A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Another W

Anderson stepped up huge and Kap let him be huge– a very important game for both of them.

It’s hard to enjoy baseball right now but I’m trying. Know lots of people displaced by the fires. Air quality is shit. Buddy of mine went back to his house in Felton to look for his cat.

Got him.

    Nice DP by Longo.

  3. Carstie Clausen said, on August 23, 2020 at 3:40 pm

That’s a bit better. Lowballed the Starling and he started pecking away at it.

You can turn off autocorrect, Stix.

Nice comeback by Jolly Rogers, with the Longo assist.

What’s with this Belt guy? Has he discovered a time-machine and journeyed back to 2014? We’ll take it. Double doubles, gets him into competition with Yaz and Bart.

    • James said, on August 23, 2020 at 3:47 pm

I’m glad Belt still has more than one friend at the Flap, Stix.

  7. Carstie Clausen said, on August 23, 2020 at 3:46 pm

Now even the Kung-Fu Panda has boarded that time-machine.

After bein’ down, it takes a while for the dauber to come back up…

    • James said, on August 23, 2020 at 4:14 pm

Depends on how long the winning streak lasts.

All of a sudden, Kap got smart?…

    • unca_chuck said, on August 23, 2020 at 4:31 pm

Gott never stepped in the field. And the SPs went deep.

      • James said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:13 pm

Sounds kinda like a cognitive test Trump would be bragging about passing . . . .

It is as we all said since the start of the season…bring Joey Batts up and we cant fucking lose!!! Love ya Hunter but was about time…

  20. Carstie Clausen said, on August 23, 2020 at 4:16 pm

Wow! From the deep, dire depths of 8-16 to the neighborhood of mediocre at 14 `-16. Were it not for the Gottsperiences SF would be at 17-13. Thirty games in now. Half the season. Offense has taken off. Defense is tightening up. Starters are going longer–even that totally unexpected CG by TyA. Kapler seems to be growing with the team, making some good PH choices yesterday and having sorted out his bullies to the point where the Snakes managed only four hits off Cahill and a parade of relievers.

Point number next: If it can all hang together, this team could be a MONSTER surprise, provided no key players get injured, the dam don’t burst as the rains come down. At this point, neither Cueto nor Gausman is likely to get blown around in the trade-winds unless some offer of quality prospects simply blows away the Z & H combine.

  21. willedav said, on August 23, 2020 at 4:26 pm

BC 7-14 with 3 doubles couple runs scored and driven in. Yeah laughed at Snarkk’s 4:04 (Kap got smart) above, Kap can suddenly do no wrong. Week ago we’d have been all over him for trotting those 4 out there.

Good for Dickerson, been waiting for more like what we saw when we were there last year, especially with all this “park plays smaller to RF” noise. that one looked like it didn’t any help.

  22. willedav said, on August 23, 2020 at 4:33 pm

Btw, props to Z/Harris for making the right move on Pence. They brought him in here and after a couple HRs twitter/FB was full of outpouring of sympathy and good tidings for him. bottom line they realized SF is just a better team without him, now and forever. As others said earlier, stunning move, in right direction.

  23. Flavor said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:05 pm

i wish they’d ditched Pablo instead of Pence. Pence has hit the ball harder this season than Pablo has. He also hasn’t gotten to just go exclusively vs LH pitching which is why he was brought in. He also weighs about 300 pounds less……

    • James said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:21 pm

Maybe if he hadn’t screwed up those 2 plays in left and right, it would have played out that way. Pence’s 2019 was remarkable, and any difference between the parks was never great enough to account for such a dramatic drop off in offense.

      • snarkk said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:51 pm

At some point, the 12 cups of coffee isn’t going to help your skills…

  24. mrsprtdude said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:31 pm

So exactly 5 weeks left. Teams will play different number of games. Ready for this??

If the season ended today the Giants would be the 7th seen in NL playoffs! My worst fear, just ike last year. A hot streak just before the trading deadline. Sigh

    • Flavor said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:48 pm

dude don’t worry about the trading deadline for a nano-second. This year is a joke, everyone knows it, nobody is trading anything of value to win a sham trophy in a season that might get canceled anyway. I’m totally opps as I was last year–last year I feared what you’re fearing now and of course it came to pass. We also had like 6 teams to leapfrog last year which was a near mathematical impossibility.
This year? Fuck it, let’s roll. What else we got to do besides hope we slide into the last playoff spot?

  25. mrsprtdude said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:32 pm

I don’t know if I can listen to much of this KNBR post-game on weekends. Marty Lurie has given it up.
The only good thing about the somnambulist Bill Laskey as host is that he drives me to drink…

    • Flavor said, on August 23, 2020 at 5:59 pm

Laskey is hilarious, he’s awful. He’s most fun when he’s trying to coax Vida through a show but I don’t know if Vida is still doing that with him or not. I’ve missed this season’s post game shows. Doesn’t Marty have his harem scurrying around finding him facts and notes to tell over the air? He’s got a couple chicks he *interviews* now and again, they say the most obvious shit and he acts like they’re breaking it down. It’s awesome.

      • snarkk said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:08 pm

Marty only does pre-game now. Laskey takes the post-game sans Vida. IDK why, maybe Marty at around 74 decided he didn’t want to work 12 hour days on weekends. Don’t know if the hot “Beercan” is still with him. Marty still has his chicks do a few minutes. It is amusing. You’re right, they have the most simpleton takes, yet Marty slobbers all over them like they’ve just told us how to cure Covid in between the Pen needs to keep the ball down. Laskey sportstalk, OMG, is like elevator music. I pine for the late, great Salty to call in from Giants heaven (not Clovis) and yell at Laskey that he’s an under .500 boring host, kinda like his Giants career…

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:00 pm

That’s okay–as long as he’s the one doing the driving and you’re handling the drinking in a nice comfy chair.

  29. Carstie Clausen said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:08 pm

Wouldja believe? SF jumped two whole places in the standings, barely edging the Rox with a .467 percentage vs. 464. A week ago would any of us have believed we’d be in third place tonight.

  30. Macdog said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:10 pm

Obviously enjoying the hitting, but these are the numbers I really like during this streak:
    Runs allowed — 2, 2, 5, 2, 1, 1. Also no HRs allowed vs. D-Backs.

  31. Flavor said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:17 pm

I haven’t heard Marty mention Beer Can in a couple of years. That’s going down as the greatest nickname anyone has ever given a lady. Hands down, actually….

    • snarkk said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:24 pm

If they’re still together, good on him…

  32. Flavor said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:20 pm

One diff between this year and last year: no teams to jump. The math never made any sense last year. This year, hey why not. I’m all about them getting in! Are you kidding me? It would be fantastic that the fucking Giants slip into the post season. And then if LA won you can just say “go fuck yourselves and win one when it’s not a fraud season.” This is all working out splendidly in my opinion……
And you guys, seriously, fuck the trade deadline. There will be no prospects of consequence traded at the deadline especially for any of our guys. Just try to win as many games as possible this year with nobody getting Covid.
So far this season is outpacing even my highest expectations, especially when you consider their health.

    • snarkk said, on August 23, 2020 at 6:28 pm

I am very surprised the Covid outbreaks have not been more widespread. They had the Marlins and Cards and Phills problems early on, then the league must have got their S together and tightened up on the guys. I still see players in the dugout not wearing masks. They must be good about going directly from the ballpark to home. Giants, despite that bad stretch with Gott, have been generally pretty interesting and competitive. I like the offense, the scoring. Now that Bart is up, that’s a big jolt to the interest level…

    i can get behind this

Shocking sad news about Steve Earle’s son. I saw Justin perform at one of the SF venues many years ago.
“Justin Townes Earle, the singer-songwriter and son of Steve Earle, has died. The news was confirmed on his official Facebook page on Sunday night. He was 38. This story is developing.”

    • xoot said, on August 23, 2020 at 7:20 pm

Terrible news. I saw Justin Townes Earle at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. He talked a lot about his teenage drug use and about kicking heroin. As a kid, he played kick-ass guitar on one of his father’s best rock songs, Here I Am, which, obviously, is about survival. Damn.

I saw Peter Rowan and so many other performers at the Hardly Strictly Festival in Golden Gate Park over the years.
When will there be music festivals again? No one knows, of course.

No, he’d make fun of this boy…
