Baseball Is Back Baby!
Here’s the Korean Baseball League schedule of games for tomorrow, er…at 2:30am. Lots of guys names Kim, Kwang, Jae, Suk and Jae.

I saw a short piece on this on the morning news. They have cut-outs of fans in the seats, and they’re wearing masks. Korean baseball apparently also has cheerleaders, and there are cutouts of the cheerleaders, too. Pretty damned funny.
But, it’s baseball. I will probably record a couple of these and check them out. It has to be better than re-runs of whatever…
I would play this shit on draftkings in a nanosecond if it weren’t for the time the games start. Line ups don’t come out till 30-60 min before the games at 2:30am and that is prime time slumber for Big Flavor…..
Wonder if ESPN would rebroadcast these games at more convenient viewing times for USA market. What else are they running all day?
Yes, as Chi said retro stuff is getting old. giants channel is showing mid season meaningless games from 2013 to highlight something like a Lincecum W, Pablo hitting 3 bombs, yada yada. Supposedly some of these (Friday or Saturday nights) are “fan choice.” They’ve already aired some of these twice. There’s been Warriors and Sharks stuff shown in similar vein.
Just a poor choice of programming imo. Why not go all way back, to Bonds (either of them) era? Warriors and Sleepy Floyd?
Nostalgia is for books, blogs, and drunken bar room conversations. i have no interest in watching any of the old games.
^^
What he said, that includes virtual dumbshit games!!
By-and-large, this is true for me, too. But I did enjoy watching some of the WS clinching win games. It is amazing how I had forgotten some of the details of those games.
It’s called age, the brain cell counts have demised some..
I like the retro games on the Giants network, but I agree they shouldn’t be afraid of showing pre-2010 games. There’s more interest in those pre-3-in-5 games than they think.
In regards to Willie suggesting they go back and show games from the Bonds era, shit, go even farther back. How about to the Mays era? I would enjoy that more than the meaningless games being recycled, now.
I am not sure that the game was originally televised and that tape exists, but I would love to see the July ’63 16 inning marathon between Marichal and Spahn.
It might be almost impossible to find a regular season Giants game from pre-1975 or so. TV networks usually (idiotically) recorded over the tape to save money. No sense of the historical value. At least the NFL had NFL films to save a lot of film footage.
I would think some games of the ‘62 World Series would exist somewhere, but maybe not.
The Mazeroski walk-off game in ‘60 still exists on video because Bing Crosby was an owner of the Pirates, and he was able to get his own copy of the game before the master tape was recorded over. His video copy was then forgotten about and sat in an archival warehouse for decades before being rediscovered.
They televised all the Giants and Dodgers games from the early 60’s through the late 60’s. At least they did in LA and I think at least all the weekend games here. Big rivalry then.
But were the games saved on tape?
No idea
We are Lotte fans correct????
Sure, why not.
More power to you guys who can sit thru a retro game. I can watch clips from games that’s it. Only thing I can watch start to finish are old horse races.
Yeah but that’s only a few minutes around the track..
1-2. Ain’t no few.
There’s a certain poigancy watching 40,000 people willing to pack a stadium “in those days,” which is pretty recently.
When will people want to pack a stadium together again?
Live events were already starting to ride thin ice. If you can always watch it in HD what’s the point of going to a game except occasionally?
If one are 2 of the Korean teams sign Tom Selleck( Mr.Baseball) are Bernie Mac (Mr. 3000) I might be more inclined to watch..
Isn’t Bernie Mac dead???? That would be quite a feat if he signed….
Oh yeah that’s right my bad.
Still Korean baseball is dead to me anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter much if Bernie passed away..
If you have / subscribe to the Athetic they are counting doewn the 100 greatest homers i the history of the SF Giants. Each homer comes with a story, and lots with video. Worth a look!
that would be interesting. As Zum said, it’s unfortunate games from before certain era no longer viewable; dodgers giants games were always special out here from ’60s on.
question for those of you who do subscribe to Athletic: what is your general take? Baggs is on there and he’s probably top local guy…anyone else you like/respect?
Brisbee is on there as well. He’s not everybody’s cup of tea with his wacky style. Some of his stuff doesn’t work for me, but I do think he can be funny at times, and his passion for the Giants is obvious. Right now though, with no games, I barely go the site. I know they are still cranking out stuff, but there is only so much of that fluff I can read.
Story in the LA Times about baseball returning without fans, asks three TV execs how they might try to liven things up and bring in viewers. This is one of the more, uh, interesting ideas from The Bachelor creator:
“The biggest problem with why sports leagues will never do it is that I don’t think the players will be able to maintain quarantine. These guys are never going to be able to go cold turkey. You’ve got to be able to embrace that truth and make that part of the game.
“What you do is, each game, you load up the stadium with their wives, at a distance from them and at a distance from each other, so there is no quarantine violation. The winning team gets to have their wives tested, and then essentially a conjugal visit.
“You can [film] all the girls. They’re beautiful. They’re in the stands, separated in their own sections or whatever. Those guys are now playing for more than the pride of winning a baseball game. If you go on an eight-game losing streak, that’s not good.”

Korean League does nothing for me. I don’t care much for a reduced MLB season either. Just shut it down and come back next year. Not big on re-watching old games either, though I did enjoy watching a couple of those broadcasts from those A’s World Series in the 70’s.
Played 9 holes yesterday and man, it was great to get out on the course. They had it dialed in real well with a temp check station before entering the clubhouse. Walking only, but that is fine by me. Masks mandatory in the clubhouse area.
Still watching Jordan doc, but totally agree with the criticism that they jump the timeline around WAY too much.
Saw a deal where Ken Burns said he doesn’t like that it is produced in tandem with Jordan’s management company—-which is obviously a fair criticism.
The Jerry Krause bashing is getting a little old for me as well.
MacDog,
Do they have a raised cup so your golf ball doesn’t go all the way in the hole?
And if you have a slight temperature 🤒 will they not let you play?
How’d you shoot? Any beers? 3s your limit on the course, aye dawg?
That was a Perfect Storm, my man! Unique circumstance. Hottest day in the history of the city of Milbrae and I was kinda nervous being around Bobby Bowden for the first time!
Yes the guy keeps on ticking like a timed..
Frank Gore signs a 1 year deal with the Jets!
It will be his 16th season at age 37.Wow, and who says a running back shelf life is only 5-7 years..
Needs 1,380 yards to move into 2nd place alltime.
Could do that if he plays till he’s 40, which I won’t put it pass him, if a team is still willing to sign him..
timex
We are now at 100% mask compliance at my local grocery store. Good times, good times
When I went to the store yesterday, only 1 lady wasn’t wearing a mask. She also had a Chihuahua in a baby seat in the cart, so that alone was enough for me to keep my distance.
there was one lady who didn’t have one today and the store stopped her and said it’s a SC County mandate, gotta have a mask on in the store. So the store gave her one (as they should have been doing all along)
LMAO…did the Chihuahua growl at you?
Chi, everyone was keeping away from her and I think it was more about the dog in a baby car seat in her shopping cart than her not having a mask on.
I’m not sure I’m getting a shorten season. Without spectators, it wouldn’t be creating jobs for stadium personnel and peripheral employment. The host cities wouldn’t be making the revenues they normally get, so I’m not sure what their incentive would be. I do understand the entertainment value of having games broadcast but is that it? Would this all just be for the tv revenues?
mm TV $$$ would still be big source of revenue for owners. Players would still get paid too; saw big column on breakdown of how many are making what these days, very top heavy. For lot of guys tossing that completely out the window, which is short to begin with, could hurt.
looks like mlb TV will have some Mays stuff on tmw, The Catch WS game plus some AS stuff. Roberts SB, critical play for RedSox, will be on soon. Man them winning sure brought lot of their left coast fans out of woodwork.
I enjoyed some of the A’s WS stuff from ’70s too; it’s baseball history when game was played a little differently and chance to see some players I liked, Campaneris Fingers Rudi yada yada. Granted those A’s teams had tremendous pitching so most of those were low scoring. Reggie in his younger days had lot of tools beside just hitting with power.
lol, look at how many likes my comment on this has gotten–that’s a huge number for me. I’m not into twitter for the followers or any attention, I just like reading up to date news and funny shit. I’ve tweeted shit that’s a thousand times better than this, there’s no reason this should have so many likes.
Where the damn nets:) is that your gangsta look Flav???
lulz, I increasingly find myself unfollowing and/or blocking people on The Twitter. Maybe it’s just not for me. 🤷🏻♂️
No fat kids back then, they were lucky to get a potato 🥔 on they’re plate back then with the Great Depression looming..
Guess the parents were figuring one less mouth to feed with the crazy construction of that playground!
Almost a guarantee broken neck scenario..
Re Golf–
Yes, they turn you away if you have a slight temp. The hole is weird. The flag is elevated so the flag holder is at the top of the hole. Ball goes in, but kinda lays in the moat formed by the base. I could see a firm putt that would ordinarily go in bounce off the base and go out using this format.
I shot a legit 44 on a par 36 track, which is a good number for me. When you consider I hadn’t played since August, I was pleased as hell with that.
Only had one beer—and was just cuz the guys I was paired with had a cooler full of Modelo cans and offered me one. I felt it would have been rude to turn them down and I love me a Modelo in a can!
Gonna get out again tomorrow at 1:52 and see if I can get a full loop in.
Im playing Friday for first time and course should be carts and normal flag sticks…I would kill to shoot an equivalent 88 first time out or at least a 44 on the front or back. Playing a long course too and that is definitely not my strength.
A couple of you guys were discussing The Athletic earlier on the thread. I have never subscribed, and had no idea on cost. So, checked it out. They have a sale now. Annual (based on monthly charge) is now $35.99 ($2.99 a month) instead of the normal $59.88 ($4.99 a month).
fwiw, I’ve subscribed to the Athletic for about a year now and totally recommend it. As mentioned they’re churning out content despite the lack of games and personally I’ve been reading a lot of it. I suppose I’d still get sports writing at sfgate if the site wasn’t a constant stream of video and ad pop ups.
With the season basically not happening at Snoracle I’m curious what the org has been saying about refunds etc. Any Flappers still on the season ticket distribution list?
thx Dirt, content is good. Unfortunate that every site you go to for news etc. wants to be paid with a subscription but theirs is more than reasonable.
As the DJ said in “The Harder They Come”– that’s show business. No business ($$$) no show.
It can be frustrating sometimes, but why shouldn’t these sites charge something for their services?
Newspapers and magazines weren’t free.
Everyone’s got bills to pay…
Big decision yesterday in the lawsuit involving a court order to transfer elderly and at-risk inmates out of the federal prison in Elkton. If Stix is still there, he may get out soon. Here’s a short report:
https://www.acluohio.org/archives/press-releases/victory-sixth-circuit-denies-bureau-of-prisons-request-to-stall-release-transfer-of-medically-vulnerable-prisoners-from-elkton?c=183409
Nice work, Xoot.
What a jolt he would give this place if he turns up one day.
Imagine the Q & A session.
What’s the first thing you guys would ask him?
How much actual fuckin’ goes on in prison? Hey, it’s something I’ve always wondered about.
who was better — the beatles or the Stones? If the Stones, then are you as pissed off as I am that trump uses their music to conclude his rallies?
What song does he use?
Sympathy For The Devil?
Monkey Man?
In AZ today it was You Can’t Always Get What You Want. Seriously.
MM is a strange, subversive masterpiece. Your average demagogue would look pretty foolish trying to appropriate that one.
Best intro ever…
Is the Wolfe Tones Helicopter 🚁 song you’re favorite
alltime?
What do you want for Christmas?
Get out of Jail free card?
Chi Athletic is money well spent!!!
Much props to ACLU and Ohio Justice outfits for their work on behalf of “837 medically vulnerable prisoners.”
Hopefully release or transfer works out for Sitx.
Warriors game tonite is from early 2018 at Chicago. First half pretty interesting good night for Klay
Apparently he was no Fidel at baseball, either:

that article will give you the willies
watched first half of warriors game that was on vs. Chicago. They scored 92 and Klay Thompson had 36…in the first half on way to 149 and 52 with 14 3s for Klay. Story was Thompson had been 5-36 on 3s from start of season; first quarter alone he hit 6 and overall 10 of his first 11. bulls fired coach Fred Hoiberg couple weeks later and hired Jim boylen, who is still there but might not survive either.
