WOW
I don’t care if this is a sham season. I don’t care if there are no fans in the park. That was one of the best, most exciting games the Giants have played in years. Belt is swinging the bat and actually making contact. Solano is walking it off. What world is this?
Ok, I have to share one quick Trump grifter email with you. A couple of days ago we discussed me sending in $5 just to try to make it on the chyron as “Fuck from California” and you guys properly talked me out of it because it is just another one of his petty grifting scams. But they sent me an email with a pic of what the glorious moment could look like, here it is:

Now, the pic is funny in its own right. But look at the tv. That has to be a tv from the early 80s right? Who would own a tv like that today? Maybe someone in the midwest. Someone poor and probably uneducated. It is just so obvious who they are trying to target with these pathetic money grab ads. It’s 2020 what type of person still has a tv like that?
The type of person who would send The Grifter in Chief his last $5……
Dodgers had leads all night. 3-0 6-3 6-5 with Jansen in there 9th 7-6 and 8-7.
And still lost, with Betts and all their all stars. Even in this season doesn’t look like team capable of ending 30+ year drought.
The Bore Core was amazing. They refused to go quietly into the night.
I’m tempted to think Pence being released lit a fire under them, but that’s probably not it. They have pride, and have been embarrassed to be the Bore Core.
Kinda hard to keep Belt out of lineup tonite even vs. Opie.
LA in box score credited with something i don’t think I’ve ever seen before—3 blown saves in same game.
How is this for dream scenario—if playoffs started with current pcts., 1-8 match up would be LA-SF.
Oh hell yeah. I’d take that seeding in a nano second!!
This weird baseball interlude has been more engrossing than any of the last few seasons, even prior to the winning streak. I really expected not to give a shit about it. Change is good is all that I can come up with.
One teensy takeaway from all the fun and hoopla last night was the reappearance of Gott and by golly, gum goodness he didn’t blow it. Just so K doesn’t get too amped about it and place him in a closer situation with a huge lead again…or a closer situation period.
I think he failed the audition. Assuming he’s suffered his share of outsized misfortune and things balance out, he’ll be only a little less valuable as part of the 6th-8th inning mix.
I guess we are closer by committee for now.
That was an amazing ballgame. You couldn’t ask more from the bore core they really came through. Right now Giant/Dodger games are fun and mean something. My mindset has always been if we can’t go make sure they can’t either. Even if we make the playoffs i can’t get to excited but what i do like is the way we are playing and the hopefulness of carrying it over to next year. Walk offs against the Dodgers truly bring life to this season.
You stole my thoughts Craig. This sham, crazy assed season has been so entertaining. I had no idea…I don’t think any of us did. This team has shown to be resilient, but damned, last night added another level and chapter. To beat our nemisis, our biggest rivals, the team with the best record in baseball, in that fashion, was just…well, WOW.
Looking back at Cueto starts, his second one was Tromp debut, July 29 game Cueto vs. Pads. He gave up bomb to Machado and couldn’t finish 4th inning having thrown 87 pitches. Shaun Anderson didn’t help matters and SF was down 6-1 before winning it on Yaz walk off bomb.
Since then gradually improved and lowered the ERA though Tromp was in there for LA game when Cueto’s day ended giving up the 3 run bomb to Turner after foot blister mound visit yada yada. Last 2 games before last night he had not given up HR in 10 innings.
So… are we calling BS on Kruk blaming lack of communication with Bart for Cueto frustration and difficulties last night?
Yes on calling BS. Six relievers came in after Cueto and didn’t appear to have any issues with Bart all while putting up zeroes. It wasn’t until Garcia that it became a problem again, then two more relievers again no problem. Even Pierzynski on FS1, who with his partner also had harped on the Cueto-Bart issue, eventually conceded that it was all on Cueto.
I think there can be a comfort level thing between catcher and pitcher. Look at Lincecum and Buster, for a long time they didn’t seem all that comfortable as batterymates.
And yeah, it’s gonna be hard to keep red-hot Belt out of the lineup even with his woeful numbers vs. Opie.
Missed the ending last night, nice to wakeup to a big win.
One thing about the teams that Zaidi has put together the last two years, they sure play outta their heads at the deadline. Keep playing like this in this short season and like Loo said, we might be able to steal one.
I don’t know. They obviously struggled last night. Cueto was shaking off Bart all game. He didn’t establish a rhythm all night.
That being said, this was the first game where Bart looked like a rookie. He’s still got learning to do. ANd he has to stop swinging at the up and in fastball.
lot of loud contact, especially from Turner and Seager. How much of that is on Bart?
Your getting recognition BF evev if you didn’t donate I see Fuck on the old tv 📺 screen!
A rookie catcher with minimal Mi League experience is always going to be an adventure. Book it. Bart will have his yips and last night both behind and at the plate showed that. But the important thing is that we won that contest of contests with our #1 adversary and the carry-over from that is the camaraderie of having each other’s backs is going to stick with him. Giants are becoming like Dumas’ Three Musketeers: “All for one and one for all.”
Tonight its Opie and even though he has recovered from his mild doldrums we are still in his head and better believe it, Gausman is gonna be all in on this one. These are the rally Boyz. That first inning homer by Turner appeared to be the knock of doom. But then Urias got Belted and it all evened out. Went that way the whole game. LaBumbos scrambled back on top and like one of those Roll-Poly toys, Giants simply bounced on back. An improbable victory again tonight and we’d have the LabBumbos constantly checking their rearview mirror.
Bart had trouble communicating with Cueto and Garcia. I guess it’s time to open the Athletic to see if there are any insights offered there. Baggarly wouldn’t shy away from difficult issues.
The bums had good plans for pitching to Yaz and Bart. They executed well. They did well vs. Solano too, until a slider hung. Maybe they didn’t take Belt seriously enough?
Seems like a long time since a strange game went into late-night extras with a gratifying walkoff to finally turn out the lights. That was a lot fun. And I didn’t miss the seagulls.
5 are 6 games behind the plate doesn’t make him Johnny Bench,Bart still learning every pitcher on the staff, that’s like 14 individual head trips,He will learn them all it just takes time.
I do wish he would show a better target with glove though, he seems to always pound into the ground as the pitcher is in windup which u might think would be a distraction for the pitcher.
Posey,Bench and the rest of the greats just have a nice framed target to show there pitcher moving the glove in are out up are down but with good visualization..
Are the Giants buyers or sellers right now? And how will that exactly work?
Are advanced scouts allowed at all the other teams practice sites? How do the Giants evaluate the prospects they are interested in and vice versa? Will this lack of evaluation make the Giants and other teams hesitant to pull the trigger on some trades?
Belt’s trade value will never be higher than it is right now.
the alternative sites haven’t allowed scouts in. Some of the scouts started shouting about it recently when the Phillie’s alt site welcomed small numbers of fans, with restrictions. Concessions were sold. The scouts were pissed off.
Neither. I think this will be a very quiet trade deadline.
Damm just like last year with they’re miracle July run, the Giants have Zman scratching his head as the deadline approaches. They should be sellers but with more teams eligible for playoffs maybe he’s a buyer?
That tv is for the man of the people:)
You forgot rich white in that.
I dunno Chuck. Most Democrats I know are pretty damn affluent. They drive nice cars, live in nice houses (often gated) in white neighborhoods, and would never set foot in a place like Wal Mart or McDonald’s.
ppic.org, re Calif: “An overwhelming majority of African American likely voters (72%) and a majority of Latino likely voters (58%) are registered as Democrats. Among Asian American likely voters, four in ten (43%) are registered as Democrats, . . . Party registration among white likely voters is more evenly divided, with 40% registered as Democrats, 35% as Republicans, and 20% as independents.”
Yeah Ill take an 8-1 playoff matchup and super underdog status for a shot at them in the playoffs even if it means we dont dump or trade more vets…Cueto maybe but what does he bring right now???
Baggarly:
“Kapler said the Giants had similar communication issues early on with Tyler Heineman and Chadwick Tromp when it came to relaying the second and third alternate signs with runners on second base. Other teams are dealing with the same issues as they use ever more complicated methods to combat industrial espionage.”
Of course, Garcia started the 10th with Turner at 2B.
Remember when Roger Craig (I think it was him) called EVERY PITCH from the dugout? Goddamn, I didn’t realize it at the time but that was some serious control freak shit. Maybe we go back to that tho. Take that off the table for Bart to worry about. Kap calls the game, if the P shakes it off Bart just throws down another sign–rather than having him worrying about calling every pitch. Thoughts?
No problem with that here.
The other two catchers on the roster aren’t knowledgeable about these MLB hitters, either…
Bart’s growing pains are expected. He’s playing here because there is no AAA, AA. Better he find out now where are the holes in his swing, his defensive deficiencies, things he needs to work on to compete at the MLB level. If he were in Sac playing catch, none of that stuff is radically exposed, and his development is at a standstill…
Willie, I think the lack of being on the same page did affect Cueto’s pitching. He likes to get in a rhythm and pitch quickly. It wasn’t happening last night. I mean, if Bart is simply running through all the signs to get to the one Cueto (or whomever) wants, then there’s a communication problem.
Gaining a feel for what the situation calls for by count, batter, inning, etc. is a learned skill, but from what I heard about the scrimmages, Bart was doing well in that regard.
Speaking of catchers… as a gesture of goodwill, the Giants traded Rob Brantly to the Yankees in a effort to save NY from using Kratz!
For $1 dollar! Wow. That’s gotta sting a bit.
Dang, I was trying to add the Trading Places one dollar GIF. Oh well.
You mean I could of purchased Brantley for a buck to do yard work?
lulz
Chuck, I hear you, working with Bart was a struggle. I do think there were other contributing factors though. for one this is third time LA has seen Cueto, and they homered off him last time out too with Tromp in there. Plus, the missed locations, especially on meatball he threw 3-0 to Muncy that he hammered.
Maybe more time spent together sorts things out better. Cueto is pretty unique as a pitcher.
Think we will see the new acquisition Daniel Robertson get called up next.Besides able to play SS,3B,2B he has played LF also where the are thin at with RH batters right now with Ruf &Dubon the only 2…
Sept/Oct is great weather in the Bay Area, but they don’t want to play in the Oakland mausoleum…
retractable roofs at both Texas ballparks. With sequestering, health would probably be ok. No one wants to play in the E Coli. I think the Giants would benefit from facing the bums outside their (the bums’) home field, not that the cutouts will care.
the fall from grace was swift indeed for good ol’ D-Rod
Could of easily have been Suarez if you ask me, he stinks..
Rickard? wow what’s up with Slater?
He’s on the DL with a pulled muscle or something like that for the umpteenth time…..
Braves RHP Ian Anderson with nice debut today vs. Yanks, 1 run in 6 IP.
definitely a Benefit
As a Yanks hater, I Stand Up and applaud him.
The shunning of Jaylen Davis blows my mind. Rickard sucks. Dubon looked absolutely DREADFUL at the plate for weeks, but they stuck with him and he has turned the corner a bit. I’d love to see Davis get the same treatment.
Agree SanDog..Jaylin Davis is getting rear ended by this organization.
How to you do any approving in a stupid alternative site when nobody wants to be there and there just sitting shootin the breeze??
He needs big league pitchers to face not soft toss batting practice coaches..
Thought they might have went with Robertson, but either way they needed another RH bat in the outfield so Rickard gets a another cup of Joe until Slater gets back..
If Davis sucks so bad…..DFA his ass and pick up somebody else off the scrap heap. But just letting him rot in Sactown on our 40 man???? I don’t get it.
Because he can’t even hit period right now, even against G’s AAA pitchers in Sac. They are working on his swing, but he’s struggling.
Big mistake if they do that imo
I just can’t believe the Giants have more faith in Grave Duggar then they have in Jaylin Davis?
Oh don’t go taking shots at my boy Duggar, Kat!! This is between Rickard and Davis!!
Gotcha Dog!!
We can both agree it should be Davis over Rickard atleast..
It sounds like game will likely be cancelled tonight due to player protests. Bunch of other games cancelled already.
I’m only seeing the Brewers/Reds game cancelled so far, but yes all basketball games are cancelled..
Why is Darin Ruf batting cleanup tonight?
Does he have extraordinary numbers against Opie?
.167 (1-6), so that’s a no.
Those Jethro Tull references by Willie and Mac did not go unnoticed. Very cool 🙂
ah I have Nothing to Say (love the lyrics and nice out chorus)
I’m not claiming to know the whole story, but an unarmed black man getting shot seven times in the back after all our nation went through this past summer is complete idiotic callousness and tone-deafness by the police.
It’s like the police officer shooting the black man in the back at the Atlanta Burger King. It just boggles the mind, coming after the murder of George Floyd.
There is something so basically wrong about the way many police are trained in this nation. No wonder people just want to rebuild police forces from scratch and just start it all over.
A lot of things would change if police officers were held more accountable for their actions, as in more officers being arrested for crimes such as murder, and convicted and sent to prison.
The cops tazed him, he got out of it, and walked away from them, his back to them. He has no weapon that I can see. They drew down while he was walking away, his back to them. They followed him and as he was 1/2 way into his car, the one cop grabbed him with the left hand from behind and just emptied his gun into the guy’s back, point blank. The cops are pissed, and are ready to take out the person regardless that there is no mortal danger in the situation at hand. I don’t think training fixes that. At the bubble today, Doc Rivers gave an off the cuff speech on this and our country’s situation. Worth a look…
I’ll be amazed if the Giants play tonight.
Giants said they were not playing an hour ago. Good for them. It is fucking bullshit what continues to go on in this country with the police. That motherfucker got shot damn near execution style for nothing except walking away from them. I’m sure he is a scum bag but that doesn’t change the fact that unarmed dudes don’t deserve to be getting shot 7 times in the back. Here’s what I don’t get about cops (who I generally dislike but still support): If you feel you have to shoot someone howsabout you shoot the motherfucker in the leg, once. Then reassess the situation. Why do they have to unload the entire magazine into the body? What am I missing here??????
EZ.
Dead guys make bad witnesses for the prosecution…
Baggs twitter thread has Dodgers listing a lineup as of half hour ago.
conflicting reports but seeing a lot of “no game” tonight
there are no conflicting reports. They are NOT playing. The Giants voted on it and said, around 4:45pm, they weren’t playing.
yes ESPN which was supposed to carry it, says right now it’s cancelled.
dude fuck ESPN I been saying this for an hour lol
this isn’t the best tweet for info but it’s been widely reported that the players left the field and voted not to play after everyone left at 4pm
Game is officially cancelled!
Weird that the Giants posted their LU card which is still up but the Dodgers didn’t..
I wonder if we play a double tomorrow.
Somewhere in the mid-80s early 90s the decision was made at some level that if you are going to shoot, shoot to kill. Injuring someone with a gun ends up in lawsuits. Sure, this will as well, but you look at 90% of these cases, and these cops usually empty their guns.
Throw in qualified immunity, and there you go.
you need to watch this a few times to figure out what’s going on. In the beginning the Rittenhouse guy is on the ground and he kills two people. He gets up and starts running back down the street. He puts his hands up and runs right by police WHILE CARRYING A MACHINE GUN and the dude taking the video is yelling “he just shot those guys!!!!!!!” And Rittenhouse goes home. He went fucking home.
He’s in for a special kind of pain in prison.
This is absolutely surreal. Cops shoot a guy 7 times who isn’t doing anything but pulling away from a cop, but let a white guy with a semi-auto rifle with his hands up, knowing people have been shot nearby, walk away.
Trump is the cause of this insurrection of militant idiots. He and his entire motherfucking family should be thrown in jail for inciting violence. Throw in McConnell, Ryan, Pompeo, Barr, and the rest of his enabling cronies.
Much like Dylan Roof getting taken to Burger King by the cops before they took him in.
Time to watch “Shock Corridor” again. I’ve seen almost all of the Sam Fuller’s at least twice, but have avoided seeing this one again because the ending creeped me out when I saw it years ago. Still not ready to watch “White Dog” , currently unavailable on Criterion anyway . . . .
Giants/Dodgers Doubleheader scheduled at 1 pm tomorrow..
here’s the problem with all this: cops shoot defenseless citizens, riots ensue, Trump gets to shout Law and Order. Cops start it, people protest it, Trump uses it to his advantage. Because at the end of the day middle America cares more about law and order than they do justice. I know I’m right about this and you’re gonna see it play out in the election……
Don’t forget also the right wing agitators that in some cases infiltrate the protests to gin up violence level…
Some? I think it’s about 75%. The umbrella man in Minn was a right-wing nut job.
The murderer last night in Kenosha is a 17 year old wannabe cop and Drumpfnut, who with photo evidence was in the first row at a Drumpf Nuremburg rally back in January. He came in across the border with an AR-15 from Illinois to “protect” Kenosha…
but that’s my point, right? Trump loves this shit. The more violence there is the easier it is for him to shout “law and order!!!!!!!” It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he’s encouraging the cops to do this shit at this point.America is feeding right into this grifting fuck. They are handing him the election with these protests right now……
He loves the violence. It’s straight out of his reichminister of mayhem Steven Miller’s handbook…
law and order, which is a stupid 3rd grade thing to shout as it is, is all this fuck has. He’s done nothing in 4 years. So he’s going to now run on a fear campaign. It’s outrageous that this is happening. How is this actually happening???????/
I’m old enough to remember this same law and order shit being peddled by George Wallace in 1968. Thing is, he wasn’t the president. Nixon did it too, to a lesser extent in that election, and started the racist “Southern Strategy” for the Repubs, which has morphed into Drumpf’s blatant racist outreach today. It is incredible that we are here some 155 years after the end of the Civil War…
And I am declaring this very clearly tonight: From here on out to the election not one single word can be written at THE FLAP supporting Trump or anything supporting something related to his dumbass. Your comment will be deleted/you will possibly be banned. I am so disgusted and embarrassed by what has happened to our country in the last 4 years. Let’s keep it a Giants blog. But, I will tolerate some political comments as long as it is against Trump being re-elected. I don’t care how biased this sounds. This is how it’s going to be till this FUCK is defeated and hopefully sent to prison or……worse.
That’s bullshit, man. Either ban politics totally or let both sides have their say. Hell—99% of the political comments on here bash Trump—and you insist on taking it to 100?
It’s already more of a left wing politics blog than a baseball blog as is.
Covid-19 still swallows all other news stories, and Trump will likely lose the election because of it. His poll numbers are terrible, including in the swing states. He’s left to voter suppression tactics, including blatantly sabatoging the post office.
Sure, he could still win, given the ridiculous Electoral College system, but his poll numbers resemble Bob Dole in ‘96.
Sometime in September the 200,000th person in the U.S. will die from Covid-19.
A vast majority of schools are far from opening regular school. The business world, in an overall sense, is getting hammered.
The stock market is doing well, the one aspect of the economy that Trump can still gaslight effectively. But it’s not built on solid ground. The virus is nowhere near under control throughout the nation.
The national debt is now bigger than the monetary value of the entire U.S. economy for the first time in history.
Mrs. snarkk was out shopping today and came home remarking that it is amazing how many small business shops are closed up and out of business…
I went in a Barnes and Noble yesterday for the first time in months, and I never felt comfortable, and didn’t stay long. A grocery store is a necessary risk, but a bookstore couldn’t be called that. So many businesses just aren’t necessary risks.
I feel sorry for the people involved with those businesses. It’s a terrible situation.
Driving small businesses out was almost unarguably a prime reason behind the lockdown. America’s economy is basically in the dumpster and is likely to take the Trumpster with it. The decisions are being made waaay above his pay-grade. Trump is essentially acting out a role. This election is a farce and every one has been since the systemic takedown of JFK on 11-22-63.
All presidential candidates are probably shown the movie clip which was shot FROM the grassy knoll. As for the meme that the pretzeldent is the most powerful man in the world, I say BULL. Whoever is the primary owner of the Fed calls the shots. That’s been true since JFK attempted to do an end-run vs. the Fed when with E.O. #10001, he initiated printing of the $2 United States Note backed by the silver held by the US Treasury Department.
First action as president by LBJ, while still on the plane with the president’s widow along in the cabin and the corpse in the hold was to rescind Executive Order 10001. Get yourself to understand that and the whole politrix game-structure falls into place.
I guess the doubleheader tomorrow is a cocktail — 7 and 7…
Lulz 😂
So are they seriously going to have potential tie games with Doubleheader’s?
There’s 7 Tremors movies?! Who knew?
“today has seen the release of the first trailer for the SEVENTH installment in the series, Tremors: Shrieker Island.”
If it’s a tie in the 7th, do they get a runner at 2nd in the 8th?
15 days into the school year in FLA and 9,000 kids have tested positive. Who knows how many will be permanently damaged, or even die. Brilliant. I just wish these protests went directly to being anti-Trump.
My nephew manages a chain convenience store. He got a call yesterday morning telling him that the largest and busiest store in that chain suddenly had most of its staff sidelined for nearly two weeks because one of them contracted the virus. So he got transferred for the duration and worked at that buzzing scene yesterday from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Fortunately, he’s 26, but it’s gonna be a rough stretch constantly on his feet.
Though the death toll is sagging, Minnesota is on very serious lockdown. Were that one a private, single-owner business, chances are high that it would now be permanently closed. That is the agenda of the lockdown–to eliminate entrepreneurs and leave us with an almost purely corporate economy. Mussolini clearly defined fascism as the amalgamation of corporations with central government power.
I caught a lot of static on the blog for citing Sweden for ending the lockdown. True, they took some casualties in the short run (mostly in nursing homes and with folks with serious health-issues and with a limited life-expectancy. But life in that country is essentially back to normal. A similar situation exists in South Dakota where the independent minded governor went “off message”. The lockdowns are key to the World Economic Forum’s scheme for a new globalist economic system. I perceive that as fascism on steroids.
Craig I’m with Sandog. Stop talking politics fine by me, but block it all then. The asshole who shot someone and walked by the cops is likely because the cops fucked up. Nothing to do with Trump.
I got in to it with someone after a car accident when I was 19. Police stepped in front of me and yelled at me to sit the fuck down by the curb. I had 2 options, A) to turn my anger on the cop, maybe yell back at him, maybe try and grab his taser…or sit the fuck down. I choose option B. I’m not a Trump fan, but know plenty of good cops. They re not perfect, but mostly good. More people should choose option B.
Chuck..the answer to how many will die? Almost certainly be zero. I’m a PT and have a wife and sister who are nurses. Covid serious, but not for kids. In Ca zero kids under 17 have died.
The kids give it to adults.
The more kids that have it, the more adults get it, and they most definitely can and will die of it…
Of the 9000 new fla cases with kids a 9 year old girl died. Not much sure, but it would suck to be those parents. Acceptable numbers for DeSantis anyway
Hmmm…111 comments. That “one thing” again. Need to go buy some lotto tickets today.
I was a bit bummed about the cancellation last night, but absolutely agree with the move 100% (across the NBA and MLB). I had the game and pregame set to record. There was some really compelling stuff from Monte Pool and Dave Stewart.
Let’s play two today? Now that would be some shit to sweep the bums, not only in a DH, but for the series.
Main thing to bear in mind about the police is that they have been inoculated with the “Warrior Cop” mentality and under legislative and under executive mandates by the fed$ and most of the states; have been transformed from their old motto of “To Serve and to Protect” to that of “Harass and Intimidate”.
Sure, there are plenty of good people who are cops—but the overall attitude has become one of “us against them”. This has been heavily encouraged by massive government largesse of powerful war-toys and the development of Squat Teams which are essentially out for blood and often target the wrong homes and kill the wrong people.
Were we still a free country steps would be taken to remove all bad cops, take away their war-toys, re-train them along positive lines, eliminate their special privileges when they break the law and transform them back from killer robocops into human beings once again.
Interesting story from nbc boston re juxtaposition of Betts and Jackie Bradley of Boston, former teammates for years. Betts decided he wasn’t going to play but was OK with whatever team decided. They all had his back Opie etc . Bradley said he heard from 2 people, backup C and mgr., that’s it. sox played, dodgers Giants no.
Because Boston
