Solid Win
How about Wilmet? This guy just keeps on raking. The top of our line up looks great with Slater, Yaz and Wilmet. It falls off dramatically after that but maybe Bart can spark up the second half.
Crawford hit his 100th career bomb. I went back and forth on whether that sounds like a lot. On one hand, he’s had such a wet noodle bat for as long as I can remember, it sounds like a HUGE number. On the other hand, he’s been on the team for hundred and hundreds of years, he’s bound to run into 100 balls over that amount of time…..
thx everyone. Hope by this time next year we’ve managed to meet up with one another over a ballgame somewhere.
Yes!
Happy birthday!
all these years Loo has quietly told us about Wilmet, some of us have poo poo’d it because of analytics, and now here he is, in all his glory, dominating. This is just like 1.0 last year…..
Isn’t it Wilmer?
Smart hitting from Flores. He let that pitch go by for strike one earlier in the game. This time he ambushed it. He knew they’d try to steal strike one again.
Acquiring Flores was tremendous. I miss trades tho Z pulled off some good ones last season; Loo’s were always intriguing.
I was looking up Jose Uribe earlier when we were talking about SS. Forgot he came over from Cards in the Jack Clark deal
Webb managed to settle down too, good for him. A real quality start!
Yes! Judging from his run through the pipeline, Webb is quality and if Cueto brings in a haul, our spider most probably becomes the staff ace by default, as he settles in to being in The Show.
Dude, email me at student-athlete@hotmail.com aka Clutch
WTF was that all about–replacing Ruf with El Gordo? Ruf wasn’t injured or anything, was he? Using Twin’s old standby: Stoopid.
Lefty vs. RHP, though why not Dick?
That left-right shit has gotta quit—even though the concept has gone on for decades, the inanity and insanity has gotten waaaaay outta hand with this anal-antics crappola.
Hey Willie . . . Just got off the horn with Chi and he mentioned you having a birthday, so I stopped by to wish you a happy birthday! I hope you were able to enjoy your special day with family and friends. Love you man! 🙂
Solid start for Webby!
Damn! Nice to see Webb get straightened-out.
Here’s what the “analytics” say about Flores:
Career against LHP, 661 ABs, 37 HRs. He’s a 28 year old utility player. That’s why he’s here. Who campaigned against Flores because of “analytics”?
YazMataz. Let’s add on Gigantes.
Apologies if this has been shared already….Read today where Morantas has been throwing FBs off a mound since June and could be activated by month’s end.
Happy Birthday Willie D!
Can’t wait to hang out again.
Junior Guerra is a pretty not too bad pitcher with a mid 3.00’s ERA. Made no difference to YazmaTaZ as one of baseball’s better two-strike hitters he smashes his 10th double. At his current pace, Z’s finest find to date, would have 50+ doubles in a 162 game season.
Bart stole strike three with how he caught that low pitch. I replayed it several times to see how he did it. Caught the ball with his glove coming up very smoothly. He didn’t jerk his glove to frame the pitch.
Undoubtedly, it was the extra 2 weeks at the alt site.
🙂
First career RBI!
Worked him for a 11 pitch walk, that’s RBI worth.
SUPERLATIVE AB by Bart. Guerra did all he could to get him with an up and high pitch after consistently pitching him low in the zone. Bart wore him down in the ultimate 3-2 count after fouling off pitch after pitch. He’s got one helluva batting-eye and level of self-control at the plate was through the roof. Word’s gonna get around fast that you just can’t pitch to the dude as he wears you out. Driving in his first ML run was a work of art. Joey keeps this up and he becomes a legend.
No exactly habla Español, but my take is that “Guerra” means something like “warrior”. Well, he just went Mano a Mano against our looming legend and he lost that one.
Well, I guess this is when I started campaigning for Wilmet.
Not all brilliant, but Panik and Strick did eventually play for Mets.
Some Met broadcaster must’ve said 3B is Wilmet’s best position.
I wouldn’t know…
djloo27 said, on August 8, 2017 at 4:08 pm (Edit)
Panik is a great fit for the Mets and we can plug Specs right into second base. They have 2 guys that I would really like to get – Wilmer Flores (whose best position is 3B) and Juan Lagares (injury prone, but great defensive CF who I think will hit as a Giant). Assuming Panda flops, I would offer the Mets Panik, Strickland, Gorky and Okert for those two…
He made a fantastic pick at 3B on a ~110 mph one hop grounder early in the year. It was more reassuring than his play at 1B a week ago.
Specs!
Flores did start a 3-6-3 DP earlier, so that’s progress!
Jeez, poor Vogt.
What a beating…
El Gordo is hitting well below a hundred points beneath his avoirdupois.
Solano did NOT go down easy in that AB. Nine pitches. I like the way Giants hitters are working those counts. It’s most valuable, of course, when they do it early in the game against the starters so they can quickly chomp down on some tasty bully-beef.
I didn’t think Kapler is as dumb as he looks, he’s bringing in Rogers instead of trying to lose the game with Gott..
It’s his Kevin Cash, no one has a fixed role moment.
Seems like the Brain-trust has, even pre-season, been looking hard at Rogers for the closer role. Particularly if opponents have been looking at high-heat or crazy-assed yakkers from the setup men, Rogers befuddles them with a totally different look with those submariner torpedos. Methinks Gott was just a veteran interim going into the season. He escaped the first three episodes by the skin of his chompers, but got exploded by going a bridge too far.
My take is that considering exactly who they would face situationally, Rogers and Doctor Watson will be role-switching between setup and closing.
Have the Arizona “soot” uniforms been dumped altogether?
Not sure. Those are/were some ugly unis, IMO.
Postgame show was mentioning Pablo’s whole family/relatives have been suffering from Covid-19,definitely could take a toll on his mind set, not sure if they’re an excuse we can use for Hunter..
And dats a win.
Nice W. Giants continue to use the long ball.
Happy B-Day win for WilleD! 🎂🎈
2-0 under the Bart Train regime!🚂
Bart is a preview of coming attractions. IF Zaidi/Harris opt to trade Cueto, the return should be a high upside rotation piece due to arrive by ’22. Gausman goes and he should bring a lights-out reliever, or relief prospect who could serve in middle innings as the designated fireman. With Watson and Rogers taking care of the last couple of innings, a fireman could round out the bullpen THIS year. Maybe they could go by committee, but with only those three roles pretty mostly set.
Morantas could be back by end of August too. This according to The Atlantic (Baggs).
So, is it 69 or 70, WD? Count Basie!
ha 69. Yes Count Basie, also twin musicians trumpeter Art and bassist Addison Farmer.
for ballplayers, um our old buddy Triple O Adrianza is all I noticed
Mild left groin strain for Slater, MRI tomorrow.
Let’s keep those digits crossed. If it is mild, the wait shouldn’t be overlong. If the Brass prefers to err on the side of caution, maybe the shortest possible IL for Slater. Should it be a quickie, maybe it’s time to park El Gordo and bring up Davis.
Just a thought…we have to have some pitchers next year. lets keep Guasman. he has very good stuff, and would be an excelent 4th or 5th starter, an has pitched out of the pen so he if flexible. 29 years old
Like stats? I love em right about now, particularly as regards some truly Giant stats by YazmaTaz:
OPS #5 1.056 Slg. #8 .650, OBP #9 .435 Avg. #15 .320, BB #3 21, RBI #9 with Mookie and others @ 21, HRs #25 (tied in a cluster), 3B t-#2 @ 3, 2B T#3 @ 10, H. tied at #7 with Solano and Abreau (not bad company, b.t.w.), R. T2 at 25 with Tatis (also not bad company) AND XBH: #1 in MLB !!! with 19 (one more than Tatis with his mass of salamis getting all the headlines.)
My. prediction: Yaz keeps it up and if Tatis were In the AL, our #1 would be the NL MVP, hands down. As things stand, the Friar Tucker’s star is the spectacular headline man and if HE keeps up the pace, will edge out YaZmaTaZ, but not by a crazy-assed margin as our guy is a smooth, steady performer who excels in every major offensive category out there. Defensively, If you saw Carl’s grandkid make that full-tilt diving catch of a sinking fly into RF, you’d be every bit as proud as his grand-dad.
BTW: In case you didn’t catch it, these stats are not merely NL, but for the whole damned MLB.
Agree on Gausman, Mr. SportDude. Deal Cueto (only if you can get a really good prospect in return). Would deal Solano too, again, of he brought a top prospect.
You think Vogt had a rough night?
Pence and Panda still have no business being on this team. I mean at least Crawfish is hitting a little and is playing better d that last year, and Belt is , well, Belt, but Pence and Panda are doing nothing.
We finished a game using ony 3 pitchers. A first this year? Has to be.
We need a few good placeholders. i sign Solano to a 2 year deal. Yaz too. Now.
In 2022 team will have money and lots of positions to fill. Bore core will be gone, with only Posey still around (my guess is he signs again). If solano and yaz gone they will have only 2 players. Posey and Bart. Too much to fill.
Check out the Giants prospect list of top 30 on the MLB.com official site. Position players with plus possibilities are abundant. We may still be short a #1 or #2 starter, but to judge from his minor stats and his performance tonight, Webb could well fill that role. Also keep in mind that Beede is out for this shortened season with a bad owwie, but should be ready next season. He’s pretty talented. Hjelle could become a satisfactory #3. But when it comes to pitching a bit of a surplus is always best–preferably homegrown–though F.A.s with talent tend to like the park dimensions at Oracle.
I agree on keeping Yaz, but there are a lot of position players in our minor pipeline that are supposed to be up in 2022. That said, if they can get a really good prospect for Solano, I would make that move.
On the pitching side, I would keep Gausman, and deal Cueto (again, only if you can get a very good prospect).
