A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

5 Games In…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 29, 2020

I was driving all day and missed the game last night. To be honest I’ve missed almost all of the games being on vacation. Perusing the stats I see we have a grand total of 2 home runs through 5 games. That’s not going to get er done.

Pence and Crawford, um, wow.

Shout out to Ervin who Pa Salon assures me is in the Lurker HOF at the Flap….

Another day. Another game. Another Giant Shit Show. 🙄

  2. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:13 pm

The good news is there really is a lot of talent in the future with this team.
The Bad news how many Flappers will still be alive to see them??

  3. Macdog said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:14 pm

    Shaun of the dead arm.

  4. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:16 pm

For years now, the Dagos have been the Giants bane, while the LaBumbos eat the Pads for breakfast. Way things are going SF will be lucky to go 3-7 vs SD. Can anybody figure out the hoodoo –that is, besides Myers.

  5. zumiee said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:19 pm

The Padres are a couple of years ahead of the Giants on the rebuild.

    • Bozo said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:27 pm

Yeah, the Padres had a head start in the rebuild process going back to 2011, or was it 2007?

  6. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:25 pm

    Will Fucking Meyers.

  7. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:30 pm

All I got to go by here is gamely–no video. What was with Cueto tonight? Was it mostly a matter of command. That, and this sure wasn’t the Shaun Anderson we saw vs the LaBumbos.

    • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:38 pm

      I think he missed Buster…

    • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:45 pm

Stix for Cueto tonight it was his control, 3 walks and his pitch count especially the 3rd inning when he labored with 30 pitches 87 for the night in 4 2/3 innings. And the frustration of the HR ball after a walk killed him..

  8. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:32 pm

    Yaz hitting .400

  9. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:46 pm

    Swinging Dick!

  11. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:47 pm

Dick Dick Dickerson with his 1st Bomb!!

  12. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:52 pm

Hunter Pence batting average .000 OBP .059
Only time I believe on base was when he got hit on his hand!

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:00 pm

Had he been hit on the head instead of hand it might have cleared his mind enough to make him think he was back in Texas.

  13. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:55 pm

As usual looking for the positives. Dickerson’s dinger gets him off the schizoid in game six means the possibility of solid production so long as he remains healthy. So its a pair of solid outfielders, Flores as a decent DH prospect, Dubon showing up here and there and Solano as a solid hitter. That leaves 3 or 4 position players as question marks. As for the pitching…rotation looks to be a mudslide and if he can mix and match correctly, Kapler should be able to sport a passable bunch of bullies.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:59 pm

Damn that auto-correct. Gotta watch it like a red-tailed hawk. “Schizoid” indeed. I meant “schnoid”. Stoopid AI ain’t fit for professional writers who like wordplay. Hey, if you’re not getting regular foreplay, might as well make do.

  14. zumiee said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:56 pm

In 4 extra innings, the Astros could only score the runner on second base once. Pathetic. Didn’t bunt a single time.

    • zumiee said, on July 29, 2020 at 8:59 pm

The Dodgers didn’t handle it much better, but they got an HR in the 13th.

  15. zumiee said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:14 pm

Time for some late inning heroics.

    • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:39 pm

      Could he be more surprised?

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:57 pm

Zooms: You got esp, or what? Do it again sometime soon, please.

  16. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:14 pm

I can see a lot of road teams walking the 1st batter in extra innings if they score in the top of an inning, to setup a double play easier since the back runner doesn’t mean jack in extra innings..

  17. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:15 pm

    Don’t score^^

  18. zumiee said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:26 pm

    Pence doesn’t barrel anything.

  19. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:26 pm

Pence is so friggin’ easy to pitch to…

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:27 pm

Pence took a called strike one every AB today,

  20. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:27 pm

    Aaaaaaaaand Crawfish and goodnight.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:28 pm

Hmmmmm. Crawfish is getting some wood on the ball.

  21. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:28 pm

    Another useless Pence AB!!
Pathetic swing! Wish the gal coach Allysa Nakken could hit for him!!

    we have a hitter

    • xoot said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:31 pm

(meanwhile, pence is 0-17 to start the season)

      • willedav said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:34 pm

any LU he is in beside the alternate site is a mistake.

      • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:35 pm

10 for 23 would get him to .250

      • xoot said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:43 pm

if Pence can pull that off, he deserves a slot in the LU. But only then.

      • xoot said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:48 pm

but wait. That means he’ll have to play another 6 games or more just to try . . . .

  26. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:31 pm

    Solano is the Man!!!
Fuck yeah 3 run blast off!!

    Yaz!

  38. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:49 pm

Oh we of little faith. Stammen. Veteran pitcher. Go to guy. Setup man for years. Kazza, kazza, Boombah. Great thing about baseball. You just never know. Yazzman, Solanoid and Dickemup. We may have found our core…and with Crawdaddy giving upon on the crawfish role, showing signs of life…maybe there is a bit of veteran pride.

Longo and Belt due back tomorrow. If Pence doesn’t make way for at least one of two preferable vets, then it means the ownership circle is miserly, stingy and too tight for words. Longo for six or seven innings at third. Flores as DH and with Pablo, backup. 3rd sacker. In fact they can split roles here and there. Dubon wins a spot on the team. Belt could play first STRICTLY vs. RHP’s.

    • chipower9 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:20 pm

Pence MIST GO. If not it shows that Charles Johnson’s son is a stingier fuck than his old man.

  43. mrsprtdude said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:55 pm

Why don’t we go get Mike Foltynewicz? 1 bad start?

    he is 29 years old. last 2 years 21-16 1.1 whip K/9 8.1

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:26 pm

Depends on scouting reports. He certainly was quality recently. Is there an injury problem? Somebody would know. If it looks positive, Z. should pounce.

  44. mrsprtdude said, on July 29, 2020 at 9:56 pm

    Good to see ya Clint!!!

  45. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:00 pm

No second year slump for Yaz that’s for sure!
Just love his approach at the plate and using all fields. But he pulled those 2 missiles which was exciting as well🚀🚀

  46. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:04 pm

Go figure baseball, this team had 2HR’s for the season in 5 games, tonight they hit 4 in one game!

  47. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:09 pm

So, Belt’s in for Pablo tomorrow. No big whoop as Pablo is 2-11. Do they fuckiung pull Solano For Longo?

    • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:28 pm

Solano can play 2B. He also could DH. One way or another Kapler is likely to be starting him somewhere.

  48. xoot said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:15 pm

Solano’s playing really good baseball so far this “season.” He has to play now, but probably at the expense of Dubon. I’d rather have Pablo at DH than Pence. But maybe we’ll see Wilmer there.

  49. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:23 pm

There’s gotta be one awful proud grandpa tonight…name of Carl. Watched the ol’ boy in an exhibition game at the old Met stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota in 1960. I was 15 at the time. Beautiful summer evening and dad, kid brother and I were there to see the Giants former farm-team, the Minneapolis Millers, host #24, a legend among Millers fans in ’51 as he was hitting well over .400 when he got the call to New York. It was two greats for the price of one…Willie and Yaz. Time works in strange cycles. With that walk-off Yazzman made himself the Giants current reigning #1 hero.

In baseball, nobody does it alone. Also hitting .400 at this early stage of the season for SF are Donovan Solano with an even .400 and a 1.067 OPS and with the identical BA, surprise, surprise BA, playing right field for los Gigantes, Slater, sporting a 1.025 OPS. Yazzman tops the trio, though, at a nifty .409 and a hefty 1.067 OPS. Rounding out the surprisingly effective outfield is Dickemup batting at a 3.08 BA, paired with a 1.049 OPS. Those four are looking to become fixtures.

Though he suffered a case of the yips facing the LaBumbos over the weekend,Tyler Rogers earned the (W) with a solid top of the 9th. He’s no flash in the pan. Tyler Anderson looking good over three tonight.

So the Giants can do long ball. Love it. The team’s cohesion and prideometer will skyrocket after this walk-off victory against a team which has pestered, plagued and haunted SF for years. Giants going Mano a Mano against the two toughest teams in the division is a harbinger. Maybe they can maintain their .500 record through the next 54 games. As a squad comprised of cast-offs, kids and scrubbinis, emerging from the depths into elementary respectability could be a great launching-pad for ’21 and especially ’22 when jolts of fresh faces with considerable talent might just crescendo in yet another even year.

      Great post, Stix.

      • Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:30 pm

Thanks, Chi. Hope it helped me earn this wonderful iMac, so thanks for that again as well. All it takes for me to tell a decent tale is a bit of inspiration from the Giants. Tonight it was a Royal Flush in spades.

      • chipower9 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:33 pm

My pleasure, friend. I know I speak for all who contributed that we were glad to help.

  50. chipower9 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:24 pm

Ya gotta find a spot for Solano where he plays regularly. Dude is on fire right now (well, at least for this team).

  51. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:38 pm

I just hope they don’t bury my boy Jaylin on the bench!
Hell he could DH as well instead of wasting feeble AB’s from Pence every night!

  52. Carstie Clausen said, on July 29, 2020 at 10:42 pm

Just now watched the video coverage on MLB…The Yazman splasherini made for a kayak race and the guy in the lead reached down to grab the ball, tipped his boat, hit the drink and emerged holding the Yazblast in one hand and smiling from here to Hong Kong. A team autographed ball might persuade the dude to donate the treasure to the Yazstremski family museum.

  53. willedav said, on July 30, 2020 at 6:51 am

Tremendous W. I’d just shut off laptop and there goes Kuiper yelling “High Drive”! Feast or famine for hitters last night. Yaz Dick Solano Crawford all raking, Sandoval Flores Pence Tromp with 0-4s. Tyler Anderson and his one bad start I think has to stay as one of the bridge type guys–big help to comeback W last night.

Watched some of Dogs game vs. Stros and wanted to see how extra inning stuff went. There was some strategizing as Dogs did walk some hitters to set up DP, and it worked as Brantley had a GIDP to end rally.
    ESPN did post numbers though–
0 outs runner on 2b you score 50% of time
1 out runner on 3b (after bunt) you score 45% of time.
so odds go down not up. Visiting team playing for 1 run, not a good idea. Sutcliffe said he talked to Bochy about how to play it, Boch said it depended greatly where you were in the LU

  54. willedav said, on July 30, 2020 at 6:53 am

Sandoval is at .133, 2-15 and not showing much pop in the bat. Btw Belt and Longo his days could be numbered except for pinch hitting. Ruf Solano Flores all superior RH at this point.

  55. willedav said, on July 30, 2020 at 7:17 am

on the mlb.com site is long story on game and Yaz and Solano bombs by Maria guardado. they have both calls, Kuiper and Miller, great stuff. The first one on game winner features lead in Toomgis commercial too.

  56. alleykat69 said, on July 30, 2020 at 9:08 pm

Game ball Trent Grisham, the guy has done it all tonight!
