A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And….Scene!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 20, 2020

Ok, I think last night was my Domingo German moment.

Sorry.

WordPress still hasn’t gotten back to me about how to save the blog in some type of Smithsonian archive which is where it belongs when I finally decide it’s time to shut her down.

I spent the morning tweeting angry shit at the Portland PD.

I’m leaving for vacation soon and I think everyone would agree I need one badly.

PIA with a pretty hot Asian student. 7/10. Sorry Room Rater can’t have me look at anything any other way.

2 more nice plays from Brooks Flores. with Belt over there at 1b those high throws wouldn’t be a problem.

The fog’s blowing in across the bay. If one of the Giants hitters can get one up into that wind he’ll have a HR too. If.

You guys see the lone Giants fan behind homeplate among the cardboard cutouts with his mask on?

Taking Karen-ing to a new level.

    Wilmer’s walk-up song…

    • alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:40 pm

I would of preferred Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
Tears 😭 of a Clown 🤡 for Wilmer..

      • djloo27 said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:48 pm

        He’s got many choices, Kat.
Maybe he’ll switch off – see what’s working for him…

A few Giants fans will freak out over some of the Giants kneeling during the Anthem. I don’t expect it to be all that many fans freaking out.

    • Flavor said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:39 pm

it’s going to be a non issue here. And playing that song before sporting events is dumb anyway. What’s the point?

      • xoot said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:43 pm

maybe it’s mlb’s expression of gratitude for an antitrust exemption that almost equals the one granted to the hallowed insurance industry

    • djloo27 said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:39 pm

      What’s the big deal?
Mays was doing it 60 years ago.
      Nobody said a word…

Flav, curious–what impresses you about Kapler?

Just listen to him. He’s smart. Smart goes a long way with me. And I love the kneeling right out the gate. Dude stands for something. I like that.

    • zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:50 pm

He has a photo of MLK giving his “I have a dream speech” in his office at the ballpark. (I think that was at the ballpark. It may have been in his home.)

      • zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:50 pm

        “I have a dream” speech, I meant.

    • willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:58 pm

I hear you he talks a good game.

  8. djloo27 said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:50 pm

Not for nuthin, but Bull Durham completely sucks and aside from “Dad, wanna have a catch,” Field Of Dreams blows too…

    • zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:52 pm

They never did anything for me.
Very few good baseball movies, in my opinion.

      • zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:53 pm

“8 Men Out” is a good one.

    • xoot said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:56 pm

BD has a good soundtrack — The Blasters, Los Lobos, et al. FoD? I saw it in a theater with two women who know nothing about baseball and they were both laughing like hell by the end. I pretended that I didn’t completely agree.

    • Macdog said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:23 pm

I like Bull Durham, not big on Field of Dreams.

      • sandog said, on July 21, 2020 at 12:04 am

I’m with you on both. Not a big fan of The Natural either. Honestly I don’t think I have completely watched The Natural or Field of Dreams.

    • chipower9 said, on July 20, 2020 at 10:14 pm

I liked Bull Durham. Classic in my book.

  9. alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 7:50 pm

So I saw Matt Chapman spit twice in the dugout when the camera panned in on him.
That spit rule will be a joke all year..

  10. willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:00 pm

flores made another nice stop diving to his left and saved a run; guy is a revelation at 3b. to his credit Sando had good scoop too.

  11. zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:01 pm

    Karens gotta Karen.

Jon Miller on the radio: “We don’t know what kind of gun they have going over there in Oakland, but Watson’s clocking in at 86 87 and his fastball’s usually 93 94.”

    • willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:30 pm

Manaea was at 88 89 and he’s more like mid 90s.

      • xoot said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:36 pm

fg has Manaea at 90 even for last year, avg I guess

    • xoot said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:32 pm

and the radio feed doesn’t break to commercial much. Miller and Flemming keep on talking between innings. Miller’s commentary on Slater just now was good.

  13. willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:28 pm

Diekman blew Dubon away with hard stuff. Flaco (skinny one) looked overmatched.
then Tromp pulls one right down line for a 2b.

  14. alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:29 pm

Tromp showing good bat speed. He hits the ball hard..

  15. chipower9 said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:30 pm

    Slater tearing it up…. 😂

  16. alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:31 pm

    Have a night Slater! 5RBI’s

  17. zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:31 pm

    Slater with 5 Ribbies.

  18. willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:56 pm

yeah Slater looked good in LF too. so if he is “in”, who is out, at least vs. LHP?

    • alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:05 pm

      Dickerson?

    • willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:23 pm

mm maybe those 2 split LF, Yaz Davis Dubon get rest of OF.
Ruf and Sando at 1b Flores at 3b. Dubon at 2b vs. RHP.

  19. zumiee said, on July 20, 2020 at 8:57 pm

Bart catches with one knee down. That’s…..something.

    • xoot said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:34 pm

Only on some pitches, and Tromp did that, too. Something to watch, I guess. I can tell you one definite thing about Bart though: he needs to learn how to turn profile and walk off dramatically when his pitcher throws strike three out three. He looked lost back there with the prize in his mitt. Maybe he can study video of Buster.

  20. alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:08 pm

Man Bart is the prototype of a big league catcher. He’s got size and height of any other catcher in baseball bar none

  21. willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:19 pm

this guy Navas must have studied at the Cory Gearrin school of how much time can I take before I actually throw the baseball.

  22. alleykat69 said, on July 20, 2020 at 9:25 pm

Agree even the cardboard cutouts are pissed how long he takes!

  23. djloo27 said, on July 20, 2020 at 10:06 pm

I think people may be underestimating the effect an empty stadium could have on some players.
Maybe a guy like Slater will really benefit.
    Others might suffer…

    • Macdog said, on July 20, 2020 at 10:21 pm

I’ve been wondering if some players, though they’d never admit it, prefer playing with no fans. I think eventually they’ll get used to it. For the U.S. players anyway, this is no different than their days playing travel ball in front of a family and friends crowd.

  24. willedav said, on July 20, 2020 at 10:08 pm

Apparently neither Belt nor Longo are going on the IL though. Kapler does not rule out one of them playing vs. Dodgers, more than likely Belt.

  25. willedav said, on July 21, 2020 at 7:36 am

just an fwiw, I read the Chron story online about Kapler and others taking knee during anthem. 3 comments on the story, none of whom approved. “Hope media doesn’t focus on this all season” yada yada
Craw said he talked about it with the wife who was in military and he felt he should support the 2 he put his hands on. Also apparently J Davis had written about stuff that had happened to him earlier…have to try and find that.
