Caddy Covid Crisis
Interesting to watch how they’re handling the Travelers Golf tourney this week in CT. Multiple caddies have tested + and some of the game’s best players decided to withdraw at the last minute. But the tournament is foraging on.
Tour golfers and their crews are pretty typically conservative assholes so I’m guessing many of them are no-mask guys. That might account for the number of positive tests. Maybe now they start taking this stuff more seriously?
I think it’s funny these guys get caddies. Seriously, who actually NEEDS a caddy?
How baseball is going to traverse through all this is a mystery to me but if it all gets shut down because of the virus I can live with that. I would not be as tolerant of the game if it got shut down over a greedy money argument.
I still can’t get over this outrageous graph. If you ever want to know the difference between northern and southern California just look at this. We have, what? 8 million people in the Bay Area? I have been saying this about Santa Clara county (where I live) for quite some time now but it is really the entire Bay Area. Why are we so able to practice social distancing guidelines and the idiots below us can’t seem to figure it out?????
on this date 11 years ago, The Dubs drafted Steph AND Michael Jackson died.
It’s well beyond a tour pro to ever not have a caddie. They will never carry their bags,a lot even have corporate sponsors plastered all over their bags that cameras can zoom in on while the caddie is holding the pro’s bag..
I will say it can’t be good for baseball if golfers and caddies are getting Coronavirus when social distancing is easily controlled in this sport.Hell how did Pro Nick Watney all of a sudden test positive after he played in his 1st rd last week? Brooks Kopecka (sp) caddie tests positive, forcing Brooks to withdraw (right thing to do)from this upcoming tournament. Yeah Baseball good chance after they start it will get shutdown again, to many scenarios of things to control…
No baseball connexion here, but I may be the Flap’s insider on jails & prisons. Yesterday evening the bro-in-law turned me on to a couple of John Oliver videocasts via You-tube. Interesting stat he brought out is that recent years have seen a 200 percent+ increase in 55 and older prisoners. He even posted the brief clip that a heroic black man from my building at Elkton shot with his “contraband” cell-phone. It went viral (Not Covid) but it was about that. His footage included that of a guy who was dying right there in his cot. Of course the screws found out his I.D.: Aaron Kemp. The “authorities” at Elkton tried to make him recant on his statements, but he refused. To this date, according to Oliver, the hero of Elkton is still being held in durance vile in the “Special Housing Unit”, likely in solitary confinement for his lack of “cooperation”. Hoping someone out there is setting up a “Go Fund Me” account for that brave inmate.
Oliver also noted that there two million, two hundred thousand Americans locked up right now. He pretty much implied that the virus has been brought in via the comings and goings of staff members–also, perhaps, carrying the “petri-dish” contamination back out with them. In some instances jails can be worse than prisons as there are something like 200,000 prisoner turnovers weekly with comings and goings, arrests and releases or sent up the ladder. He did a brief interview with a Chicago-area activist regarding the Cook County jail, which he described as “a death cruise-ship”. True dat, I’m sure. With 444,000 staff and administration, etc personnel in the country’s lockup system, that mean old virus is sure making the rounds from outside to inside and vice-versa.
As per his usual take, Oliver opined that lockups should be releasing most of their medically compromised and elderly inmates. Not happening very fast with the Fed$. He stated that less than 3% of such Federal prisoners have been released to halfway houses or home-confinement since the virus appeared. In Elkton alone there must be around 500 prisoners at age 55 and older. Add the younger medically messed-up guys and you may be reaching a figure of nearing 700 out of the 2,500 in the main section plus the camp down the hill. The British-born satirist, citing official figures, pointed out that 636 men at my “alma-mater” have developed the virus, with nine deaths reported. Apparently he was not given hospitalization figures. From a communication I received, the numbers may well be higher than the official take.
“We should be releasing prisoners as fast as we can. We shouldn’t be sentencing people to die in prisons and jails,” Oliver recommended.
From my personal perspective, someone mentioned yesterday that there are many incarcerated individuals who claim innocence, while having pleaded guilty. There’s an explanation for that–at least with the Fed$. If you admit your “guilt” in plea bargaining bribery and blackmail situations (the vast majority of felony sentences) you get official brownie points in your sentencing scheme. Thus, the bribe is “play ball with us, so it looks good on the books and you do less time. Capisce?” It’s a huge racket. A good ol boy from Flint, Michigan called the law n’order game “the biggest racket going.” Huge money to be made at the expense of the taxpayer and by friends and families of the victims of their racket.
That was me saying pleading guilty is not necessarily an admission of guilt…after I posted yday the news then reported that on tuesday the Flynn lawyers received notes taken by Strzok about the infamous Jan 5 2017 White House meeting solely focused on Flynn. It took 3 and half years for Flynn’s lawyers to receive this document and people call this justice??? Stix did the feds hide documents from you??? The Flynn lawyers were apparently told there are more documents forthcoming…this perversion of one’s civil liberties to see all evidence against you is outrageous. Too bad only a few people acknowledge this outrage. But if you are Trump supporter..fuck em.
GH: Don’t know if documents all released on ‘Discovery’ or not. However, when one is held in detention and rarely able to reach your public defender and then later to discover that she did not follow your requests to determine specifics of the case which could have made for a better possible jury trial outcome; it was quite obvious that officially, the public defender is, indeed, an officer of the court and is tacitly duty-bound to save court time and expenses and that therefore, the prosecution’s much sought-after plea-bargain deal becomes a virtually axiomatic choice.
What’s most disappointing to me about Warriors is how bad they have been at drafting and developing anyone over last few years. The guy that writes for the Chron is going over roster and last few days he’s been giving glowing reports on guys who had hot stretches or were impressive in short time span. Pure nonsense.
What matters is being able to be consistently good, over 82 game season. NBA game can be lost handily while your team scores 90 points, so someone is going to get 12-15 or more…while your team gets smoked which is mostly what happened to them all this year. Yes they will get their best players back from injury, but how good anyone behind them is, very questionable.
Dont you like Pascall pick??? I think he is a gem…
big yes there GH. Still like them to get another big, preferably Toppin or Virginia guy Diamite in case Looney’s body no longer allows him to play. Watching the retro playoff games from when they won titles, in addition to all the perimeter shooting, their bigs had depth of talent and smarts—Durant McGee D West Iguodala Bogut. All those guys are gone. Now? Green, whose skills on offense haven’t evolved at all, and not much else.
Raptors bigs hammered them year before and there are plenty of good big men in West too.
GH, I want to see your 250 yard self painted fence and the 200 yards you have left to go . . . PHOTOS!
Chron story says Giants new bullpens are ready and they are mapping out how to spread field out for workouts.
A’s mgr. Melvin says he has been talking regularly to Matt Williams, managing over in Korea.
Be interesting to see how Kapler sorts out his roster, especially for OF. I bet Hamilton and Pence both make Opening Day 30.
Yeah Kapler will definitely keep Pence a fitness guru like him.
Hamilton as well, being the Darren Ford of the basepaths Lol 😂
And of course a BF favorite with his low OBP and batting average..
Excellent. And Billy Ham on the team (should he make it) will be my new 1.0 now that The Original is gone.
I’ll never forget that series Ham had against SF after you touted him despite all the career long evidence to the contrary. No wonder you are a gambler.
Like others have said, we are surrounded by morons. Here are a few from Florida . . .
https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/06/24/mask-mandate-florida-anger-erupts-coronavirus-vpx.cnn/video/playlists/coronavirus/
Blade, I lived on the gulf Coast for 25 years. Florida is an absolutely beautify place to live (on the coasts), but boy, do they have a bunch of stooopid people there.
I have SCUBA dived there and the Bahamas, as well as attended work related conferences (Orlando . . . armpit of Florida in my opinion). I enjoyed my time there, albeit, the humidity is way too much for this kid.
Almost forgot, about 17-18 years ago, I was with my GF (at the time) on a stopover in Miami, before transferring on a flight to Cayman Islands. Anyway, I was cracking up about at least 6-12 airport staffers that were in “Riddler” outfits. They looked straight out of the Batman TV series, with question marks all over them. They were there to answer travelers questions. I thought it was hilarious, but also a good idea.
Stay safe Stan!
Willied, What do you think of Wiseman and the kid from USC Okuwong (sp) aren they top 3 players and Toppins alittle lower pick?
mm didn’t think Wiseman was good idea. He’s a HS kid, no idea what nba is all about. The USC kid I saw lot of, good looking player. Theory these days it’s better to draft younger player you can mold and develop; I tend to lean toward value of more experienced guys who have played more often vs. top comp. We’ll see.
They have already cancelled the Hall of Fame game in football. Having any real sports this year is probably a pipe dream.
Stix, being stuck in county jail is usually much worse than spending that time in the prison. Usually 23 hours in a cell per day with an hour walking around in a module, taking a shower, watching a little tv. But as far as this virus goes it’s all recycled air and it would be a miracle if one didn’t get it. i know if a flu is going around then everyone gets it, and usually turns into some form of bronchitis or walking pneumonia.
Bay Area is the most progressive area in the country. Most progressive-minded people “get it.”
Hoping baseball gets it going. And agree Flav, even if they start and have to shut-down, so be it. Agree that is better than shutting down over greed.
we’re definitely fortunate in the bay area. the CV19 success here is all the more impressive given the huge homeless populations.
as to flynn — was OJ framed? Yes. Was OJ guilty? Yes. I think the flynn imbroglio is a more complex version of similar issues. I’m not gonna condone police abuse, if that’s what happened in the flynn case, but I’m also not gonna get too excited about the Trump Lives Matter movement.
Great news! Turns out there wasn’t only one hour left. The ticking clock has been turned back to a few days!!!
“There are only a few days left to contribute to win. This may be your only chance to meet the President. Don’t miss your chance.”
Fuckin A.
i mean, when they threatened me that I was down to my final 60 minutes I started to sweat a little. I’m not gonna lie. But I stayed up all night focused, praying, and goddamn if it didn’t buy me *a few more days*. Shows the power of prayer, right?
Absolutely
The Fuck is ticking!…Tick Fuck Tick Fuck Tick Fuck
A headline this week:
“North Texas family shaken after 18 relatives test positive for COVID-19 following surprise birthday party”
I’ve been wondering what George Bush is up to . . .
watched some tennis last couple days from Charleston SC. Complete social distancing inside
mostly empty arena, protocols for how ball is handled and picked up, etc. running smoothly. Contrast that with ridiculous Djokovic led nightmare in Croatia, huge crowds, zero distancing, players congregating together on and off court, multiple positive tests. How could you do something like this?
I ‘m reposting this from last night.
This is a Drumpf cult…

I’m reposting this from last night.
How could this 18 year old never get another chance?

8 kids. Jesus. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with ONE
Of course he did this vs. the Mets, haha. Look at that Astros 2-3-4: Morgan, Wynn, Staub.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/HOU/HOU196309290.shtml
And 2X batting champ, Pete Runnels winding down in his home town…
thx Mac love these. Bateman the Houston C made his 23rd error? wow
Kranepool leading off; SP Bearnarth gets 1 of only 2 XBHs for Mets.
um I know this will take a nanosecond, but why does Tracy Stallard stick in my mind for something infamous giving up bomb? Maris?
Flav, if you contribute do you get a name tag?

Fuck You seems a little standoffish at first but once you get to know him he’s a hellavu guy
LMAO…
Might add …Can I just above the Fuck You
and see how many woman bite?
Better hope they’re toothless, Kat.
That’s the George Constanza approach…
wouldn’t it be a smart move to televise some part of the Giants’ daily practices, starting next week, at China Basin? I’d leave it on and watch occasionally. Maybe minor league announcers could provide some color and info. Pump up fan interest and probably sell ad time at a slightly higher rate than they get for monster truck races and Gaelic football matches now.
Baseball is currently on life-support and the owners care very little. It’s likely that fans like yourself, Xoot, will come up with better ideas than the too-rich owners and their lackeys.
yes. Just live stream it, it would get huge ratings
The final season of Brockmire satirically looks at the future of baseball.
Some changes are definitely coming in the future. We probably underestimate how worried the owners are about baseball’s declining place in American culture. Some of that damage was self-inflicted by MLB.
I think, for the ‘20 mini-season, MLB will reality-show it up a lot. Lots of behind-the-scenes stuff, player video journals, rotten in-game interviews, maybe more players wearing mics during the games, and who knows what else.
Maybe they’ll allow bat flips…
Hmmmmm, I’m starting to wonder if these deadlines aren’t set in stone…..
Fuck,
My father wants to meet YOU.
You’ve always been one of his most loyal supporters, so he was a little disappointed to find out you hadn’t entered yet to win this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
There’s not much time left. In fact, there are less than 100 spots left on the entry list for today. I’m holding a spot for you, Fuck, but I can only hold it until 11:59 PM TONIGHT before I’m forced to release it to the next Patriot.
These letters are sort of inspiring me to sign up with the name Fuck’n A Right but I don’t know that I can bring myself to it.
They’re taking lessons from the funding practices of “Christian” networks, which make sense because of the cult aspect. Jim and Tammy Faye Baker would be proud…
Fuck’s got as much of a chance to winning this “Once in a lifetime moment “
Then to win Publishers Clearance House Grand Prize…
bet you the next patriot in line is a guy named Eat
Name is Eat. Eat Shit. 😂
Bochy!
Yeah but did are boy Big Head Bochy hang on to the ball?
If he did Petey boy is OUT!!!
Rose layed out Fosse better at the plate in the A/S game
basically ended Fosse’s career who was never the same player..
ruined his announcing career, too — from day one. (my theory is he works for peanuts, so they keep him)
Sorry Kat, after a little digging . . .
Pete Rose #14 of the Philadelphia Phillies crashes into catcher Bruce Bochy #13 of the Houston Astros to score the winning run in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on October 11, 1980 at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas.
Good research, Mac.
That’s gotta be from the 1980 NLCS.
Snarkk, that article sounds like the Grateful Dead for interminable assholes.
It is downright scary. No more proof of the cult needed.
These followers cannot be reasoned with. They’re your crazy uncle, on steroids.
This is what happens to a country that has ignored and underfunded education for decades, among other things…
I have a friend in Florida that I talked to this morning. She is gonna vote for trump even though she knows he’s crooked as the day is long. Her reasoning is that if she votes democratic her vote would go to remove Christianity from America. i asked her why would she think that and she said because of all the Muslim senators would vote to take it away. I haven’t googled it yet but i doubt there only a couple of senators if that. i told her that would never happen. But for her to even think that the church she goes to must have put that in her mind. Fucking unbelievable.
Yup. Dumb, ignorant, and pregnant is how the Republicans like the masses.
how did he do this? Like, how is this even humanly possible?
iirc that used to be true of few other of the old yards. Some seat painted off in upper reaches where Pops had planted one back in day. Meant to say when you popped up that pic the other day I still have black 3 ring Pirate hat in closet with baseball gear.
big debate, apparently, over whether the runner-on-second-in-extras rule means that a team can pitch but still lose a perfect game
A no-hitter? Sure but a perfecto? Not sure how that happens.
typical debate topic (there are many others): runner on second steals third; batter hits a SF. No hits, no walks, no HBP, no errors. Perfect game, but game over. The purists argue, however, you can’t have a perfect game if a run scores. etc etc. Just highlights the perverse nature of the expedient, I suppose
variations I’ve seen involve balks and wild pitches. I think the bottom line is this: as soon as the runner gratuitously takes second base, the game is no longer perfect
Yep. Because it is an imperfect dipshit rule. I understand “why” they’re doing it….I just do not like it. Like the DH. I understand why people want it, but personally I hate it…
This is cool. Mom took me here about a month before it shut down for good in ’72 iirc. The roller coaster, just like the one in Santa Cruz, was long gone, but all the other stuff was there. Including that awesome indoor slide. Nice song as well!
Cool. Another Hunter/Garcia gem.
Good times.
Hey!
A few things…To allikat.. Yes you can golf after a total hip. How quickly depends on the approach used (anterior or posterior), how cautious your MD is, and which leg it is. A right handed golfer will get back a little sooner with a right hip vs left. Why? because Internal rotation of the front leg (left) happens fast during follow through. If a right hip it is external rotation of the back leg on followthrough, less stressful.
Re “The idiots in Socal”… Don’t hate, just my opinion. More democrates in bay area vs SoCal.
Republicans as a group are more often to be business owners, and or more likely to be sypathetic to those who are? See people who’s lives are being wrecked but don’t know anyone who is actually sick or actually died.
As a healthcare provider and lifelong democrate until 10 years ago or so I am not a “this is just the flu” guy at all. I’m worried, but have no answer to those who actually question how bad this is. Going on 4 months of treating patients. We are a hands on clinic so I have no ability to distance. Across our company of many hundreds of PTs PTAs,aides, front desk..thousands of patients across the enterprse. In Ca nevada, Colorado, idaho No employees sick. In my clinic one sick former patient in 4 months.
Not a scientic answer but something to ponder….
Hey Mrsprtdude,
Yes i am getting a right hip replacement. My Doctor wants to do a posterior operation back of the hip instead of front, due to my size(sort of a big guy 6,3 240) he feels it’s easier for him with a curved incision to get to the area for the titanium ball socket to fit..Says basically the operation is 1 hr to 1 1/2 and then recovery time ( maybe 3-4 hrs? and get you up and testing the hip with your walker, if all goes well including a bowel movement, you go home the same day with meds and start PT the next day at home!
And yes I believe after I ask the doc, I feel being right hip will make it easier( less torque factor over left hip& maybe same scenario with bowling?) to compete in golf in maybe 3-4 months?
I want to thank you for your input, it does help relieve some anxiety, though I’m usually chill, and rely on good physician and his staff to get thru this ok!
And final hurdle probably cleared today was I need to go get a COVID-19 test at a drive thru tent station, super easy they swab you’re tongue and both nostrils though the pipe cleaner lol gets pretty far up nostrils and gives you a quick sting feeling same with throat gag feeling it last just seconds and easy for anyone to Man Up too..
PS… Craig is that chrt saying basically all the new cases in the last 7 days are all in Socal?? I’m not a stats guy but that is hard to believe
those are the new cases not in the 6 Bay Area counties. So, socal is most of that, right? And it’s not the last 7 days, the timeline is for the last few months.
Gotta hand to the Giants they have an obsession of signing Catchers..
The newest Giant signed is Robert Emery USF Don. Local kid born and raised in SF!
Was a candidate for the Buster Posey award as collegiate best catcher, which was won
by are own top pick Bailey..
Posey,Bart,Bailey&Emery I would say they’re lock in at that position for years, until they draft another one next year ⚾️🤔
Always trade bate. Good catchers are a desired commodity. Especially like Bailey who also switch-hits…
Wouldja believe it?? New iMac all hooked up, but can’t get around wordpress connexion so as to get on the site with it. This is happening on the old Acer. Will see when nephew can get me re-oriented. Thanks to all the flappers who contributed. particularly ChiPower who was the prime inspiration and arranger.
Cool! Glad you have your machine. Just a glitch to work-out with WordPress. I am using my iPad now, but also use my MacBook Pro regularly when home.
Hey Guys!!! It’s ON. New iMac. Delivered today and nephew set it up for me. 21″ screen w. wireless mouse and bi-functional keyboard. Gonna locate favorites after typing this and get the flap lodged in first place. Hope that has a positive effect on Giants season. Not highly probable as all the poobahs rate em right at the bottom of the NL. Bright, light screen and some familiar icons from two previous Mac/Apple systems, a ca. ’98 iMac and a powerbook4 laptop.Shouldn’t take too long getting used to this keyboard. For all the rest of the navigation points I’ll need to summon up the mojo of my Viking ancestors.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the “Go Fund Me” account which enabled me to land my very first brand new puter. Special thanks to ChiPower who came up with the idea and saw it through to this fascinating machine.
Thanks to 26 y.o. nephew, he went through several permutations and straightened out the spangle I had made trying to navigate the new machine. Pulled out a hangnail this afternoon digging by the storm-drain and such. So that left F-finger’s a bit sensitive right now, additional to getting used to a 4×10 keyboard. Oops, whole nail not pulled out, just one of those little hangers-on which stick out a bit,. Lucky for me, that finger is not due for any kinda pleasurable workout this evening. Feeling of the keyboard is very smooth, so its mostly a matter of acclimatization. Speed uptick in technology is a bit much for codgers. Kids seem to be on top of it tout de suite.
Is it “goddammit” season there, Stix?
What the hell is a goddammit season, Loo? That’s a new one on me. But then I was raised in Oklahoma.
I think it was the nickname of some kind of insect or mosquito that Stix talked about years ago.
I could be wrong…
with a machine like that you can do 20 things at once. sounds good.
I am grateful to all who contributed and made it a reality, Stix.
So the main takeaway here is that Stix’ nephew is ten times the IT man that Twinfan was…..
Yeah, IT was not Twin’s bag. But I would have loved to sit down to one of that dunderhead’s multi-course meals…
Great, I can be there for a cardboard Flapalooza….
Gold!!
I’m in. But only if it is at least 4-ply cardboard, in color.
At Dodger Stadium, they won’t put in the cardboard fans until the 4th inning.
Good one Mac. AND they’ll begin removing them in the 7th inning.
that’s pretty funny. bunch of blog posts on MLBTR about how Rays Marlins fans have been social distancing for years now. Does seem odd teams like Cubs RedSox and others do want some semblance of home crowd if allowed later.
Seriously 😒?? Sounds weak to me..
Hey Loo, Do you remember that other Paciorek dude Tom Paciorek?
He carved out a pretty long 17 year career with several teams.Hit .282 for career that will keep u playing on a lot of stops..
Yeah. He was just one of those guys that blended in to me.
Probably beat up on the Giants…
I am really starting to like Zaidi. There is a great article about him in the Athletic. This is just an excerpt about some of his plans.
Zaidi confirmed an NBC Sports Bay Area report that top prospects Marco Luciano, Hunter Bishop and Heliot Ramos would join catcher Joey Bart in the 60-player pool that the Giants plan to submit to MLB. Zaidi expects that the Giants won’t be the only team that will fill the back end of its pool with important players who otherwise would have no chance at getting meaningful development time this summer. Although there is a chance that Bart could make his major-league debut at some point this season, none of the four players will be candidates for the Opening Day roster. And it’s highly unlikely that youngsters like Luciano and Bishop, who haven’t played for a full-season affiliate yet, will do anything more than scrimmage with more advanced players.
