A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Watched Bart rake a double yesterday and then throw out a guy stealing. One thing about these practice games: everyone seems to be going half speed. I wonder how much that will bleed into regular games without fans.

They are playing the A’s twice next week. First one is Monday there, next one Tuesday at the O.
A’s will have Sean Manaea and Fiers as starters; these should get everyone more fired up. A’s and SF will play during season and A’s are gonna need every W they can to avoid WC that has doomed them to one and done status despite great regular seasons.

Six more days of CV-blaah and then it’s “Play Ball!”

    • chipower9 said, on July 16, 2020 at 11:20 am

And only four days until they T it up against the A’s in two preseason games (as mentioned above by WilleDav). Both are supposed to be televised on NBCS BA, and on KNBR, too. Monday’s game has a 6:40 start. Tuesday’s start is 6:45. PLAY BALL!

Weird feeling with no Dick Dick Dick chant!
That’s the new baseball with Cyrus the Virus taking over unfortunately..

Caught a news story on radio about MN cops using a drone to fly over and bust nude sunbathers on a secluded lake beach…made me think of our Stix!!! Does he know where this beach is???

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 16, 2020 at 1:40 pm

GH: Off the top, I don’t know, what with over 15,000 lakes in Minn, not counting the BIG one fronting the Arrowhead country. One quick take is that we have definitely entered the world of George Orwell’s 1984 with police choppers (imagine–he wrote that in 1948 when helos were still in their infancy) swooping in on people’s homes to make sure they were tuned in faithfully to their boobtoobs to get their daily regimen of Big Brother (& the holding company) coming atcha with their regular dosage.

Fuck the silly business of de-funding the police. What is needed is to crack down on Warrior-cops as trained by I$raeli anti-Palestinian chokehold tactics .Also all this crap disgorged from military “surplus” does not belong in what still faces as a free country. Militarization of the police is utterly unAmerican. Robotization of ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIE$ not only dehumanizes them; it also dehumanizes WE THE PEOPLE, who by constitutional law are supposed to be sovereign in this ruptured republic.

Every team is saying the same thing- short season?-hey get off to a fast start, youneverknow. Kapler I would bet is no different, so next few days and games vs. A’s should ramp up intensity.
also rosters are gonna have to be set for first 30 in SF/rest in Sac.
any update on BHam? I had thought he had good chance to make that first group as extra baserunner defensive replacement for OF. Shea said this morning in Chron still on injured list.

    • Flavor said, on July 16, 2020 at 10:50 am

all I know is that everyone is raving about Bart. If Kap wants to put his best team out there Bart should be part of it.

      • willedav said, on July 16, 2020 at 12:52 pm

did you see story from Pavs on nbc giants site? Kap still talking about “development” of Bart. Maybe he is just echoing company line from above, idk. Remember Romo when asked about closing? He said, “I just work here.”

      • Bozo said, on July 16, 2020 at 1:59 pm

Bart is a stud and will be a major player at some point soon (I hope he keeps 77 as his number). I think SF management want him to learn another position first. Hello, JT Snow, the Giants are on line 1. Who knows, the plan might even be to make catching his secondary position, which I think would be a wise move if that is the plan.

      • willedav said, on July 16, 2020 at 2:47 pm

bozo that’s good take I’d read that somewhere too about SF having him learn 1b.
at least no one can accuse Zaidi of pandering to f/b babes on leaving Bart off top 30 for now.

  7. xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 3:52 pm

Looks like the Giants are going to sponsor some sort of SF-logo face-mask giveaways. Bobbleheads, indeed. I hope the things are built better than some of the fucking hats they’ve given me over the years.

  8. Flavor said, on July 16, 2020 at 4:00 pm

    Longo and Flores:
Two days after Evan Longoria praised Bart, Wilmer Flores said this when asked which young Giants has impressed him: “I really like Joey Bart’s approach. He can hit the ball hard. He has really impressed me. I didn’t get to see him in spring training but I’m getting to see him now. He’s really got some pop.”

    • xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 4:08 pm

Bart will start at least one of the two games v. the a’s next week. I’m confident.

    • xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:11 pm

he doesn’t look like a 1B to me. This is 2010 all over again, but without Benji (or, this time, Buster) blocking the way.

      • chipower9 said, on July 16, 2020 at 9:46 pm

Great analogy. Agree….Bart looks like a catcher.

  14. unca_chuck said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:40 pm

If they’d just go ahead and trade Belt for a rosin bag and a fungo bat, we could just put Posey at 1st and be done with it. I don’t really WANT Posey at 1st, but I’d rather have bart up and playing rather than Belt at 1st cuz Posey isn’t going anywhere.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:43 pm

I guess this applies to next year. I forgot that this season won’t happen anyway.

  15. xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:54 pm

In a piece he posted on The Athletic half an hour ago, Baggarly explains that the March agreement creates an incentive not to bring up prospects like Bart this “year.” If the season gets shut down early, any kid who plays three games gets an entire year of service, apparently. Three games — one full year off the arb clock. I think that’s what Baggs is saying (although he’s vaguer than usual). Also, Baggs points out that Zaidi (et al), who took over in Nov. 2018, did not draft Bart in the summer of 2018.

    • chipower9 said, on July 16, 2020 at 9:50 pm

I have read that in a couple of articles. When you think about it, it is entirely plausible (season could shut down early). So, putting myself in Zaidi’s shoes, I can see the logic in “playing it slow.”

  16. alleykat69 said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:54 pm

They’re going to do to Bart what they did to Posey his 1st time callup, and that’s not to play him.Giants orq continues to live in the stone ages compared to many other teams in playing prospects. They coddle their players way to much instead of letting them get they’re feet wet,and especially with Bart who is the best catcher by far in camp right now..

    • chipower9 said, on July 16, 2020 at 9:52 pm

Yeah, I think this year, given this weird-ass situation, the reason to not bring-up Bart is more in line with Xoot’s comment, above.

  17. snarkk said, on July 16, 2020 at 5:57 pm

If they don’t play Bart to start out, but then play him after 30 games in, I would consider that nonsense. He wouldn’t be 30 games more experienced at the AA or AAA level. He’d have 5 weeks or so of catching instruction and simulated games and BP at Raley Field. If they don’t play him at all this “season”, then it’s clearly the FA clock thing that’s driving this…

    • xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 6:04 pm

and the FA clock relates to his trade value. That’s what Baggs gets at as he discusses Bart’s value, as an *inherited asset*, in Zaidi’s scheme. Interesting take.

  18. snarkk said, on July 16, 2020 at 6:11 pm

I wondered what the trigger was for # of games played to get service time. It makes sense for them to get the lay of the land on how this “season” will go in terms of cancellation prospects before they commit Bart to play. After a half dozen games, they should understand the lay of the land. For the FA clock, I say F it. Play the kid. He’s not 19. He’s friggin’ 23 or something. Time’s a wastin’…

  19. alleykat69 said, on July 16, 2020 at 6:22 pm

Flavors boy Billy Hamilton back in camp after a 13 day undisclosed hiatus.Must be nice to know your only really needed till the season is about to start so you can rest your only true weapons your legs till then .
Next steal for Hambone will be number 300 in his career. He also has a 85% success rate of stealing 3rd base..
Hmm extra innings steals 3 rd with no outs under the new rule is a nice advantage to have though..

    • xoot said, on July 16, 2020 at 6:32 pm

yep. 10th inning in a 0-0 game, perfect for one of the pitchers. Suddenly, Hamilton’s on second against the would-be perfecto. Ham steals third. The pitcher, after all those innings in the windup, has trouble with his stretch and balks. Perfect game still, technically, but he (and his team) loses. Hamilton gets a walkoff celebration at home plate.

What bullshit. Theoretically. (And Hamilton will be fun to see.)

  20. Flavor said, on July 16, 2020 at 6:43 pm

I said last year that Pillar would be our most exciting player and it’s hard to argue against that. Maybe you go with the Dick when he was healthy. Either way, B-Hammy gonna do some exciting things I bet. He’s got obvious holes in his game but he flies around out there like lightening.

game 5 v Cinn in 2012 on the Giants cable station now. I had to follow that game on the computer feed while working in my office. When Buster hit the grand slam, I roared and so did the lawyer in the office next to me, and so did a bunch of secretaries and paralegals on down the line. We all celebrated in the hallway. Game five wasn’t even over yet, but we knew we were going to win it all now. Just one of those communal moments you never forget.

looks like Trump has had it with this nightly bullshit in Portland. Still, this is not the way to handle it. This is like Nazi Germany shit…

  31. Flavor said, on July 16, 2020 at 8:59 pm

now, I have ZERO sympathy for these fucks that have been destroying my former city EVERY NIGHT since the Floyd protests went down. And don’t give me any bullshit that it isn’t happening, I have many friends in Portland who confirm they are destroying the city nightly.
So, no sympathy and they should have shut the fuck up and stopped weeks ago, but I don’t support how this is going down. Not cool.

Pretty please stop destroying things.” Arrest those fucking criminals and then it wouldn’t have gotten to this Gestapo stuff.
Did you see that pussy they arrested? He was like, *uh oh wish I’d stayed in mommy’s basement tonight.*. That fuck is a great example of the bullshit that has taken over the night time in Portland over the last 6 weeks……

Saw some of the Reds game Xoot mentioned as I’d never seen that one. they also had Braves playoffs from 2010 where Cody Ross was hero in Game 4 Casilla Lopez Wilson closed them out after Bum went solid 6.
