A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Netflix Rec’s?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 22, 2020

I watched Tiger King on Netflix yesterday. It wasn’t very good but it was only 7 episodes and I just keep telling myself to get through it.

No celebs died today.

That is all.

I have 3 more episodes to go to finish House of Cards series. Having to fire Kevin Spacey kind of messed up their final season. All things considered, the show did pretty well putting together a final season, though.

BF, did you ever watch The Wire? 5 terrific seasons for that show. It’s about drug gangs and a whole bunch of other things in an inner city. Baltimore, in this case. Very well-written, well-acted show.

    • Winder said, on March 22, 2020 at 8:30 am

The Wire is a great show. Never thought I could get into a bunch of street drug dealers but there is enough side action that blends it in so it’s enjoyable.

    Breaking Bad is great.
Also The West Wing is terrific.
The first 3 reasons of Justified are great. The last 2 seasons were OK but not great.

    • Winder said, on March 22, 2020 at 8:31 am

About every 2 years I go back and re-watch the West Wing. Love the characters.

      • zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 8:35 am

I totally agree. Great characters that stick in your mind after watching the series.
Great drama in the show, but also much laugh outloud humor.

  4. zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 8:23 am

    first 3 “seasons” of Justified

Mike Warren no hit ChiSox sept 29 1983. Lasted only 2 more seasons, 27 starts ML total. Career ERA 5.06.
One of more famous guys like this in ’60s was Bo Belinsky of Angels. Remember him and Angles teammate Dean Chance, guy who had decent career; Belinsky not so much.

cbs to have bunch of NCAA title games on today as far back as Nova-Georgetown 85 and Kentucky-Arizona 97.
Next week more games planned including stuff from last year tourney.
Nice of them to do this for all those of us jonesing over no b-ball. College tourney this season was gonna be fun, really looked forward to it.

    • alleykat69 said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:44 am

That Nova-Hoya’s matchup was one of the best of alltime in a finals! Villanova shot lights out in the game! Later is was reported Nova’s star player McLain was on cocaine the whole game!
Huge win for Rollie M over Thompson and a heavily favored Georgetown team led by Patrick Ewing..
I just remember watching that game and was just stunned how well a team(Nova)could shoot the rock for the whole game, think they were at 75% and yet still hung on to win by only a bucket..

      • willedav said, on March 22, 2020 at 11:36 am

yeah Vitale’s buddy Rollie wins one. Ed Pinckney, right? Really like guy Warriors drafted, Paschall from Nova. The rest of their scrubinis (except for Chriss) no. Got to get this draft/off season right for once

If you like sci-fi, are looking for a multi season series and have Amazon prime The Expanse is pretty good.

  9. alleykat69 said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:31 am

I’m starting to watch “The Outsiders” on HBO Now a Stephen King adaptation starring Jason Bateman. So far so good with lots of twists that keep you guessing and wanting more..

    • Bozo said, on March 22, 2020 at 1:04 pm

The show had a few changes from the book that I didn’t understand why they made the changes. Still, the changes weren’t that big of a deal and I thought HBO did a good job with the series.

  10. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:37 am

Ozark is a good one on Netflix featuring Jason Bateman who’s had a sort of interesting career resurgence.

    • Flavor said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:42 am

dude I fucking love Ozark and the 3rd season is coming out in just a few days I think

  11. Winder said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:38 am

Well all that sounds better that what I’ve been doing. i just finished reading ‘Gone With the Wind’ for the first and last time. I thought the book was about 300+ pages too long. There were some interesting parts though about Plantation life, early and late Atlanta, especially during reconstruction. But it was mostly about a selfish girl/woman. One of the hardest books I’ve ever read and I have polished off a lot of books.

    • alleykat69 said, on March 22, 2020 at 10:48 am

Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damm!

      • Winder said, on March 22, 2020 at 12:05 pm

        Lol. I don’t either.

There’s a ton of good documentaries out there on both Netflix and HBO. I’ve been watching McMillions with my oldest and it’s good. It details a massive national scam around the McDonald’s monopoly games in the 90’s.

Great post from Willie at the end of the last thread, in case anyone missed it:

got a nice phone call from young guy I used to coach in travel ball and who has helped me coach in past. Said I was on his list of people to stay in touch with and he’d call back too. He is part time teacher and assistant HS b-ball coach here who is out of job and also coaches a travel ball team in spring, and all their tournaments have been cancelled through May.
Really nice thought, told him I much appreciated hearing from him say hi to parents and his brother (whom I also coached) and rest of his family.
I should probably at least email or text people I haven’t heard from in awhile too.

Last night we watched a movie on Netflix, War Horse, directed by Spielberg. Hadn’t even heard of this one. It’s about a horse that goes through various owners in England and mainland Europe during World War I. It was pretty good, though a bit long at 2 1/2 hours. This being Spielberg, it looks fantastic. My college-age daughter liked it, so if you have family members who are into horses, they’ll probably dig it too.

    • zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 12:31 pm

I saw this movie in a theater and liked it a lot.

watched finals from last year Tex Tech vs. Virginia, good ballgame not decided in regulation. U Va hit last 14 FTs in a row, led by Deandre Hunter who was Atlanta Hawks 3rd leading scorer this year. Two very tough defensive teams-much props to coaches who can get their teams to play D and rebound like that.

    Just another reminder:
Today the Giants TV network is playing 3 Giants games in a row, starting at 4 PM Pacific Time.
The Heston no-hitter, and then the two Lincecum no-hitters.

    • Macdog said, on March 22, 2020 at 3:15 pm

      I was there for Heston’s no-no!

      • zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 3:22 pm

        Very cool!

  18. zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 2:19 pm

If you have the A’s network, they’ve been playing some retro-A’s games (and retro-Kings games.)

i work at a private school as a crisis manager. We have 2 campuses. I made this video today to encourage some of our kids on our Stanford campus who weren’t logging in last week. You’ll notice I picked my favorite sport. 🙂
    One take motherfuckers.

thanks for noticing the shirt! Hey, where in the hell is Snarkk? I know he said he was taking a break a few weeks ago but if he’s just sitting at home doing nothing like the rest of us and ignoring the Flap I’m gonna be pissed 🙂

He might need his own video!

    • djloo27 said, on March 22, 2020 at 4:16 pm

      Paul in Asia also MIA…

  22. willedav said, on March 22, 2020 at 4:17 pm

Yeah shirt was awesome. turned the Giants game on and ….”and here’s Aoki to lead things off.” And then he gets one of those IF choppy IF hits that go a few feet. Man could not stand this guy. no idea why Giants picked him after he looked crummy in OF for Royals year before. Could never understand that–in the J league they practice relentlessly on fundamentals, and after growing up there and playing years on ball he sucks as an OF.

    • zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 4:29 pm

It speaks to the lack of analytical acumen in the Giants front office in those days. 🙂

  23. alleykat69 said, on March 22, 2020 at 4:35 pm

Yeah I’m with ya WilleD about Aoki.
Never cared for him,” he might as well used a chopstick instead of a regular bat to try and hit with!”

  24. willedav said, on March 22, 2020 at 4:37 pm

Mac was in house? Yard looks mostly empty yet the box 6/9/2015 said 23 thou were there. Duffy at 3b Justin Maxwell in RF. Wilmer Flores playing SS for mets.
Syndegard throwing 98 with regularity Heston topping out at 90. and K’d 11 Mets that night.

    • Macdog said, on March 22, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Probably not quite 23K. I was in upper deck to the left of home, Loo’s visited me in those seats. Mets had a pretty lame lineup that game, hard to imagine they’d playing in the World Series after this one.

  25. zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 5:18 pm

Heston drove in a couple of runs, too! Have a night!

  26. willedav said, on March 22, 2020 at 5:23 pm

syndegaard’s change up is 88. Victimized this game by Giants ground attack.

Another hour before West World second episode. Found that a few drinks and a good pipe load is the best distraction for me up here as this little state sits between California and Wash. state.

    Be safe Flappers.

I guess there’s no rush to announce it, but it’s hard to imagine the NHL or NBA resuming their seasons.
    Baseball???

    • alleykat69 said, on March 22, 2020 at 6:52 pm

Forget about baseball and the Olympic’s as well Loo..
Hey just wondering why did that vile creep of pond scum Harvey Weinstein get a Corona Virus rest at all?
And karma that it turned out he’s infected,he’s probably looking for any kind of out over his prison sentence, the scumbag!!

Francesa was actually making sense the other day.
Shutting down the country is just not sustainable for very long…

On the story Kat mentioned Giants were sending out Duggar and S Anderson, one goof said SF would lose 100.. um they might not even play 100. Last year game 62 I think was mid June

The virus fear exposes major problems in our nation.
1% of the people have 50% of the money.
Our healthcare system is patchwork and unequal, and for profit.
One of the major political parties hates government and is not interested in doing it well.

“Canada won’t be sending teams to the Olympics this year.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) are also calling for the games to be postponed by one year.
“While we recognize the inherent complexities around a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community,” the committee said in a statement.”

  33. zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 9:03 pm

After getting tested for the virus and waiting for the results, Rand Paul continued to meet with other Senators, and to work out in the Senate gym. The gym was still open?

  34. zumiee said, on March 22, 2020 at 11:13 pm

Two stellar defensive plays in Tim’s first no-hitter.
Sandoval made a long strong throw from deep down the line at thirdbase. And Pence made a diving shoestring catch.
