As xoot mentioned the other night sports channel had Cutch 6 hit walkoff bomb on . Last night was Aug 2016 game where Craw had 7 hits including game winner in 14th vs. Marlins. At the time he was hitting .278 with an OPS of .783, 3rd on team behind Belt at .883 and Posey 825. Giants were 16 games over .500 at 64-48.

The Marlins at that time hadn’t been dismantled and still had OF of Yelich Ozuna and Stanton. Crawford had more rbis, 70, than any of them. George Kontos got the W. 2016 seems like apex.

Never cared for DH myself, but if players (key word here) are in on it as part of their proposal, then it’s happening. and you can argue that just as much strategy will take place with a real hitter at the plate/on base 4 times a game instead of a pitcher. Giants (like every NL team) 3/5 took down 3 AL teams and used DH to their advantage. Smart mgr will use this to his advantage.

Hey think of it this way–if Giants need as much offense as possible, it can’t hurt. Plus it allows for a guy like Dickerson or younger guy like Bart or Davis and Dubon to be part of LU more often.

High Larry U$…With the Potus delving into deeper and deeper levels of galloping dementia and the alternative barely able to string together a couple of cogent sentences, American voters are confronted with such a choice in November.

So maybe the big issue is who gets to be the former Veep’s choice for that position. Both of those old boys are in my own age-range, but neither is truly qualified to be acting as the chief executive. The incumbent is the evil of two lessers, but who does that give us in the probability that both of them are apt to slide over the edge of the precipice before November 2024 and/or January 2025.

Just hoping it isn’t Kamala Harris. As an ex prosticutor –and a mean one–she scares the bejeebers outta me. Believe me, prosticutors are vile, venal and vicious.

Biden is crushing Trump in polls right now. But, of course, it’s a long ways to November.
And people need to make sure to vote. Vote in such large numbers that it makes all GOP voter suppression tactics irrelevant.

A Fox News poll, of all things, has it currently:
      Biden: 50%
      Trump: 38%

College football players beginning to return; story out of UT (Texas) and Baylor said some have tested positive/in isolation. Interested to see how schools handle this; hope football can return, even if fans in stadiums severely restricted.

  5. Stan Shell said, on June 19, 2020 at 8:21 am

Here you go, guys. I’ve been saying no NFL until 2021. Today’s news has Fauci saying this:

Previously, Fauci has warned the intimate nature of football makes it highly conducive to spreading the virus.

“That’s the perfect setup for spreading (the virus),” Fauci said last month. “I would think that if there is an infected football player on the field – a middle linebacker, a tackle, whoever it is it – as soon as they hit the next guy, the chances are that they will be shedding virus all over that person.”

Stix, Biden may not be the perfect choice for Prexy, but in these times he has been selected by the process we currently have. I can’t stand to hear progressives whine that “he’s too old/ he was part of the law and order crew of the 70-80s/he’s not progressive enough. Bullshit! Saddle up! The creature in the White House is a true threat to the state of this flawed democracy. We have to get rid of the Trump infection to go forward toward a better country.
Criticizing a less than perfect alternative is feeding the same dynamics that elected the worse and most dangerous President in history. Saddle up for the whole democratic ticket or risk losing the country.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on June 19, 2020 at 9:23 am

Stan, any time I hear the words “going forward” or “go forward”, I, as a radical centrist, totally loyal to the Bill of Rights and the ultimate sovereignty of WE THE PEOPLE, cringe at the p.c.silliness. Go forward into what? Aldous Huxley’s incredibly prescient Brave New World, in an orderly manner, perhaps?

The Deep $tate does exist and even the Trumpeting Elephant got that right (if little else). Are you, perchance, a Democrat party loyalist? I partied with both the Demolicans and the Repooplicrats in the past. In the maturity of elderhood, I have “put away childish things.” Both parties are controlled from the top down via their central committees who take their orders from the minions of Highest Finance via the Bu$h and Rockefeller Crime Families.

There are four levels of political awareness: (1.) Micropolitics, whose adherents BELIEVE that D’s or R’s are for real: (2) Macropolitics: The oxymoronic, edjumicated beyond any possible remaining tendrils of common-sense, “political science” attainers of advanced degrees of absorbtion into the adjustment-racket: (3) Megapolitics: Those who are insiders–minions–well aware of much of the behind the scenes chicanery, but siamese-twinned to the agenda under which they personally prosper and: (4) Metapolitics, a zone generally occupied by human white-blood cells of the ambulatory description, who have delved deeply into a myriad of possible perspectives to the point where misinformation and disinformation sources are considered and discarded. In this realityscape, one must ever maintain a sense of balance, trust one’s own intuition as well as rational analysis and refuse all calls to fear-programming and developing a herd mentality.

      • xoot said, on June 19, 2020 at 8:45 am

,. Much grass for the perfect remedy. Reminds me of dishwashing day back at the old shack, without running water or a drain from the sink. Heated the H2O on the wood-burning cookstove and also during the cold months in Manysnota, atop the wood-heater in the living-room. For all of that I needed fortification: mellow bowling-lesson followed by a couple shots of Jack and then over to the stereo and plopping in the vintage vinyl of Sly and the Family Stone commencing with “Dance to the Music.”

      • xoot said, on June 19, 2020 at 9:50 am

I’d be glad to take you up on that mucha grass — my favorite weed dispensary here in Oakland got robbed by a gang of about 20 people late last month. Cleaned out the inventory. Magnolia Wellness. They’re still recuperating. Dozens of other local pot portals got hit in the same week.

Yee Haa! Reminds me of Abe Lincoln’s sage observation: “…you can fool some of the people all the time.” Most Oklahomans with a lick of sense got and gone a long time ago. Maybe there’s something in the red-clay water.

The power of the media is showing it’s glowing head. Slanted on every side and bombarding us with mis/partial information to a degree that is numbing the senses. I have never meditated before but i think that might just be the key to focus for the long-term( if the virus lets us older people have a long term). I don’t really know anything about Biden except he is old and used to be our vice president. I do know about Trump and that he was a con man decades ago and is still a con man who is obviously out for self interest. The big problem with that is his self interest seems to coincide with a large American populations self interest and who don’t give a shit about the constitution or much of anything else that our forefathers spent their lives trying to protect. I believe Bolton’s book over anything that comes out of Trumps mouth.

“11:35am: The Phillies issued the following statement:

In response to published reports and the questions that those reports have raised, the Phillies are confirming that 5 players and 3 staff members working at the club’s Clearwater facility have tested positive for Covid-19. The first confirmed case occurred this past Tuesday, June 16. In addition, 8 staff members have tested negative for the virus, while 12 staff members and 20 players (both major league and minor league players) living in the Clearwater area are in the process of being tested and are awaiting the results of those tests. … In terms of the implications of this outbreak on the Phillies’ 2020 season, the club declines comment, believing that it is too early to know.”

I was checking out the Giants contracts, basically years left..
If they’re is no baseball they have 16 players signed just for 2020 led by Shark, Pence,Panda,Gausman etc
So they’re should be a lot of potential roster spots up for grabs next year. And if they’re is no baseball do these players all get their salaries I assume they’re guaranteed? So example Shark gets his 18mil doesn’t play and walks after this year with a nice vacation to boot..🏖

    • willedav said, on June 19, 2020 at 10:23 am

mm they get the year of service AK, but if no baseball is played I think the most they get is 4% but not sure.
So that means Smardz is an FA, Cueto Belt Craw one more season on contract yada yada.

  12. gianthead said, on June 19, 2020 at 10:33 am

There was an early Aug 2016 poll Hillary at 48% Trump at 39%….how did that work out???

    • gianthead said, on June 19, 2020 at 10:36 am

Registered voter polls are worth spit…any one in the election world knows that is the case. Likely voter models are the only ones close to being possibly accurate. Look at the registered voter poll data…they always always always over sample Democrats. Mmm anyone find that curious that they intentionally over sample Dems? Why Hillary polling was well ahead of Trump all 2016 even going into the election…

      • xoot said, on June 19, 2020 at 10:47 am

why is an incumbent tanking so badly?

Trump has nothing to run on. Even the Supreme Court decisions have disappointed his cult.
And there are more bad news polls for Trump. He’s not doing well in polls in battleground states.
Biden is doing far better in polls that Hillary did vs. Trump in polls.

“It Can’t Happen Here,” by Sinclair Lewis is great, too. The title is used ironically. The point by Lewis is it CAN happen here.

      • Carstie Clausen said, on June 19, 2020 at 6:20 pm

Bit confused as its been a few years. Was it Sinclair Lewis, the Minnesota nobelist or Upton Sinclair, the California hellraiser, who came fairly close on a very radical platform to get himself elected governor of the Golden State? Spose I could do a websearch but a bit lazy now after a bit too much not so great chile verde delivered to the door here.

  19. snarkk said, on June 19, 2020 at 11:43 am

The NBA choosing the middle of Florida, a raging cesspool of increased Covid infection, to have its playoff party isn’t turning out to be such a good idea. That bubble better be pretty tight. I’m starting to think that yes, maybe the Republicans are pushing wide open business so that by November we’ll be in full blown pandemic, and nobody will even want to venture out to the polls. That’s why they’re preventing vote by mail where it’s not already available. Voter suppression is the only way they can keep from being beaten at the ballot box..

    • Flavor said, on June 19, 2020 at 11:53 am

exactly. We are not going to be having an election in Nov, it will get postponed. Book it.

      • zumiee said, on June 19, 2020 at 12:08 pm

BF, I’ve been worrying about this for the last 2 years, but I don’t think he will be able to pull it off. He would need the military to back him up and they have told him to fuck off.

      • Winder said, on June 19, 2020 at 12:40 pm

I do believe that the GOP with Trump saying whatever is not gonna be enough to cancel the election. I worry more about Trump starting a war with someone before that.

  20. zumiee said, on June 19, 2020 at 11:45 am

Hillary was always swimming upstream against her own poor likability rating. Biden scores much higher than her on that. The “would you want to hang out and have a beer with this person?” question.
I can’t imagine having a beer with Trump the sociopath. He has no real interest in other people other than his daughter. He’s all B.S. all the time. Who enjoys hanging out with a total B.S.-er? That would get old quickly.

The election likely will be mail-in if we get COVID-20, Electric Boogaloo. Despite what Trumpo is crowing about, he’s losing support from more and more people, including the military, and beyond that, Congress has the control to postpone the election, not Donnie Douchebag.

Funny thing is, if Trump DID postpone the election, say to April 2021, Twitler and (feckless) Pence would still lose their jobs on Jan 20, 2021, and Nancy Pelosi would become president as the next in succession.

Still and all though if the Senate doesn’t flip, we are still fucked with Moscow Mitch McFuckface in the Senate, unless HE loses. He has done more damage to this country and anyone these past 10 years.

If there ever was a time for the lazy-ass Dems to get out the vote it is now. Jesus. The Dems make up 65% of the voting population. They shouldn’t be losing any goddamn elections.

Arizona is in the middle of a huge spike in Covid since the idiotic governor opened up everything, no masks just fine. I used to go to Phoenix every quarter or so on business, but no more. After this spike showed no signs of slowing, he finally allowed yesterday local authorities to make their own rules on masks. Phoenix and Tucson mayors are now requiring masks of everyone going indoors in public places. The rest of the world is looking at us and wondering WTF is wrong with us? I think soon other countries will put a stop to flights out of the US to their countries. No baseball or basketball is the least of our worries right now…

AZ is probably the next to last place I’d want to be right now.

In last Sunday’s SF Chronicle, they published journal entries from a guy who went through a battle with the virus. He’s in his 40s. The journal is harrowing and fascinating. He lives by himself. He is now recovered.

Southern California as baseball “bubble” location?
Big A and Disneyland in Orange County?
Lots of people in the OC claiming right to refuse to wear masks, despite state order. And, sheriff won’t enforce. Look for a Covid spike there, too…

AK Trent Taylor is fully recovered from his Jones surgery. He should be a solid slot guy.

California had their biggest spike in cases today. Protest numbers I’d think.

    • snarkk said, on June 19, 2020 at 4:38 pm

Likely. And the protests were outside, with many wearing masks.
There’s a reason you have to sign a waiver to attend the Tulsaberg Indoor Rally und Führerfest…

BTW, I’m not getting tired of the Drump missives to you BF, demanding cash. Funny.
Maybe Gianthead can squeeze you into the next rally without having to pay up your dues as one of the select Drumpf 100 Suckers Club. Hell, that’s 600 more prestigious than Pat Robertson’s 700 Club !…

my favorite part was that 91 Patriots had already paid up and taken the lead on me so I had better act quick as I battle the final 9 for the remaining spots.

I like that the first two words are Fuck you. That’s not exactly a welcoming intro to try and get you to join the Club.

I like to hear about trump’s algorithmic cultivation and solicitation of FU. The automatic shamelessness echoes the asshole’s actual ethos. FU could be a hit on twitter.

I don’t pay attention to Ca numbers in terms of worrying or not worrying about me and my family. You have to track this shit by county.

Giants retro game being shown is from May 3 2019 at Reds. Debut game of Nick Senzel for cincy, pops out to CF in his first AB as Pillar makes diving grab. 2 outs nobody on Beede gives up 3 runs then can’t get out of 3rd Giants go down 8-0. Obviously if they are showing it, epic comeback that took 11. Our old buddy Puig was in RF for Reds.

    • willedav said, on June 19, 2020 at 6:53 pm

Nick Vincent gives up HR in 5th, Reds lead 10-3…wasn’t gonna be enough for sonny Gray.

Vietnam is still not allowing int’l flights in, except repatriation of overseas VNmese (mandatory quarantine upon arrival of course) but the gov’t has a somewhat long list of countries it is considering allowing in soon (mandatory quarantine upon arrival of course). No surprise, the US is not even on that list.. nor will it be til probably next year. My 2020 US trip is definitely cancelled.

As for the Tulsa rally, Trump really has nothing to lose by holding it. If there isn’t a major spike within a week or two of the rally, that will be a huge victory for him and the “open things up!” crowd. If there is a spike, no one really seems to care, they’ll still vote for Trump. As is often the case, his re-electability will probably hinge almost solely on the state of the economy come autumn. 40% will definitely vote Trump, 40% definitely Biden, it’s that 20% or so in the middle who will go with “it’s the economy, stupid”. Lots can and probably will happen between now and the election.

Still chuckling about Trump’s constant missives to Mr. Fuck.

    • Flavor said, on June 19, 2020 at 8:12 pm

nothing to lose? Are you kidding, Trump WANTS a battle. He wants a riot. Nothing would please this fuck more than watching the Plebeians fighting it out below him while he watches from above, silent and smiling.

Once when i returned one of those GOP surveys and donation letters my Father had been receiving, I included a donation: a 10,000 VN dong note I happened to have with me. That’s about 45 cents.
