Goodell Hates Charity Lol
Have you guys been following this charity fiasco with the NFL and Dave Portnoy? They held some auction, highest bidder was going to get to watch a game with Roger Goodell. But apparently Portnoy won it for 250K and the NFL cancelled it. Lol, WTF?
Here is the barstool president not too happy about it:
wow the guy definitely got screwed over, another bad look for Goodell and NFL.
Meanwhile I hope MLB can straighten things out and play reduced schedule that would end close to what it would normally be as opposed to NBA and NFL who are gonna be ending later and start at different times whenever their next season begins.
Interesting thought from Mike Axisa–one way for MLB to recoup some of the losses would be to expand by 2 more teams in near future and even out scheduling. The buy in prices for new teams would be very high. Plus 2 new teams means another 50-60 ML players plus coaches and many more in minors to stock franchises so union would likely be on board.
I usually go with a less political method of getting dismissed from jury duty:
S-s-s-s-tut-t-t-t-tterring
I’ve seen a guy do something similar. He hemmed and hawed answering the questions, including his name. He was so indecisive on all the questions that when the judge asked him if had some concerns, he slowly said what a big responsibility jury duty was, the lawyers for both sides immediately excused the guy.
2 MORE teams?
Yeah ssss-tut-t-t-treeing definitely would work along with Tourette’s Symptoms..
Man is was a guarantee that Oakland was going to get ugly last night with riots, one federal officer killed, several people injured, stores looted,Mercedes dealership fucked up with graffiti on the cars and one torched! Typical O town always under duress..More today/tonight??
Tourette’s is a great idea and more fun!
Thought u might like that one.Unlimted potential coming out of your mouth and twitching..
Duress? Naw. We have the best weather and the best views in the bay area. Put an Antifa sticker on the bumper of your car and things’ll be fine.
Anybody that uses a cheesy way to get out of jury duty loses all right to complain about any jury decision anywhere in the nation.
I don’t think that’s true. I agree that you shouldn’t lie to get out of jury duty, but many basically honest people do because they have extreme obligations outside the courtroom and they don’t have faith in the judge’s hardship rulings. It’s a strange system. Why should trying to escape it cancel other rights? If you don’t show up at all in response to your summons you’ll probably just pay a fine.
In real life, I report when I get the summons and get dismissed within a couple of days without ever getting interviewed. Probably about 8-10 times in my adult life.
It has never not been a waste of time, but I do it.
Many people just keep throwing them out and never get in any kind of trouble.
They can’t prove you actually received something by regular mail.
I think it’s the summoned person who has the burden to prove that he or she didn’t receive the summons.
How do you do that?
Well you don’t tell the judge during the contempt hearing that you don’t reside at the address on the summons if in fact you do.
I’m surprised that with everything being computerized, they’re not more on top of it.
I know at least 3 people well over 60 y.o. who’ve never served in their lives.
They just keep tossing ’em and no one tracks them down.
And these are steadily employed people – even business owners – not transient lunatics.
The post office does not have a great reputation, so I guess that could be behind it.
Plus, how many things get thrown out because they look like scams or junk mail?
Plenty of excuses if they ever crack down…
I’ve heard of bench warrants being issued for non-appearance. Not something you want hanging out there if you’re pulled over for rolling through a stop sign. But I know no one who ignored a jury summons and actually got nailed for contempt of court.
I served on a jury in a trial once. It was actually a very interesting and educational experience.
I would love to be on a jury, especially in a short (one week or less) trial.
I was on jury for a 3-day trial. The whole experience really was interesting.
At the end the jury deliberated for about 4 hours. The jury room was very basic. Just enough room for a big table and 12 chairs. The bailiff locked us in. We had to knock on the door to request anything. The jury was split at the beginning of deliberations, and we discussed the testimony and evidence thoroughly, and eventually, without pressuring each other, came to a consensus. It was actually a great thing to watch 12 strangers take their civic duty seriously, and all have their say, and come to a decision that we all agreed with after 4 hours.
Obviously, I’ve never seen an actual jury deliberate. But in few big cases, I watched, through one-way windows, large focus groups as they received presentations of evidence (videotaped deposition excerpts, opposing lawyers’ arguments, etc.) and then, in groups of twelve, “deliberated” and voted. The experiences were terrifying. And always illuminating. But that’s litigation.
ESPN is showing Johnsonville Sausage Cornhold championship from Vegas!
Yeah it’s getting desperate times out there!

For Cal fans, Pac 12 net will show last year’s Stanford game and some old one vs. SC and Oregon tmw.
We have a justice system in the U.S. where it’s almost impossible to put police behind bars for murder. They can always claim they felt threatened by something, anything, and the DA and/or the jury say “go free.”
Black people have had it with 400 years of this.
3rd degree murder charge?A joke.
This cop if he even goes to prison will be out faster then Stix’s sentence..
T O and Amani toomer, local guy out of famed DeLaSalle HS.
I never heard this trivia question so I researched it.
Who is the only pitcher to give up a homer to all 3 Alou brothers?
BTW, Felipe hit 7 career homers off Koufax in just 68 AB.
That was the most he hit off any pitcher.
McCovey had only 1 off Koufax in 42 AB…
Ray Sadecki?
I think I saw Sadecki on 1 or 2 of their HR logs, but only 1 guy is on all 3…
Two out of three vs. Sadecki.
That playoff game 2002 was a trip…lot of lucky things fell Niners way. Mooch’s last W too as they lost to Tampa next week and he was fired. T O and Garcia only lasted another year, just like Fassel. Giants eventually got back at T O 5 yrs later in playoffs and won SB over Pats.
I don’t know if anyone saw it but that SpaceX launch was spectacular. Made me feel good about our country if only for a little while. Totally inspiring.
totally agree, Winder.
Al Jackson?
Hint:
He was by far the winningest ML pitcher from this foreign country…
Juan Marichal?
Different country…
Felipe did have his way with Marichal…
Yeah, the other two didn’t.
Fergie Jenkins?
You got it, Mac!
Very overshadowed HOFer.
Hard to believe he was only a 3X All-star….
The guy that smoked a cigar and was overweight.
Tiant
Whoops. Never mind.
yeah good guess Mac! I was just looking him up to see when he first pitched
i’ve never been called for jury duty. Why is that?
I can guess, but I’m trying to back out of this discussion. 🙂 Everyone I know who’s registered to vote gets a jury summons every year. I think the counties use other public records to ID people, too. Santa Clara County can’t be that much different than SF or Alameda.
Because you probably throw the summons in the garbage without opening it…
So I’m registered to vote, always. I’ve moved around a little in my life but not crazy moves and I’ve lived the last 15 years in the same place. I open and read everything, I didn’t throw it out. Next?
somehow you’ve slipped through the cracks. I’m sure the Santa Clara County Superior Court would love to hear from you about it.
In March, I received my second jury summons for this twelve-month period — just before the SIP order came down. The court canceled all jury trials and rescinded all jury summonses. I’d already used up my one six-month automatic deferral. I bet I’ll be hearing from them again by the end of the year. I won’t go. I’m old and I have several pre-existing conditions, including aversion to CV19.
I’d definitely do it, I’m not against it, no one has ever asked me
Man your lucky Flavor, I seemed to get hit up every year for awhile.Served on 2 juries, one acquittal, one hang em high.( well actually a manslaughter conviction) I cringed every time I got a notice along with a few shouted out expletives! I’ve had a variety of other scenarios, u call in the morning of and they say no jurors needed in your pool numbers, are your on standby and call back later, are you drive in sit around for 3-4 freakin hours and then get dismissed. If your on a jury the one thing they can’t hit u up usually for a few years later by law especially on a criminal trial I’ve heard where you might even be sequestered ( think OJ ,Scott Petersen etc)
All this talk about jury service got me thinking. I wonder how many summonses (sp?) arrived for me at some address back in the US over the past 16 years I’ve been over here. Oops. Previously I did answer the call a few times, but never served. One time I was actually seated on the jury. A family of a small girl was suing the city of Boston because the girl drowned in a city-run swimming pool. That was going to be a sad case and take weeks. Fortunately, at the last minute, the attorney for the plaintiff excused me, ostensibly because at that time I was working for an enginnering firm that had a lot of contracts with the city. Didn’t have to pull out the “I love my City Government” t-shirt.
Watching news coverage of the huge protests in the streets tonight and reading about the right-wing agitators trying to spark violence, I took a look at the boogaloo movement. It’s as crazy and racist as you might imagine; but what really puzzles me is how the hell did they appropriate this name?
can’t watch it tonight. See you guys tomorrow, hopefully.
My favorite boogaloo song
