idk doesn’t look good. Union wanted 70 games, Owners set on 60. so they are at odds over handful of games, when postseason would start yada yada. Sounds like recipe for self destruction.

  2. zumiee said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:44 am

The union said it’s going to take a few days to discuss among themselves the news about the shut-down of facilities due to some players testing positive for the virus.

  3. Winder said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:45 am

Just about half the regular season is over and virus #’s are climbing. i doubt any sports kick off any time soon.

  4. zumiee said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:51 am

“The MLB Players Association, recognizing the coronavirus outbreaks in key baseball states, will take another day or two before officially voting on the commissioner’s proposal of a 60-game season, an industry source said. The players will use that time to further discuss the proposed health and safety protocols for a 2020 restart.
The PA’s executive board, which features representatives from all 30 teams as well as an eight-members Executive Subcommittee, is expected to vote against the owners’ 60-game concept.
That decision could compel commissioner Rob Manfred to unilaterally implement a schedule of about 50 games, which in turn might cause both sides to file grievances against each other for negotiating in bad faith.”

    • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:55 am

      who summarized that “industry source”?

      • zumiee said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:04 am

This is part of a NY Post article by Joel Sherman and Ken Davidoff.

      • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:07 am

        thanks

      • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:10 am

Sherman’s tweeter feed, circa yesterday, says that mlb closed all 30 mlb camps for “deep cleaning”

  5. xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:52 am

I think both mlb and the union (and the players) have essentially been silent since CV19 rose up in various training camps (Phillies fla. camp being worst, or at least most publicized). So we wait. Maybe someone else heard something new.

Kentucky primary election: my Lexington friend was able to vote by mail for the first time in his life; he said it was “easy” — DL number, SSA number, signature, no sweat. wtf? I’ve been voting by mail for at least six years. I sure as shit never provided DL or SSA.

The KY state board of elections, 50% demo / 50% repub, came up with the CV19 safety scheme: mail in ballots for everyone who asked for them, basically one polling place per county but with long early voting allowed (up to two weeks early in some counties, apparently). A coalition of demos/repubs challenged the scheme in federal court and the judge slapped them down, ruling that the hasty plan was ok under the circumstances.

This primary will decide which demo will face Moscow Mitch in Nov.

    • snarkk said, on June 21, 2020 at 10:01 am

Two weeks early voting is useless if the polling place is 40 miles away…

    • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 11:41 am

aw, them mules is fastern that. Forceful young Louisville City Council rep on tv just now, a black woman who opposed the KY scheme, says that internet access is a big issue. I can imagine so. My lawyer friends, of course, had no trouble logging on to obtain their mail-in ballots.

There’s video out there of Trump’s return to the White House late last night. Leaving the helicopter with his tie undone, hair looking a little disheveled, MAGA hat clutched in his hand, and his face looking very angry.
His rage-tweeting today will probably be epic.

  7. unca_chuck said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:01 am

Here’s the Bolton book. Tried to download it bu too many are accessing it. Sucks that he didn’t talk when he should have.

    • blade3colorado said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:12 am

He wanted to “get paid” (football, boxing, and baseball term. lol).

. . . but he wont, as the government will probably take all his money. However, it does seem the government may not be able to stop the distribution of the book or as “da judge” said, “The horses are already out of the barn.”

  8. alleykat69 said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:18 am

Every Sport is still testing positive with players!!
Niners just had to quarantine 14 players including all 4 QB’s(That would be Jimmy G) in Tennessee (and why are they practicing there?)after 1 player tested positive.
Shutdown all Sports for 2020 and hope 2021 everyone can get back on track..

  9. unca_chuck said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:22 am

Yeah. This year is a wash. It’s only gonna get worse.

  10. zumiee said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:30 am

    For what it’s worth:
“Just under 6,200 people attended President Trump’s campaign rally at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday night, the Tulsa Fire Department said.
Andrew Little, the public information officer for the city fire department, told Forbes that a fire marshal recorded the tally, which indicated that the event fell far short of reaching the arena’s full capacity of 19,000.”

    • blade3colorado said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:02 am

Wow. I bet the DC moron wasn’t happy to read that.

    • alleykat69 said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:05 am

You can bet Trumps campaign managers head is on the chopping block after this dismal turnout..

  11. zumiee said, on June 21, 2020 at 8:38 am

“President Trump quipped at a campaign rally Saturday night that he told White House officials to slow down testing for the novel coronavirus.”

Even his supporters in the arena were like “What?”

    • Bozo said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:09 am

It fits in with his concept that if women never take a pregnancy test, they won’t get pregnant.

  12. Bozo said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:07 am

How do you deep clean a stadium? Is it just the dugout and clubhouse areas or are they cleaning any and all places a person could have touched? Just curious about this big cleaning business, because it seems to me that both the owners and players have been pretty cavalier about Covid-19 and could easily just sign off on some poor sap with a pressure washer coming in.

    • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:16 am

i think first they clean and test the hos, then the hose and the rakes, then both clubhouses, then the hos again

      • Bozo said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:31 am

So you’re saying they have a guy to hose the hos? MLB just loves the designated hitter role.

      • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:49 am

yep. Look it up. Art. 9, Sec. 6, para. 13(b)(iii) in the current draft of the MOU. They’re still dickering over who gets to pick the designated hoser.

  13. willedav said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:32 am

@BNightengale tweets players will vote today on 60 game proposal according to MLBTR.
some interesting replies to his twitter feed.

  14. snarkk said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:44 am

Current science says the Covid may last up to 3 days on some surfaces. Why not just shut down the baseball facilities and leave them alone for 3 days. That’s as good as a “deep cleaning”, I should think…

  15. snarkk said, on June 21, 2020 at 9:45 am

BTW, great photo on this thread from your run, BF.
An apt metaphor for what the owners and players are doing to what has been my lifelong, favorite game…

Snarkk, that 2nd photo will be in a lot of Biden political ads. Total dejection. Yes Xoot, the guillotine for Parscale’s head is being built as we speak.

  19. xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 10:14 am

Well, right in the middle of that astonishingly bad speech, he bragged about how good it was — at least “average” for him — and the bored crowd roared on cue. “Emptysburg” address, one guy called it.

  20. unca_chuck said, on June 21, 2020 at 10:59 am

That pic is a perfect metaphor for baseball, and life in general.

Trump spends 20 minutes on rampzilla but nothing on watergait?

I don’t know if anyone watched trump last night. But, I switched to (ugh) Fox and watched most of it. Here’s the summary:
    1. Trump is a one-trick pony. Change a few names and it’s 2016 all over again.
    2. Even the “loyalists” seemed underwhelmed. The spark for years past is definitely gone.
    3. His ramblings are even more obviously stupid and meaningless. He took about about 10 minutes to talk about his “jawboning Boeing a couple of $B in negotiations.

I were Biden’s campaign chief I would press MSNBC for equal time. Biden should sit in a chair. Play clips of this absurd speech that simply reply with the obvious truths.

Fox News is getting to be more fun every day. Chris Wallace just made a fool out of Mercedes somebody (a Trump mouthpiece).

I don’t even know if stealing a couple of states like Florida and Georgia will save his ass.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in Flapland!

Saw this on Twitter from Atlantic/Forbes contributing writer Christopher Orr:

“Good: Tom Petty’s family telling the Trump campaign to stop using his music (specifically, “I Won’t Back Down”)

Better: If Petty family told Trump campaign they would make an exception for “Free Fallin’.”

Same for you, Snarkk! And everyone else!

  27. xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 1:37 pm

mlbtr channeling nightengale says the teams’ player reps and the exec committee (38 votes total, I think) are voting today on the mob 60-game proposal. Great expectoration is that they’ll reject it and ask for a manfred mandate, instead, to try to preserve grievance rights, and then they’ll accept the mandate.

    • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 1:39 pm

      mlb, not mob

    Flavortown!
“(CNN)The city of Columbus, Ohio, has already vowed to bring down its statue of Christopher Columbus. But thousands are hoping to erase the city’s connection to Columbus’ legacy even further by renaming it Flavortown in honor of Columbus native Guy Fieri.”

    • Flavor said, on June 21, 2020 at 2:50 pm

    • xoot said, on June 21, 2020 at 7:50 pm

he’s crashing from the uppers. Some mild trank and a first tier sleeper may be moving in, too.
