Tough To Overcome Bad Pitching
Look the Dodgers just have much better players than we do. There’s no shame in admitting that, they have better players than most teams. While I think our hitting has improved some it is going to have a hard time making up for the pitching which is not good. I’m hoping Z and Kap understand you can’t piggy back and patch work your way through a game. At least you can’t do that over time, with average pitchers. If we had better hitters we would be more competitive in games like last night but you know what? We do have better hitters than we did a couple of years ago so I’ll take what we have and like it.
Hope you all watch The Travers today! The Flap’s OFFICIAL horse mascot this year, Uncle Chuck, is running and trying to defeat the great Tiz the Law. Let’s hope he gets it done and brings home a much anticipated and richly deserved horse racing crown to the Flap.
3:15 PST. TV: Fox (sorry about that)
Yeah we all know the Dodgers have better hitters, but there not showing it right now.The Giants are 4th in all of baseball hitting .252, the Dodgers 8th at .242 .The huge difference is both the pitching and a Dodger team that always stunk on defense , now all of a sudden there the best in baseball with only 2 errors on the season ( unbelievable to me) while the Giants are the WORSE team on Defense with 18 errors now and the pitching is a mess with Kapler clueless in getting them in any set roles…
could care less about what team stats say this early in a season. They have better hitters, period. And our pitching is terrible. Cueto is our only chance on any given start and who among us feels confident about him going tonight?
Cueto has done well in LA. At some point if he looks decent enough over next 2-3 starts teams are going to come calling, same for Gausman who wasn’t that bad last time out.
so then what do Giants do? Take the prospects and save money vs. who takes their place in rotation, this year and next?
In this sense Giants stats don’t lie: 5th for runs scored in NL 7th in HRs mostly in middle of pack for other stats.
Pitching they are 12th ERA dead last in run hits given up, near last in bombs and walks given up.
Until they fix that they aren’t better than 24-25 W team and how many bombs they hit will be mostly irrelevant.
Senor Shimmy’s still got $26 million guaranteed after this toy season.
Same old story.
Who’s gonna take it and how much would Giants eat?
His contract does not have any no trade clause…
I am totally into that horse race. Been awhile.
Maybe our Mental Skills Coach, Francisco Rodriguez, needs to up his game with our 3 pitching coaches?
Between our pitching and our defense we have pretty much sucked. The bright side is that it looks like we have some hitters.
Exceptional points from beginning to end
Conner Menez looks like an Amsterdam brewmaster…
Mr. Amstel Light?…
Awesome nickname!
You know I love nicknames.
Still laughing over your pizza 🍕🍕🍕remark…
Giants have potential to have decent OF and C going forward. IF is going to be major issue for Z/H to fix. You can’t trade Wilmet who could be fixture there for few years.
Relief is just a few weeks away. Reyes Moronta, remember him? Back on the 60 man after his right shoulder surgery, the 27 Y.O. Dominican RHP/RP has been a bullpen stalwart for the Giants since his 2017 debut. With a composite 2.66 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, hits per nine innings at 4.47, HR/9 at 0.6, K/9 ll.22,, BB/9 5.12; the only thing not to like is the bases on balls stat over the 128/1/3 innings he was worn the black and gold. If his surgery was a full success and he gets back into the groove in Sactown,he should stabilize the bullpen somewhat upon his return…Very good news after rather consistent fiascos on the part of a couple of our newer relievers.
Also noted on MLBTR’s was the addition of left-handed centerfield prospect Hunter Bishop, who also makes the 60-man. Probably two years away, the 2019 draftee is not highly likely to make the 28-man this season.
Horace Clarke passed away the other day.
For NY baseball fans of that era he is an absolute icon.
If Francesa was still on the air he’d probably say he was at his bedside…
one of my HS buddies from late 60s was big Yanks fan, always played them in Strat-O-Matic. Clarke was everyday guy.
Loo as far as Cueto goes I really think with all the injuries to pitching this season on top teams Cueto will be in demand if he’s OK next few starts. the year of control as opposed to rental works in his favor even at what he’s owed. On a better team he could be quite an asset
Watched Greinke last night dominate A’s shutting them out for 6 solid with fastball rarely above 89.
My Mets fan buddy posted on Facebook: “A reminder of a golden era when the Yankees were irrelevant. RIP.” Yeah, Horace Clarke was the poster boy in that down period for the Bombers, although they did have one very good season in ’70, problem was the O’s were a powerhouse that year.
Doghairs hit bombs. Lots of ’em. And they don’t even play in a “hitters” park. That makes up a ton for the lower BA than Giants. They play the new baseball game very well…
“How do you feel about your team’s execution, coach?”
“I’m all for it.”
Love me some John McKay.
Never mind that, Chuck.
Just finish your oats and stay focused!
btw couple days ago Mr. Bol Bol got in for 24 minutes off bench for Nuggets. 9 points on 4-7 shooting including a 3, 5 boards a steal and a block. They play Utah 12:30 today.
Shit, of the starters only Smargle is really riding the bone hard. Slymy has proven to be OK, Webb looks like the real deal, Gascan is a 5, and Tyler Anderson has shown some stones. Cueto? He’s working into form hopefully.
Given that this is all some sort of extended spring training, the starting pitching isn’t the issue as much as the shotgun blast approach to the pen, and the Roberto Duran defense.
How many quality starts does the staff have this season?
Prolly one, if that. But like I said, this is like starting the season in spring training. Everyone is all over the place. What good are quality starts when you have to get 4-5 outs an inning?
The Dodgers have 3. The Padres have 2. It ain’t slowing them down. Then again they ain’t kicking the ball around like we are.
ZERO!! Only team in MLB without one. In fact i don’t think a pitcher has even competed 6, which makes getting a quality start difficult!
ding ding. correct answer. Our starting pitching is terrible.
Season off to a good start imo. Main goal? more rebuild right? 3 critical things need to happen…
1) Critical not to start too good and fool the FO In to thinking we were contenders. CHECK
2) We have maybe found a good hitter or two. A few usable relievers too CHECK
3) Getting shark and cueto some good starts to make then tradable to get a few middling prospects. Shark a giant zero. Cueto still a possibilty.
2/3 aint bad!
And along the way most of the games have been fun, and we are not getting blown out. Good for young guys to not get too used to losing, and keeping the boring old guys engaged.
I predict our SP has a good start and we win tonight 6-4
i could see Cueto stepping up tonight, too. Let’s have an Uncle Chuck upset victory in the Travers and then an upset of Kershaw in LA. Boom make it so
Giants play LA hard, they should pick up one of the next two. Houston looks like a sweep in the wrong direction.
I’m sending money to battleground states to politicians running close races against incumbent Drumpf cultists. I’ve never done anything like this before. But, I believe our country hangs in the balance. It’s not much, but every bit helps. Last night’s “news conference” of the Dear Idiot in his chandeliered golf club ballroom among his cocktail toting member millionaire buds wasn’t the last straw, but just another one. Given the millions out of work and a rampant pandemic, “Let them eat cake” and Herbert Hoover easily came to mind. This horse race is hitting the home stretch…
good for you. last night’s *press conference* was the worst. Those idiot rich dentists and their 3rd wives booing a reporter for asking a question about Covid deaths and why they weren’t wearing masks. And watching Trump scoot off the stage scared to answer the question about 6,000 new deaths…..just utterly obnoxious. Fuck him and anyone who supports him and I truly mean that.
overlord greed (in about 2% of the electorate) and the lowest form of moronic selfishness (about 40%, apparently) — the motivations for those who support trump. Should be possible to send him packing in a landslide.
Well – The conjured so called “press conference” was held at his Florida compound in front of his sock puppet membership so I’m not sure any of us would expect any other response . I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, however, its completely beyond my ability to comprehend how anyone can support this amoral, malignant narcissistic, incompetent coward…..
Yes our current pitching is beyond poor – F’n Smardzila has nothing left beyond soft tossing hanging breaking balls.
Yeah, Kap makes some curious moves sometimes, however, despite the roster/talent limitations, he has this outfit playing motivated hard team baseball on most days….I’m still a Kap fan.
I’m still cool with Kap, too. And btw not that it matters but he was at one of his golf course clubs in New Jersey, not Florida.
For a mainstream effort, I’m pretty impressed with flipthewest.com My sources in Lexington say the lack of African American support for McGrath is palpable. The polls, of course, are bad. She still has many millions in the war chest, but she spent a huge amount of money fighting the brilliant tyro from Louisville. DNC party line sucks. McConnell gets another 6 years. But other senators are vulnerable. If you can’t get rid of him, make him irrelevant.
I sent money to the Dems running current tossups against the Drumpf cultists/collaborator senators. Even Graham in SC is in play — tied or slightly ahead under the standard error of the polls. I sent the most to the woman going against Susan Collins in Maine — she is always “concerned”, but votes Drumpf down the line. She thought being impeached “taught Drumpf a lesson”, and voted to acquit. She’s the worst because she’s a pretend rationalist, but a real conspirator in fact. Even sent a few bucks to two women in NY state and Nebraska, each with good shots at overturning House cultists. If you’ve never given money to a politician, and you want this nightmare to end, now’s the time. Do a little research, it’s EZ to find those who have a real shot at winning in a tight House or Senate race. Senate is more important. I send checks so I don’t get inundated with return emails, like Fuck You does…
Early odds:
Tiz: 1-2
UC: 5-2
All others double digits…
I just don’t get why Kapler did not go get Shark when he was getting his ass scorched by the Dodgers!
Lame excuse of needing to save the bullpen with a no days off doesn’t cut it for me.
First he carrying 14 pitchers and if 1are 2 are ineffective he can bring up a couple of arms from the taxi squad team like Rodriguez &Suarez at anytime!
Speaking of cool nicknames how do you beat NY Giants player and Hall a Famer
High Pockets Kelly 👌
1. Austin Slater (R) RF
2. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
6. Hunter Pence (R) LF
7. Darin Ruf (R) DH
8. Chadwick Tromp (R) C
9. Mauricio Dubon (R) SS
Penance. Again. My god. How long?
horse racing time, I guess. I missed Bol Bol again. Here’s the most helpful tweet I received all day.
I’ve gotta buy a box of those.
Hoping for a 58″ OLED big screen…
smarge ILd with a “shoulder impingement”
I was thinking last night that Smardzxxx might need to go onto the DL after the triple donger.
Seems convenient…
Kap”s ability to manage pitchers seems non existent. He has no feel for it whatsoever. He’s like VP Pence trying to please mother in the sack.
that analogy places a lot of blame on the staff
Pence is the kind of guy who likely has very deep, dark secrets and weirdnesses. Anybody who won’t let himself be alone in a room, even in an office or other semi-public setting, with a woman not his wife — supposedly for religious reasons and respect to his wife, is not to be trusted. My father always said if you meet up with someone professing to be super religious and appears to want nothing except to bring God to you, there is one rule: hang on to your wallet…
Your dad was wise.
Uncle Chuck race coming up next (in like 25 min). He’s up against in vs the great Tiz The Law but a true Flap mascot would never take the easy road as favorite. Let’s see what he can do. Flappers everywhere, unite!
Atleast Uncle Chuck is not a nag like Pence..
Am I wrong to hang onto DL, instead of IL?
IL sounds like some kind of Formula 1 race car…
After tomorrow, the Giants will have played 12 more games than the Cardinals…
Loo can we trust you are staunchly in the corner of Uncle Chuck?
Absolutely!
Should be fun race. Unc is second choice of bettors?
Yes. Way to read a board, WillieD!
I’ve “known” you and Chuck and a few others here for over 13 years!
unc out of the money
last?
Well he was on the lead once it was clear it was over his jock stopped riding him (as he should have)
mm yeah still looking to recover in time for bigger things, right?
Another Flap dream, crushed just like all the others….
:59 flat last 5F…
Uncle Chuck ran that race like Kap not knowing when to make a pitching change or VP Pence not knowing where Mother’s g-spot is (or her vagina)
Tiz the Law to much horse 🐎 as he pulls away bigtime!
Uncle Chuck an after ran out of the money 💰 Sorry Chuck..
Ok we need a new mascot, that horse is not up to our high standards
Did we have an old mascot?
Yes the sundress goddess Anna..
Zumiee is being very careful with Chandler…
Daisy the bartender was pretty impressive
Drivin’ Miss Daisy…
A’s just won 9th in row over Stros 3-1. their SPs in last 2 games have each gone 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run, total. Springer is still out, but…
Once the road trip ends with 3 next week in Houston Giants have an off day and then 3 at home with…Oakland.
A’s will make post season, looks like no brainer. This may be their year to get through to the WS. They are loaded. Giants should make a play for Melvin when he’s free…
I think a Roooster sighting is imminent…
Surprised (in a good way) Kap is sitting Crawford for 3rd day in a row vs. LHP. maybe he figures Opie won’t be around for only x amount of pitches and only go 4-5 innings. At that point he subs back in and Dubon moves to OF etc.
Like to see Ruf show some power he brought to ST. Giants have singles hitters—time to start crushing ball.
Go re-read The story of the sundressed goddess is you want to recall our last mascot……
Just don’t bring back the real estate agent whose name I can’t recall.
back when SP ran the commuter trains I occasionally got called to brake back and forth between SJ and SF. I’d put on a blue brooks brothers suit and make an easy three hundred. My main jobs were to call out the approaching stations (mill-BRAY! red-wood-CITY!) and to attend to hot young women. There’s no way anyone working the crews back then would’ve kicked that woman off a train.
Juiced ball, anyone? Checked stats for D-Rod and Smyly this afternoon and discovered major discrepancies between their 2018 seasons and last near. No comparisons, whether ERA, WHIP, BBs or most particularly, HRs given up. Then consider Bumgarner. He truly bummed-out last year and now the Snakes beat out SF for his services. One bad contract not to worry about.
Carry of the fly-ball is so friggen obvious, particularly for the hitters who have perfected their uppercut swings. How one little adjustment–obviously the game’s powers that be made the decision that longballs are more exciting–can change the whole tenor of the contest. Some hurlers have made adjustments, but the learning curve is steep for many of them. Wondering how Suarez is gonna adjust.
Who wouldn’t rather pitch to Pence Kuip?Opie know idiot!!
This is why one Pence should be eating pine.
0-34 now 0-35 as Loo needs to adjust the roulette number!
Pence batting his IQ now. How many DHs would be outhit by any pitcher?
Place your bets gentlemen on number 33..
SOMEBODY please explain to me why Kapler decided to (1. not bench Pence for the remainder of this series at least and (2. not batting him 8th, even is he is under heavy pressure to double down on the investment. Walking our enforcer was a no-brainer for Opie. Like a sensible man he let our onetime Great Cheerleader swing away. Is our manager gonna get his act together or will Giants fans start seeing blood in each other’s eyes?
Nice eleven pitch inning outta Cueto. He keeps that up and somebody’s gonna want him before the month is over. If he can get in two or three quality starts over the next two weeks, Giants will be able to take bids.
gotta be ready to hit Opie’s fastball. He’s throwing more of them than usual so far. Tromp saw one and that was it.
You can’t profess to be trying to win and evaluate by paying Pence. Or playing him.
So far, so good with Cueto–25 pitches through two innings for an average of 12.5 per. Meanwhile, Opie gets to face the top of the Giants lineup once again. Reminder: Two of our outs were liners.
Slater was ready for the fastball! Nice call Willied!
Serve me up one of those Slater Taters!
You know–Kapler may have stumbled into finding him a leadoff man. Loved Slater’s a.b., fouling off three pitches, taking a couple of balls and then BLAMBO.
BOOM BBOOM~~~!
Back to Back, Baby!
Slater’s looking good. Yaz and Solano are solid. Now, are we done with our Hunter Penance? Please?
Sadly No..
Although how about they setup a match race between Uncle Chuck and Hunter Pence
and the loser gets euthanized…
but Uncle Chuck’s only two years old
He won’t lose..
Yazzer!!!’
Yeah they’re dialed into Opie’s FB!!
None of those pitches were strikes to Longo.
Yazmanian devil. There was a nice pattern between him and Slater, taking the occasional ball, fouling off some offerings and then…the AXE.
Pitch count on Opie–55 through three. That’s a pace of 18.33 per IP…Not much efficiency there. His fastballs are registering in the 89-91 range.
he’s not at his best, that’s for sure
Two dongs in one frame against Kershaw?
Is that a Giants record?…
What happened to Uncle Chuck? It looked like he stepped on a nail and slowed way down. The jock was beating the shit out of him and he gave up around the last turn.
the experts can correct me, but I think he’s very big, gangly, young and nervous. Very big. Maybe next year?
I thought he was 3.
He may be. If so, I guess he’s fucked.
Yes he’s 3.
Probably just tired even though the fractions were very reasonable.
Not enough foundation for this distance (as they say)…
well, he has those Thoroughbred legs: “dark and knotty rose stems” (C.E. Morgan)
Every couple of years I pay attention to horse racing and I’m always amazed at the pagan rituals. The offerings stand up as soon as they’re born and they’re running within one year and then they’re racing until they’re three — if they survive that long. Damdnest thing.
Jesus. Pence needs to get a mystery injury in a big way. His OPS+ (whaterthefuck that is) is -42.
Can’t be good.
Maybe Lexi can expose him Covaid19 and they both end up on ventilators..
Well, maybe just a raging case of herpes.
.032 now!
The roulette number keeps getting lower!
Pence has such a pussy swing now it looks like both his spindly legs are off the ground when he swings..
When you start the inning with an automatic out it’s something like that new rule where the visitors get a man on second in the top off the tenth. Nevertheless, Opie is at 69 pitches through 4 IP, so with a bit of help from Kapler’s Great Cheerleader, he’s lowered his per inning pace from 18.3 pitches by a full pitch to 17.3. Meanwhile, Cueto’s zero hits through three look good, but his pitch-count second time around is on an upward trajectory.
Now that inning, facing the meatiest part of the LaBumbos lineup was efficient. His per inning average pitch-count is a full 4 lower than Opie’s at 13.3. Couple more innings like that and rotation-hungry teams are gonna start drooling and checking over their pipeline prospects. Oh, 3.86 as of the third inning. Cueto would make an excellent #3 for some team. Currently, he’s one of our three effective starters and definitely the horse.
WOW!!!
Double serving of Slater taters!
Dos Staler Taters!
Off the cutter too good for Slater not cheapies either.
Slater Tater #2!!!
Own age of Opie!!
Donnie Barrel’s second hit!
Has Slater found his groove, or what? This guy just might be for real.
Yas, Yaz!!! I can’t remember the last time we rocked Opie like this.
Yaz! Almost went yard again!
