Future Star?

Without further ado I present to you an unmasking so great it shall dwarf what mean ol’ Obama did to Michael Flynn…..

The baseball card the world has wondered about for 2 days……

And the back is just as epic if not moreso

The white van in the background is so perfectly 70’s. None of you guessed this correctly but thanks for playing along!

Ok, new game: Who’s this guy?

Great shot! pretty serious Vogs level game face going on too.

    I’m glad I didn’t make guesses. 🙂
    Good one!
I love the facial expression. He’s a gamer!

oh I watched that 92 L at home to Cowboys nfc championship. Young said something I’ve never heard before either. Late 3rd Q I think deep in dallas territory 4th down Seifert called for FG which they made. Talking about it, Young said, “I hate field goals. Second half especially you need TDs to win.” Which of course, they didn’t in that one but eventually got revenge couple years later 38-21. in muddy game at Stick.

Another L (11-10)–game 2 of 2002 was also on and I watched most of it. Ortiz got hammered right from start, giants came all the way back and briefly led but couldn’t hold off Angels. Kent homered, Bonds homered in 9th off Percival wasn’t enough. ouch

    • djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 11:19 am

I’ve never seen a video that shows exactly where that Bonds HR landed.
Life before HDTV seems so primitive now…

I should get partial credit for guessing Yamin Haad!

    • willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 8:13 am

wilco 9:24 AM yesterday had the era of early 70s right.

      • sandog said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:22 am

He nailed the racial profile as well. Weird that I only set Flav white dudes. That wasn’t intentional.

  5. willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 8:17 am

NY Governor Cuomo said about playing baseball in NYC, “There’s a lot of reward with minimal risk.” What’s general sentiment from East Coast about baseball returning by July?

    • unca_chuck said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:40 am

I think he got that backwards.

    • djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 11:26 am

The general sentiment is that nobody really knows anything about anything.
When the weather is nice people are outside in force.
      Mask wearing about 70%, I’d say…

Actually UncaChuck came the closest. He nailed the jersey Diggity is wearing

  10. Flavor said, on May 17, 2020 at 9:15 am

the guy in the pic at the bottom of the thread is Will Poarch. I had to do it….

    • djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 9:43 am

There’s something funny about the name itself.
      No offense, Will…

  11. willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 9:38 am

mlbtv has Cards thrashing Opie game 1 2014 NLDS on today, followed by Pops Stargell’s Family from 1979 vs. O’s.
    good stuff

    • willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 9:40 am

How do you explain Kershaw in post season? Same teams and players he’s faced all during regular season, and yet results so different over and over.

  12. sandog said, on May 17, 2020 at 9:50 am

Chuck with Haad guess deserves serious credit. Partial credit as well to those who guessed players whose card was included in my mailings, including Jim Ray Hart and Bill Madlock.
Everything on the back of the card is true, and amazingly, I played golf with Will Poarch last Saturday and am attending Doug Torres’ wedding next month.
Johnny Ramirez and I got along, but never really hung out. Haven’t seen him sine the mid 80’s, ironically in San Luis Obispo, where I am now. I do remember that he was one of those oddball throw left, bat right guys like Rucky Henderson and Cleon Jones.

    • willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:20 am

      Just noticed the glove…what model?

    • chipower9 said, on May 18, 2020 at 9:25 am

Ha. My son is a throw left, bat right guy, too. When I got him his first wiffle ball bat at about age 2 or so, he would without coaching/prodding, switch hit.

  13. Macdog said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:07 am

I knew the card had to be a ’73 front! I guess Shea Stadium wasn’t available for the background.

    • sandog said, on May 17, 2020 at 1:33 pm

Shea and Candlestick were both used a ton for those photos, which is pretty funny. Not two of the most glamorous parks ever.

  14. Macdog said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:28 am

If only there was a Manny Trillo jersey to put on the tree . . .

  15. unca_chuck said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:39 am

I have a Ryan Sandberg glove that looks a lot like that one.

  16. sandog said, on May 17, 2020 at 10:58 am

    Test

  17. sandog said, on May 17, 2020 at 11:00 am

I’ve tried to post about the fucking glove twice now, but they are disappearing.
Its a huge ass Bobby Grich model Rawlings. Good SB glove.

    • willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 12:03 pm

yeah looks great. Wilson A2K was big by time I stopped. Looked up Rawlings gloves online, yikes $250-$350.

  18. willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 11:58 am

Loo re:11:19 Bonds homer off Percival, yes that was absolutely crushed. They kept showing the Angels guy in dugout saying that’s farthest ball he’d ever seen hit.

    • djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 2:30 pm

It’s Tim Salmon, who I could never hate after that.
He said it twice – as if he had to convince himself of what he had just witnessed…

  19. snarkk said, on May 17, 2020 at 12:12 pm

KNBR keeps playing the 2010-12-14 playoff games on the radio on weekends on a rotating basis How many times do they think we are going to listen to this? Cumulus must be in dire straits. They won’t even play the CBS network sports radio feed, which I assume costs more money than real local second string on air talent that gets paid nothing. I get there is not much sports to talk about, but what are they going to do, play these 3 playoff runs on a rota for the next 50 weekends? In between replays of the 2019 Niner playoff run, I guess. At least 95.7 runs the Fox sports radio feed, which half the time has armchair epidemiologist ignoramuses clamoring for nearly unfettered sports competitions to start rolling short of crowds attending because we “need it”. More like they “need it” so they don’t have to be creative on radio. They’re pretty good at butchering the names of Bundesliga teams, I’ll give them that — “Bay earn” Munich indeed…

Yeah, I remember that one. Huge September win that year. Giants kept doing that stuff while the Pads were busy losing 10 in a row or some such…

    • pawliekokonuts said, on May 17, 2020 at 7:12 pm

I remember that too. Didn’t Magnus post a version from a Flapper in the stands? I don’t recall the audio of the Dodger fan losing it.

  21. mrsprtdude said, on May 17, 2020 at 1:32 pm

#41 on Athletic top 50 SF Giants homers. Crazy that I have seen 4 of them ( assuming that Morgan and B johnson make it. They are down to 15. This one i saw with my friend Greg! Great Dodger fan commentary!

  22. djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 3:50 pm

Do they still throw the ball around the horn in the majors?
    It’s a great tradition…

Is it obvious when I’m posting on acid?

      • Flavor said, on May 17, 2020 at 4:29 pm

yes it is. You are actually coming through my screen as a hologram and you’re speaking the words that you’re typing. It’s trippin me out, man.

  23. zumiee said, on May 17, 2020 at 4:46 pm

“How do you explain Kershaw in post season? Same teams and players he’s faced all during regular season, and yet results so different over and over.”

I think it’s just a fluke. Bad breaks for him. We Giants fans dig his playoff misfortunes, but I think it’s just freaky flukes.
Game 5 in the ‘17 World Series vs. the Astros, in Houston, though, had to be the Astros doing their trash can thing. Kershaw got lit up like we’ve never seen.

  24. willedav said, on May 17, 2020 at 4:49 pm

    OK, trivia:
Mays hit 4 HRs April of 1961
Can you name next national leaguer to do it, almost 15 years later?

    • Flavor said, on May 17, 2020 at 4:52 pm

immediate instinct was Gary Matthews but I don’t know for sure if he ever pulled off this feat. Just a gut call here.

yes April 7 1976. First 2 were off Big Daddy, having tough day with wind blowing out at Wrigley.

  28. pawliekokonuts said, on May 17, 2020 at 7:15 pm

Is Cutch’s extra-inning homer off the Dodgers in 2018 in the top 50?

    • djloo27 said, on May 17, 2020 at 8:09 pm

Not sure about Cutch, but don’t you think your man Manny Burriss’ only career homer should’ve made the cut, Pawlie? Do you know who he hit it off? I bet Manny knows…

  29. mrsprtdude said, on May 17, 2020 at 8:51 pm

Not so far on Cutch, and seems unlikely since barry’s 73, Snow, Belt in the 18th have already gone by….

  30. willedav said, on May 18, 2020 at 9:21 am

oh shoot–hope Arthur doesn’t impact outer banks of Carolina and all Bozos safe and sound.

    • Bozo said, on May 18, 2020 at 10:43 am

Thanks for checking Willie, so far Arthur has just dumped a bunch of rain some wind gusts but not much (hope I didn’t just jinx it).
IMO, I’m facing more of hazard from all the people coming here right now. Before this weekend our county was opened only for residents, they had checkpoints setup checking IDs to make sure you lived here, all others were turned away. They opened up the beaches at 12:01 am Saturday morning. There were cars lined up on the side of the roads just waiting for the checkpoints to open it up. They’ve been streaming in ever since.

Is it too late to get a tee shirt made up that says “Mask It, or Casket”?

  31. unca_chuck said, on May 18, 2020 at 10:29 am

This is hilarious. And completely true.

  32. willedav said, on May 18, 2020 at 10:43 am

Interesting that Jackson was still telling Bulls about their breathing and reminding them to “center yourself” before championship games. He did believe in value to players of some very Zen concepts while preparing to play.

    • Bozo said, on May 18, 2020 at 4:40 pm

If you get a chance Willie, you might want to check out The History of White People in America, also with Martin Mull. That one and Fernwood are two of my favs.
