A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ramos

Looks like someone hasn’t skipped leg day:

He’s only 20 I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that he’s grown. He’s listed at 6’1 188 but that seems at least an inch too high and maybe 20 pounds less than what he actually weighs. Hey as long as this guy doesn’t go all “Angel Villalona” on us I guess this is a good thing, right?

The stolen base didn’t survive the analytics revolution.

mm playing RF at the O means you have lot of ground to cover too. vs. RH you are pulled over toward RCF and then have to cover the line on those bloop hits and deal with carom off archways and walls. What I’ve read on scouting reports Ramos too big for CF. Good he’s hitting in ST.

Check out these numbers on A’s AAA team in Vegas in Coast League last year. 250 bombs .902 team (and league leading) OPS and averaged 6.85 runs a game. Overall PCL league average OPS rose from .763 to .831, btw juiced ball and some elevation yards. As A’s note not easy to evaluate who can do what at ML level.

iirc analytics on the SB said you had to be 75% successful for it to be advisable.
At age 34, Henry Aaron in 1968 stole 28 bags and was caught 5 times. 2 years earlier in ’66 he stole 21 with 3 CS and before that 24/4. And in ’66 he hit 44 HRs and drove in 127. We all know Mays could have stolen more bags too but didn’t after a single that would take bat out of Mac’s hands.

Bigger issue in power game is the speed guys of today (B Ham Dyson) just don’t hit or get on base enough to create offensive value. Musical chairs of Giants OF will be interesting.

Unlike the 2 HOF card guys Flav posted above. Back in ’80s used to play a board game with friends called Statis Pro for baseball and basketball too, fun stuff. when Tim Raines got a single off his player card, he automatically stole 2b in the game, only guy like that and you couldn’t do anything about it.

Ramos looks more like a 3rd baseman to me. Doesn’t have to be fast just quick reaction times and a solid glove.

    Love Answer # 6, BF.
I’ve woken up in subway stations I didn’t know existed…

Another possible rule change that will piss off pitchers, they are experimenting with it this year in lower leagues,(MLB network with Dan Plesac was demonstrating it)but for sure will help bring back more stolen bases that I believe baseball wants to help add more excitement is:
The pitcher would have to step back his pivot foot to the back side of the rubber before throwing to1B which would give a base runner more of an advantage cause he would only have to concentrate on the feet of the pitcher if he’s committed to throw home are not.Lefty pitchers would probably be affected more by this.Plesac added it would put a lot of strain on pitchers ulnar bone 🦴 and could cause more injuries to pitchers..

Flavor= i don’t understand the Pence signing either but I do like the Sandoval signing I think he’s a great situational player who can hit off the bench.

A tad surprised that I don’t see a grand photo of Johnny Antonelli and a tribute up at the top. He was Cy Young Award material before the award existed. Likely no ring in 1954 without him. Johnny Antonelli was one of my favorites as a NY Giants fan growing up. He was a lefty, as was I. I liked his eyebrows. He was a decent pinch hitter. Rest in peace. Thanks for great memories, Johnny. You’re definitely in my scrapbook.

Didn’t mean to come off as a jerkoff. A. Thought it was oldish news. B. Who the fuck am I to tell Magnus Flavoris how to run the UNIMPEACHABLE, singular, grand, feisty, fuckwaddish, fun, opinionated, loyal Flap?

Fleming is doing St. Mary’s Zags game. He does pretty good job at college b-ball. Lot of tremendous action today a week before conference tourneys. Rough trip to LA for AZ schools who have lost 3 of 4 so far as USC sweeps AZ and ASU. today SC led by senior G Jonah Mathews from Santa Monica, younger brother of Jordan who finished career at Gonzaga and son of Philip who coached USF.

Flav – I’m digging your response to #6. It’s good to have goals.

Celtics turn an intentionally missed free throw into a 3-pointer to send it to overtime.

    • zumiee said, on February 29, 2020 at 8:17 pm

Then lose by 1 in overtime.

Ha that train ride home from flap game took forever. we hustled out of the yard to get to 10:30 train out, waited while it loaded, then there was another long delay while we sat about 10 minutes later. Hour and a half I’d say to get from SF to Flav’s stop, little longer to get to mine.

Knicks Hawks and Warriors all win on same night. If nothing else GS has learned Eric Paschall of Nova is a keeper as future at power forward.

Sitting in the upper level at the Giants ballpark, you see barges arriving in the Bay, probably mostly from China. How is that going to work in the near future? How can barges from China arrive like business as usual? I’m guessing they can’t. Our economic connection to China is very strong, so it’s an unknown how it will all play out.

Tourist don’t even want to go to Chinatown and buy a fortune cookie anymore.

It’ll all be forgotten soon enough like every other fuckin’ thing…
