hackers just better than the good ol’ USA’s? Say it ain’t so…..

Funny…..

Remember, Flavor – you only hear about the ones that get caught…

Our guys are not only good at it but they don’t typically tend to leak. We got the Iranians with I think the Stuxnet computer virus targeting their nuclear systems and was only exposed because some bastard CIA analyst leaked it to the press…talk about traitors. My understanding is that Mossad likely got to their computers and planted the virus…I’m sure if there is some type of device someone will figure out to hack it.

I’m in the camp they should strip the titles from the last two world series titles and laugh further at the Flodgers…

    • gianthead said, on January 18, 2020 at 8:09 am

So we developed the virus and Mossad carried out the operation…

Dont know if this has been discussed yet but seems Dusty Baker is the perfect manager candidate for the Red Sox, Astros or Mets but he would have to be desperate to take the Mets job. Astros and Red Sox should be fighting to get him. He does not have to do much to produce a winner and probably has that personality to get player confidence and buy in in a season that certainly will be intensely scrutinized.

    • djloo27 said, on January 18, 2020 at 8:15 am

The N.Y. Post is hyping Dusty for the Mets…

Heard T Bauer on the radio. Very intelligent and thoughtful in his discussion. He talked about it being much more than cheating the games. “Take a up and coming 3B in arbitration losing money as he is compared to a Bregman. What is Tyler Glascow worth now in his next contract because he failed in the playoffs when his team needed him most? This will cost guys money, maybe millions.”
He also mentioned.. Just like steroids there will guys on the Astros who won’t get a new contact because they will be assumed to be cheating when they weren’t. It goes on and on.

    • Flavor said, on January 18, 2020 at 9:04 am

Bauer is probably the smartest baseball player in the game today. That’s why so many guys dislike him, lol.

      • Macdog said, on January 18, 2020 at 9:10 am

Bauer didn’t appear to be very bright when he cut the pinkie on his pitching hand playing with his drone during the 2016 playoffs.

      • Flavor said, on January 18, 2020 at 9:26 am

he’s very bright. He’s thoughtful, insightful, having an accident with a drone isn’t an indication of lack of intelligence although if Huff did it I’d probably use that against him as evidence of stupidity. Because he’s the dumbest motherfucking Giant we’ve ever had. I really hope he doesn’t come back for the 10 year reunion.

well, it’s not like there are elections in Russia we could hack into. Read a fantastic book about a KGB guy who got posted to Denmark, and it opened his eyes to real world, vs the story he had been told by their propaganda machine. He started giving info to Brits and eventually defected, deciding our world was preferable to what he had grown up in. His take was in old days (Reagan era) every embassy person stationed around world by Russians was KGB, and very paranoid of US and Brit intentions..

    • gianthead said, on January 18, 2020 at 12:43 pm

Damn forgot I was going to make that same Russia comment…well done

  7. djloo27 said, on January 18, 2020 at 8:56 am

Huff’s tweet about the new coach woulda been ok if he had just left out the word female.
I can understand a ML player being skeptical about taking instructions from a softball player…

  8. willedav said, on January 18, 2020 at 9:01 am

Fiers getting more blowback. Surprised there hasn’t been more info/interviews with him, over why he waited so long to spill, etc. He did certainly benefit from getting more offense out of guys while he was pitching for Houston and as far as I’ve seen has not been remorseful about it either.
A’s use to have very difficult time with Astros, even at home, over last few seasons. I used to try and catch their games when they were here, and up til last year iirc they usually raked A’s.

Juiced balls, mass technology cheating, HOF voting a joke, game turning into nothing but walks, Ks and HRs, idiotic statements by players and management about topics from baseball to politics to women’s place in the world. After all these years of it being my favorite sport, baseball is making it hard to keep my interest…

Re Stuxnet and Russian hacking . . .

The exposure was not through a traitorous CIA analyst, that’s a Trumpian anachronism:

    https://spectrum.ieee.org/telecom/security/the-real-story-of-stuxnet
    https://www.cybersecurityintelligence.com/blog/stuxnet-virus-attack-details-emerge–4497.html
    https://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Iran/Israels-rash-behavior-blew-operation-to-sabotage-Irans-computers-US-officials-say-444970

Basically, the malware spread where it wasn’t supposed to and called attention to itself.

Much of what the Russians are doing today is a lot less sophisticated than this, and isn’t even really hacking, which is just a convenient term to cover a range of stuff they’re doing.

Stuxnet brings James to the table—I dig it!! (I’m actually more interested in StixNet myself. When are they gonna let our boy out of the hoosegow??)

Fun Fact-female coach Giants hired went to my alma mater Woodland High. Hopefully she serves the Giants better than the last Woodland HIgh grad they brought on board, Tony Torcato.

Astros deal made me mad when I first heard about it—and I do agree it is a new level of cheating and I’m glad to see some serious consequences. At this point though, I’m ready to move on and focus on the Giants and see if we have any young guys who can step up and look like contributors on a competitive team down the road.

really? Man, gotta at least keep the blog going another year. That is great news.

    • James said, on January 18, 2020 at 1:32 pm

Yeah, and here’s some token baseball:

      1. Love Zaidi, *especially* for dumping Pillar, who had the supreme good fortune to have ace gambler Flavor rooting for him, which meant he was all but destined to put up his best numbers ever.

      2. I’m fine with Gabe Kapler. Good to have another Jewish dude on staff, after Pillar’s departure. No one has mentioned the hiring of the female coach in the context of the Kapler baggage. Speaking of tokenism: “In a clubhouse poll, it was once revealed that of the 25 players on the Red Sox, 24 were Republicans and Kapler was the one Democrat.”

      3. Genuinely looking forward to the season. The unfolding of the Rotting Core narrative will alone hold my attention.

Kapler is the guy whose 2018 team won 80 games, and then in off season his GM added in Harper Segura and the best C in all baseball, Realmuto. And he won 1 more game. So yeah he was made available.
And repeated MO of previous year when his team fell apart in second half after being in first place in June and played to 9 games under .500 record over last 95 games.
At least he won’t have that problem this season. He’s going to get free pass no matter what record is since expectations will be so low.

    • James said, on January 18, 2020 at 10:13 pm

The Phillies scored a 100 more runs in 2019, which aligns with the added bats. They also gave up 70 more. I doubt either of those facts has much to do with the manager, but it does help explain why their record didn’t change much. Same old boring analysis by me, WillieD, sorry . . . .

Altuve and Bregman should continue to get pounded by the news media all season until they speak honestly about what happened.

    • zumiee said, on January 18, 2020 at 11:13 pm

The same for all the players who were on that ‘17 team.
