From his MiL stats it seems amazing that the Mets traded Humphries. As almost entirely a starter, the 24 YO amassed these totals between a brief rookie stint in ’15 and last season: Composite ERA 2.16, WHIP 1.026 and a 30-177 bases on balls to strikeouts ratio. What’s not to like?
Perhaps NY was overstocked on starters and needed an ignition system and SB threat,, so they pulled the trigger with Humphries for Hamilton…Of course there lingers the possibility that there may be occulted medical issues of which the Giants were not aware. But what’s to lose? While Hamilton may become useful for the Mets, Humphries could end up useful for SF even this season if the current starters do not start going longer with quality starts.
Potentially a good acquisition. Possibly an excellent one.

22 YO Kolby Allard gets the start for the Rangers. Smardj may not be facing the powerball intensity that took him to the cleaners vs the Friar Tuckers. But the wind is blowing out at 9 mph at Oracle’s Willie Mays Field, so there may be an afternoon fireworks display as Allard’s stats (he’s replacing Corry Kluber who’s out for a while) are not all that spectacular.
If there’s one on in the bottom of the first–or even bases empty, we might anticipate Allard walking our #3 in order to fatten up on that .000 BA in the cleanup position. Though we all may be wishing our onetime slugger and chief cheerleader well in his struggling efforts, my suspicion is that very few of us are holding our breaths.
I will always wish Pence well but this is still a business and he is failing miserably. i guess Kap has a lot of rope.

I see you’re paying close attention to the OPS split since Keith laid down the Law.
on that Law, I think he made a good point, but fact is very few good players have .300 OB and .500 Slugging. I think Wilmet Flores is about there right now, and look at how inconsistent he’s been to hit that so early. Any player who gets to .400 OB is good. Buster did it twice, 2012 and 2017. No one else on the Giants did, in those years. Of course, his 2012 Slug was well over .500 (ergo, MVP). 2017, no. He needed sluggers around him (and didn’t have them). 350/500 is more common than 300/500, I think. Jeff Kent was 356/500 for his career. Who’d you rather have on your team, 2017 Buster or average Kent? Obviously, the answer is: both.
(There’s a webpage devoted to career .400 OB players. Apparently, for all of mlb history only 43 who were “HOF eligible” made that mark for their careers and 27 of them are in the hall. .400 OB is good. Obviously.)

why did Kap go to Triggs in the first place? I didn’t see any of the game before the comeback in the 6th. Had he burned through all his pitchers by then? Seems stupid to put a guy who just got called up into that spot. And all he’d been doing is pitching in that stupid taxi cab practice league thing where the players get no competition or development.

Xoot, Law’s take was hardest thing to do as a hitter was to avoid making an out. So he placed more value on hitters with high OB than slugging. He compares some hitters throughout the book, and one example was difference btw Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel, who made lot more outs over his career and to Law is nowhere near HOF worthy.
He has new book out which I have on hold when it is available at local library so I’m interested to see if he has changed his perspective since 2016-1017.

Tromp hit first bomb by a C today. I felt even with Bart Giants Cs weren’t hitting more than 5-6 which is what they are on pace for. Heineman does not seem like power hitter.
so far power is encouraging, but pitchers continue to give up more of them and it’s cost them some games.
so let’s see what happens on road. Last year SF did well on road and hit for more power/scored more runs.
In a normal season, Buster probably wouldn’t have hit his first HR until early August.

Heineken calls a good game has a solid big league catching form( quiet not sitting on a leg like that Texas catcher who looks terrible) and though not the power that Tromp shows is still hitting the ball fine for average.
Don’t know what his averages are from both sides of the plate? I assume he’s a better hitter left handed?
