A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Not Quite The Test of The Champion

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 20, 2020

Never has a day felt less like Belmont Stakes day than today. Running it as the first leg of the triple crown is kludgy as is the distance of only a mile and an eight. Tiz the Law may be tough but I like Pneumatic and/or Farmington Road to possibly upset him.

There are people who just died with their face in a rictus who look more real than that. He’s “sporting” the most uncomfortably forced smile ever.

yahoo had 3 minute clip from Blues Brothers movie of the big car chase in Chicago underneath the El, etc.
Pretty funny stuff. Apparently they wrecked 100 police cars and there were more than a few bluesmobiles used to film the movie, which is now 40 yrs old iirc. Anyone have the soundtrack? At one point (Messin with the Kid?) Belushi mentions Willie Mabon, who had a big hit with “I don’t Know” a great song.

Giants sign anyone they drafted beside the DeLaSalle HS kid? Seems every day I see more and more of these on MLBTR, but no other Giants not counting the non-draft signees.

F/G has column on inevitability of universal DH in next CBA or in other words forever. Something I didn’t know, based on fact that many of the AL guys doing it were older higher priced vets, “…Players Association sought the universal DH in negotiations for the 2011 and 2016 CBAs.” hmmnn since it’s part of players proposal guess we can’t blame it on doofus Manfred.

    • Bozo said, on June 20, 2020 at 9:49 am

Farhan didn’t get Bishop and 2nd rounder Logan Wyatt signed until the end of June last year. Both signed under their slots. I’m sure he’s trying to do the same with Bailey and Schmitt this year. MLB pushed back the signing deadline for 2020 to August 1.

Flav- something you said in the last thread about trump wanting a battle. I not only think he wants a battle, i think he wants another civil war. Comments like the ‘only good democrat is a dead democrat’ truly come from his black heart. It is gonna be interesting just what he says today in Tulsa. He’s got his new sidekick Kayley(sp) with him for the trip( true evil in a pixi package). I am sure she is there to help fire up the crowd. Actually i would like to be there just to take it all in(wearing gloves and a mask).

see? Fuck voting. They’re not going to allow it or they’re going to rig it.

    • gianthead said, on June 20, 2020 at 10:43 am

Lol Flav. You are totally over the deep end brother. KENTUCKY HAS A DEMOCRAT GOVERNOR!!! JEFFERSON COUNTY IS A DEMOCRAT COUNTY!!!

Unless you think these Democrats are conspiring against black Democrats…Lol!!

      • Stan Shell said, on June 20, 2020 at 12:34 pm

GH, maybe. The current political landscape is littered with recent GOP legislatures over ruling the new demo governors with voting decisions. We will see. If it is true do you think that is a good and valid activity for our poor country. Poor, as in the rest of the western world showing pity on us.
        Please answer.

Game 7 of the 2014 WS is on here. Bottom of the 5th, Bum on the mound 1 out, man on second SF up 3-2.
Bum gets out of it, still 3-2 after 5.

Kentucky elections are run by the Kentucky Secretary of State, Michael Adams, a Republican.
I don’t know why GH can’t seem to understand the concept of who actually runs elections in the states. It’s been explained several times on the Flap.

    • xoot said, on June 20, 2020 at 12:24 pm

I think the democratic governor issued an executive order directing the sec. of state to take certain measures. I can’t find anything to suggest that the repubs are responsible for forcing all of Louisville into one station to vote for Booker, the African American primary candidate who’s suddenly threatening McConnell. It’ll be an interesting primary to dissect on Wednesday. Man, wouldn’t it be great to see that monstrous self-dealing elitist go down in Nov. Booker’s shaken things. (McGrath has lost ground to him, apparently.)

  10. Bozo said, on June 20, 2020 at 11:58 am

What a great game this was. I forgot about the OF kicking the ball around in the 9th and found myself starting to get nervous, again.

  11. zumiee said, on June 20, 2020 at 12:02 pm

There’s also all the ought-to-be-illegal unethical gerrymandering of Congressional districts that’s been done by GOP-controlled state legislatures in the last 10 years.
The Republican Party doesn’t really believe in democracy anymore. That’s the bottom line. Instead of changing some of their agenda to reach out to more people, they resort to voter suppression tactics.

  12. zumiee said, on June 20, 2020 at 12:09 pm

6 Trump campaign staffers working on the rally in Tulsa have tested positive for the virus.
That indoor rally is a giant virus-fest of 19,000 honkeys.

  14. zumiee said, on June 20, 2020 at 1:09 pm

I hope Kentucky’s Governor did what he could to fight voter suppression; but he’s only been on the job about 6 months, and all of the rest of the State government is dominated by Republicans.
Get things fixed by November, hopefully.
Vote by mail remains the best option; but, of course, the GOP is against it. That would be too many voters voting. Can’t have that.

    • zumiee said, on June 20, 2020 at 1:15 pm

As a new governor he walked right into a buzz-saw with the virus situation.

    • xoot said, on June 20, 2020 at 1:21 pm

I sent an inquiry to a Lexington lawyer friend who’s politically connected. He may be at some Belmont Stakes viewing party right now, but he’ll get back with some insight. As I’ve said on here before, there are more registered demos in KY than registered repubs. Republ senators notwithstanding, Demo KY governors are pretty common. The state seems to flip Govs back and forth sort of the way Calif. does — or did, until recently. We may be done with that stuff. Anyway, if Booker wins the primary, his campaign vs. McConnell will be something. Both parties will open the funding floodgates.

      • xoot said, on June 20, 2020 at 4:56 pm

Saw one report that the one big polling place in Louisville has been open all week for early voting. Also, anyone in KY who requested a mail-in ballot got one, it seems.

Geez a real shocker, 30 plus LSU football players to be quarantined after partying at a nightclub in Louisiana.
Opening up bars right now is freakin stupid. And if they don’t go to bars it will be Animal House Frat Parties that they will contract it from..Good chance they’re won’t be college football this year. And Pro’s I would think very dicey as well.Although with betting, fantasy leagues,Draft King etc they will somehow play till it gets shutdown.

I guess those Okies are smarter than I thought. Chi – you are doing God’s work.

Now we have Barr saying Trump fired district judge Berman, and Trump saying “I’m not involved.”

This of course after Barr announced Berman’s retirement when Berman was not planning on retiring. Berman stuck around long enough to ensure that Barr didn’t install yet another knob-gobbling sycophant in place of Berman’s rightful successor Audrey Strauss.

I suppose for the Republicans, the dots are too hard to connect from Berman to his investigation of Rudy Draculani and other Trump confidantes. Even if Trump loses badly, the damage done to our country will take 10-20 years to overcome.

The hope is the Dems get the Senate at least, if not the presidency. Then they can do away with voter suppression, gerrymandering, the fucking electoral college, and Citizens United.

The Republicans will then be relegated to the garbage dump of history. Down there with the Know nothings. And 3rd prty candidates would at least have a tinker’s change at getting elected.

Hey, I voted for Reagan over Mondale. I’m not a strictly party-line guy. I’ve voted all over the place and across the lines all the time. But if the Republican party of Mitch Fucktard, Ted Blobfish, and Paul Ryan remains intact, then they should all burn in hell and be relegated to the trailer parks of Mississippi and Alabama. All the republican party stands for now is enabling rich white people and corporations, dividing the country, taxing the middle class out of existence, suppressing the will of the people, and arming the police/military to the hilt at the cost of doing anything for the citizens of the country.

Blues Brothers for me. The music is spectacular.

Fucking Trump is such a candy-ass entitled little fuck. What a vile piece of shit. All he has is hate and divisiveness. The protesters kept people out of the rally? Doesn’t he get that the people walking in didn’t see that? I guess they have to simply believe what Trump says rather than what they saw with their own eyes. That invisible Antifa roadblock kept 800,000 people out of Tulsa!

He’s certifiably brain-dead. Let’s stop testing? Brilliant! I swear to God, this guy couldn’t tie his own shoes.

    • Macdog said, on June 20, 2020 at 6:26 pm

Not sure if it’s true, but looks like the youth of American punked Trump by “buying” up tickets to the rally so the campaign thought they had a million ticket requests. Too funny.

According to the Trump polls, they also are winning the election 52% to 48%., However, if you read or study the footnotes, approximately 10% of the voters are named “Fuck You.”

  27. xoot said, on June 20, 2020 at 8:36 pm

This trump humiliation is great. But remember the summer of 2016, when trump was struggling. His campaign manager Manafort got booted out and it looked like he was going down fast. But the billionaire Mercers took over, with their dark money and dark IT and social media dominance (including Cambridge Analytica), and trump resurfaced. These current blunders beg for saviors. He and the repubs will sell out to anyone who can help steal the election. We got a long way to go.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on June 20, 2020 at 8:45 pm

Agreed, I still think he’ll get re-elected especially if the economy is doing ok a few months from now. Just not sure Biden and the Dems can put together a meaningful, coherent campaign to convince the middle 20% to get out and vote for him. But yes, this momentary humiliation is fun to watch, as will be the aftermath as the Orange Madman unravels a bit further.

Read Newsweek story about 10 days old noted if election were held today according to polls the Incumbent would lose Michigan Ohio Pennsylvania Arizona and Wisconsin, all states where he won previously, some cases by very slim margin. Popularity running about dead even with Carter and GW Bush, last 2 to lose their attempts at re election. hmmnn
