A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Niners!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 25, 2020

I’m completely passed my negativity phase from Day 1 of draft day and I’m in full blown *wait and see but nervously excited* mode. It’s impossible to hear Kinlaw’s life story and not be happy for him. And while I do have a bias against the Pac 12 because it’s so weak compared to actual powerhouse conferences I am willing to trust Shanny on this Five Lettered Fellow and hope for the best.

Today is still legit, you can get a real player or two on Day 3 if you mine the right nugget.

Got an email from Chi–he said today is the 6 year anniversary of a Flapalooza. It’s possible this is the one we found out about Unca’s daughter dating Diggity’s son.

only good thing I’ve ever seen a Dodger do.

Noticed number of Pac 12 players picked yesterday, WRs and running backs from USC Colorado Utah. Ashtyn Davis too, DB out of Cal. I’m not defending the league as a whole, just saying there are still good players among all those who play in it.

Speaking of college, San Jose St. announced Fall semester that starts mid August and runs through mid December will be primarily online. So if you were an athlete, how would you feel about online only classes?
As a student? they aren’t cutting tuition either, though you have to wonder about out of state students that pay significantly more.

I know there are good players, it would be impossible to not have some studs in there. I just think people are still acting like the Pac 12 is a powerhouse conference and it’s not. They lose out on recruiting to everyone. Their TV deal is a joke and contributing to its demise. Outside of the boojee sports like tennis, swimming, golf, all that shit, it’s a dying conference right now……

That doesn’t fly up here in Duck country.

mm good points Flav. I watched state title game for best teams and the 5 star QB out of national power St. John Bosco, a monster 6-4 240 guy with cannon of an arm, is going to Clemson. Looking at their recruiting he’s only guy from California in their entire incoming class.
couple guys from Wazzu that played for pass happy spread offense Mike Leach I’m interested in:
QB Anthony Gordon from Terra Nova HS in Pacifica. threw for 5500 yrds 71% comp rate 48 TDs 16 ints.
WR Easop Winston from Serra (uncs alma mater) caught 85 passes 1100 yrds 11 TDs as a senior.

The QB Leach had the year before, Gardner Minshew opened some eyes as QB for crummy Jags.

Aiyuk is from Arizona St. where he played for Herm Edwards; they had very promising freshman QB last year. Pac 12 has done some features on Herm, coaching practices yada yada and he seems pretty old school likeable and funny. And of course is a name well known to NY football fans…

  6. alleykat69 said, on April 25, 2020 at 8:42 am

I’m getting more pumped up over Aiyuk after watching his breakaway speed and his incredible wingspan the same as KlayThompson and he’s only 5’11! Herm Edwards compared him to Deshaun Jackson another guy mentioned Walter Payton the way he finishes a play.Thats some nice comparisons!
Then that play against Oregon who were ranked 6 th when they went into Tempe and were about to take the lead in a close game when ASU faced a 3rd and 16 on their 19 when they turned to Aiyuk there go to guy and he blew by the Ducks secondary and hauled in a 81 yard TD that sealed the victory. And he was pulling away with no Duck closing on him.
Heard also Alabama coach Nick Saban had a last minute recruit cancel out and he offered a scholarship to Aiyuk who politely held his ground and stuck with ASU( I like that commitment), Wow could you imagine how scary a WR trio of Juedy,Ruggsand Aiyuk would have been? Probably lucky for the Niners he wasn’t it the spotlight of being in Alabama with the high visibility he would of had over ASU and the less attractive Pac12..

    • Stan Shell said, on April 25, 2020 at 8:54 am

I told you guys yesterday that Aiyuk was tough. He’s a real burner.

Lol 😂 Yeah if he turns into a bust it will be back to Upchuck 🤮

  7. Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 8:54 am

Starting from the the PAC 8 they have always had a very rich history. Some of the best football players ever went through there. The Rose bowl used to be the premiere game. One reason some of the teams in the SEC and ACC are so stocked is because the requirements are so low to enroll. It is pretty hard to get into some of the Pac 12 schools. i know they all offer scholarships but they are somewhat limited.

    • Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:11 am

Good point about the SEC/ACC, probably holds true for the Big 12 as well.

The rest of the draft is when the real work is done. Anyone can find talented players in the first two rounds, but today is what separates the winners from the losers.

  8. djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:13 am

    Trent Williams to 49ers…

  9. Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:13 am

Niners getting LT Trent Williams from the ‘Skins.

    • djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:16 am

Do we have the same station on?

    • djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:20 am

Look how Niner conscious these guys have made us, Mac…

      • Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:37 am

My team sucks, not sure what your reason is.

  10. Flavor said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:30 am

Thoughts? Just more *win now! baby*. I love it.

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:42 am

49errs had to improve pass protection/OL depth and have done it with this move. Fantastic trade imo.

  11. alleykat69 said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:46 am

    Wow that’s a great move!
They just picked up 3 starters, and at 32 with a year off the wear& tear should be a good replacement for Staley at LT.Hell im sure they both can play together with Williams playing RT some?
If we have any picks left, might as well go secondary.
    Yeah Win Now Baby!!

    • Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:57 am

      Staley expected to retire.

      • Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:02 am

Mac- did you see that somewhere?

      • Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:13 am

Kat I just said that because Jonas was pretty good with Buffalo also but once he got here he got real lazy.

  12. Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:55 am

Interesting. Just hope he’s not another Jonas Jennings. If he can stay on the field even at a part time basis then It’s a good deal.

  13. Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:01 am

I guess we still have a 6th&7th left. Not the usual draft haul. But, for what we have it seems very productive.

  14. dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:05 am

Is Staley’s retiring this is probably the best move they can make.

  15. alleykat69 said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:08 am

    Winder..He’s no Jonas Jennings.
Trent Williams is a 7 straight Pro Bowler which was stopped by his holdout.A former #4 pick in the draft, Williams is very talented..

    • Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:16 am

Kat- look at my 10:13 post.

  16. djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:19 am

When I hear the Staley, I think of my favorite elevators.
    I love elevators…

  17. Winder said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:20 am

Sad to see Staley go. One tough football player. Probably HOF material.

  18. djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:22 am

The over the top Bronco draft jizzing is getting on my nerves…

    • willedav said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:29 am

awesome rivalries that go all the way back to early days of AFL. When Gruden first came to Raiders he was amazed how players were fired up–we gotta beat Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers.

  19. willedav said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:27 am

Niner centric that was funny. Couple days ago I read in Chron Shanahan was pretty sure Staley was coming back; either way this is great move.
During the first day before they got the last first round pick in I thought I heard Goodell use the intro phrase “super bowl champion KC Chiefs.”
Loo and SDawg are gonna be able to use that one all season.

    • djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:56 am

      Still hard to grasp.
      Like 2010 Giants…

  20. willedav said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:43 am

Mac, everyone likes the safety Giants picked up in second round, no?

    • willedav said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:48 am

ESPN likes all 4 of their top picks including the DB from UCLA.

    • Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 11:17 am

Yeah, they’ve gotten some praise for their picks. I’m always skeptical.

  21. mrsprtdude said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:45 am

I was at the Oregon Game. It was electric and filed with stress! My daughter stormed the field after. Guy is clutch

  22. mrsprtdude said, on April 25, 2020 at 10:51 am

Hyped about Williams. Staley a beast but he is old. Part of the issue in the SB was OL failure.

  23. Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 11:21 am

Winder: ESPN’s Adam Schefter said not long after the trade about Staley retiring, and now there’s a story on ESPN web site.

  24. wilcojoe said, on April 25, 2020 at 11:29 am

The Trent Williams move looks even better when you consider how little they gave up compared to the hapless Texans. Houston traded two first round picks for Larry Tunsil.

  25. Flavor said, on April 25, 2020 at 11:35 am

    Brieda out, this guy in

  26. Macdog said, on April 25, 2020 at 12:06 pm

    wow great pic!

  30. willedav said, on April 25, 2020 at 2:02 pm

I think there were 7 Pac 12 guys taken by end of 3rd round and then Stanford TE taken in 4th.
what happened to Arcega Whiteside this season in Philly?

    • Flavor said, on April 25, 2020 at 2:14 pm

he sucked. And he had tons of chances with all the WRs they had go down.

  31. alleykat69 said, on April 25, 2020 at 2:26 pm

Whiteside just doesn’t get separation from DB is what I’ve heard.Only had 10 catches for 169 yards last year for an Eagles team that really lacked any bigtime play’s downfield.
Now they go out and draft Reagor,Hightower, Watkins & pick-up Goodwin thus adding a ton of speed..

  32. unca_chuck said, on April 25, 2020 at 3:26 pm

Jennings is slow but a great runner after the catch. Could fit in as a possession WR.

  33. unca_chuck said, on April 25, 2020 at 3:35 pm

Great pic, Flav. And I think you are right. Funny, I just saw Wilco’s post an wrote the same thing yesterday in my blog about how cool it was to see the players with their families instead of the super-hype-posse-fest that usually goes on.

  34. dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 25, 2020 at 3:55 pm

Just noticing the Flapalooza pic – good times. I thought James and Zum were there too right? Who’s the guy in the back with the red tinted glasses? Or is it a photobomb?

  35. dirtnrocksnomo said, on April 25, 2020 at 4:00 pm

Staley retiring is sort of surprising. I thought he might stick around for one more year but his post SB presser was some brutal honesty that we don’t often see from athletes https://tinyurl.com/y9s9sfdn

I appreciate that he brought his talents to the Bay Area and enjoyed his career. HOFer?

  36. Flavor said, on April 25, 2020 at 4:23 pm

i think the guy in the back is a photobomb, yes. From L to R it goes Snarkk, Me, Chi’s son, Chi, Diggity, Unca, Dirt

  37. gianthead said, on April 25, 2020 at 4:58 pm

Trent Williams is going to be a highly .
motivated Niner..maybe the most important development in this entire draft in terms of immediate impact!!! Now trade for Rodgers:)

Trump cancelled the task-force press briefing today. He might be souring on the concept.

  44. djloo27 said, on April 25, 2020 at 9:02 pm

Most people are wearing masks here, but I’m real sure that a large percentage don’t grasp the concept that it protects them from NOTHING – it only protects others from you. Once this fully sinks in, the beatings of the non-mask wearers here will start making news…
