A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Go Early For Food, Retire Early For Dignity

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 17, 2020

Starting to figure this world out a little–go to the store at 6am and it’s packed full of most everything. Still don’t know what to make of this shelter-in-place thing, it has a lot of loop holes.

Brady leaving the Pats is not news (to me). This guy wants to keep playing till he’s 45 and you have to believe someone as bright as Belichick wasn’t feelin’ that. I think Brady has something left with the right pieces around him (which he didn’t have last year) for like one more decent run if everything fell into place. Of course, he could easily go the way of so many other superstars who didn’t know when to say *it’s time*.

These guys didn’t know when to say that.

Brady…as long as it ain’t here, fine. Given his reported demands, market seems limited.
Z tells Giants to head home and not stick around AZ camp unless they are rehabbing injury or have an issue from foreign country like say Venezuela.
Um as guy of certain age, about to test limits as I hit up laundro for wash and to pick up some dry cleaning on dress clothes I ain’t gonna need for a while as work is shut down. Also trying to see where I can pick some food ($20-$30 bucks worth not hoarding anything) without hassle or driving around too much.

I’d head out to a Safeway at 6am. The trucks come in after midnight and they stock the shelves from then till 6am (and beyond). I couldn’t believe the difference between 4pm yesterday and 6am today. Of course, there were still empty shelves but a lot of stuff was there this morning that wasn’t there last night.

Is that Jerry Rice as a Bronco? I have no memory of that.

    • Flavor said, on March 17, 2020 at 8:39 am

looks like him but his last year was with the Seahawks, no stats as a Bronco. I don’t recall him as a Seahawk

  3. zumiee said, on March 17, 2020 at 8:36 am

Steve Carlton as an SF Giant was sad. Hershiser also didn’t have much left as a Giant.

Thank God no Brady in a Niner uniform…still pissed about the pulling the plug on March Madness…#AugustMadness before college kids go back to school.

  5. Flavor said, on March 17, 2020 at 8:41 am

actually yes indeed that is Jerry as a Bronco

Competitors till the end, lots of old boxers can fit into that category.

  6. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 17, 2020 at 9:07 am

It’s never really bothered me when guys hang on until the bitter end. Getting to the top tier of their chosen sport is incredibly difficult and pretty much all these guys have known their whole life. Arriving at the end is a cold hard truth for them and in most cases its not about money but for the love of the game.

  7. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 17, 2020 at 9:10 am

I was wondering the same thing about 6AM Safeway missions. Sounds like a solid plan.

    • willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:25 am

I just got out of the big one on Hamilton down past Meridian fwiw. No meat left but otherwise not too bad, no big long lines though only few cashiers open. This one is normally open 24/7 but now it’s 6 AM to 9 PM

  8. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 9:52 am

Franco Harris springs to mind. Him running OB with the Seahawks was awful.

  9. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 9:53 am

Rice tried to catch on with the Broncos but gave up. He played a couple preseason games.

  10. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:01 am

Our safeway is 24 hours so 12;30 am runs are the best. Tp in stock and no people

    • Flavor said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:28 am

you should double check that 24 thing, most stores have cut their hours. And at 12:30 the new shipments haven’t made it in yet anyway, at least not in Los Altos (they said the trucks there start rolling in after midnight and then they spend the night unloading and stocking)

      • willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:34 am

yeah those are the big 40 footers. I used to load/unload ones like that, takes a while just to get pallets or shrink wrap off let alone onto sales floor. Usually only 1 or 2 docks to unload from too.
Unc is where you live on “lockdown” like we are here in peninsula south (and north and east) bay?

      • unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:40 am

Yeah. Not sure if they’ve adjusted their hours or not. But as of Sunday they were still open 24/7.

  11. willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:29 am

so with restaurants…the ones that are open everything is to go right? Wonderful lady who runs laundro (thank god) I hit this AM also has a Mexican restaurant in South San Jose Blossom Hill near Snell. She said she cut back hours but is still open 7 days a week. Again, bless the saints…few weeks without Mexican food or being able to go out somewhere and order different food for take out would be very boring at mealtime

  12. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:43 am

My son works at Panera and they are open, but do strictly take-out orders. No seating allowed. There are a ton of places (in red states) that are still open and doing normal business for St Patrick’s day. Smart.

And yeah Contra Costa county is under shelter in place. Saw a ton of people walking around yesterday. We back up an open space, so we aren’t quite going stir-crazy.

  13. alleykat69 said, on March 17, 2020 at 10:52 am

Fuck the lines at Grocery Stores, I just put in a huge order at Safeway to deliver my stuff. They were out of a few things like soups but I got my mandatory TP🧻like everyone else lol 😂

  14. alleykat69 said, on March 17, 2020 at 11:17 am

Timing is everything sadly.I was on the books to have hip replacement (Jan 9th saw the doctor) scheduled it for March 20th, now with the corona virus all surgeries unless you come in with multiple gunshot wounds, cardiac arrest etc, are off the books, as beds are needed in Shelter City..Now I have no clue when I will be able to get this done, the doctor was actually pretty sympathetic knowing my pain, but says it’s out of his control, supplies, staffing, mandatory in all hospitals in the counties..
If I went in December, I would have the new hip singing Huey Lewis “ Hip to be Square” are Tower of Power “What is Hip?” And been recovering under house arrest. Yeah what a few weeks difference can make..😷

  15. Winder said, on March 17, 2020 at 11:21 am

I gotta go to Lowe’s and get a new sink faucet I knew the fucker was on it’s last leg but par for the course I put stuff like that off until it’s necessary. Since I’m already out might as well go to Winco, it has been a whole week since I went into a store. There is no way I can stay locked in the house, people are needy creatures.

  16. Flavor said, on March 17, 2020 at 12:00 pm

everyone’s talking about getting food to go, get it at the curb, all that jazz. But that doesn’t seem to address a fundamental unknown which is confirmation that the people handling your food aren’t sick. To me, ordering out is a huge easy to avoid risk.

  17. chipower9 said, on March 17, 2020 at 12:20 pm

Agree on the hours to hit the stores, comment, although I was at our local Raley’s yesterday afternoon (no bread, no eggs). Hit it up this morning at 6. Got a few things I needed, but still no bread or eggs. All good. We are all going to have to get creative while we ride this thing out.

While my office has not been officially closed, most of the 300 or so that work here are teleworking. I came in today to do a couple of phone interviews for a position we are filling, but teleworking most of the week. Runs for groceries or gas are about it, other than the occasional trip to the office.

    Stay healthy, Flappers.

    • Flavor said, on March 17, 2020 at 12:35 pm

when I was at Safeway this morning they were stocking the egg shelf. A woman came up and asked the stocker if they had any organic eggs. She said no and the lady walked away clearly irritated. There were tons of different type of eggs to choose from, white, brown, free range, all that jazz. This is a good example of how we all need to be a little more flexible right now. You didn’t get organic eggs today. Boo fucking hoo. Pick another kind.

      • chipower9 said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:01 pm

LMAO…I prefer organic eggs, but in a pinch would buy whatever the fuck was available.

  18. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm

On point regarding those prepping your food. As a ~15+ year service worker I can assure you that during “normal” times most people are not following cleanliness protocols. Stay in and make your own food, especially now.

Giants sign 16 year old prospect out of DR, compared to Tatis Jr. of the Padres.

    https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-sign-16-year-old-prospect-compared-padres-fernando-tatis-jr

Niners have restructured Jerick McKinnon’s contract, and also extended Jimmie Ward with a three year deal.

  21. chipower9 said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:04 pm

And….Giants are still kicking the tires on Puig.

  22. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:28 pm

Yep. No milk or butter today at 2 different stores. 2 days ago, there was a normal amount of both. Plenty of eggs and bread. And yeah our Safeway now closes from 10pm to 6am.

The really good thing about our (Alamo) Safeway is it was the closest Safeway to Peter Magowan so it is the flagship Safeway.

    • alleykat69 said, on March 17, 2020 at 2:45 pm

Yeah your lucky Chuck with that Safeway store.
      Cause everyone “Remember the Alamo”

  23. willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:30 pm

Z/H and Kapler are kinda screwed. Last look I think they had 50 some guys in camp, and now no ST for while. As Pavs has said all along, younger guys with options are most at risk of being sent out to Sac or AA. Supposed to be mini couple week ST before real season would begin whenever that is. Seriously how good a look could they get at Puig at this point? I think he’s SOL.

  24. willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 1:33 pm

  26. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 2:45 pm

Indy is doing stuff. Not sure how smart, but they are doing stuff. Their defense should improve. Rivers? I’ve always liked the guy. He’s a goofball but he competes.

Kevin Durant has tested positive for the coronavirus. He will likely be fine, but it just shows how aggressively the virus is spreading. That’s what viruses do. Some people are still complaining about an “over-reaction” in the U.S. I would think it’s better to over-react than to under-react to a virus that is proving to be 10 times more deadly than flu. The elderly are the most vulnerable to great harm from the virus, of course. Just about all of us have elderly people in our lives. We all want them to be safe.

  29. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 2:58 pm

Say what you will, but I’m not paying $8.50 for organic butter. That was all that was left. I’ll make a 9 pm run for hopefully) milk and butter. And Jameson’s.

  30. zumiee said, on March 17, 2020 at 3:20 pm

“Four players on the Brooklyn Nets have tested positive for coronavirus, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors were scheduled to play the Nets last Thursday in front of no fans at Chase Center, but the NBA suspended the season the night before after Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert tested positive.”

    • djloo27 said, on March 17, 2020 at 6:00 pm

So when did the Eiffel Tower move to West Virginia?

Where the hell did they get a box big enough to ship the Statue of Liberty here?

  32. alleykat69 said, on March 17, 2020 at 3:32 pm

Well I for one have no compassion/sympathy for Rudy Gobert. That punk has been nothing but a disgrace with his nonchalant attitude about the virus.
Having a press conference and joking about it all then rubbing and banging the conference table from one end to another, and then he continued signing autographs and some poor person got a positive Coronavirus symptom cause of him plus his own teammates he passed it to.Fuck this chump!

  33. willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 4:46 pm

Brady apparently set to sign with…Tampa. why? um beside 30 million reasons

    • djloo27 said, on March 17, 2020 at 5:47 pm

That’s more than 3.5 million tubs of organic butter…

  34. unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 4:48 pm

Donovan Mitchell is PISSED at Gobert.

“I read what Gobert said (his apology), heard what he said,” Donovan Mitchell said. “Glad he’s doing okay, glad I’m doing well. I’m just really happy that it was only two of us. It wasn’t the rest of the (team). Neither him or I have children at home. I know some teammates who have children at home, some staff who have children at home. I’m glad we were able to contain it as much as possible.”

Brady to the Buccos? Wow. They have a good defense. Not a bad move really. They are in better shape than with Jameis, that’s for sure.

  35. alleykat69 said, on March 17, 2020 at 5:46 pm

Buccaneers also have 2 top Wide Receivers in football with Mike Evans&Chris Godwin both 1,000 yard plus receivers, something I’m sure Brady is licking his chops over, having never had that firepower before..

    • Winder said, on March 17, 2020 at 6:37 pm

I bet Arians knows just how to use him too.

  36. willedav said, on March 17, 2020 at 5:51 pm

took a cursory look at Tampa stats and if I read it right Jameis got sacked 47 times last year. They also lost to NY giants not easy to do. Didn’t he throw 5 ints including 2 pick 6s vs. Niners in season opener?
The lead running back was Ronald Jones who terrorized pac 12 out of USC.

    • Macdog said, on March 17, 2020 at 6:59 pm

Lost to the Giants after leading 28-10 at halftime. Bucs were 3rd in NFL in points scored so, except for Winston’s numerous INTs, not much room for improvement there.

  37. djloo27 said, on March 17, 2020 at 5:58 pm

As far as Rivers goes, I never saw so many interceptions last season that made me wonder WTF he was looking at…

  38. zumiee said, on March 17, 2020 at 6:07 pm

Jameis should be in prison for rape.

  39. Bozo said, on March 17, 2020 at 7:17 pm

I’m not sure why, but we’ve had a run on garlic back here. I ended up just getting some chopped garlic in a jar. When we have a named storm coming in, we usually get a huge run on bread, eggs and milk. I always figured that hurricanes just brought out the French toast in people, i guess the coronavirus brings out the vampires.

    • unca_chuck said, on March 17, 2020 at 8:55 pm

What’s weird is different stores have different runs. One store had no milk and butter, but plenty of eggs. Next store had eggs and butter but no milk. My son went to Trader Joe’s and they had all of them.
